unfair practices
Redbox had a terrific thing going (and drove all the other video retailers nuts, and most out of business!). But alas, now that they're gone, Redbox hopes to capture their 'lost/forgotten' business, i.e. the older movies that were popular 5-10-15 years ago. What's the gripe? They are doing it at the expense of confusing customers!
Instead of putting the year of release, they're putting all the old movies in the new releases--fooling--as in, deceiving, the customer into believing it is a brand new movie. UNFAIR!
Case in point, The Gift. This was a good movie released in the 1990's. In late 2009, Redbox puts it in with its New Releases without announcing or putting an original date of release. The result, many (most?) people renting this movie believe their getting a new movie ... instead of Redbox's release of an OLD movie. That's deceptive and unfair, isn't it?
Why don't they have the integrity to state the "original" release date and let the consumer decide whether she/he wants to rent an older movie--instead of one they are claiming is a New Release. Shame on them.
Maybe if enough of us regular users complain, they might get the message and STOP this deceptive business practice.

unauthorized credit card charges
They claimed I didn't return dvd's reted from them and I was charged $52.44 for this even though I returned them, but they offer no form of receipt when they are returned. Do not rent from these people. I have seen muliple complaints about this company online for the same thing, someone should investigate their business practices.

I was just charged $25.00 for a DVD that I returned the following day that they had no record of. I was very leary siince I did not return in the same location. When I called that said they would credit $10.00 so I asked them what if it comes up in the next two weeks will they credit my account the remaining $15.00 and they said no. What a scam. I will not be using Red Box again. Back to the video store.
They have receipts sent out via email because of a federal law stating no one is allowed to see movies you've rented without your permission.
credit card charges
Purely a scam artist. If you don't receive an electronic receipt for your rentals you'll end up being charged $26.10 for every DVD you rented even if you honestly returned them. They will just claim that you never returned them and they have no choice but to charge you for the DVDs. I'm pretty sure there are hundreds if not thousands who have been victimized by this kind of modus operandi by the REDBOX company. BBB (Better Business Bureau) should take action gainst their fraudulent charges to all innocent customers who has been victimized!

I am currently waging a campaign to be refunded in excess of $60 from Redbox, that were fraudulent. I was charged twice for same movies, plus late charges.
ripped off-illegal changes
I used to think Red Box was great, even recommending it to all my firiends and family. That was until they charged me not once but TWICE for dvd's that I most defnitely returned. This is how they operate:
-Rented DVD at store, put in debit card
-returned dvd next day
-TWO months later Red Box charged me $25.44
-I called customer service, they say I didn't return it (I DID!)
-Customer service "pings" the kiosk and low and behold the movie is there.
-Customer service says they will give a credit but I may have to wait 10-14 days
Round two:
-Redbox keeps trying to charge my Pay Pal debit card $25.44
-I call and they say it is for another movie I haven't returned (I DID!)
-I say "ping" the box and find it
-This time they say the box automatically checks returns everyday and they can not ping the box
-I tell them about round one, they have no record of it
-They also say they have service technicians who check inventory weekly
-I say I need a credit and they refuse
-I talk to the supervisor who basicaly l calls me a liar, but I do get a credit
Bottom line...do not use Red Box. It will cost you if you aren't paying attention to your online banking.

ur stupid
overcharges
After returning a DVDPlay to a Red Box kiosk by mistake and discovering the problem with extra charges for a dvd that I didn't have in my possesion, I was furious that a Red Box machine just took my DVD even though it knew it was not a Red Box DVD. Red Box basically stole my DVD and their customer service is 100% complete crap. Yet, DVDPlay continues to charge and make lots of money on DVDs eaten by Red Box kiosks, so they are coming out way ahead, too. It would be interesting to find out if the two companies are in bed with each other. What a scam meanwhile, we are all being scammed. Pay attention when returning your dvds both machines look very similiar. Never again to use either redbox to rent either. Fool me once shame you fool me twice shame on me. Redbox you don't stand a chance. Experience is the best teacher.

