We bought 13 windows that were the 4000 Series with Low E & Argon from Window World in Davenport IA on November 2008. We have had nothing but problems since. We spent $4735.94 on windows that were to save us money, not cost us more. Since day one we have had issues with condensation on the inside glass which has caused mold and the paint to peel away from the frame. We have contacted Window World too many times with this issue. They have replaced the windows 3 times now with the same ### window. This was to correct the issue per the manager at the Davenport location. We have also had an appointment with the higher up bosses from their home office to come to our home and inspect the issue, only to have the appointment canceled. Now the company says the condensation is from us having too much humidtiy in the house and yes they did come out and test for this only for it to have 30 upstairs and 37 down stairs. These numbers say we have low humidity in the house, not too much. Since then the company will not return any calls and I'm stuck with ### windows that cause mold in our house. How can a company get away with selling windows that have "Enery Star" logo on them and be so ###?

Im not a customer or a salesman for empire. next time you go out to eat ask the waitress for a breakdown on the cost of your steak, raw meat cost, cost of labor to prepare it, cost of keeping it in the fridge waiting for you to show up. give me a break! bunch homeowners crying over nothing.

I am a window and door contractor in the boston area, you bought $189 windows, and thats what you get for $189 as far as the energy star label, it is probrably meets the bare requirements. ATTENTION Homeowners. To get the best window and installation for your money, you need to hire a small local company, that has been in business at least 10 years. You should be paying between $500-700 per window, and you will get great service. I say this to anyone in the country.
There are other companys that will tell you they have the cadilac of windows for $1400 each, but if you go that root, you will be just overpaying. except they will offer you a 20% discount if they can put a sign outside.
There is no such thing as $189 window, sooner or later it will cost you more.

If you'll notice they didn't buy the $189.00 window. They bought the upgraded windows with argon and Low E. I wonder if you guys even read the post before slamming these people. That's around $365.00/ window. I would expect much more then this as well.

As a contractor and a previous window manufactures representative, what they are telling you is true. If the moisture was between the glass than you would have a valid argument, however since the condensation is on the inside of the home, it is condensation trying to leave the home and cannot get out due to the windows having a tight install. I strongly recommend that you get a dehumidifier and let it run for a while. This problem should disappear.

You say 37 percent humidity in your home is not too high. That is only true if the outside temp is relatively high. 37 percent is WAY to high when outside temps are well below freezing. I'm guessing that is the case, so I'm gonna have to go with Window World on this one -- even though, as a competitor, I really have little respect for their business model.

You are having problems with your heater, its not a window problem. You don't state if you had problems before, and may not have had problems, but when you put windows that are tighter, the air flow around the windows STOPS. Your old windows most likely leaked badly, and that is why you may not have had condensation on the old crappy windows. Quit crying and get a dehumidifier and run it as long as you have your crappy heater running.
