Park West Gallery unable to get balance resolved and get artwork

In November 2019 we were VIP attendees to a Park West Gallery Cruise on the Celebrity Equinox. On this cruise, we bought 5 paintings. One painting was on a credit card and the other 4 were financed thru Park West Gallery. We made the initial down payment and they started charging our credit card a monthly payment in January. When COVID happened, I became financially concerned and called Park West. They said I could not get any money back that I had paid, but we could cancel 2 paintings that hadn't been paid for leaving a smaller balance. They stopped charging my credit card, but, it is now 4 months later and they have around $6000 towards paintings at this point. I have called and e-mailed multiple times and they just keep telling me its taking longer to process. I'm not sure what my next step is. All I want to do is pay my balance and get my paintings. Or, a refund.

Park West Gallery scam!

Imagine winning the $500.00 Park West Gallery Art Auction Grand Raffle but get nothing for it? That's what happened to us. The $500.00 grand raffle was drawn after the last auction. Park West Gallery Art Director Boris on the NCL Escape out of NYC on March 17th, 2019 tells us there is nothing we can put our winning $500.00 to unless we want to spend $400.00-$500.00 out of our own money. There were many items auctioned off for $500.00 and less. Park West Gallery is a scam, STAY AWAY!

Park West Gallery the process

We attended every auction and did not buy anything on our recent carnival cruise. We did not buy any art from Park West, firstly because we do not have money to afford it and it secondly did not find any of the pieces very attractive. However, I do believe their practices are shady. Although this is not a big deal I did notice that during the auction only people who were buying products or who owned the Park west credit card would win the raffle drawings. There was a contest that would give that most enthusiastic person a prize and my son tried so hard to be enthusiastic and the two people that one where people who had bought art at previous shows. Everything started to add up the more you thought about things and looked at the art. And it makes me so sad for those people in the room that we're spending good money for art. That might not be worth anything. So my point is that everything they do is part of this effort to trick people—including something as small and silly as their raffles.

Park West Gallery art auction purchase

On board the Carnival Fantasy cruise in April 2017 we were treated to three glasses of free champagne and a lot of bull by park west gallery. I bid on and won a Thomas Kincade "painting" in a beautiful frame. I was told after signing the contract that it would be FedEx ed to me because the frame had to be replaced since the piece was slightly damaged. Two months later I received a cheap copy of a print that was never even touched by the artist. I had been told that the signature contained his DNA from hair clippings added to the paint. I could of feel roughness so I bought the story the staff told. I should have known better but that's no excuse for their deceptive practices.in addition to the piece being a cheap copy with a machine created signature, the frame I received was nothing as fine as the one that was actually on the piece in the gallery. The orangy gold painted hardboard one I received could be purchased for less than $50 locally. Park West had also sent an appraisal which they did themselves showing a value of $2400. A local gallery estimated the value as less than $600. Astonished I contacted Park West with my complaint and was told I could return it for a refund minus an $800 restocking fee and would be required to pay the return shipping. I learned from research that since the item was bought on international waters American laws do not apply so I am stuck with it but have learned a valuable lesson.

Park West Gallery auctions

During a cruise on the Brilliance of the Seas from Tampa FL, Royal Caribbean colluded with Park West Gallery to defraud "art" auction customers who were served free alcohol in what is considered a safe and reputable environment but is in violation of the Uniform Commercial Code. PWG has refused for nearly a year to refund art never delivered and in their possession. Finally PWG emailed me they would send an unspecified refund not to me but to Royal Caribbean. PWG ignores my request to return for refund four pieces of "art" PWG and RC charged my account $3219, with "appraisal" values listed as $8150. Fraud by PWG and collusion with Royal Caribbean misleads and profits from trusting customers, mostly seniors. I was told by PWG auction agents that framing and shipping were included, not so, with charges shockingly higher than auction prices. The "appraisals" ranging from $15 to $35 each are worthless. Total charges to my account were $5648.

Park West Gallery empty tube

I bid and won art from Park West on a cruise ship four months ago. First of all, the artwork was sent to the wrong address (ups fault), but I never got information from Park West that the shipment had been made. When I call I was told that it could take several months to get the product. I finally called three months later and was told that it was shipped two months ago (to the wrong address). They said they would send a new one. When it came, there was nothing in the tube but tissue paper. The lady I spoke with at Park West acted as though I was not telling the truth.