I have also had the same issue and received only a generalized email in return asking me to "...please review the below questions." The first two of which asking, "Do you rent from Redbox? Have you returned any DVDs to Wal-mart, Walgreens, McDonalds, Albertson or Fry?s stores?" (Copy and pasted directly from the email) It is obvious to me that they are aware of the problem and have done nothing to fix it. Further more, on both occasions, the only reason the movies were returned to another location was because the machine I had rented them from would not take them. I have been charged over $104 for 4 movies that I do not have and I would be willing to bet have already been returned to DVDplay after having been removed from the Red Box kiosk.
Count me in also! Not a single notification that they had not received their DVD back until 45 days later when they charged my account for the full cost of the DVD. I could not get anywhere with the CSR's and asked to speak with a supervisor. I was given two names to try to contact the next day. Only one supervisor was in and she told me she could not help me and that I needed to speak to the other supervisor...wtf?. I have tried and tried to contact her and cannot seem to get a return call. I was never even offered 50% back. To top things off, this all happened about 1 week after the company I was working for closed. No, that is not DVDPlay's fault, but I was counting on what little money I had left in my account. I, too, am among those that will never rent from those boxes again! I read on another site, where they don't have two kinds of Red colored boxes in the town, and people were returning them to the proper box and for some reason it wasn't scanning the bar codes. I will be amongst the first to sign up for the class action! I hope Karma bites them all in the a$$ big time!
Yep same thing happened to me. No email no nothing... I had to pay rent late that month because they just up and took the money out of my account... So not only was I charged 50 bucks for movies I returned to redbox and another 150 bucks late to rent... This is unreal. I contacted dvdplay and they refunded half and told me to get my movies back. So I called redbox and I still have not received any movies... Its been almost a month... I'm changing my account number today so I can get out of this scheme. I cant believe a company like this is allowed to do such a thing. If you buy something from walmart and try to take it back to target their not going to take it... So how is this any different?
I got scammed too. What kind of attorney do we need to stop this. Between bank overdraft fees and 20 days of rental fee's on two movies that I returned two days after renting them is costing me over $70! Someone please help!
Me too, I got scammed too. What kind of an attorney do we need to stop this. Two movies that I rented and returned two days later are now costing me over $100.00 because of overdraft fees and 20 days of rental fees
I too fell into this trap. I will never again rent from either Redbox or DVD play. Redbox still hasn't found the movie I mistakenly put into their kiosk. The only option I have is to change my credit card # so DVD play cannot charge me back the 50% refund for the mixup. I was charged $25 plus tax 45 days after the movie was due. Not one email until the 45th day showing the charge was coming. I called DVD play and the CSR was rude. I fired off two emails to customer service, called Redbox, and called DVD play back. The second CSR was much nicer and agreed to refund 50%, based on the movie being returned, if Redbox finds the movie. YES, at one point they were somewhat related. Redbox first used old DVD play kiosks. They rebranded them until Rebox got their own manufacture for the kisosk. Its not worth the hassle to rent movies this way. I am done. I will tell everyone about the issues. Word of mouth is a company's worse enemy.
My letter to DVD Play,
LAWSUIT ON THE WAY!
I would like more of an explanation of your scandalous practices! I spoke with (2) different CSR who's main with DVDPlay and (1) with Redbox. I feel as a customer I have not been treated properly. I have a HUGE issue with not being notified at least 44 day's ago that I still had a movie that was outstanding. You owe this to your customers. You are no better than REDBOX by letting us stay confused. I feel that the CSR's did nothing to keep me as a customer and blames REDBOX for the confusion? I can see that now but DVDPlay could alert customers much sooner now that you have knowledge of what I have been told was a major problem. I work for a major law firm that initiates Class action Lawsuits on behalf of people like myself who been deceived due to unscrupulous practices . It is the law that you notify people of late fees or pending charges. You do not have a dispute resolution center. I need to be contacted on how you intend to treat customers better in the future. The customer is not even important to you. It is our problem that we are paying a late fee for a movie that we will never own? What ever happened to customer satisfaction? I received half of a credit. That is NOT satisfactory, If customers were notified long ago of having an outstanding movie, the problem would be resolved in a timely matter I am sure. I did not find out until today 47 day's later? Surely this has lawsuit written all over it. It is not too frivolous to me that DVDPlay is WELL aware of this problem and stands idly by as confused customers are charged outstanding fees for movies they thought they had returned without ever being notified of still having an outstanding movie with DVDPlay. I was told today by (2) of your own reps that the number one reason for late fees is that people return the movies to redbox without realizing it. You know this and don't even inform people until it is far too late?
I too rented a dvd from dvdplay and returned it to a redbox. I'm still trying to get the dvd back...
I was told by a customer service person at Redbox that Coinstar owns both companies. I don't understand why they would use the same color box AND why wouldn't they design the machine such that one doesn't accept the other? OR, now here's a novel idea, if they are both owned by the same company, make it okay to return to EITHER one! I'm taking my complaints up a notch and contacting the public relations dept. at Coinstar. What is supposed to be an inexpensive option has turned into an expensive, time consuming one for me.
Sheesh; you are right, this is a total ripoff. These companies both report as either "DVD Play Campbell" or "DVDPLay" on credit receipts. Obviously, the companies are related. This will be a class action lawsuit. There is no way that these companies can get away with allowing you to return a DVD to thier kiosk if they are going to claim that it's not their DVD and still have the other company charge you.
broken equipment
I rented a movie online and was promptly charged for on my credit card. When I went down to pick up the movie I found that the vending maching was broken and had an out of order sign on it. I called Redbox to notify them and the said that they would refund my money. Why are they even charging me. I never picked up the movie. I went into the Walgreens and spoke to the lady a the counter and she told me that I was far from the first person to report that machine and they keep taking reservations for movies to be dispensed from this maching. While I was there several people people came up, shook their heads disgustedly and drove away. I ran into those same people 2 blocks down at Blockbuster a little while later. If the machine is down they ought to be able to take it offline on their website.

