Shopko Stores Operating theft & fraud

I brought my daughter to Shopko Optical the evening of 8 Jan. 2011 for an eye exam and to see what they offered for eyeglasses. A set of eyeglasses were selected and we were told that a week would be required for the eyeglasses to be produced. I returned home and made some telephone calls to other optical businesses and found that the same product could be purchased for $30 less. I called Shopko Optical the next morning and cancelled the eyeglasses. I returned to Shopko Optical on 18 Jan. 11 to purchase the glass frame off the display that my daughter liked and told Shopko Optical that I had cancelled the eyeglasses nearly immediately. I was disturbed that the eyeglasses were still an issue! I went to another optical product vender on 20 Jan. 2011, only to find out that Shopko Optical had fraudulently billed the insurance for eyeglasses and used all the benefit. THIS IS THEFT AND FRAUD BY SHOPKO OPTICAL! These criminals billed the insurance immediately, took $124.00 out of my account, without the sale of a product. There is no excuse for this behavior. I will be making a complaint to the police department later today and take other actions. DO NOT SHOP AT SHOPKO OR THEIR OPTICAL DEPARTMENT

so you are angry that you changed your mind and found it cheaper. you wasted the sales staff's time. as soon as a patient leaves my office there selection is put into there insurance companies data base wrapped up and shipped out the same day to the insurace companies lab. I would say they were doing there job very well that day and fast. your insurance company has so many rules and reg. you have no idea.

they put the order in as soon you place the order - not their fault you compare prices AFTER you make a purchase. its the way of the world with insurance - shame on you for not being proactive.

Shopko Stores Operating employment issues

I am writing this complaint more just to let people know that they should even bother with applying for Shopko. I applied over a month ago for a part time postion with them and was shortly after called in for my first interview. it went good i thought because the next day i had my second interview this time with the Store Manager. Now after the interview i was told i would recieve a call within the next three days as to whether or not i got the job. No call ever came which i why i am reporting this complaint. I heard the other day on the radio about the 5 nastiest things employers have done when it comes to hiring new applicants and one of them is an apparent failure to do a courtesy call as to whether or not a person has got a job. Now cause of this i will no longer shop at Shopko ever again and neither will my friends or family. I feel anyone who has gone through this shouldn't shop at shopko eithier. i am spreading the word because i believe something needs to be done about this. This is ridiculous and i wont tolerate it. If Shopko is reading this, i will make you fall down, you will lose more and more customers. The word has spread.

Just as well. Heard stories of managers sleep ing in Montana stores while in store. And employees that had caught them tell other teammates, but fear they will lose their jobs if they told store manager or HR

My professor teaches a sociology class. She was telling us about her horror encounter with Shopko from discrimination. To make this short, she is Caucasian and she adopted 2 kids from the Dominican republic who were dark skinned. Her son applied and went through the same steps that you did and at the end of the last interview they told him that all the jobs were filled. So my professor goes in to talk to the store manager about how she felt her son was discriminated against. They offered her son a job and she told them no. Why after all they have been through. I understand your frustration. Good luck to you.

So let me get this straight... you're complaining about the whole company because you didn't get a call back after an interview? Not the ONE person who handles this stuff.

You're not ever going to shop at a store again because they didn't hire you, or call to tell you no thanks?

Sounds to me like they hit the nail on the head by not giving you a job. If you act like this because you got rejected by a company, I can't imagine what you'd do when a rude customer told you off. I can almost imagine the complaint...

... "I'm never going to help another person from Texas again! I'm telling my whole family and all my friends NEVER to go to Texas! If a Texan is reading this, I will make you fall down, you will lose more and more tourists! The word has spread!"

Shopko Stores Operating you run the add for 3 days and you were out by noon the first day

I went to my local Shopko today to buy a Sony Bravio television that was on sale for 3 days. It was on sale for $859. When we got there, they were out! You run the add for 3 days and you were out by noon the first day. I complained at the front desk and was told that the store only had 3 televisions to start with. What a way to do business! I am going to give you all the free press that I can.

Shopko Stores Operating harassed and wrongly accused...

On December 21 around 5:30pm, at the Shopko Store Location in North Branch, MN, my friends and I was wrongly accused and harassed by security and a store employee in the parking lot. My boyfriend had just purchased a box of condoms and met us by the doors of the main entrance. He proceeded to put the shopko bag which contained the purchased condoms in his jacket pocket we left to my car and got to the turn when the man, who claimed to be "head of security" stepped infront of my car, while on the phone and proceed to signal to roll down my window.

