In 2022 I assumed a VA loan to purchase my home. Rocket conducted an escrow analysis as part of the closing process. The initial calculation did not include my home owners insurance (I provided a copy prior to closing) and they added unneeded mortgage insurance. This was rectified and I received a refund.
Rocket then calculated county property taxes using the previous owners tax statement rather than the publicly available taxes available on the county website. Rocket undercharged me for a year.
During this years analysis, Rocket discovered their error and is recouping the shortage by spreading the payment over 24 months. During this most recent analysis yet another error was discovered which further exacerbated the error and increased my payment.
I've spoken to the escalation department about this. They state that while Rocket is responsible for collecting escrow, that the homeowner is responsible for ensuring the calculations are correct. Their solution is that I should pay the escrow difference and be responsible for all taxes going forward.
The representative at Rocket escalation has admitted errors were made by Rocket. They stated that they would let the escrow department know and hope it would improve. Additionally, they told me that VA assumption loans were new to Rocket and labor intensive.
Desired outcome: To ensure this does not happen again I'm asking that Rocket pay half (6 months) of the county taxes due.
