RE: THE INVISIBLE COMPANY: Yardworks
Mr. Kuntze made the statement that "the Yardworks company seems to like being invisible". If you do a little digging you will discover that in the Trade Marks Journal of the Government of Canada, volume 47, number 2401 dated November 1st, 2000, the trade-mark "Yardworks Canada" was registered (registration number 873, 954) to the Canadian Tire Corporation Limited, 2180 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario M4P 2V8. Interestingly enough, the trademark application was made on April 1, 1998. April Fool's, anyone?

Bought a tree pruning saw- brought it home, cut off about three branches and small ones at that- it fell apart, repaired it myself [7miles to Can Tire and no service there anyway]- back to work and it fell apart again in a different place- all this in the space of 2 hrs.- Will have to fix it again myself as the store has only 16 yr kids and the odd bored housewife working there- no real technical talent [I hold a couple of valid journeyman trades tickets and have a more than full shop]. The problem is that over and above the 50 bucks it cost me to buy it, there is the issue of my wasted bloody time running back and forth to the store to exchange it [it was the only one there as it was] or get my money back and go elsewhere. What I really should do is send them an invoice for my wasted time! Do we as consumers not have the right to have a reasonable expectation that whatever goods we buy are going to work in a reasonable fashion when they are new out of the box or has our service ethic gone out the window!

I purchased a ratchet pruner 2004, with a LifeTime warranty written on the packaging, and had kept the bill, had problem with it, brought it back to Canadian Tire,
they said as of last yr. they do not have that style of ratchet, and do not cover the warranty, even thou they still carry Yard Works Ratchets, and said to call
Yard Works, about it ... yah right there is no phone number for them. Very disappointed in the product. does anyone have any suggestions for me.

Donna,

I found a phone number for Yardworks Canada, the toll free number is [protected]. I have yet to call them to see how the service will be...(yes...it does seem like a ghost corporation Mac. People should be made known that this is infact just a fancy title for Canadian Tire's own brand and not another company. I nice way to distance themselves it would seem.)

Thank you for that number. It worked. I was having a heck of a time finding contact information for Yardworks. I guess you can order lawn mower parts from [protected] as well.

I purchased a 20" Electric Snow thrower from Canadian Tire on December 04, 2007. The first piece of ice I encountered, when the machine was 13 months old, broke the plastic impeller. The machine was taken to the local warranty repair centre, B B Service & Repair in Ottawa, for it to be replaced. Almost 1 year to the day I hit another piece of ice and the impeller broke again in the same place. I contacted Yardworks and the answer I got was, tough, the impeller is only warranted for 90 days so you will have to buy a new one yourself. They have absolutely no goodwill policy for recurring failures to inferior parts like this. I will never purchase another Yardworks product again.

I purchased a Yardworks Garden Card way back in fall of 2007, after I assembled it spending fours hours - one of the tires did not inflate. It yardworks customer support [protected]) atleast 5 times and they kept saying that they will send it for 2-1/2 years now and now they say they can't support it...sigh! I should never step into Canadian Tire if I value my money.

I purchased a Yardworks 24V Cordless Lawnmower in 2007. I just tried charging it for 3 days now and nothing...no joy. I called the [protected] number and was told (after being on hold for 20+ minutes) to contact the service shop in my area. After doing so I was smartly infomed that I would need a new charger as well as 2 new batteries. That's 75 bucks for each battery and 25 for the charger...total $175. Also, I was told that I could expect to pay that every 2 years. I paid $300 for it new from Canadian Trash. My wife and I bought it because we wanted to become eco-friendly with our lawn gear. I have had gas mowers last me 10 years plus. This cordless one from Yardworks barely lasted 2 1/2 summers. We are being ripped by companies who guilt you into buying "Green" product only to find that it will hit the landfill long before the old reliable gas operated gear. Yardworks will never see my money again.

We bought a Yard Works lawn mower from Canadain tire which said on the box to buy the rear bag grass collector separately. We tried to find it on store and there was none in the store or even within the city (Calgary). The persons who are supposed to [censor]-ist you are so inconsiderate that they will not even stand near you to answer your questions or help you out. Hope I will get the "rear-bag" soon.

I agree with Mroots. The EXACT same thing happen to me. Bought in 2007 / hold for 20 mins and they recommended service shops. Service shops have replacement batteries - but NEW ones cost almost as much as the mower and only have a 30 day warranty b/c they don't come with the entire unit. This has to be one of the worst companies ever and is, in my opion, in no way a 'green' alternative.

