I shopped at your Lichfield branch today at around 3pm
I was returning a dress which had been displayed on the wrong size hanger.
I took the dress to customer services to register the problem and request a replacement item.
The assistant at the desk was extremely abrupt and offhand with me but did invite me to change the dress, which I duly did.
Whilst in the clothing department I saw a pair of jeans which were reduced in price and decided to purchase them.
As the "attended" checkouts were busy, I went to the self service tills and purchased them on my credit card after swiping my points card.
I then placed them in my bag and moved over to stand by my sister who was also at the checkout.
An assistant came to me and enquired if I had just payed for the clothing item to which I said yes.
She asked if the item had a tag attached, I looked and discovered that it had. She said she would remove the tag and asked for my receipt stating that she could not remove the tag without the receipt. I had not thought to press for a receipt and so did not have one.
She asked for my points card as she said it would show the purchase.
However, the purchase was not to be seen as your computer had not updated and would not show todays purchases and was showing purchases for the 20th only and it was the 23rd!
After involving 4 other members of your staff, I was now beginning to feel that I was suspected of shoplifting.
One of the assistants said that it was not a problem as it would show up on the cameras! at this point I was really getting upset and managed to think to show the purchase receipt which was on my Phone, which proved that I had paid the correct price for the item 8 minutes previously.. This was finally accepted and I left the shop feeling very upset at the insinuated suggestion that I was a thief!
My previous use of Tesco shops has been regular but I feel reluctant to visit the Lichfield store any time soon. Please look into this matter and ensure that your computers are current to avoid this sort of problem in future.
My club card number is [protected] Mrs B. Timmins.
Desired outcome: Please advise your staff that not all of your customers are congenital thieves!
