Hello,
Your store policy to ask alcohol purchasing customers for an ID is not backed by NC state law. Yes, if there is a question of age please request for ID, the obvious age customers it makes no sense to require an ID.
The store on Hwy 158 West of Roanoke Rapids NC which recently open needs attention in this manner. Plus they have sold frozen beer and refused my request for an exchange. $1.85 is no big deal but who wanted a frozen beer, and why not exchange it?
The employees at that location need training, their ignorance is not their fault. However, I will not patronize that location until this is addressed. If I don't hear from you soon I shall post this complaint in the local newspaper, and the NC alcohol commission so don't blow me off, I'm sure others share my concerns.
This is a simple fix, if there is a question of age to purchase alcohol ask for an ID, just like the NC ABC stores.
Regretfully,
Leon Martin

Desired outcome: Stop asking for ID unless there is a question on ones age.

Dollar General and any other store are allowed to have policies on alcohol purchases that exceed federal, state, and, local law enforcement requirements. Technically Dollar General can unilaterally decide that, even though the drinking age in their area is 21, they will raise the selling age of their sells to 35 and choose to only sell on Wednesday between 3pm and 5pm.
