Zager Guitars: Delivering on Promises and More - A Review
I don't usually write reviews, but I gotta say, Zager Guitars is the real deal. I've been battling cancer for two years now, and the chemo treatments have left me with some pretty bad neuropathy in my hands and feet. Playing my banjo and guitar was out of the question, until I found Jamie Andreas' "Principles of Correct Practice for Guitar" online lessons. Her method is all about rigorous training to achieve proper form for playing any style of guitar. I was making slow progress with my Whitebook dreadnaught guitar when a friend recommended Zager.
I was skeptical at first, but I spent a lot of time on their website reading all the promo stuff and reviews, and looking at all the photos. The "Easy Play" moniker and all the talk about playability, string spacing, low-profile neck design, low action, etc. caught my attention, so I decided to take a chance and order the ZAD900CE model. I was relying on their money-back, shipping paid guarantee to ease my buying fears. ("Buy a $2,000+ guitar without even holding and playing it? Are you kidding me?")
To my surprise, the box arrived in just a few days, much quicker than I expected. The guitar was well protected in its case and outer box, and when I opened the case, I was blown away. It's every bit as beautiful as it looked on the website. I expected minor flaws in the inlays, finish, and other details, compared to the expensive guitars I've played and owned, but the craftsmanship is virtually flawless.
I immediately felt comfortable with the neck and action, and I really love the satin finish on the neck. And the volume and tone? Holy cow, this thing is loud! The tone is bright and round, and I love it.
In conclusion, Zager makes a lot of big promises, and they deliver on them and then some. I'm thrilled with this guitar!
Zager Guitars: A Surprising Find That Outperforms High-End Brands
I ain't no guitar expert, but I was on the hunt for a new guitar that I could call my own. I stumbled upon Zager Guitars from Nebraska and I was curious about their playability. I've always wanted a Martin or Taylor, but their site caught my eye and they offered a free trial with free shipping both ways. I had nothing to lose, so I gave it a shot.
Their customer service was top-notch, better than any other product I've ever bought. They even challenged me to take it anywhere to compare and if I didn't like it, I could return it at their cost. That's some confidence right there.
So I took it to a big national guitar store and compared it to a high-end Taylor and Martin. I had three guitarists play them all, including the salesman who was an incredible guitarist. He played the others and then the Zager. He paused and looked it over. He honestly told me, "We don't sell anything in the store this good. You don't need anything else. MAYBE the highest end Taylor or Martin might compete with it, I'm not sure but you would pay a lot more. This is the best guitar I have played in a long time. Take it home, keep it, and cherish it."
The other two guitarists in the store were customers and agreed it was an excellent guitar. I was sold. Zager gave me what I was looking for and more. I feel like they'll be with me for life. If you're in the market for a guitar, give Zager a chance. Thanks Dennis and Dennis Jr.!
Zager 900 CE Review: A Pleasant Surprise That Blew Me Away!
I gotta say, I was not expecting this... HOLY COW!
So, I spent like a whole month or something checking out all these different guitars before I finally decided to go with the Zager 900 CE. I looked at the Gibson Song Writer, the Martin D-28, and a bunch of Taylor Acoustic guitars like the 614, 814, and some Taylor Builders Editions. They all seemed pretty cool, but I kept coming back to the Zager. The only thing was, I didn't see a whole lot of Zager guitars on the sites I was checking out. I looked on Ebay and Reverb, but there weren't that many used Zagers for sale. But I did my research, man. I spent a lot of time on the internet trying to learn everything I could about these guitars. And I gotta say, they all have their good points. Maybe someday I'll have one of each. But for now, I'm retired and over 65, so I decided to go with my gut and my head and get the ZAD900 CE. And let me tell you, when I opened that case, I was blown away.
I mean, I wasn't expecting it to be so nice. The sunburst coloring and the binding just set it off perfectly. And then I checked out the AURA system and started playing it. Everything was in tune and the action was perfect. I wanted to wipe it down and put it up on the wall in the living room, but the wife wasn't having it. So I put it on a stand instead, and I couldn't stop looking at it. But then I picked it up and started playing, and I didn't put it down for like 5 hours.
It's just so smooth to play, you know? And the neck is really fast. I did have some trouble barring some chords, but I've had some pretty bad nerve damage in my neck and hands over the years. But I figured out how to adjust my hand placement on the frets, and now I can play just fine. I play it every day, man. I can't put it down. I'm so happy I got this guitar, and I'm glad I took the time to really look into it. If you're thinking about getting a Zager guitar, you should definitely check them out. You might be surprised at how awesome they are.

