bias approach; coverage southampton vs liverpool friday 5th april 2019
Irrespective of position or public standing an employer is responsible for their staff under their employment and should adhere to employment law. Last night a member of their team (Jamie Carragher) showed complete disregard to fee payers, supporters and the general public. Unconscious bias can sometimes be very difficult to highlight but targeted bias is unacceptable. Pre, during and post broadcast his coverage and comments were directly prejudiced and did not reflect both the outcome or game. His reactions and overt bias throughout the game were both unprofessional and distasteful and whilst I appreciate that he may have allegiance to Liverpool this was not counterbalanced with an objective view from a fellow colleague. The Equality Act 2010 was established to provide employes with guidelines, examples and advice to prevent situations at work from occurring, it was obvious last night that Sky as a company do not value or support this. This is not a one of occurrence and has been repeated on numerous occasions throughout the season. This is by no means ‘sour grapes' but a reflection on what Sky continue to produce, find acceptable and condone.
jamie carragher commentary
I have been a Sky Sports subscriber since the mid 1990's now and I have to say I'm shocked that the once professional and exceptional coverage Sky provide for football is being dragged down to gutter journalism level by the insistence of Sky to give Carragher not only a job but more so a co-commentary role on Liverpool matches.
His totally biased comments during the Southampton v Liverpool game were disgraceful. It reminded me of years ago when two fans were given a commentary role and viewers could listen to that.
The site of a Sky employee running across the pitch at full time like a fanboy to interview his heroes was truly pathetic. If this was Liverpool TV then ok but it's not, it's a national broadcaster. Can you explain the double standards at which Sky operate ? On Soccer Saturday none of the panel are permitted to watch their own teams matches so why does that not apply to commentary? Gary Neville, despite his United bias is always fair to both teams regardless but Carragher cannot and will not see beyond Liverpool and as a customer it's very poor from Sky to permit it to continue.
He shouldn't have been taken back after that spitting incident last year. As it is he should never be allowed to comment on his team again, Sky viewers deserve better.
ex-players commentating on own team
Whilst I enjoy the banter between Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville on Sky Sports and have no issues with either, I do find it dismissive of the so called smaller clubs when Carragher is the co-commentator against Southampton.
Southampton supporters accept that the main focus will be on bigger teams, but do not accept so kindly the coverage to be clearly biased towards the opposition. We have our own battles at the other end of the table. At times, it seemed that Martin Tyler was trying to add balance and prompted Carragher to do the same.
I appreciate Carraghers passion for Liverpool football club, their current position in the league and that passion optimises what football is about... But the balance of opinion is more what I would expect off a local radio station for a local club, rather than something that is broadcast all over the world. It is also surprising after his suspension last season that this preferential treatment towards him and Liverpool, at the expense of other 'smaller clubs' is seen as acceptable from a relatively big company like Sky.
football commentary
Whilst Sky's coverage and analysis of football is generally very good I question, and often take exception to, their persistent use of ex-players as co-commentators. For several years we have had to endure Gary Neville's ongoing love affair with Man Utd I.e.he is incapable of objective comment when his beloved former team play, and can't conceal his glee when they manage to score. More recently his prejudices have been surpassed whenever Jamie Carragher is allowed access to a microphone when Liverpool play as he behaves like an excitable child wholly biased in favour of "his team". I don't object to commentary which is enthusiastic; however, it needs to be objective, impartial and fair-minded. These two have persistently shown themselves to be incapable of any objectivity and should clearly be barred from any commentary involving their former employers.
unprofessional commentary
The match commentary provided by Jamie Carragher during the Southampton Liverpool football match was unprofessional and unacceptable for a national broadcaster. It was like listening to a drunk Liverpool fan screaming at a TV down the pub. I do not support either side playing tonight, but the bias shown towards Liverpool by Carragher does nothing to enhance the reputation of Sky Sports. Please employ commentators who are capable of keeping their composure and providing an informed and objective commentary.
Absolutely agree.
live football commentary
I fully agree with all the previous posts. The unprofessional bias of Jamie Carragher really spoilt the enjoyment of watching the Southampton v Liverpool game as a neutral.
Why do Sky Sports continue to use him for Liverpool games when his bias is so blatant?
It's completely unnecessary as the channel has plenty of other commentators that could cover their games. So I can only assume he is deliberately chosen to antagonise opponents' fans and annoying neutrals.
Please stop using him for Liverpool games.
The unprofessionalism shown by Jamie Carragher in the Southampton v Liverpool game was a disgrace. It was like listening to a drunk Liverpool supporter shout at the telly down the pub. I thought the whole point of having commentators on a match was to give an accurate un-bias opinion on both teams that are playing. If you are going to have a supporter commentate at least have one from each side. Sky commentry has gone downhill, it not edgy or cute it's really annoying.
sky football coverage
Why do Sky persist with that completely biased spitting buffoon Carragher. His tub thumping in recent matches involving Liverpool is a disgrace. I pay £30 a month to listen to this bile
spat out of this clowns mouth... however not for much longer. I will be cancelling my subscription and suggest all fair minded football fans do the same. Sky employ the following pundits, Souness, Redknapp, Thompson, Carragher, Mellor and many more ex Liverpool players. There is no doubt Martin Tyler is also a closet Red... it us not acceptable and needs to change.