And so I did and then he yelled at us and cursed profanity, accusing us of shop lifting and that we will be prosecuted. And So the employee walked out there also, who had personal issues with one of our friends, because she turned her in for driving drunk. My boyfriend then proceeded showing the explictly rude "head of security" the recipt and the condoms, showing proof of purchase. He then proceed to say "You are ###ing lucky!" in a rude manner as if we actually did something wrong. He then walked away in a rush with the employee into the store once again on his cell phone. He never apologized for falsely accusing us and the fact the worker had personal grief on a friend and then decide to cause trouble on us is extremely unacceptable.

I have never been harassed this rudely by any store or person in my life like I have been tonight. I will never be going to Shopko in North Branch, MN again in my life.

Irish! I could not get over your analogy of this complaint. After looking through more or less 30 of your 140+ comments I noticed you side with the company the person complains about. I will bet 98% of the time you side with the company that is complained about. You are negative, insufferable and discourteous to say the least. You filed a complaint saying you were accused of stealing a VCR accidentally!? You want people to believe you!? You have an ID of IRISH. I know there are black irish, never the less, I never seen an African American that is IRISH. Is this a game to you, or do you have a problem?

Most of your comments have thumbs down. I also have noticed Trevor also follows your comments.

I was compelled to comment on IRISH. I would not doubt if there is a complaint on IRISH

Shopko Stores Operating poor customer service made someone cry

Dear Shopko CEO;
An incident occurred on September 2, 2009 that I think you should be made aware of. In the town of Kimberly, WI their was an elderly couple that would shop at the near-by Shopko store quit often. You could tell be watching them that after all these years they were deeply in love. They always came in together too. That is until the day the incident occurred. On this day the man came in alone picked up a few items and brought them to a register. As it happens there was a special sale going on and it was senior savings day. When it came time to present his savings card to the cashier nothing happened. No discount. The cashier tried the card several times but nothing worked. The manager was called over. The manager looked at the customer’s items and said that nothing qualified because it was all paper products and snatched up an ad to prove it was there in the fine print. At this point, the elderly man’s eyes welled up and he began to cry. The manager would do nothing and the cashier could not do anything without manager approval. The man tottered off with none of his purchases explaining to the cashier as he went that he had got up early specifically to come to this sale. The ad said a day of fun and savings and he guessed he was going to have neither. His wife had died three weeks ago and nothing was going to go right for him anymore.
The point of the story is many depending on how you approach it. One having a senior discount that is not on basic items can lose your company sales. Two not letting cashiers be empowered to make their own judgment calls is frustrating to all involved, is poor customer service and again can lose sales. Three it hurts Shopko’s image. Because of this one incident, that customer may now hate Shopko, the cashier hates her job, and I no longer wish to work for Shopko although I was just considering applying. Those are the current known consequences, but what if more people hear about this story. As you can probably see, it is time for a few policy changes. Please do something to fix this mess.

Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen

Love the blue cup-red cup analogy!

Concerned Citizen,

Your complaint is terribly unfounded. The man wasn't crying about his discount, he was crying because his wife died. If everyone with a dead relative could get unofficial discounts from Shopko, then Shopko would be no more. If this were a small community mom-and-pop store where everyone knew one another and store credit was available for people in need, then we might be talking. That is not the case. How many people shop at shopko who have had spouses die? How many people could get away with making up a dead spouse story to get a discount? I'm not saying this man made up a sob story to get unwarranted discounts, but a vast majority of people would. How long do they get the discount? 3 weeks? 3 months? What is the average period of mourning? Do we require proof of recent death?

Understand that Shopko, Walmart, Kmart etc. are large companies that have little to no regard for feelings outside of customer satisfaction. If you treat one person with a discount, you have to give everyone else the same privilege. Besides, paper products, electronics etc are so close to at-cost for Shopko, that any discount on these items will be a loss for the company.

Although I can feel for the man since he had just lost his wife I see no wrong doing here.

Why is it that in this day and age we EXPECT companies to bend over for us? So the discount doesn't apply to paper products, chemicals, electronics, etc... It has been this way for at least two years! The company has every right in the world to offer sales or discounts on items they choose. Rather than be thankful that there is a senior discount at all, the general discussion on this is complaints on what isn't given.

More and more I stand in lines listening to complaints about what someone isn't being given. I rarely, if ever, have to wait in line for someone to say "thank you" for what you do receive.

Again, I feel sorry for the gentlemans situation, but the fact is that the store has a policy... we as consumers should learn that we have to follow it. Complaining about it just makes us look like 3-yr olds that are ticked off mom got us a blue cup, not the red one!