Zager Guitar Review: A Game-Changer for Beginners!
I never seen or touched a Zager guitar before, so I was a bit nervous when I hit that purchase button. But let me tell you, I am so happy that I did! If I had the money, I would buy another one in a heartbeat. You can never have too many guitars, right?
Now, let's get into the details. I'm only 5'2" on a good day, and I used the helpful videos on Zager's website to select the OM model. It fits me perfectly! I've played the piano, fiddle, and mandolin for years, but I'm a beginner guitar student. I was about to give up because I was so frustrated. I was using my siblings' dreadnoughts, but they were too big for me and not set up for beginners. I thought I was hopeless. My fingertips were tearing up on their high actions, even with my existing callouses, and my hand and wrist were cramping up. When my teacher introduced bar chords, I nearly had a meltdown. I even bought those silicone fingertip guards because I was so desperate.
I was struggling with chords and scales, and I couldn't set up decent strumming patterns. My right hand would drift down near the saddle, and it was stiff and awkward sounding with no consistency. I thought it was because I couldn't split my concentration between the two hands. But my first lesson with my Zager was amazing! I never would have thought that a new guitar could make such a difference. I can keep up a strumming rhythm so easily and naturally, and my hand stays where it's supposed to over the sound hole. I can actually reach it! It's so much freer and more natural. And here's the best part: I'm actually happy to practice now! I'm flying through bar chords that I had already secretly determined to cheat my way out of.
The customer service at Zager is also amazing. I contacted them with a question about my invoice, and they responded almost immediately. They were incredibly kind and generous, and they went above and beyond. I'm so impressed! I've been taking my Zager guitar with me everywhere I go and telling everyone who will listen that they need one in their life.
Zager ZAD80ce Review: Exceeding Expectations with Quality and Integrity
I just gotta say, I recently got my hands on a Zager ZAD50ce guitar from zagerguitar.com and I am over the moon about it. I was originally eyeing the ZAD80ce, but it was a bit out of my budget. When I got a message from Dennis letting me know that the ZAD80ce was out of stock and my guitar wouldn't be available for shipping until next month, I was a bit bummed. But then, a week before it was supposed to ship, I got an email saying that my guitar was shipping the next day! I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself.
I've been playing guitar for about 20 years now, but I've never owned a really nice one. So, for my 70th birthday, I decided to treat myself to a Zager guitar. I've been following Zager online for years and I was convinced that it was the way to go. When my ZAD50ce arrived, I was blown away. But then, when I opened the case, I couldn't believe my eyes. There, in front of me, was a ZAD80ce! I was both excited and disappointed at the same time. I knew I should probably contact Zager and let them know about their mistake, but part of me just wanted to keep the guitar and enjoy it.
The next morning, I reluctantly composed an email to let Zager know about their mistake. But, to my surprise, Dennis quickly replied and confirmed with his dad that it was not a mistake. Sometimes, when a model is sold out, his dad will send the next model guitar up from the one ordered. Can you believe that? I was dancing around my house like a crazy person. For a 70-year-old man, that's not a pretty picture, let me tell you.
The guitar itself is absolutely beautiful. The finish is stunning, the wood is gorgeous, and the gold tuners are exceptional. When I opened the case for the first time, I was delighted to see that the top was cedar, which was exactly what I wanted. As I held it in my hands, I was awed by what I saw. The inlaid abalone around the sound hole and body caught the light in such a way that it looked like twinkling Christmas lights. And the tone? It's louder than I expected from such a thin body. Before it arrived, I was considering returning it for a dreadnought guitar because I like a full bass, but I'm keeping this one. The full sound of this guitar is considerably better than my expectations.
Let's talk about the Zager guitar case for a minute. I love the design and the added feet rests (those knobby things on the bottom and sides of the case) are on three sides so you can lay it flat or on its side or on end with protection. It's a really nice feature.
I apologize if I'm rambling or being corny, but I just can't help it. I am so happy with my Zager ZAD80ce (or ZAD50ce, depending on how you look at it). To Denny and Dennis Jr., thank you for exceeding my expectations with the upgraded model, the high quality of this instrument, and for your remarkable company integrity.
Zager Guitars: Exceptional Sound, Service, and Experience
At the age of 48, with all the craziness going on in the world, I decided to pick up my guitar again. I had a Big Baby Taylor hanging on the wall, but I rarely played it for more than a few strums. My fingers would get sore quickly, and I didn't have any calluses. So, I decided to buy an electric guitar and started exploring various online lessons and game-style apps like Yousician and Ampled. The more I played, the more I found myself gravitating back to the sound and feel of an acoustic guitar.
