On Sunday, 01/29/2023, I was in Dollar Tree located at 555 Larkfield Road, East Northport. I purchased a package of Craisins dried cranberries among other items. According to the website tax. ny.gov dried fruit including Craisins are exempt from sales tax. When I questioned both Robert (Manager) and Jason (Cashier) about the sales tax on food items, they were very rude and kept saying “take it up with Corporate” which I intend to do. I will also be notifying NYS in case this is a case of intentional fraud. I’m not sure whether this is an honest mistake or if their intention is to defraud but, in any event, an investigation into their business practices should be launched. I don’t know if there are other tax exempt items that they are taxing.
Desired outcome: Refund of sales tax paid and restitution for aggravation caused by incompetent Manager and Cashier. Also computer/cash register systems need to be updated to remove sales tax from tax exempt products.
Dollar Tree - cashier/customer service
On 9/2/19 I visited store #4667. The associate who rung up my order was Valerie. I placed my shopping basket on the register to separate the items that I wanted to purchase from the customers behind me. Valerie told me to empty the basket, which no other cashier at this location has ever requested (including Valerie until today). I asked Valerie why - she said it was required so she could separate the items in my order. This policy is not posted anywhere at the register or in the store. I asked Valerie about this as well - she said it was not a policy. She said it was a courtesy (to whom?). I said that it should be posted as a courtesy to the customers. She told me that it doesn't matter. It certainly DOES matter - as I explained to Valerie. I am a customer, not an employee. If Valerie had not been paying attention, the order for the customer behind me would have been rung up along with mine. I fail to see the COURTESY that Valerie mentioned. Also, I tried calling Dollar Customer Service at [protected]. I have been on hold for nearly forty minutes.
Lol it is courtesy for everyone & speeds up the process of the trasaction as well. Why are you so lazy that you cant empty out your basket? You have enough time dont you? & than you try & argue with the cashier about this lol Im sure you sounded as dumb as you looked standing there holding up thr line. Why does it have to be a policy to be considerate?