Park West Gallery art work

I have been a long time customer of Park West Gallery, I own serveral pieces of art work that I purchased while aboard Royal Carribean Cruise Lines. One of the pieces of art work I purchased was a Pablo Picasso piece sereral years ago for $15, 500.00 and while I was shopping around for new homeowners insurance this past year I was informed that I needed to call Park West and purchase a new appraisal (which costs $75.00) to have an updated one for insurance purposes. Once I recieved the new appraisal from Park West and submitted it to my insurance company (StateFarm) I recieved a call from my agent letting me know that that they suspected that the value was incorrect and that I needed to get a second appraisal. The appraisal I received from Park West told me that the piece was worth $29, 500.00, but when I went to a very respected and trusted company here in Dallas, Texas called Heritage Auction House it was then that I was informed that the piece was only worth $7, 200.00! I was shocked obviuosly so I immediately called Park West and I was told that the appraisal they sent me was for "replacement value only" and that they "are not responsible for current market value or the actual value that I could sell the piece for". I have called and spoke with the managers at Park West and I have also reported this to Royal Carribean Cruise Lines and I have been told buyer beware and that Royal Carribean is not responsible for anything that Park West sells or values their art work for while abord their ship. I am currently working with an attorney to get my money back. I do not recommend Park West to anyone and this has been the worst experience of my life.

Park West Gallery frustration

Park West purchased that I took home from my cruise were fine, but EVERYTHING I purchased that was shipped came with problems: one litho had to be returned for reframing because it had something under the glass; a medallion I purchased came, but was not a good specimen (a late run). I returned the print for reframing, and after providing photographs of the lack of detail on the medallion, they finally agreed to exchange it for an earlier run that was clearer. I purchased Muhammad Ali boxing shorts, and although I was told that I would receive the set I bid on (which had a very large signature), they tried to send me a set with a tiny signature. I insisted on the original. When it came, it was tacked horribly through the silk. When I sent pictures and asked that they reimburse me for having it mounted correctly, they ignored my emails. My recommendation is to only purchase what you can carry away with you. If you do have it mailed, be ready to send it back. ‘ No great deals to be had here – just fun at the auction, and frustration when you get home.

Park West Gallery 12 months no interest

Purchased artwork on cruise, They put wrong name on credit card, I sent it back four times trying to get the name corrected
and got no response from them.After the 12 months no interest time limit was up, they some how got my phone number
and have been calling for the person who's name is wrong on the credit card. Every time I try to explain the mix-up
they interupt or hang up on me. I have wriiten to them, e-mailed them and called ParkWest by phone, no one seems to be
able to correct this problem.I will NOT PAY any late fees because of there mix-up andrefusal to here me out or try to correct
this situation.

Count yourself lucky if you have loophole to not pay cause the art is more than likely not real and not want you expected or want was promised and sold to you.
Funny how they go out of their way to make contact if you owe them a penny yet try and get some satisfaction from them in teh form of a refund and it falls on deaf ears!
I say don't pay and ship back whatever bogus art they sent you.
Then count your blessings that you escaped their clutches.
Google park west rip off, scam, and see all the cases on fine art registry.
Investigate the class action suit filed in regard to their corrupt business practices and selling fraudulent art.
You are lucky!

Park West Gallery lost check

In order to get our home equity loan we had to pay an outstanding balance of 10, 2000.00 for art which we purchased. Our bank sent a direct wire on april of 2008 and it is no where to be found. The check has been cashed. I have spent over 10 hours on calls which went unanswered, sent copies of the check front and back to 3 different addresses certified mail and faxed to who I thought would be the final person that I spoke to . To this day I have not even received an answer or a call to see what the status is. Im still being charged interest on the money. Who the #!#*^ is in charged over there my bank has never seen anything like it since they also cannot get an answer

Park West Gallery my bad experience

I bought a painting aboard one of our Carnival Cruises out of Tampa FL. My wife and I decided to go to the auction aboard the ship and I bought a Peter Max. Price was around 3K. When I got home, I decided I didn't want it so I called up Park West to cancel. They hadn't even received the invoice. They said they wouldn't be able to cancel because they said "All Sales are Final, " which is something they didn't tell us when making out the invoice. I didn't discover it until I got home where it said this on the back of the invoice. They told me to fax a letter to them and they would see what they could do, but didn't promise. I ever NEVER bought anything I couldn't return if I decided I didn't want it. Not in the case of Park West..

