A news channel disappeared from the blue lineup this morning on my LG thinQ. After some searching I found a way to get to chat. The chat rep said a tech would call and when he did, a surprise. The Sling tech wanted unfettered access to my PC... not anything to do with my TV and the missing channel. I challenged him on the loss of a channel using Sling on my TV so no need to access my PC. He said there is no other way, I asked him to tell me the steps and I would do them, and he immediately hung up on me. This is nefarious even on the surface. When you grant access to an outsider to your personal PC, they have access to everything including deleted files. Never allow any access to your PC unless your employer or the maker. I did not know the buffering problems were Sling's fault until reading complaints elsewhere. 1 device at a time on 300Mbps wifi.
Recommendation: Sling's buffering problems are likely related to the Net bandwidth they buy and their need to know what's in your personal PC need to be primary considerations.
You have got to be kidding me — that was an attempted scam, and for what? No professional tech support would ever require access to your PC just because a TV channel is missing. Sling is already notorious for offering poor service, but that really does take the cake. If they claimed to solve the problem, don’t be too hopeful. Just report it to Sling corporate, and don’t expect too much. If they refuse to solve the problem, then cancel and switch to a better streaming platform. And don’t even think about giving random “tech support” remote access to your computer. Block them on everything and never contact them again.
