People Finders deceptive business practices

I signed up for the one time use option, which was advertised as costing .95. What they do not tell you is that if you do not cancel within 3 days, you are automatically transitioned to the monthly subscription option, which is a non-refundable cost of $24.95. When you call to attempt to resolve the issue, the representatives are rude, and unhelpful. They are obviously prepared for complaints regarding the unexpected charges, I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was transferred to a voicemail, and received a form email response telling me that I could not be provided with a refund. Their business practices are obviously deceptive and unethical

People Finders monthly charges

I issues and provided my credit card for a one time search for $.99. There were options to sign up for monthly subscriptions but I was careful not to. The website indicated that the $.99 was for a three day search. Well, come to find out that unless I specifically cancel within the three days they upgrade your account automatically to the monthly subscriptions for $24.95. Very misleading! When I called to cancelled the lady said they would refund only one month (by now they had charged my account three months of charges). I asked how they felt this was good business. She explained I was sent an email and other terms and conditions (which was very length and the renewal is buried deep in the terms). I stated it was misrepresentation of the terms, she asked me to explain and when I did she would not let me talk and kept interrupting me so I hung up. Do not do ANY business with this company. Clearly as I read the reviews, if someone WANTS to do business with them via more than one transaction, they will. There is no need to hide the auto renewal deep in your terms.

People Finders refund of $

I had decided not to renew my site in April of this year. Then on Sept. 30, 2012, they went on ahead and charged me for a full 6 months. That was a total of $90.00. I even requested a phone number or a call from a supervisor to clear up this matter and they just kept sending me the same e-mail about how to cancel my subscription, in which I had already done. Please help me with this issue because I am on a fixed income and $90.00 is a great deal of money to me.

People Finders they tell you that it is unlimited service

They tell you that it is UNLIMITED service. I run a real estate business and need address verification on multiple leads. In two weeks time they flagged my account four times and I had to wait 24-48 hours before I could use it again. Unlimited is not unlimited in their eyes. When I called to complain to a supervisor she offered to cancel me instead of fixing the problem. Horrible customer service!

People Finders bad customer service

Let me begin by saying that good customer service is a LOST art. Believe me when I say I know what customer service should be like because I worked it for eight years. I now own my own real estate business and the people you serve is the source of EVERY penny you have. Without your customers you have no business.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to try out your company. I was flagged 4 times from then until today. I do ALOT of searches but you advertised that it was UNLIMITED. That means that I should be able to look up UNLIMITED amount of information. I have marketing deadlines and need to verify addresses.

I was very patient the first THREE times it happened. Each time I was told that a form would be submitted to IT to fix. By the fourth incident (which occurred this morning), I asked for a supervisor and was transferred to "Jennifer". I stated that if it couldn't be worked out that the next time it happened I would cancel my service. Jennifer then suggested I cancel my service immediately. No apology, no assurance that it would be taken care, no assurance to make me as your customer happy. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Unfortunately, your 'supervisor' was more than willing to take care of my problem by getting rid of me. How easy for her.

When I called back in to get a different supervisor I was told Jennifer was the only person available. The customer care individual (if you want to call her that) wouldn't even give me a corporate number. To then get me off the phone she said there was nothing else that she could do and asked me if there was anything else that I needed. I said no, and that I felt like she too was getting rid of me. She did however offer to refund my money after I stated that I would contact the BBB.

It's too bad that this couldn't be worked out. I liked your program and when I wasn't flagged I was able to get the information that I needed quickly.

People Finders unauthorized charge of 24.95

I was offered a FREE search from peoplefinders.com for .95. Two days later my bank sent me an overdraft notice with an $8 fee everyday unil the check is paid. People finders.com without my authorization charged my debit card 24.95. I never agreed to that charge and further never agreed to have an automatic deduction of 24.95 per month beginning 8/18/12. This is nonsense. This is fraud. This is an invasion of my privacy and a waste of my time. I want my money 24.95 put back into my account immediately! And, I want the fee of $8 per day for this charge returned to my checking account immediately! These are unfair and fraudulant business practices and I intend to follow-up legally. I will start with a phone call on Monday 7/30/12.. I hope they answer the phone promptly and reverse their unauthorized charge and fees. Also, just based on this first time experience with peoplefinders.com, I want any of my personal information purged from their business.

