Be empathetic and supportive instead of being dismissive or too sarcastic. Express appreciation for the frustration instead of one getting defensive on the issue: ‘Ah man, that thing is nonsense’ while the other triggers the straightforward and proactive approach, ‘Have you called the repair guy?. This method makes it easier to combine efforts at coming up with a solution to the problem.
LOL, Wife- "The ice machines not working"
Husband- "Chill out"
i used this with my wife today, she said “thank you, you’re actually on my side for the first time ”. so thank you sir, total game changer! been doing it wrong for 10 plus years… amazing…
Wife: 'The ice machine's not working!"
Me: "Then go rage against the machine!"
That last line is gold
‘You want me to have ice shipped in from alaska princess’
I’d definitely go for the ‘You want me to have ice shipped over from Alaska, princess’ response.
“The ice machine is not working!”
“What is this a McDonald’s?”
The absolute best response imaginable comes at the very end: "Do you want me to have ice shipped in from Alaska, princess?"
I did this the other day and it worked a treat. My husband is one angry dude when he gets going
I really liked the: Do you want me to have ice shipped in from Alaska princess version.
I'm 100% sure Jocko broke the Ice Machine
Wife: "The ice machine is not working."
Man: "That thing is junk. Have you called the repair guy?"
Wife: "Why should I call the repair guy? Why can't you just fix it?"
These are pretty good ideas! Another alternative that would deescalate things is “Why are you [censored]ing about the ice machine when you haven’t even finished cooking dinner yet?” Since you both wanna eat, you’re on the same team!
The punchline: "Well okay. You want me to have ice shipped in from Alaska, Princess?!"
I'd go with the "do you want ice shipped to us from Alaska Princess?"
"Have you called the repair guy?" Nah mate, that's NOT the thing to say (and by the way, she's not just upset about the ice machine)
Don't ask her if she called the repair guy, just say that you will. I usually don't make it past calm down, though.
"want ice shipped in from Alaska Princess?" Is the best response :)
Wife: Ice machine is not working
Jocko: Good.