Why is Carragher allowed to commentate on Liverpool live matches when on Soccer Saturday the pundits are not allowed to cover games involving "their" teams? He is so biased it is embarrassing and adds nothing to what should be a stellar product. What should have been an enjoyable live match this evening was ruined by his inane and largely incomprehensible ramblings. It really isn't difficult Sky - either get rid of him completely or put him on the City games. Gary Neville should do the Liverpool matches. End of.
jamie carragher commentator
This commentator is so biased towards Liverpool. His gloating was unprofessional. His allegances were obviously to Liverpool. He should not be permitted to commentate on such games. He had nothing favourable to say about Southampton who actually did themselves proud. I don't think I could stomach watching another match with him as a commentator definitely letting the usual high standard of sky commentators down.
jaimie carragher
I am on the verge of cancelling my Sky Sports subscription permanently. Why is Jaimie Carragher constantly commentating on Liverpool Live Football matches? Do you not see the blatantly obvious bias this individual has? Do you find it acceptable or professional to scream out "Mo Salah, you little dancer" down the microphone when scoring against Spurs? Do you find it acceptable for one of your commentators to undo his window on a motorway and spit viciously at a 14 year old girl? Do you still not see this disgusting behavior as grounds to terminate this pathetic individuals contract?
If you continue to condone this utter disgrace of a human being I will cancel not only Sky Sports but Sky altogether.
jamie carragher
I pay my Sky Sports subscription to listen to informed opinion concerning football games not bias, cheerleading from Jamie Carragher, whose behaviour in the Liverpool v Spurs game was totally unprofessional. Carragher retained his position at Sky Sports after spitting at a child but he clearly still lacks professionalism. If Carragher is a massive LFC fans as he says, the he should be watching form the stands and not sunbjecting people to his bias commentary.
super sunday match between liverpool and spurs 31st march 2019
Sky Sports included an ex-Liverpool commentator (Jamie Caragher) as one of their commentator team. Totally unprofessional of Sky as they should provide an unbiased reporting service. It was also unprofessional to allow him (Jamie Caragher) to celebrate the winning goal broadcast on TV. I would like to lodge my disgust at Sky Sports lack of judgement and lack of respect for their viewers.
should we now call Sky Sports Scouse sports?
We need sub titles and the bias commentary is so poor not just the content and "expert" commentary, (Only if its the team they played for) its now getting very boring, when we have worked out what they have just said?
I am watching the Everton Spurs game part way through the first half commentary he has started talking about Liverpool?
Get rid of these out of work spongers and get some professional people in who have a wider knowledge of football, and people we, that is the rest of the U.K. can understand, very poor !
Totally agree he shouldn't be allowed anywhere Liverpool games.
friday premier league preview 8/3/2019 and gillette soccer saturday
Sky complaint
I am a Spurs supporter and I feel cheated continually by your programmers. Your format when presenting The Premier League Previews on the Friday and Saturday programmes follows an understandable format with the Top teams first unless it's Spurs?
Programme on Saturday starts at noon and regardless of our league position over the last four years in the top four we appear 1.30 -2.00pm.
Tonight on the premier league preview Citeh first, okay. Liverpool second, understandable. Then Chelsea? Tottenham way down the rota again at 7th or 8th. It's continuous and obvious bias and manipulation by programmers which Sky Sports should be aware of and should stop.
As an example this prejudice against Spurs surfaced a couple of years ago when openly on Gillette Saturday
"Thomson's" stated "nobody likes Spurs" gaining guffaws from the rest of the presenters.
Thanks a bunch, but Spurs Supporters are loyal and supporters of diversity, and minority groups and don't deserve public derision and bias from your marvellous
Sport Division. You can do better and cut out private agendas and toxic bias.
Regards,
Keith Horton 76years old, 54 years a season ticket holder at The Spurs, and a lifelong football fan.

news
On Sky sports news today 04/03/19 your presenters spoke about the Scottish cup quarter final between Aberdeen and Rangers which finished 1-1. This was followed by a clip of Stephen Gerrard giving his after match comments followed by a Rangers player speaking about the equalising goal. There was no coverage of comments from the Aberdeen manager or Aberdeen players, and no mention of the trouble caused by the Rangers fans and the damage they caused at Pittodrie Stadium hardly balanced reporting. I really think Sky sports news is normally very good but this apparent love affair with Steven Gerrard and the fact that he seems to be seen as the only voice of Scottish football by Sky sports news quite disappointing.
Commentators gary neville and martin tyler
I have been following football for over 30 years now, and never in that time have I ever experienced such biased and unprofessional commentary by a commentary team.
