I contacted a representative on the website chat to claim the price match guarantee as
my non-cancellation booking through trip.com cost $35.33 MORE than if I had booked it directly through the hotel website, and the site claims " We Price Match -
We aim to offer you the best possible price. If you find a cheaper option elsewhere, we'll refund the difference". There is no link posted, nor any with statement included indicating any further terms or limitations. Only through a customer service chat, after purchase, was a link for terms and limitation of the price matching policy available to me. Then you find that price match guarantee is not any kind of guarantee, and retroactively has very narrow and restrictive terms hidden from the consumer. I. When you are able to see the details you see that you will not be refunded any monetary difference in what you've paid money for. Instead of getting the difference refunded, and putting you monetarily correct, they will offer you site-restrictive, imaginary "coins" which each are only a small fractional amount per dollar of the difference spent over the lower price available elsewhere. The use of the term "Price match guarantee" is exceedingly deceptive as you are still out the cash difference in pricing, are not made aware of restrictions, and lose a large amount of value in time spent disputing the issue. It is no guarantee at all despite not having a 'terms & conditions apply' labeling or an easy to find link to its restrictions anywhere price matching is mentioned on the website's public pages. This is a tremendously deceptive practice of burying terms as well as lulling consumers into a false sense of safety in securing a full return of funds when the exact lodging is found for a lesser amount.
To resolve this, the site should include the fact that there are terms and restrictions anywhere it claims they match lower pricing. A link should be given any place on the site where it claims this statement directing consumers to the terms and conditions page so that consumers can be informed instead of deliberately misled
Claimed loss: 35.33, 4 hours wages @ $18/hr
Desired outcome: Matching price claims must include a disclaimer w/links to terms. I ask to be refunde the cost charged less available price: $35.33 & fair compensation for time & work costs due to this lack of disclosure.

Never again will I use trip.com for anything. Period. My non-cancellation booking through them cost $35.33 MORE than if I had booked it through the hotel website. The "price match guarantee" is NOT a guarantee, but you won't know that initially because you have to go down a rabbit hole to find its very narrow and restrictive terms - which no average person will do until or unless there is an issue. When you do navigate the maze and you eventually find the details, you see that you will never be refunded any difference in what you've paid money for. Instead of getting the difference refunded, should it fall through the cracks of the narrow guidelines, they will give you site restrictive, imaginary "coins" which each are only a small fractional amount of the wasted dollars you would still have by directly booking with the hotel yourself and can only be used on trip.con. I highly recommend scrolling right past trip.con to avoid the fake savings and immense frustration unless you are in an economic class that enables you to literally flush money down the toilet just because you can.