People Finders scam

I HAD ORDERED A 95 CENT PURCHASE TO LOCATE SOMEONE AND AFTER RECEIVING MY CREDIT CARD STATEMENT TODAY I'M SHOCKED TO SEE AN ADDITIONAL $24.95 CHARGE THAT I HADN'T AUTHORIZED. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY HAD ADDITIONALLY CHARGED ME ANOTHER $24.95 JUST YESTERDAY. WHEN I TOLD THE RECEPTIONIST THAT THIS WAS BULL_ _ _ _ SHE SAID IF I USED THAT LANGUAGE AGAIN SHE WAS GOING TO HANG UP ON ME. I THEN TOLD HER THAT I WAS FULLY AWARE THAT THIS WASN'T HER DOING, THAT IT WAS THE COMPANIES POLICY, BUT BECAUSE SHE ANSWERED THE PHONE, SHE WAS THE ONE THAT I WAS VERBALLY GONNA SHOOT BULLET HOLES THROUGH.

POSITIVELY A BIG HUMUNGUS SCAM!

People Finders credit card rip off

Used the People Finders web-site to obtain information and paid the price requested at the time. About 90 days later when checking my account I notice they charged me $24.99 against my debit card. Called and they immediately told me they would remove the charge in 3-5 days. My gut told me they are running a scam and hope you don't notice the extra $24.99 on your bill. Will let you know if they remove the charge in 3-5 days.

People Finders illegal charges on my account

Give these people authorization for a $95 trial and BAM they got you. Once they have your card information they will begin processing monthly fees even though they did not get authorization to do so. The web site asks if you would like a full membership for 24.95 and even though you decline the invitation they will bill you anyway. Their hopes are that someone doesnt look that closly at their monthly statement and they will charge you forever. DONT BE A VICTIM LIKE I WAS. Stay away from them. its ashame because they do have a good service.

I agree that people finders uses devious practice to take money from your account. I signed up for a one time look-up, but they began taking fees from my card monthly, and since I was on vacation, they took 42.00 unfairly from my card. I think practices such as these should be more carefully regulated.

People Finders unauthorized charges on credit card

People finders stole $24.95 from my account when I paid another one time fee to find a phone number. The number was no good but I didn't complain, now my charge account shows another charge for $24.95 pendin for an unrequested membership.. When I checked the internet there were scores of complaints for the same fraud being done to others. When I called to cancell this charge, today 8/1/2011, "Britany" told me that the charge was non refundable. IT WAS A "FREE TRAIL" I RECEIVED FOR BUYING A SERVICE! I said I would complain to every internet outlet and she said go ahead if I felt that was what I had to do. PEOPLEFINDERS- Your company is a large scam.

People Finders deceived

As per your post on the Complaints Board, you make it sound like you care about your customers. " If you believe that you have been deceived or "scammed" by our organization, we definitely want to hear about it and reconcile the situation."

What you don't say is there is absolutely no way you are going to give any kind of refund under any circumstances. Your cleverly hidden opt out within 3 days or get billed a fee each month is deceptive and I sure has caught many unsuspecting customers. I am sure you have "heard about it" from thousands of people. I'm also sure you have not refunded a single penny either.

The ill will you have generated by not refunding my money will cost you, in the long run, much much more than what you took from me many times over.

The definition of reconcile as you use it is: make someone accept a disagreeable or unwelcome thing.

What your customers are excepting (and not getting) is another definition: settle a disagreement, restore friendly relations.

Stay tuned look for wwwPeopleFindersScam.com, coming soon!

People Finders signed up for 1 month subscription and they took 12 months out of my account

PeopleFinder took over $131.00 out of my account, when I only signed up for one month at 14.95. They overdrew my account. Their website gave me three options to chose from and I chose one month at 14.95. Some balls taking out 11 more months in advance. I called and they told me I had two options. To pay for 6 months or 3 months. I told them no and they had one option and that was to refund me 11 months then cancel my subscription.

I wished I had checked the internet before I gave them my bank information. I don't trust them and you shouldn't either!

