On October 20, 2023, I took my vehicle to Express Oil Change in Conyers, Georgia located off of Highway 138. While I was speaking with the manager and tech about getting my transmission oil changed, I provided my year, make, model, and engine size to both of them. The manager and tech recommended a transmission flush, and I allowed them to perform the maintenance. In hindsight, as a new customer, I was under the impression that they knew that 6 quarts of oil goes into a Chevrolet Impala Premier vehicle with a V6 engine during a transmission flush. Therefore, after the work was completed, I paid them $187. 24
Within two weeks, I was experiencing shifting issues, and smelling a strange odor. Next, to resolve the issue, I decided to have my vehicle examined by another licensed mechanic. I visually observed an empty transmission dip stick being pulled out of my vehicle while my car was running. The mechanic opined that my vehicle was low on oil by 2 quarts of oil. In addition, I was advised to let Express Oil to contact Express Oil Change know about their negligence.
Next, on September 25, 2023, I went to receive a scheduled tune-up, and after the work was completed the GM mechanic opined during the test drive that he felt a shifting issue. Afterwards, I explained to the licensed professional that a previous transmission flush was done, and they only put in four quarts of oils in my transmission. The mechanic and the service advisor both suspected and confirmed that low transmission oil has caused internal damage to my transmission.
I was advised to leave my vehicle for an internal inspection and the cost of a new GM transmission is $5000.00 to replace which included parts and labor. This was unacceptable, and the techs that worked on my vehicle were supposed to know the correct amount of oil to put in my transmission.
After I received my tune up, I did stop by Express Oil Change/ Tire Engineers and I requested to speak with the manager and he shifted the blame on a machine which is unacceptable and refused to provide corporate information upon request.
Claimed loss: I have lost $187.24 for a substandard maintenance, and approximately $5000.00 for a transmission to be installed in my vehicle. This is going to affect my income since I drive part- time as well.
Desired outcome: A full refund of my $187.24, and part of the cost to replace my transmission