Same exact thing happened to me. And I can't seem to get a hold of customer service. I call their number and it just rings and rings and rings. Total ripoff. Total fraud.
took my money!!! overcharged!!
I have spent a lot of money renting videos from Redbox - Never Again! Last week, I returned 3 movies and the next day found out that I was charged FULL PRICE of each video! I had the movies for 2 days! I called the company and they apologized and said that their computer crashed and charged EVERYONE full price for EVERY return! Wow, did they hear about a stock market tip or what? Anyway, they said they will credit my account and gave me two free codes for 2 movies. Well it has been a week now and I have not seen my refund yet. I'm really disappointed in this company and will NEVER rent from them again! Just be careful and spread the word - they are crooks!

I work for redbox customer service and i do appoligize that you didnt get your refund. please give us a call and we will give you the refund right away i promise. I know if i helped take care of this issue for you i would of made sure that you got your money back.
interesting, because redbox refunded ALL of the customers that rented on july 19th on the 21st and 22nd. it takes banks and financial institutions 3-5 buisness days to process refunds, so maybe you should've paid attention to what the representative said, and realised that your bank takes quite sometime to process refunds, not redbox. i think the way they handled the situation was very professional and reasonable, yes they [censor]ed up, but they made sure they compensated every customer that was effected, and even went the extra mile to deal with banks and bank fees ; Redbox customer support should be commended for the way they kept their cool with all the [censor]es like you that lost it on innocent CRS's. Get a grip dude, life goes on and you're freaking out about something that really shouldn't matter enough for you to be a dweeb and whine. You obviously need a little more excitement in your life. Stop renting movies and do something productive other than [censor]ing over the internet.
unauthorized charges
I've been using Redbox for rentals for the past six months. There are two kiosks in my supermarket and I found the service to be cheap and convenient. Well, that was until yesterday morning when I checked my account and found a $52.44 charge from them. I have successfully returned every movie I ever rented from them. The last time I rented, it was two...

