On Saturday, Dec 4, 2020 I was at the Aston, Pennsylvania Dollar Tree. There were 5 people in line including myself... There was no cashier at the register. I stepped over to see a store employee and said "is there anyone to ring up customers". He was a tall, thin man.. And his reply back was "i'm working on it". He proceeded to come to the register and another employee opened another line as well. As soon as he began ringing up the customer in front of me he answered the phone.. He was talking on the phone the entire time he rang up the customer... No words were spoken to her... He just continued talking on the phone.. To whomever he was speaking to he was stating how he had not been able to reach him and possibly had a bad number and was telling whoever was on the phone that he needed a good phone number etc etc... He was still talking when it was time to ring up my stuff... I use ebt for food items but was unsure if dollar tree accepted it... So I was trying to get his attention to ask him before he rang up all of my stuff... So I interrupted his phone call and said "sir do you take ebt/snap?" and I also said to him that he should not be talking on the phone while ringing up customers... At some point I can't recall.. But he hung up with whomever he was talking to and immediately raised his voice saying "this was a very important phone call". I said to him that he should not have even answered the phone to begin with if he was ringing customers... How would you have even have known it was an important call if you had not answered it. And you should have called him back if you have customers... He began screaming at me telling me "I am the store manager and I will not be spoken to in that way!" I said "in what way... I simply said you should be helping the customers I front of you. He was yelling and saying to me"you owe me an apology and I dont even have to ring your stuff up if I dont want to. I over and over again repeated "sir please ring my stuff up. Please ring my stuff up. Please ring my stuff up". He was saying "you're a rude person and I don't have to do anything... You need to apologize". "my employees will back me up as to how rude you have been. I am the manager." he started to scare me with how loud he was screaming at me... Saying all sorts of stuff so I dialed 911 as I was afraid he was going to reach over the counter and do something to me. On the phone to 911 I explained how he was screaming at me and while doing so he was screaming even louder once I told 911 I was afraid to give them my name for fear he would find me and do something so 911 said the police would meet me outside by my car. Well the police called me back while I was outside. I explained to him that the manager was now outside pacing back in forth smoking a cigarette, the police officer said to me that his name was john and that they were very familiar with him. I asked if someone else had the same problem and the police officer said "lets just say we have had issues with him in the past.' The officer told me to contact the corporate office at Dollar Tree and find any and all me to tell people about it. I work in retail myself, a manager as well, and we would are not to answer the phone while ringing up customers or we place them on hold. In general a customer should not have to wait with no cashier and should be able to say things to an employee without being chewed out and screamed at to the point that you are I fear of being hurt. As long as this man works for dollar tree I will never purchase from them again!