All of u guys r right about yardworks. i just bought a lawn mower and after my first run its ruin my lawn and with my little yard its stop 5 time so i have to reset it and try againg and again but its seem its not cutting the grass rather its pressing the grass to the ground and when i move the wheel up or down same thing happening. i take it to return but they says that after first use they cannot return it i try to get a bigger one which have power in it but they refuse to do so and its only 4 or 5 days. i never ever go to canadian tire again even it the thing i want is free there. they r steeling from canadian.

Bought Yardworks Maul...Used it to cut one cord of wood..then the plastic core that holds the head on - fell out...the maul is now useless and there does not seem to be any way to repair it...the maul worked great until the plastic fell out...they could have spent 50 cents more and made a useful tool...cheap product...the old axes I have are still working after 50 years...crappy tire is the old slogan - i guess it still is...

I bought a self-propelled mower in 2007 at Canadian Tire. Last year the transmission belt broke and I also had to find a replacement part, a spring that ensures tension on the belt, a 5$ part. What a nightmare! Those machines are really made of parts from a company called MTD that compose many other popular brands (Sears Yard Man, etc.). On MTD web site, no way to find information using my machine model number and serial number...my local shop has a hard time getting that part as well.

I really miss my previous Mower, a Lawn Boy. Much less complicated to shop for parts!

Live in Ohio - Just bought a Yardworks 14' Tree Pruner w/Limb Saw #265-6010... from Menards - YES, Made in CHINA>. Pkg says "Filetime Warranty" but NO Phone Number, Address, or Website on Pkg. Pruner would NOT operate properly when first opened. Hinge Bolt for cutting blade was Way Too Tight. Got my tools out, losened Bolt and Oiled all moving parts. Hinge mechanism ( Rope & 2 CHEAP plastic pulleys ) still BINDS after pulling rope, and seldom retracts to Start position after cutting a small branch. After 4th small branch, the Hinge SPRING came OUT of the pin on the lever. Back to the tools to Disassemble, put spring back where it belongs and Reassemble. Guess WHY the Spring came out of it's Pin. The manufacturer Cut one leg of the Spring TOO SHORT - it comes OUT Very Easily - AGAIN.
I'm taking this back to Menards today, and if they won't REFUND my money, I'll NEVER shop there again.

Lachute, Qc. I have a Yardworks 6.5 tonne electric splitter [protected]). Purchased at Canadian Tire . This is my second one, the first broke after one use. Yardworks instructed me to go to a repair depot in my area "DIXIE TOOLS', they were unable to repair it, as the defective switch is no longer available. Yardworks provided me with a return number to bring to Canadian Tire. Canadian Tire replaced the machine immediately. One year later, the same problem! This time, Yardworks said there is nothing that can be done, as I am now outside the warantee period. This a Yardworks problem, the switch is defective at time of purchase, they will not accept responsibility.Although the splitter is only one year old. They will not consider the NEW out of the box machine as being new. I now have a 600$ piece of junk. What would be a recourse for me? ross2287@hotmail.com

Last fall I purchased a Yardworks Cordless Compact Lawn Mower and turned it on and it worked for about one minute. I charged it and it has not worked since. It has never gotten a charge of more than two green lights.
I have called your company on numerous occasions over the past several months [protected]. I even took the lawn mower to your Oakville location, 2512 Bristol Circle, only to find the site closed.
Over the phone I was told to have the battery checked at Canadian Tire. Canadian Tire did a voltage test on the charger and found the charger doesn’t work. I don’t know about the battery but enclosed is my receipt and the report from Canadian Tire which I had them printout showing that the charger does not work.

We purchases a Yardworks self dumping wheelbarrow in 2005 and the sticker that came on it said a Lifetime warranty ... which we now find out was only for 5 years. If that was how long the warranty was going to be, then why not put that. The tires go flat constantly and now one won't hold any air.

I have the grass trimmer and the hedger trimmer, both of which I used fairly frequently from May to Oct of 2011, I break out the Lithium ion battery this year to charge it and nothing, the charger doesn't even recognize that there is a battery in the cradle. If CT thinks I am going to spend 120$ to buy another battery, they are dreaming. I could buy an entire electric grass trimmer unit for 100$. I'll never buy Yardworks ever again.

We have several yardworks products. We decided to buy a sprinkler for the garden and purchased the most expensive one hoping it would last longer than the cheaper versions. We are now on sprinkler #3 in as many weeks. The first one stopped oscillating after an hour. We took it back and of course, no other like model in stock. We exchanged it for the mid-priced one. Same thing. Lasted a couple of hours. Back we go. Again, could not exchange it, none in stock. We took the cheapest one. Worked great! For a day. That's it for us and Yardworks.

We have several Yardworks products, including a riding mower. We decided to buy a sprinkler and bought the most expensive one from Yardworks. It started out great...then an hour later, stopped oscillating. We returned it and of course no stock on that model, so we bought the mid=priced model. It lasted for a total of 2 hours. Same problem. Again, we returned it. Again, no stock on that model. We took the cheapest one. It lasted longer than the other 2. A total of about 2 days, then the same thing.
That's it for yardworks and us.