I rented several movies and returned the same movies. Now, over 60 dollars has been charged to my credit card due to keeping the movies for 14 days. I called twice and was put on hold. Eventually, I spoke with someone (Collette) who staes I returned one movie 2 days ago. Absolutely untrue. After much fuss I was told I will get a $5 refund!? No where near what I was charged. They do not issue receipts when you return your movies or when you rent unless you put in your email address. I declined putting in my remail address not knowing this is the only way I can get a receipt.

I sent my husband, father and mother out to return movies to redbox 2 days in a row. And the boxes would not take the movies I called to find out how I can return them if the boxes won't take them. They would claimed there is not issue with the boxes and I am stuck paying for movies I don't want that they won't take back. Never again will I use these rental, They need to take their movies back and not say your stuck with them now you have to pay.
Rented a movie, which by the way, was ACTUALLY IN, went to return the next day and the box was not accepting movies...so as all the other complaints I have read I was on the phone for 25 minutes...their STANDARD WAIT TIME, asked that after trying to return the movie to TWO boxes that didn/t work asked that my monies for the movies be retuurned as well as any late charges...she agreed over the phone, but not in her "RECORDS"
People, Our money will speak louder than any of these type forums...tell everone about the NO CUSTOMER SERVICE that REDBOX provides and go elsewhere with your money...They will get the message when the company closes!
I have been renting DVDs via Redbox for several months without problems. However, when I "slid" my card to pay for my selections last evening, 5/24/11 p.m., there was a screen notice that the transaction could not go through. Therefore, I was shocked/surprised to see that the charge went through although the DVD did not!
I was charged $3.25 for no movie, not a lot of money but still an erroneous charge. Makes me wonder how many other small charges I or others miss.
I filled out a survey online to get a free redbox DVD rental. I was given a promotional code and the next day went to a kiosk to redeem the free rental. A message was displayed on the screen that the code was already used. I was complaining to a friend about that and she told me the same thing happened to her. This alludes me to believe that redbox is regularly giving out bogus codes in exchange for surveys, surveys that take more than 15 minutes of personal time. I don’t want to use redbox anymore.
Redbox charged me three days of use for a video that was supposed to be free to introduce people to their product. And I didn't even get to watch the video.
On top of that when I called to ask for the $1.36 charge to be removed, I was treated poorly and rudely by the woman who answered the phone.
I would NOT recommend this service based on my experience; there are a lot of options for watching movies.
I had not used redbox in over 2 months, when they overcharged my debit card for rented (and returned) movies! After calling redbox and speaking to someone who came to this country on a floating door, I was told they would not reverse their charges (no supervisor available to speak with ? if one exits) Do NOT use these dvd rental kiosks! I had to report fraud to my bank, get a new debitcard, and buy new checks, and.. it will take me up to 90 days to get my money back! Word to the wise, use another dvd service. ( I use my debit card every day and this is the first time I've delt with FRAUD!)
Did you ever stop and think that maybe Redbox is not affiliated with the survey site? Did you call Redbox and ask, or just get on here and whine about it? I've dealt with Redbox before and they were a breeze. But instead of giving them the chance to rectify a problem that they didn't create, you'd rather drag their name through the mud? Nice. Grow up, quit whining.
Gee, if only you had taken the time to call customer service I'm sure they would have explained that you wouldn't be charged anything and that the $3.25 charge was only the temporary authorization done by your card provider when you swiped your card.
lol lol lol 25 minutes is not the standard wait time! i called and got ahold of the CSR's within 5 seconds. I talked to a lovely sounding guy named dustin, and he helped me making me feel loved and appreciated. I of course asked for confirmation number to confirm the promised refund, and it went threw as Dustin had promised.
thats because redbox had tried to charge y0ur card but the charge was rejected from your bank. likely because you had lack of funds. go to your bank! they can tell you its been rejected once every 7 days.
says I did not return movie
On May 8, 2009 while vacationing in Tn. I rented a movie from Redbox. Then on June 15, 2009 I find on my bank statement that they charged me $27.44 because I did not return the movie.
But on May 9, 2009 I did indeed return the movie. Never again will I rent from Redbox.
Now I know why when you call them, they are sorry for the wait due to a high call volume.
I don't trust them.

