10/7 - I'm complaining about Publix (various locations), but will focus on my local store at 12139 W Linebaugh Ave, Tampa, FL [protected].
We heard that the avocado crop was presumably affected/delayed since the hurricane. Our local Costco didn't have any and told us that. Their price is normally a little over $1 each. Publix is charging $2.50 each for an avocado. The same day shopping at Target, they are only charging .99 each. I took a picture at each store and am providing this same complaint to Publix. I've talked to numerous people and they agree they are not paying $2.50 each for an avocado. When I took this picture yesterday on 10/8 (after I had been in the store on 10/6 and 10/7), it appears that the avocados are rotting since no one is buying them. I think this is a scam. Publix has been very expensive for a while ($2 each), but this is gouging due presumably to the delays in getting avocados. If that is the case why does Target have an abundance and at such a good price. Publix also has an abundance, but raised the price. Thanks.
I called the corporate office in January and complained about the blatant price gouging. I will not complain about 10-15% for the clean and convenient local store in Winter Springs Florida. But many shelf items are over 25% higher. Exact product. Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Morsels at Walmart and target $3.29 but public $4.19. Cast that over your annual shopping and they are laughing all the way to the bank. My fresh produce is terrible. Apples have soft wrinkled skins, tomatoes has sprouts inside, onions have green stems and mold. They are losing quality. Every shelf due the virus is empty and hamburger is $6.25 a lb. not loyal anymore.
Prices at publix is terrible high. I can see if it was just a little bit higher but some items are almost double from other stores. How come our goverment. Allows this?
Publix boneless skinless breasts yesterday were $4.69. Target had them for $2.29. Publix seems to know what items are hard to find and price accordingly. Walmart, Aldi, and Sams have been out for over a week. Limit quantity but don't double the price because you can. Aldi and Walmart choose to run out rather than look like they are price gouging.
Today a dozen large eggs cost $4.79 at Publix in Jacksonville, FL. Historically, The Fresh Market's products have been far more expensive than other chains, but they currently sell their eggs for $3.29 or $2.99 if a customer belongs to their loyalty program.
Johnsonville sausage cost $3.83 per package all during the pandemic or two packages for $6. For the last two months the price first increased to $5.09 and now it is $5.89 for one package.
Every staple item I ever bought now costs at least one dollar more than just a few months ago at Publix but in the case of the eggs and some meat, the cost is nearly doubling. Other grocery stores prices are beginning to drop. Publix, on the other hand, is jacking up the cost at break neck speed. Also, the buy one get one free sales seem like they are becoming a thing of the past too.
