Idling engine in Oakridge, OR
Ugh can't sleep. Union Pacific is at it again, idling Engines all night long. Haven't slept all week. Please help, I have been asking UP for help for 3 months and it is getting worse. The engines are behind directly behind my home. It's too late and I haven't slept, this is all the info I can provide for now.
Desired outcome: Stop idling
Excessive noise, vibration and fumes
Engines are left idling for extensive amounts of time, usually 24/7. These engines have been moved next to homes. This area has no barriers and is closer to the street. There are several areas that were designed to accommodate the engines with barriers and in areas of commercial buildings.
This is creating health and environmental issues with noise, vibration and fumes. As I write this it is 44F and has been generally 38 - 42 F at night. According to AM Hunt the UP representative this engines can be run at 35F. They are not following their own regulations. I have been calling Union Pacific since January 2021. They have ignored the problem and refuse to make changes. I have lived in Oakridge, OR for 20 years without these problems until about 2 years ago. Two of my neighbors are moving and another wants to move.
I have to drink and use drugs to be able to stay at my home.
Desired outcome: STOP THE IDLE!
Road block for long duration
Been waiting for approximately 30 minutes for a train outside Soda Springs Idaho. Valley view Dr. This is now the second time this has happened in 3 months. There is no other exit. Glad I am not showing signs of a heart attack right now or something else serious. Just need to get to one of our plow guys that is stuck trying to serve the public in town. Union Pacific has to come up with a different plan if they want these trains to be so cause you will put lives in jeopardy.
Desired outcome: Need more road crossings through out the valley if Union Pacific can’t figure out a better place for transfer
Homeless camps allowed on their private property
As a PBID, (Property Business Improvement District) we continually clean up and use security to hold the community to a higher standard.
The allowance of homeless camps on the private UP property at Roseville Road/ Madison Avenue in North Highlands has caused the biggest mess, bacteria, drug infested area - due to not policing the area, nor allowing our security/sheriff's to move them off your private land.
The mountains of trash, which are easily pushed onto the track is a violation for all involved. We are fearful of those living 'next to the tracks, ' getting hit, and/or putting trash on the tracks, which could cause a wreck.
We are willing to 'police the area' with your approval and/or help you to do this and keep us all safe. As a private property — you have the option of removing camps, this is allowable under the law. We would like to 'clean up the trash, remove the homeless camps and monitor the area up Roseville Road from Palm Avenue to the Overpass of I-80. The County of Sacramento allows the PBID to provide services so that the businesses and residents are not compromised and able to have a 'quality of life.'
If you would like to discuss our concerns, please call me at [protected] or email: [protected]@80WattDistrict.com. Thank you for your quick response.
Regards,
Rebekah Evans, Executive Director

Desired outcome: Give us NOTICE OF AGENCY to clean up and remove the homeless camps on your private property within the PBID.

Union Pacific is a horrible organization. They tried over the course of a year to bully me into signing a contract with them because literally less than a square foot of a 100 year old structure I own was over their precious property line. I was forced to hire an attorney who explained to them that they couldn't just force me to sign a contract with them for a predetermined amount. 2 years later they're still badgering us insisting that we pay thousands of dollars for a property survey, send them pictures, etc. the proof that we had to pay them came off of some 100 year old land plat maps that didn't even reflect the actual structure that we own. The amount of power and control these bullies have is unbelievable.
trash along the tracks
I'm a community leader in the City of South Gate and I am reaching out to Union Pacific Railroad on behalf of my nearly 15, 000 members on our community page. There is trash that has remained on scene for over 6 weeks. Union Pacific Railroad was called but there has been no response. This pollution in our city poses a health hazard to our residents. I am also in contact with our City of South Gate Mayor Belen Bernal who is also responding to this matter. I insist that Union Pacific Railroad responds expeditiously to this matter. Thank you.