Commentators have a privileged job and it is their duty to remain unbiased, neutral and professional . During the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, I was absolutely appalled by the commentators . They showed so much enthusiasm and excitement every time Everton attacked, but didn't show the same enthusiasm and excitement when Liverpool attacked .
I know both Gary Neville and Martin Tyler are Manchester United supporters and we all know about the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United . If I'm being honest I was very upset at the manner both of commentators commentated during the game.
I think it's only fair that both commentators make some kind of statement assuring sky sports subscribers such as myself who pay a lot of money to watch the club I follow, that they were not being biased and if it came across like that then they never intended to upset anyone.
I am not the only person who felt like this, many Liverpool fans who are also sky sports subscribers felt the same about the Gary Neville and Martin Tyler commentary during the Everton vs Liverpool game played on 03/03/2019.
Football is an extremely passionate sport and the banter and rivalry between two clubs playing a derby is fully expected. But commentary provided by Gary and Martin is not something you expect and I was genuinely angry and upset at the way they commentated during our game. I am very disappointed by the lead commentators of premier league football who were chosen to commentate during our game .
Please send me an email with a response to this complaint, as I am very tempted to switch providers so I don't have to experience such biased and unprofessional commentary that was provided during Everton vs Liverpool played on 03/03/2019.
Kind regards

I have just had to sit through on of my favourite early Sunday programmes (The Sunday Suplliment) and had to listen a panelist called Melissa Reddy. Apart from her inabiltiy to speak in a clear concise voice, she doesnt seem to know much about the game. She had no ideas of her own, just coming out with statements that other people have said, with no new ones of her own. All she did was agree with the other panelists with no constructive points of her own. Please, Please, Please, dont let her become a reguler feature.
pedantic writers
I'm always reading your news reports on football results an pundit discussions an I feel the people you employ simply don't know anything about football. All this bull talk about Man City is really grinding my gears! They will not win a quadruple! No team in history has ever won a quadruple so why will Man City win all 4 trophies this season? Is this because they were such a good side last season? The season every side in the league caked their trousers an rolled over for them? They will not win the quadruple maybe a double. Liverpool for the title due to only losing 1 game in 27. So go sort out your odds! because city can not be 2018/19 favourites losing 4 games out of 27 to small clubs. The probablity is they will drop more points. It's not guarnteed Liverpool will end up champions, but from today the 25th of February 2019 they are 100 percent favourites for it! So come off it! Stop masterbating over Guardiola! An ps Smalling didn't "nearly win it at the end" he made 0 contact on the ball an didn't even attempt to! What he almost wins it because he got in behind but couldn't do anything to score? You're all on heavy drugs! You really need to look at your recruitment when it comes to employing news reporters. Make sure they know a tad about the game. An tell Kevin De Bruyne keep dreaming on that quadruple kid.
andy walker
I would like to know why Andy walker thinks it's acceptable and why he would think that Kris Boyd loves being called an orange [censored]. Why would he love sectarian abuse hurled at him. Come on. Poor poor poor from your sky pundit. He can clearly be herd laughing, saying he loves it. Then when sectarian abuse gets hurled at Steve Clarke, he's sad and can't believe this still happens.
sky sports service andy walker
Recently Andy Walkers comments regarding Steve Clark's abuse contradicts his comments on Kris Boyds ‘banter'. These actions I don't condone from fans but fairness is not presented from your pundits further bias I will be one of many to cancel my full sky service.
I hope this complaint helps sky understand the frustration of many Rangers supporters who cannot sit back and watch us be mutilated.
Regards
William
andy walker sky sports team
Hi I would like to know why your pundit andy walker thought it was a joke when celtic fans abused chris boyed. Walker says boyd loves it when the celtic fans called him a fat orange bast*rd and threw coins at him, this is not on in scottish football people are being put in jail for this sort of behaveur but walker thinks its a joke. On wednesday night steve clark the kilmarnock boss was called a feinin bast*rd and walker blew up about it saying this is not on in scottish football, so how is it ok to be called an orange bast*rd and he laughted about it on sky sports. But its not alright to call anyone a feinin bast*rd there should be no place for it in football never mind on sky sports I would like to hear your thoughts on this please. A concerned football fan in scotland. Ps thanks for taking the time to read this will await your reply. John sneddon
a commentator
Andy Walker's comments from the Kilmarnock v Celtic game where Chris Boyd was called a "fat Orange B*****d" by a large section of the Celtic support and pelted with coins, were a disgrace. He laughed and joked that "he loves it".
In itself this would be enough to have him taken off air, but he compounded this a few days later when commenting on Steve Clarks outburst about sectarianism in scottish football. Saying how sad he was for Steve to have been called a "Fenian B*****d" shows total bias. Does Andy not think "he loves it".
There is no place in scottish football for sectarianism of any kind, but to give air time to a biased commentator who is offended by one side and jokes or trivialises the other does not show Sky Sports in a good light.