I had a similar circumstance occur. While I agree that it may have been frustrating if the customer service line was busy, a little persistence would have resolved the problem: after speaking to a customer service person they refunded the charge with no hassle.
I was surprised to see on my bank statement that Redbox charged me $25.44. When I called I was told that I did not return a movie. I DID return the movie. When you return a movie, you do not get a receipt right away, you get an email later on. I did not get an email. What a ripoff. I WILL NEVER rent Redbox again!
machines not accepting returns
I rented from Redbox last week. I originally attempted to use another movie rental machine at my local grocery store, but it got messed up when it was retrieving my movie, so I decided to try Redbox. I had to search for a location that had a working one, then found out the one that I ended up using didn't have the movie I wanted. It of course was available...

Redbox worked great for a very long time for us. Within the past week, however, they have charged us 7 TIMES amounts between $10 and $18/ WE HAVEN'T RENTED THAT MANY MOVIES! I called to complain and they just argued saying the charges were for movies we rented months ago and that for me to prove they overcharged me, I have to call back during normal business hours and have Redbox do a conference call with me and my bank. I have never heard of that before and I just returned my movie without watching it and WILL NEVER USE REDBOX AGAIN! EVER! I can't believe they did this. They were good for so long, and all of a suuden they turn and bite me in the butt. PLEASE DON'T USE REDBOX. THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY. They do it discreetly, too, so it takes time for you to realize what's going on and then when you find out, there are so many random charges spread out that it's hard to communicate to the customer service rep what is invalid and what is not.

QQ much. holy cow
Or maybe you should just return your dvd's on time so you don't rack up additional night fees, and then you wouldn't have to worry. That, or put money on your card if you're returning late so redbox can collect as soon as you return your dvd's vs. redbox waiting months to collect, and you getting pissed off about them collecting fee's which are rightfully theirs. By all means, be unreasonable and take it out on a redbox csr ; I however suggest you own up to your actions and as previously stated, stop being a baby.
Redbox will NEVER call your bank. EVER. Our phones don't even dial out. And our regular business hours are anytime someone answers the phone. All Redbox charges are done automatically. If you kept the movie extra nights, pay up and stop being a baby.
Did you get emailed receipts from Redbox when you rented the movies as proof. This is an option that Redbox gives you when you rent, and I always do it in case there is a problem. With the emailed receipt, it also tells you that your movie was rented and returned (at least where I live).
Your other option is to file a dispute with your credit card company to investigate this matter. If someone else made these purchases and it is not an error, perhaps you are a victim of ID theft and you should also do a credit check on yourself ASAP and closely monitor your other credit cards as well.
charged me for a movie that I returned
This company looked like it had a great idea - movies at the grocery store for only $1.00 a night. I have used it many times this past year, they had a customer for life! However, one day I noticed Redbox charged me $26.00 on my credit card; when I called, they said I had not returned a movie I had rented. Problem was, I definitely returned that movie - I...

We just got a Redbox put in our Wal-Mart and decided to check it out since it was cheap. We used our debit card and was charged correctly for 2 movies. We returned the movies the next day like we were suppose to. That was the first time we had ever used a Redbox. Well 2 or 3 weeks later we find a charge in our bank account from Redbox for $51.36. We called them and they said they could not even find our debit card in their computer and that was the only way that they could find out anything. RedBox is a rip off. They don't even give you a receipt or tell you what amount you are going to be charged. We called our bank and they said we could fill out an affidavit for unauthorized charges and they would investigate it so thats what we are going to do. We told them that and then they started like well we are going to send your bank a letter stating that we will release the funds to be put back into your account. They know they are a scam. They would not be willing to do that unless they knew for a fact that we were telling the truth. They knew we were right about it. That is the only reason they said they would do that.