You might have figured this out already but UPRR is above the law. They do what they want.
nearly impassable crossing
Crossing in Ennis, Texas at M.L.K. and Main Street. Crossing is nearly impassable. Complained several times but no work done as of present time. I'm going to have my vehicle front end repaired and I think I'll send the bill to Union Pacific. Thanks, Don Brewer! I was employed at Southern Pacific for over 10 years and the company was very responsive to complaints of this nature.I do not know a person had to have a 350 ch complaint for that complaint to be considered. I guess I'll ramble on in order to reach that 350 ch limit. Thanks again.
blocking crossings
All crossings in Tama were blocked for nearly 2 hours while emergency responders had to take a longer travel distance as another train was blocking the crossings on the indian settlement. This went on while Tama County Communications called and were told the train would be moving in 10 mins. additionally 30 mins later the train finally moved. This has started to become a issue and a incident is bound to happen of a life and death when all of our crossings are blocked there is 3 blocks to the south side of the tracks in the City of Tama that do require medical, fire and law enforcement protection.
My name is Mark Lang. I live at 5780 SE 56th in Carlisle, Iowa.
For the past couple years the windmill distribution center located nearby has been blocking our only two roads in and out for hours at a time.
We have had people miss dr. appointments, be late for work/church/or other engagements, and have had children miss the school bus.
There are two roads in and out of this neighborhood.
What I request of you is that your trains only block one road at a time so that we can get in and out of our homes.
We are willing to tolerate the inconvenience of going around the longer way as long as we have a way in and out.
No one here wants to go through the agony or cost of a lawsuit, especially of an emergency were to occur, so I am politely asking for some cooperation on Union Pacific's part here.
Thank you,
Mark Lang
trains blowing horns after 11pm
Our city (La Grande, OR) recently passed an ordinance that trains are no longer suppose to blow their horns in town. The city has paid to redo all the train crossing in town to bring them up to what Union Pacific wanted due to the ordinance. The trains don't blow their horns during the day. They do, however, start blowing their horns after 11pm. Can you tell me why this persists?
theft and harassment
Since the end of June there is a female driver harassing another female driver and a starter back in the office and nothing is being done. And it is being encourage by another starter that works the weekdays day shift. This driver drives company van and follows the make starter takes his and the female pictures sends them to the Lincoln branch to drives posts them on social media and to the managers over on the up side. Calls the female driver names and all kinds of things. This problem driver also steals green containers water from back room and other things at branches where she is able too. Works a shift drives to say north Platte hangs out with family and returns hours after her click should be out. Also works so much overtime it takes from other drivers. And makes sure the day starter doesn't call in the driver she harasses. I am aware this newer driver she is harassing has an attorney and is considering filing several charges against the driver and one starter. You now have railroad workers refusing to ride in this females car and driving themselves home after a long shift due to her behavior. Either you will have a lawsuit in the Marysville branch or several people quitting due to two employees that thinks it's ok to stalk harass and take pictures of employees and do as they wish
noise, vibrations, damage to personal property
I have lived at this address for almost 20 yrs. Coming from a family of railroad employees, milwaukee road, chicago northwestern and union pacific, i have loved seeing the trains go through. Some time ago, a train derailed and was all over the place. It damaged trees and property. The workers rebuilt the tracks and hill removing tress and other filtering...
Read full review of Union Pacifictrain horn all night long
In the intersection of Chimney Rock an US 90 and Hillcroft and US 90 zip 77035, trains have been blowing their horn all night when the pass by, this started Friday July the 12th and it's annoying can't get any sleep with trains passing every 30 mins or less blowing their horn like they are some where in the country, we are inside city limits to be getting all that noise at night.
the blowing of the horn on late nights
I been in my apartment for 6 months. When it get late at night. The train driver is on the horn for a long time. I have to 2 kid's and some times it wakes my kid's doing the time around 12 n early mornings. Sometimes I get woke out my sleep because of the train. I just want to know if I'm my area is a quite zone for the train. And also if they can ease off the horn around the hours 12am- til 10am.
train blocking road for over 1 hour.
Victoria, Texas DOT 912-105H at John Stock Bauer Drive. Train blocking intersection for over 1 hour and still stopped continuing to block intersection. Cars and trucks lined up waiting on train entire time. Unable to turn around at this intersection without having to go over curb and lane width median. Temp is in the HIGH 90's, with a heat index of about 108 degrees!
car weights
We received an empty UP car in with painted Load Limit of 197, 000#. We load the car to 197, 000#. UP calls to tell us the load limit is 196500# and we, AT OUR EXPENSE, have to unload the 500# because the actual car Ulmer states 196500#. PAINT YOUR CARS CORRECTLY...or is that the customers responsibility too?
UP treatment of customers is PATHETIC! No attempts whatsoever to help the customer or resolve it.
If we had any other way to ship we would...we wont even offer our customers rail option because dealing with UP gets worse every year! Treat the little guy like we dont mean a thing...GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!
noise, storage yard and response personnel
25 locomotives have been parked out front of our house more then 3 weeks. Passing engines seem to think they need to honk a minimum of 25 times passing the locomotives. There is no sleeping anymore or even having a conversation on the deck we'd like to enjoy.. Last I knew this was not a rail yard! There are no crossings all they way three town but yet all you hear are horns!
The response number gets you know where except to a person who could careless that you haven't slept in 3 weeks due to this!
railroad crossing on wadsworth rd., just east of delany rd., wadsworth, il 60083
The Union Pacific Railroad needs to do repairs as soon as possible to the crossing on Wadsworth Rd., just east of Delany Rd., in Wadsworth, Illinois 60083. The crossing is extremely rough and drivers of cars and trucks must slow way down to cross without damages to their vehicles. There is going to be an accident at this crossing if repairs aren't made soon. Thank you for your prompt attention to this crossing.
intersection
Your trains are now twice daily stopping on the tracks at the intersection of doyle venable dr & macarthur dr in north little rock, ar. During busy peak traffic hours now less. And they are staying stopped on the tracks for 2+ hours at a time... We have lived in this neighborhood 12+ years and this has never been an issue. This has been occurring for the last two weeks straight. Please address the issue.