People Finders unauthorized credit card payments

This complaint is exactly the same as my phone agents complaint. Used People Finders website one time for a fee of $1.90. Now, I find monthly charges of $24.95 per month ever since six months ago.$24.95 x6 =$149.70. I think that I am entitled to reembursement of $149.70. Between Phone Agents and People Finders I have been scammed for over $263.00 a month.
What a Joke...These websited should be convicted of fraudulant activities and shut down!
If I am one person and their scamming me for over $263.00 a month, and they have say 1000 people that they are scamming in the exact same way, that is $263, 000 a month...Thats not a bad monthly income ! This type of activity can't be Legal!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank You,
Danny Resko

People Finders unauthorized charge

THIS COMPANY OFFERS A 3-DAY FREE TRIAL OFFER WHICH I USED 1 TIME AND WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS. I CALLED THEM THE SAME DAY I USED IT AND TOLD THEM ( IN PARTICULAR BRIAN) THAT I WASN'T INTERESTED IN USING THEM SO CANCEL ME OFF THEIR LIST. 6 DAYS LATER I GET A CHARGE OF 29.95 TAKEN OUT OF MY CHECKING ACCOUNT. I'VE NEVER RECEIVED ANY KIND OF SERVICE FOR THAT FEE AND DID NOT AUTHORIZE THAT TRANSACTION. I HAVE ORDERED A NEW ATM CARD AND FILLED OUT A FRAUD COMPLAINT AGAINST THEM. I WANT MY MONEY PUT BACK INTO MY ACCOUNT. THEY HAVE SO MANY DIFFERENT PHONE NUMBERS AND GO UNDER SO MANY DIFFERENT NAMES (FAMILY SAFETY FOR ONE) IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM. I DID FINALLY REACHED A REAL PERSON (JESSIE) WHO ASSURED ME THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE -SHE WAS MISTAKEN. I WANT MY MONEY PUT BACK INTO MY ACCOUNT.

Used them twice for two different names. First search came up with name only no address or phone number. Second name came up with four addresses and phone numbers, all were out of date at least six years.

Here is their response when I requested a refund:

I needed quick detailed information about a person that I was about to use for a specific purpose.
I needed to look at their background information all the way down to marriages and divorces.
No where on the internet information that I purchased from ever told me during the signup
process to the very end that only a handful of states are covered under this type of information.
I complained in detail to PeopleFinders.com and they could only say that they were sorry, that I should
have know. They volunteered to refund $10.00 of the $55.00 spent to get the information.
It should be a criminal act that they can take your money and not supply the information.
If you advertise that you are getting such records for this amount of money, then aren't you liable to
supply what could cause you not to get the information?
I will continue to file complaints on line until this is changed.

I would like to place a complaint about PeopleFinders.com for violating my privacy and my personal information. I asked repeatedly to be removed from their database but yet the information remains there. They asked me to send a letter with the removal request. I sent two letters, number of e-mails and a phone call.

They require a letter from the individual to be removed from their database just to inconvenience people and deter them from removing information. But even if you send a letter they don’t remove the information. I don’t think this is even legal.

This is terrible. This just happened to me (within in the last 20 minutes). A week ago, I had to fight the same battle with a company called peoplefinders.com, a company that I have already reported to the BBB. My operator refused to tell me where they were located or the President's name.
Here are the direct numbers to the very unhelpful bunch at peoplefinders.com
My information was also given out to SAVINGSACE and HOMESAVINGSMA where I was charged 16.95 each and I never had been to their websites.

People Finders scam, don't use

I used Peoplefinders.com to find a phone number for me. I was under the impression it was only going to cost $0.95. They ended up charging me and extra $0.95 to email it to me and then a hidden charge of $24.95 for not canceling a trial I did not know I had. When I called them to ask politley and nicely after I said I was happy with their service but wanted the charges I did not use or want or know of to be taken off, they said it was completely impossible. I called my credit card company to dispute the unautorized charge so we shall see if they can do anything for me. I hate it when people are devious. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLEFINDERS! Where is your integrity?

I completely agree...apparently there is fine print someplace that gives Peoplefinders the okay to continue charging every month. I used them ONCE to look up one number...which wasn't correct. They have continued to charge me every month...for nothing.

I also called my credit card company and they said there was nothing they could do either. Everyone, please beware of what you agree to when signing up for things.