If the decide not to refund, what is my next step to resolving this problem?

I actually got a real person on the phone when I called to cancel. The person said I would only get 85% back and I would get 15% in credit to spend at Park West, but after reading how many people have been ripped off, I'm just out $2, 000. I guess that's better than being out of $11, 824.41, but still, NO WAY TO DO BUSINESS! I tried in vain to cancel before we got off the ship, but the hard seller would not take no for an answer. I told the person on the phone this and she had no reply/comment. I will be disputing any and all charges on my Synchrony Park West credit card!

We just returned from a Royal Caribbean cruise and my heart sank after reading we have apparently been ripped off to the tune of $11, 824.41. I feel numb. PRAYING we can get our money back before receiving the two Britto sculptures and one Britto framed artwork. Unbelievable. Park West MUST be stopped. I will be contacting the Federal Trade Commission as well as joining a class action lawsuit. What was supposed to be a happy anniversary escape has now turned into a nightmare. Park West is closed today, but I bet when I call them, they'll tell me I can't cancel for some reason even though it says plainly you have 50 days to cancel the sale, and since we haven't received anything yet, fingers crossed! That money could go a long way on fixing up our home.

Just a quick note to the above...I have bought several hundred thousand dollars worth from Park West...I have been trying to sell many pieces all of which I would only get pennies on the dollar as they are not what Park West said they are...all the Auction houses and appraisal companies I have tried have said they are worthless. Very sad to know that i have been ripped off.

My First and Last Experience with Park West Gallery…

I was on a Princess cruise in February 2014 and had my first and last experience with park west gallery.
I went to all the shows and bid and won a few pieces of art. Alfred Gockel, Itzchak Tarkay. On the 2nd to last day a piece of art came up it was a ship nautical chart with the captain and his staff signatures from Princess Celebrity Silhouette.

The female auctioneer stated that this nautical map was worth several hundred dollars and a great add to anyone collection, being a scuba instructor this would look great in my office the starting bid was $200.00,
I ended up buying this piece of art. It wasn’t until I got home when I had my art apprised the other pieces were fine however the nautical map was not, I was told from the appraiser that this nautical map was worth $ 0.00 it was worthless.

I called park west gallery and got the runaround from the management stating that they were not responsible for the nautical map that the ship was, Calling Princess Cruises informed me that since park west gallery sold it I would have to go to them.

So the end of my story is Be careful on what you bid on and don’t truly believe the auctioneer I was left with a $200.00 piece of paper with signatures that could not be verified

I have for years tell people to avoid cruise line auctions. Being an expert Fine Art Appraiser, I tend to avoid them whenever possible. I make my living buying and selling and deal frequently with auctioneers of all stripes. A few are very honest, a few more are crooks and the vast majority just play the game of saying as little as possible and letting bidders assume what they may. Over the last 25 years I have learned the meaning of "Buyer beware" and also that there are deals to be had when others are timid.