The reason they were willing to refund you after was because they wanted to keep you as a customer.
This happened to me, too. Redbox are a bunch of scammers/frauds. stay away from these ###s.

My major complaint of redbox is that they are advertising movies at locations but they are never stocked! I have tried 6 different zip codes for the past 2 weeks to rent this one movie and have yet to find it available. But every time I go to redbox I see the movie advertisment on the top part of the box..it makes me mad because this is the second time I've complained to them about this. They emailed me back asking for my card number and location of the redbox I'm complaining about. Hello?!? Did you just not read my email!?!? I'm complaining about 5 different zip code red boxes that aren't stocked! Not only are they not stocking the movies but they are advertising them on the outside of the box but on their website the movie isn't there! Or they claim a movie will be available to rent on a certain date but isn't actually released until a few days later! I wish there was a way to make it easier to find a movie I want by clicking on the movie and instead of typing in my zip code they tell me where the movie is at according to availablity not by whatever zip code I put in! I used to rely on redbox for entertainment but not anymore! Redbox is slacking and lazy! Don't advertise movies if you are not going to release them on time and/or if you are not going to stock them equally. I believe many redboxes are being stocked according to what area you live in..ie; more mexican or spanish people in the area code you will find more spanish movies on that areas redbox as well as more ghetto people live in a area the more rap/gang related movies you will find in those areas. It's fustrating as hell! I'm not going to drive all over God's green earth to find a movie but I will continue to complain and will let people know how redbox really works! They are shady and lazy and not dependable..and VERY not equal at all! >P
felonious charges
Several weeks ago I rented a couple of movies from the scam box, I returned them on time.Today there was a 50.00 charge on my account for 2 dvd's. I had noticed a lot of 1.06 charges on my account repetedly! We used a lot of the free dvd rental coupons yet still I keep seeing the charges.I reread the coupon .Yes, they are SUPPOSE to be free, with 1.00 charges occuring after the first day.I thought" Oh well it's only a dollar." This happened several times -again, one dollar for one day. No. big deal; The kids enjoyed it.Then my friends said "hey those FREE coupons you gave us for FREE DVD rentals on McDonalds products charged us too.Explaining my outrage to a coworker after coming from the bank today, he nodded" Yep did the same thing to me, after about 3 months of renting they charged me for movies I returned that they say I never did !I called their number an incopitent beotch answered the phone, agreed to credit my account for 25.00 and would have to look at the inventory which may take 5-7 days! Well Scam box doesn't know it, but their going to give me all my money back !

Redbox recently charged a multitude of customers in the NE Oklahoma area fraudulently - they duplicated charges dating back a month. This was noticed by many customers on August 27th, 2009. I had six charges that I had previously been charged for. They have caused many residents in our area to incurr overdraft fees on their bank accounts and they are not taking responsibility. It was taking customers anywhere from 45 min. to 2 hrs. to reach a representative at Redbox and then second attempts were met by a recording that all circuits were busy. They admitted they made an error to many customers until they were informed that they caused overdraft fees to occur, they then became completely uncooperative and refused to fix the mess they have created. I hope more people will report what has happened to them as we are planning on providing all of this information to the State Attorney General of Oklahoma and take legal action if necessary to get our money back! I would not use Redbox again if you were lucky enough to avoid this annoyance!
Redbox is a serious con. Do not book online as they will state that you have till the next day to pick up but will charge you for 2 days. Appartently you need to read the fineprint in prior checkout but for some ODD reason, they omit that from their final screen which only lets you know that you will be charged $1 and you have until the following day to pick it up. What a con.. Lots of crap reps.
charges despite movie being returned on time
I returned a movie to a Red Box at a Shop Rite grocery store on March 24 at 8 pm, one day after it was rented. The machine accepted the DVD and I thought everything was fine. Eleven days later on April 3 I received an email saying that the DVD had just been returned that day. I called customer service and they said they had no record of anyone renting the movie since I had checked it out on March 23. They said the machine at the return location had been operating properly during that entire period and because their system couldn't possibly be wrong, I had not returned the movie until April 3, and therefore I would be charged for the entire 11 day period. I insisted that I had returned the movie on the 24th and their system was wrong but they refused to budge. The rep said her supervisor agreed that the machine had to be right.
My advice to everyone is to be very skeptical of renting from Red Box. When you return a movie you are not given any receipt and you have no way to prove that you have returned the movie. If the Red Box system later says you didn't return the movie there is nothing you can do to prove otherwise and customer service will not believe you. You will be charged up to $25 for what they advertise as only costing $1 per day. I don't think they are trying to intentionally rip people off but their technology is obviously flawed and can't be trusted.