People Finders fraudulant charges and sale of personal info

This company lures customers in by offering cheap online "people searches" for $1.95. What they don't tell you is that regardless of whether you choose a recurring membership or not, they'll bill you $24.95 anyway. Customer service is VERY RUDE and tell you they don't offer refunds. They sell all of your personal information as well. The credit card companies must deal with these scammers a lot because thankfully they reversed that charge at my request. This happened twice. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE. I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. I'd like to see enough people get together and make a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission as well as Attorney General in their area.

OMG, I have been researching to find a contact for a scam order of acacia products which you can apparantly cancel at anytime providing that any of the phone contacts are actually connected and an email was supplied. What a Scam you cant contact anyone, so you start to research and it is surprising what you find, (if only I had stopped to make the time for that before, always doing things in a hurry), anyway People finders came up with the so called director Todd Nechtman of the XM Brands Company I am trying to contact and yep asking for money, Thank God, I did not go there! The Internet is very untrustworthy, or there are very bad people out there abusing it and innocent people. I have filed reports with econsumer.gov & myfloridalegal.com, and anywhere else I can find. I suggest everyone does the same, these people are ###! I wont stop until they are!

People Finders bait and switch

On 7/6/10, I opened an account with PeopleFinders.com. I was immediately charged $19.95 for this "service" even though the website clearly states that if you cancel your account within 7 days, you will not be charged. I did not find the information that I was seeking on the website and canceled the account within 30 minutes of its inception as your program was not working for me.

I sent an e-mail to the company on 7/7 and received a reply that was very confusing and not helpful. I tried to call the company for clarification and was on hold for over an hour before I hung up. I tried again to call on the 8th and was on hold for 93 minutes before I finally hung up, (I have finite minutes to use since I have a cell phone only).

I sent another e-mail and received another ambiguous reply. Once again, I responded and requested a refund. I again received an ambiguous reply. At this point, I have reached a state BEYOND being upset with your company.

5 e-mails later and I FINALLY reached someone by phone today, 7/12, (this time the hold time was only 33 minutes), and I requested, verbally, a refund of the $19.95.

Your company refused to refund the monies, and instead, offered to "upgrade" my account as you claim that I had chosen the "wrong service" and should have contacted you earlier to resolve the issue. I have been trying to resolve the issue since I purchased the account, yet YOUR company makes that impossible to do!

I do not WANT an upgrade with your company. I want a refund of my $19.95. Your company is not one I wish to be associated with in any shape form, or fashion as I believe it uses bait and switch tactics and is a very dishonest company.

People Finders buyer beware

While searching for a friend's phone number, a link referred me to peoplefinders.com for the phone number. After clicking on the link, there were options to sign up for a membership service to obtain the information. The monthly membership seemed like the best deal ($9.95 ...regular price $19.95 with a $10 cash-back offer). But after I signed up, I found that peoplefinders did not have the person's name or phone number in their database. Further, I was not able to access peoplefinders to complete additional searches because screen popups kept telling me that I needed to purchase a membership each time I would request a search and would not provide search results. I was able to access the peoplefinders account page and confirm that I had the monthly membership on my account, so at first I thoughy it was only a temporary computer glitch for that day. After several days with the persistent problems, I finally reported the problems to peoplefinders customer service. Peoplefinders advised that I only had a 24hr membership, even though I was charged on my credit card for more than the monthly price, and that my membership was expired. Peoplefinders said that they do not guarantee access or any search results. Customer Service refused to issue a refund, despite no usuable information was provided and the search results were blocked by continuous popups. Very dissatisfied customer.

I just had the same experience when cancelling thepeoplefinder.com service. I had absolutely no idea I had even signed up for an automatic $24.95 plan. The only notice of billing I ever received was for a $1.95 charge for a single inquiry I had made. I only noticed their "auto billing" because as a handicapped senior citizen on a small pension I keep a very close eye on my Visa account. When I called the "rep" she categorically refused to cancel the unintended approval to charge me this $24.95 aleady billed to my Visa.

They are a scam and a completely customer antagonistic rip off. Beware this outfit. Never use them. Use 411 instead. It will save much pocketbook pain.

I have now reported them to our state Attorney Generals fraud group and to the BBB.