I wish I had read all these insightful comments before I bought a Yardworks product. I was suspicious when Canadian Tire gave me a sheet of paper as I walked out the door (after I had paid for it) that basically says once the box has been opened, the warranty is no longer covered by Canadian Tire, only by the manufacturer. I have been looking for a Yardworks website, which seems not to exist, making me more suspcious and that's how I ended up here. I really wanted to find out where the closest warranty repair shop is to my home before I opened the box. Never did find that information. Thanks to you all for posting these comments. I have not opened the box and will return the product immediately.

Purchased a Yardworks electric mower. used for one brief Calgary season cutting a 20 x20 foot inner city lawn. so perhaps four to five cuts. End of season it began to bog and die under no load. No receipt kept so Canuckistan Tire refuses to discuss. New Crappy tire policy is send this Chinese junk back to the Mfg if you can find them. Had theneighbour
take it apart and he says the brushes are shot after four cuts and they are poorly made to begin with. Will see if we can find brushes that will fit. Motor is a bit of rubbish as well. I would steer clear of Canadan Tire for anything like this pay a bit more and go with a recognized manufacturer. Chinese can be well made or utter crap. CT needs a nationwide boycott but we are to tinid to tell them to pound sand.

Yard works IS Canadian tire. Look iit up in a corporate registry. The company hides behind this shell to feign helplessness when inevitably customers come back with products that are essentially shoddy imports from hong kong. Take the cordless mower for example. The product was discontinued after buyers complained the 300 dollar batteries were failing through no fault of their own. Rather than admit it sold garbage, Canadian tire "redesigned" the POS, and continues to deny culpability to its customers. I'm done with this once significant retailer. They've lost my business for good.

I have a Yardworks 4 ton log splitter. Worked fine the first time I used it - split several elm logs from our property. Went to start it up next spring and nothing - except a blown circuit breaker. Yardworks contact said nothing could be done without a sales receipt. Took it to an electric motor repair shop locally - they replaced a capacitor for $60. Took it home, split two logs and blew the capacitor again. Another trip to the shop - only $46 this time - split one small log and blew the third capacitor. There is something seriously wrong with this machine - won't even split a 4" log without blowing a capacitor. Now I have a very heavy and very expensive boat anchor.

wow. I am suprised to be caught in such a large fish loop here.
bought a simple electric mower. trusted the store name copr "Canadian Tire' to sell decent material. I couldn't even cut my lawn due to the way they made teh level groves- as the mower vibrates on normal grass - it instantly slides to 'beeny cut ' level.
burning the grass instantly all the time after 1 and a half steps.
so annoying.
they designed the fingers where the level switch sits too short.
of course reading here, i see why CAnadian tire refuses to support their customers... they own this side company that I guess supposedly makes these 'Fisher Price' -like mowers. and sells them for 150.00 - now any lower income people will buy them, have instant problems with them, and then be stolen a 150.00- well or the long option of waiting yet another 4 weeks. lol they say to get your mower looked at and we-designed properly. lol what a loop. disguising to see Canadian Tire go so low these days to choose money over human respect and customer care. barf. so appointed and robed. -Bonnie in Winnipeg.

Bought a Yardworks 4 in one Electric mower . Worked well while it did, about 3 seasons. turns out that key drive components are made of cheap plastic that have worn out to the point of melting. I phoned the contact number in the manual the customer service rep was very nice and what parts that were available were inexpensive, key components are no longer available. I paid $300 +tax for what is now essentially junk. Not pleased at all. Wish i had just bought a 20 year old Lawnboy off Kajiji instead it would still be running after im dead and gone.

Bought a yardworks 4 in 1 electric lawn maintenance machine about four years ago, worked for two seasons then the mirror started smoking, haven't been able to get support for it at all.really think that Canadian tire should step up and take responsibility for there products .seems that everyone who buys yardworks product breaks down and Canadian tire just turns a blind eye to the customer. Wounder what would happen if we all banded together and started a law suit against them if they would change there mind and start helping there customers.

Bought a yardworks cordless trimmer, worked for one summer with very light use. Next year it just had no power to cut the grass even though the battery seemed to charge okay. Phoned the help line and the lady said she would send me a new battery as she said sometimes in the store they have sat too long and don't work. Got the battery, charged it up and same thing, nothing happened. What a waste of money as I hate just throwing stuff like this in the garbage but no one seems to want to look at it. Phoned the guy that actually works on stuff like this and he said it wasn't worth it for him to look at it. He advised me to throw it and buy something else!
