To Whom It May Concern:
On Monday, March 29th, 2021 I was assaulted by one of your employees, Aniqua Johnson at your store located in Washington DC, at the 1919 Michigan Ave. location. I intend to seek legal action against Ms. Johnson, and I am asking that Dollar Tree hold this employee accountable to the fullest extent. I am also requesting that Brittany Hargrove, the manager of the store be properly trained on what to do when an altercation occurs between a store employee and customer. It is unfathomable that a company such as Dollar Tree would let a monster such as Ms. Johnson continue to work at your store. She is a danger to others, and your reputation as a company.
On the 29th, I went to your location to return some items that I had purchased two days prior. Ms. Johnson incorrectly informed me that Dollar Tree did not take returns. I shared with her that I was told something different when I had shopped there earlier. She left the register and went to ask the manager who was talking/taking a smoke break out in the front of the store. The manager looked over my items and assured Ms. Johnson that all but one item could be returned. Ms. Johnson seemed to develop an attitude. I then asked how much store credit I would be receiving, and Ms. Johnson told me that the items were mine, and I could figure out the amount of the return. At this point Ms. Johnson said, "I can't stand these smart mouth [censored] customers". Ms. Hargrove intervened and said she would figure it out, but Ms. Johnson continue to curse me and called me a [censored] among other things. We exchanged words and as Ms. Hargrove was determining my credit/exchange amount Ms. Johnson continued to go back and forth to me with me calling me an "old [censored]" before walking off. Ms. Hargrove asked me to look around the store for other items to exchange for my credit. I proceeded down the food aisle. When I got to the freezer area, I overheard Ms. Johnson cursing about me. I looked to my right and she was sitting approximately 20 feet away from me in a back area. At this point, Ms. Johnson ran up to me and attacked me. She punched me in my head and knocked me to the floor. Ms. Hargrove came and escorted me out of the store. I called the police and asked them to take account of the incident. I later went to urgent care and was found to have sustained injuries to my head, knee, and neck.
This type of behavior from an employee should have severe consequences. At no time did I attempt a physical exchange with Ms. Johnson. It is even inconceivable that a verbal exchange should have ensued, being that I only came into the store to make a simple exchange of merchandise. Ms. Hargrove was also negligent because she did not file an incident report. Thank God I was able to go seek medical attention within the hour of my attack. The store manager also should have asked the employee to go to a location where we would be separated and/or I should have been asked to leave and return at a later time. I had known the idea that you allow predators to work at your stores, I would have never shopped there. While being attacked, I also lost a silver earring that was part of a pair purchased in Bali, and valued at $65. I would like to speak to the district manager/customer relations department regarding what next steps Dollar Tree intends to take to ensure that this does not happen again.
Thank you,
Ebony House
