On November 14, 2023 while going through the TSA Precheck security line, my wife's leather jacket was ripped/shredded across the back shoulder area while going through the xray machine. When a supervisor came to talk to us, he denied the xray machine caused the damage and made us feel like we were just trying to scam the TSA for a new jacket. When we told him how we felt in the manner that he was treating us, his reply was "well, you don't know just how many people do". He said twice that they could review the coat as it went through and we said yes, please do but he never did it. There was no apology that it happened with our without accepting fault, just a shoulder shrug that nothing could be done and his machine was not responsible for shredding the coat. We are not even filing a complaint asking for compensation for the coat, we are just angy at the uncaring, dispassionate response. I did file a complaint with TSA and a day later they just provided the form to use to file a formal complaint (94) and said nothing about how we were treated by the supervisor. This is exactly why TSA has the negative reputation that it does.
Desired outcome: Be better, more understanding and compassionate civil servants. Act like you give a damn.