Shopko Stores Operating rude customer serivce

My Mom had fallen and broke her glasses. My husband made an appointment for an eye test and new glasses for her. We arrived on time and we confronted with a rude receptionist. She walked away from us and talked to someone in the back before coming back to us. We were told to take Mom into the room and get her into the chair. She is in a wheelchair and needed assistance. I was told I had to move her wheelchair out of the room so they could have more space and then promply said "oh just leave it there". A very rude "eye doctor" came in a stated that Next time come in earlier so they had more time to get ready. I apologized and said that my husband has asked about that and was assured that extra time was not needed. It was like they did not want to deal with a person who is handicapped! Needless to say we were shocked and upset. We helped Mom back into her chair and left. We will find another place were customer service is a priority. You would think, especially in this economy, that the stores would take extra care of the customers they had. The recession will end and I'm sure the stores like Shopko will not have stated in business. I will never set foot in another Shopko store and will make sure that everyone knows about our experience.

The manager at this shopko store is very hard to understand. He did not seem to know where certain items were when i asked for help. I also heard him interacting with other employees, and he seemed to be very rude and degrading while talking to them.

Hi:
I know pot has maybe been smoking. Do not have Lori Reid working there. She was a pot smoker all the time. She will try changing the store and fire customers. I would not be there buying if you do that. Do not have her. Lori has a friend, shopko, that smokes pot as well. 66839.

And...you are correct when you say YOU are NOT Shopko...however, Shopko and any business should monitor, train, and care about the people they employ. If an employee feels that it is okay to be rude to customers, and management fails to rectify this problem, then the business will go out of business with time. Its a proven fact. We shall see...

We shall see how long Shopko survives with the complete lack of concern for their customer base as I have read from the series of complaints here. I don't give them five years from today, which is 8 January, 2017.

In response to to JThornburg's comments; With an attitude of which you have expressed, it would be no surprise of how your life shall turn out, which would not be on a positive note, I'm afraid. I pity you, I honestly do. You seem quite cocky and have an attitude of self entitlement, which causes me to believe you are young or just simply a person of lacking class and refinement. What YOU fail to realize, or learn, is that CUSTOMERS are the BLOOD to ANY business endeavor and without a customer base, you simply do not have a business. With this being said, the customer should be respected and cared for in such a manner that they will want to return to a business over and over in order for the business to succeed. Do you honestly believe Sears and Roebuck, Macy's, or any other long lived business came as far as they did with an attitude such as yours? You are very fortunate, indeed, to have poor management to answer to because if I were your manager or supervisor or in corporate, you, and people such as yourself, would not be working for me at all.

I work at shopko lol.

Rude? Nah, most of us are pretty polite, except a lot of the service deskers. (customer service) They get fed up with having to deal with ###s and idiots all day, our return policy laminated to the ###ing counter, read it. You'll get burned if you don't, our staff can't do anything if you were misinformed, we can't break our own return policy because one poor ### failed to read

Big fat liars - I can't disagree with that, often we aren't trained on specific policies and some hesitate to ask about policies, and give false information out.

Unprofessional - Yeah, we are very unprofessional, but it makes it a nice place to work at.. which causes most of the employees to enjoy their job, or at least not hate it. I've never seen anyone I work with be rude to anyone (except at the service desk)

People need to realize, when you deal with somebody at a store, you're not dealing with 'shopko' You're dealing with jimmy who lives on 2nd street. You're dealing with somebody who feels comfortable treating you however they do. Me? I am always as polite as I can be.. along with a lot of my co-workers. some people think it's OK to be rude if it's been a long difficult day. What people need to realize is that those people ARE NOT Shopko. When they're rude to you it's because they were ok with it, not shopko.

Granted, those people represent Shopko, but only because people see it that way. I know when I go to Wal-Mart and the greeter fails to greet me. It's because that guy messed up, not Wal-mart.

I purchased a camera costing over 200 bucks and I went to take it back because it had a provblem and the manager sat there and looked at the camera while it was messing up and still said he was going to charge me the 15% restocking fee.
Customer service has been nothing but rude with me and on top of it all they are trying to get me to pay the 15%, no way, I am reporting them to the BBB and if I have to I will take this all the way to small claims court.
I use to buy a lot of things from Shopko but because of this I will never ever buy another thing. Oh and by the way I have only took back one other thing to Shopko ever since i had shopped there. Their Hospitality towards the customer is really bad and I highly suggest to everyone out there not to shop at Shopko, espescially not in the electronics department.

There is one other thing, the girl that had sold me the camera had dropped it while it was in the box. I ask the girl if something was wrong with it would i be able to return it without paying the 15% and she had told me yes.
Be careful of Shopko, they are nothing but a bunch of rude big fat liars.
