Sirs or madams: This is the second time that I have written to you about the Dollar Tree store in Westfield, Massachusetts. And with such a fine location, and probable excellent revenue intake, it is a shame, really, that I feel compelled to write.
This morning, when the cashier short changed me, and went over to the little one-way glassed office, where the manager supposedly is, it was locked and no one answered her knock. She needed to reach the manager, I guess, for him or her, to authorize? Opening the cash drawer again, to give me my correct change. She told me to wait. I asked her where he or she was, and she replied, In back, I think, and when asked for a name, she did not know his or her name! By this time, the line of customers was long and she was the only cashier, and there was no manager to be found, nor one who exhibited SOME type of managerial skills, by placing another cashier up front, when it became obvious, that the people might be getting impatient.
The cashier, after ringing up a couple of customers, finally gave me my correct change, and no one was needed to authorize? Her to do it. She wished me a nice day, and I left. She was obviously working diligently to ring up the customers, and yet no manager took notice, to send someone else to help her reduce the line.
I have been a supervisor and were I to walk in, and if I was from Headquarters, I would CERTAINLY have "counseled" the manager in no uncertain terms. To me, the manager should be visible, a lot of the time, be identified, and perhaps even approach the customers; and see if they are having a pleasant visit to his or her store. Their name ought to be printed on the receipt, and there ought to be a big "Thank you" also, since many cashiers, nowadays, don't know how to say those two words.
Like I said, this is my second letter to your company, regrettably, and you still have a lot of work to do, since I never see the same person working there, from week to week, and this morning, no manager was anywhere in sight. You may contact me, if you wish: [protected]. Thank you for your time.
Signed: Peter J. Jez
Desired outcome: A 100% improvement in the general operation of the Westfield store.