What struck me in my recent experience onboard a NCL cruise was the exaggerated claims of the auctioneer and his apparent ignorance of the normal auction process. He understood the use of the gavel, but used a bidding structure that was overly complex with tiered "bids", some of which he called pre-bids, but which were in fact house reserves. He seemed to be trying to create an auction fever without giving the audience much of a chance to bid... and he sure enjoyed slamming that gavel and saying "SOLD!" regardless of actuality. What was disturbing is not that he was necessarily under any regulation as he could have probably claimed we were in international waters, but that he actually claimed it was a live auction when there were virtually no competitive bidders. More importantly his stated objective appraisals or valuations were far from objective and the authenticity of the limited prints by Picasso, Rembrandt, Dali and other masters really was questionable. As "all deal are final" and some of them were in the $10K to $30K it would seem reasonable to expect some sort of guarantee that what was presented was in fact real. The small print on the proposed contracts I saw did not offer this assurance. This coupled with the class action and private US based law suits should be a firm indicator to all customers that not all that is as presented. Technically because regulating transactions in extraterritorial waters, the Park West Gallery cannot not be said to be doing anything criminally wrong. That they have settled with individuals and found culpable in other cases, would suggest that their integrity and honesty might be considered at the low end of the scale. In my opinion they seek to lead their patrons to false conclusions or assumptions which result in purchases at inflated value. This is not unlike any auction, except that here auctions are just the bait; the follow-up meetings and VIP invitations to identified "marks" are where the real action and pressure techniques are applied.
I bought one piece at auction which was the actual item, not something that was to be framed and delivered when we returned home. I was satisfied with the value or at least can live with the fact that I raised my hand knowing that it was not to wave hello. This put us in the sites of the PW people. When we were subsequently the winners of a house draw (100 participants) for a "free" high quality print, my spidey senses went off, especially since we were VIP seated in front row. Normally when I have time I check out prospective purchases on the www, but of course at sea this can be relatively expensive and being the somewhat cheap SOB I am, I never bought a package. On shore, between responding to emails and sight seeing, I also didn't get any researching done. Left to rely on my gut, there were three basic rules that came in handy:
#1: Why is the seller selling?
#2: Why do I want to buy it (for me this is profit)?
#3: What pressures are behind the opportunity... are they real or created artificially?
Obviously PW is in business to making money. However they claimed that the works they were selling had values (via sales records) of several thousand dollars above what they were asking. If this was true it would be bad business to sell them at less than market value. Their business is based on driving the market upwards, not downwards, so the WHY, was probably because they could get more on board ship than elsewhere. This left me with a reason for buying which would have had to have been that I liked the art more than what else I could do with the $10k (+)... I didn't. Lastly, the pressure thing was continually in the background (TODAY ONLY!) and there was no negotiating a due diligence or performance clause into any contract... the deal had to be done, the paper signed, before port was reached. The only reason for this pressure is to ensure the money is irreversibly in-hand before research or second thought might lead to buyer remorse. Any quality deal is worth negotiating and sleeping on.

Perhaps my distaste for this business was best illustrated when the "free" print Eileen had won and decided to have mounted in a gallery quality mat, glass and frame at a $300 price was delivered. The 30x24" piece came with Plexi glass, damaged matting and a dense plastic frame. I guess the question should have been asked as to which gallery the "gallery quality" was assigned. Obviously it was Park West Gallery's quality, which is in our experience looks good until looked at closely.

The bottom line with Park West Gallery is that they appear to be less interested in what they are selling and more interested in maximizing profit regardless of the impact this may have on the people they target. The cruise lines with which they partner appear complicit in this as they allow them to set up shop prominently and provide access to guest lists and room locations. It would be interesting to know if the cruise lines take as much a share of their profits (40%) as they do of the on-shore vendors and tour providers they work with.

I have attended several are auctions at sea, most conducted by Park West Gallery. In EVERY auction I have attended they have clearly stated at the beginning of every auction several things which include: ALL SALES ARE FINAL, SAY IT WITH ME, ALL SALE ARE? FINAL. ANY QUESTIONS? ALL SALES ARE? FINAL. Also they say (in short) there is a confidential minimum bid, that means until the bidding reaches the minimum bid I cannot sell it. I will tell you when the minimum bid is reached. (and they always have done that).

Park West Gallery a rip off

We sailed on Carnival Cruise line in 2008 and decided to go to the auction. While we were there we bought a painting that we liked. We were not interested in selling it for money to make a profit. However, when we got the "painting" we realized that we could have done the same thing at home with our plotter. To top it off, we probably paid over 500% of what its worth! Beware - quality is horrible, price is crazy and they won't even work with you to return it. Luckily we are American Express Platinum members and since we paid with our Amex, we got all of our money refunded!

Me and my hubby bought two paintings at the RC cruise with different invoices, one has arrived months ago (invoice no: 32R6-2-7)

Mine is still missing. (32R6-16-7)

Glad to hear you were able to get your money back through AMEX.You are fortunate since it takes in most cases greater than 60 days to get the art from them and investigate the validity of what was said and sold to you as fact, often times it is too late for credit card comapnies to do a charge back.
That seems to be part of teh MO of PArk west scam to outwait the time period for refunds ..even of their new policy for 40 days! What a joke!