I rented a dvd through there online site to pickup. I picked it up at the machine and returned the movie the next day before the return time posted. I got double charged according to their customer service agent named "Joy" because I failed to press the online pickup button on the screen and instead pressed the rent a movie button. They are refusing to refund the extra rental fee. "Joy" was rude and combative. Refused to let me speak with her supervisor after 2 calls. Worst company ever!

I notice a charge on my debit card for a red box rental, two seemingly, considering the 2.19$ charge (equivalent to two DVD rentals) .. I haven't rented from red box since June 15th, on a different credit card ... so this charge is a little confusing to me ...
I've already sent an email to them and my bank to resolve the matter and have yet to receive a response.
Red Box has no right to charge my card for no reason, I am definitely cancelling the card and requesting a new one .
charged twice
I was charged 80 dollars for 3 movies i never returned(3 months ago). I was charged again on2/23 and told that this was because they couldn't charge me the first time. This is incorrect and someone needs to correct it soon. I am ready to post signs about your company on every box in town and call the news station to let them know to tell the public what ### this company is. I will turn Redbox in if i do not get my money back.

I was charged $2.12 twice for one movie. Who should I call to get my money back?
There is no way in which the redbox system can process a dvd as being rented unless the credit card itself was swiped at the machine. Either you, someone you know, or someone who stole your card, used it at a redbox. It is not redboxes fault that you don't know how to keep tabs on where your credit card is being used, because you wouldve seen the rental charge of 1.00 per dvd a month prior to being charged the $80.00, wierd that that didn't alert you? Don't you think? Or maybe you rented the dvd's, and wanted your money back. Generally, it's customers like you scamming redbox, not the opposite way around. And I'll bet you $100.00 that you did not do anything about it. Because you and I both know that you are aware of what happened to the movies and that you wouldn'y get anywhere if you made it public. :]
overcharged multiple times
I was looking over my credit card charges over the last 90 days and noticed that Red Box has over charged me 6 times out of 19 transactions! Charges were $26.50 $4.24 $25.44 $2.12 $18.02 and $18.02. Red box has over charged me over $80.00 in the last 90 days. I have no idea what I got charged before this. I can't believe I didn't catch this sooner.
I am calling customer support to find out if they can fix this or not. The call is documented below.
-Made my call at 9:00PM EST
-9:12 Reached an agent (Angel)
-I am getting told that I did not return movies.
-Supervise is telling here that these are valid charges and they are going to "check the machine" at one of the locations we used to return the movies often. Errors happened at multiple locations.
- 9:28 and she is still check with her supervisor.
- 9:31 Said they checked the machine and there is nothing wrong with any of the machines. I am now back on hold.
- 9:36 getting a supervisor on the phone so I am on hold again. She is saying that movies that I returned were never rented again so I must not have returned them.
-9:39 Angel is transferring me to Nick, she transferred me to herself and put me back on hold to check the extension.
-9:40 now talking to Nick. I'm asking for my credit card to be removed from your system. Was told by that another movie that I returned has not been returned. I will be getting a call with in 7 days to let me know if they can find the movie.
-The call has been ended 9:54. The call id was 4472316
I hope that if you have ever used red box that you check your fees asap. I am still in shock that I got ripped off this bad and am calling my credit card company to dispute the charges.

I never got the final promised credit from Red Box. I will never use Red Box again and am now a vary happy Netflix customer.

