Mavis Discount Tire - Front end alignment
I took my car, a 2008 Ford Crown Vitoria to the Douglasville Georgia location on January 16th I had previously made an appointment for 9 am that morning. They checked my car in and told me it would be about 30 minutes. Therefore, I went across the street to an Ihop to eat breakfast.
When I returned 30 minutes later, the tech was bringing the car around and upon exiting, handed me the key and told me that he could not do the alignment, because my front end was in such bad shape. The manager came out and proceeded to tell me that the front end was extremely loose and would require hubs, bearings, control arm bushings and a variety of other parts to correct.
I told him that I would have to look into that, however, I would let him know. The following Monday, I took the car to my mechanic in Douglasville (Rush Automotive) who I have done business with for over ten years. The Owner (Chuck) placed my car on the lift and examined the entire front in, with lights and by hand. Ultimately lowering it to the floor and utilizing a floor jack to lift each suspension to check for any play or looseness.
My mechanic ultimately told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the front end assemblies of my car. Not the bearings, hubs, upper or lower control arms, or anything else. Everything was as tight as could be. Adding that it did not even appear to require an alignment.
Rush Automotive is a business and Chuck (the owner) is a mechanic who has serviced and repaired my personal vehicles for over ten years. And he is always more than happy to provide needed or required repairs or service and equally happy to have my business and take my money, when service or repairs are required. And after having examined my car thoroughly? He tells me that there is absolutely nothing that he can detect wrong with the car, as alleged by Mavis Tire & Brake. Then there is a problem.
So I returned to the Mavis Tire & Brake Douglasville location this morning and asked them for a copy of their estimate for repairs on my car. The manager Norman told me that the paperwork had already been processed, but that he would give me a written estimate on a business card. Which he provided. Citing the need once again for front end work, bearings, ball joints, sway bar links etc. as listed. For a total of $1200 plus tax. After which handing me the card, he told me just to bring the card back and he would honor that price. After which he wrote his name on the front of the card and I left.
I am sure that my mechanic would have been more than happy to provide $1200 worth of services to me? Had my car needed them. But it didn't and it doesn't.
What this manager and this location have attempted to do, is to defraud me out of $1200 for services that were not required and would not have been performed. And if they had been performed? They would have been done for no valid reason or purpose. Other than for fraud and profit.
Therefore, I believe that action needs to be taken against this company and their employees. Because if their intent was to defraud me, I cannot help but believe that they have done the same to others and repeatedly.
Therefore, I am filing an official complaint and I intend to follow up with the Better Business Bureau and what other entities that exist to address fraud of this nature by a business
Desired outcome: Some form of official sanction against the company and their employees at this location.

Mavis Discount Tire - Brake wheel cylinders were improperly replaced
I was out of state when my break light came on, I stopped at the nearest car shop to find out a break cylinder had blown and I was leaking breaker fluid. Mavis Tire and Auto replaced my rear break wheel cylinders and I was able to get back home that night. The next day my car started making groaning sounds when breaking and had an odd smell. I got an appointment for the following week at my trusted car shop. It turned out the break cylinders placed at Mavis Tire and Auto were installed incorrectly and my break pads were saturated with breaker fluid. The groaning sounds and smell were caused from the friction of the breaking components dragging. If I had slammed on the breaks I could have caused a car fire. Mavis Tire and Auto were very kind and courteous, however their inexperience could have caused me my health and even potentially my life.