I got two $10 credits 2-9-2009.
An additional $26.50 was charged as stated in my 2-6-2009 conversation with support. I have yet to receive the third $10.00 credit. I will have to again call support the next time I get time.
2-6-2008
Called at 9:00 PM on hold for 13 minuets.
The movie is still not returned they couldn't find it. I again told them I had returned all of the movies. Was told that customer service rep could not give refunds. I asked to talk to a supervisor.
I got to talk to Jessica (1786) at 9:56. She is giving me a $10 refund for every missing movie rental. The first two movies have been charged and are being refunded now. The third call id will be given when next movie is charged on 2-12-08. The call ended at 10:08, it is not 10:17 and still no email with with refund conformation numbers. I will update again in regards to that status of my refunds
2-6-2009 Seven Days has passed. No word about the missing movie... email or phone call. No credit card charge has posted as of yet.
I am having this same issue. What can be done?
I rented A dvd and it was all scratched...i didnt even get to enjoy the movie...that sucks...
I called them 30 days ago telling them that there was a time zone problem on there machines i have received 4 refunds in the last month. i asked if they were gonna audit there accounts and refund all the people who were fraudulantly overbilled and they told me only if they called in. I actually had the representative on the phone tonight as i retruned the movie.
I am in the same boat as everyone else. I was looking over my bank statement and saw two separate charges for 24 dollars each from redbox a week apart. I called customer service (after being on hold for 25 minutes) and they informed me that I did not return two movies rented at different times. She said I may be forgetful and think that I returned them. The first one was one of two I rented. They have reciept of one going back but not the other. The next was rented by itself. I am not an idiot - and fully remember returning those movies. I am out 48.00 for a couple of crummy movies.
The same thing happened to me just like the thread states. Returned movies and they said I did not. And charged my card multiple times. They are rude and act as if their business model and kiosks are flawless. When in fact it is new and has kinks. They take no accountability whatsoever. And it is really your word against theirs.
They offered me a credit of half the charge. Why would I accept a credit I said? To admit that you are right and you still make half of 24.00 on me for a movie i returned the next day? NO WAY!
If you think they are going to help you, think again. And prepare to sit on hold for 20 minutes or more over some movie you tried to pass an hour and a half watching.
Dispute with your credit card company. This is fraud and Red Box will be on it's way to a class action lawsuit. If you rent from Red Box then you are vulnerable to this. Truth is a company cannot make money renting DVD's at a dollar a night, but they sure can by screwing you. And that is what they are doing. CONSUMER BEWARE.
I'm also trying to get buy-in for a class action lawsuit against Redbox.
I recently had an experience on 6/26/09 where I was erroneously charged $76.32. When I called Redbox customer service, they gave me the run around that it was a computer glitch on their end and that it would be credited back to my account in 2-3 days.
It's now been 2 weeks and still nothing has been done. I've called 4 times since my initial call and they tell me each time 24-48 more hours.
I went ahead and checked around with my friends and neighbors and several of them had the same issue happen. None of them have gotten their refunds either. I submitted a Consumer Complaint to our Attorney General's office in Iowa.
I agree whole heartedly...Imagine this...if Redbox overcharges, for example 50 people per day at one rental unit, say they have over 50 rentals in a central location. At 1.00 per person(50) per rental(50) unit...that is $2500 they receive in overcharges for just $1.00!
Now multiply that times cities, times units, times individuals!
Hey...they can get rich over night at 2500 x 365 days = $912, 500.
Check out your receipts...already I am in dispute over $30.00 worth of overcharges and they have the nerve to have an attitude saying how can they be sure they sent the charge to my credit card company?
So, how did my credit card company get the charge and pay it?
Go figure...
I've decided to fill out a FRAUD form with my credit card company and get a new card!
I'm not sure I'll use a Redbox again with this one!

yeahhhhHH! redbox CSR tell the noob how it is!
If you paid as much attention to the titles as you did to your Big Mac, then you'd see that the screen says the original year of release right in the title. For example... The Karate Kid (1984). I found it funny that you chose to not use a specific example... Because there isn't one.