I started my search for the perfect guitar, one that sounded magical and played easily. I tried out a 1930's Regal Parlor for slide, then a Yamaha CSF3M, a Martin DX1, a Taylor 114ce, and even a vintage Guild D50 Bluegrass Special. While the Guild was fabulous, I thought the strings were a bit crowded for me. I kept seeing Zager Guitars pop up on my Facebook feed, so I reached out to the company and spoke with Dennis Jr. by email. He assured me that I could try their guitar at no cost to me should I choose to return it. I decided to go big and ordered the ZAG900MCE Aura N.
When the guitar arrived, I eagerly sat down to check it out and didn't put it down for over an hour. It's beautiful, sounds beautiful, and plays like butter. Even when plugged into my Fender Hot Rod amp, it sounds delicate and twinkle with light strumming, or big and bold when you dig in. I'm still a natural skeptic, so I headed to Guitar Center to try out some other guitars. I played or at least strummed the 7 best guitars on the rack, including 2 Martin, 2 Gibson, 2 Taylor, and one Breedlove. None of them sounded or felt as good as the Zager, except for a beautiful 1966 Gibson Hummingbird, which was 40% more expensive.
Throughout the experience, I've emailed several questions about the guitar, and Dennis Jr. has answered every email within minutes, even on weekends. The service has been exceptional, and I'm more impressed with Zager Guitars than any other company I've dealt with in years. I haven't started using the included lesson vault yet, but I'm excited to do so.
I've read some negative reviews about Zager Guitars, but I can't understand why people would be so negative. Maybe they don't have any skin in the game, or maybe they're just haters. But there are plenty of positive reviews like mine, which are overwhelmingly positive and complimentary of the exceptional service experience. The Zager family lets you buy and try their guitars at literally no risk, as they will pay return shipping if you decide not to keep the guitar. But I'll be keeping mine and have nothing but positive things to say so far.
Zager 900CE Review: Flawless Craftsmanship, Rich Sound, and Unbeatable Value for the Dollar
Got my Zager 900CE about a month ago and I wanted to wait till I had played this fine instrument thru several sets of strings before I wrote out my review. I got the Sunburst model and the finish and workmanship are some of the finest craftsmanship I have ever witnessed in my entire life. My Dad was a furniture maker so I have a little background in woodworking and recognize fine wood work when I see it and this instrument is flawless. The binding is in my opinion perfect as my taste lends itself to dressing but not too much noise. The binding and inlay sets the instrument off nicely without being too much bling or noisy.
The sound is rich and full across the entire fret board and the projection is very strong. The low strings ring true and are not muddy when fretted. The intonation is perfect to my ear and the string height is set just right so as to give ease in playing up the neck. Speaking of ease in playing, this guitar is as advertised the hands down easiest playing acoustic guitar I have ever held in my hands. As a matter of fact it plays so easy it took me a while to stop choking the neck so hard and thus playing out of tune. I have played acoustic guitar for over 40 years and have used my acoustics to play nearly every kind of music there is and the Zag 900 CE loves it all. From finger style to more aggressive strumming this instrument is up to the challenge.
As good as the Zag 900 CE sounds unplugged it is fantastic amped up. I honestly have never found acoustic guitar electronics to be particularly satisfying as they most always seems hollow, boomy and many times I would develop a fatigue factor which would make we want to just unplug my guitar and play without juice. The onboard Aura electronics are superb and provide a variety of settings to help one find the sound you desire. The EQ is very responsive and really is a help in contouring the sound before exploring the four settings for the overall sound of the guitar. These four setting can be played as programmed or one can use the setting pot to blend the programmed sound with the natural sound of the acoustic. This feature is just over the top in helping one find the sound which is your sound. I really find the on board tuner to be a great addition as well. This is hands down the best sounding electric acoustic guitar I have ever heard and played in person.
I have played a Taylor 510 since 2004 and paid nearly $1800. 00 for it new and this instrument would likely be much closer to $2000. 00 if bought new at today's prices. The Taylor 510 is a fine instrument and I have enjoyed it greatly over the last roughly 15 years but it is not nearly the guitar this Zager 900 CE is. I am in no way knocking my Taylor as it is a fine instrument and really only mention it to help demonstrate value for the dollar. By today's prices I likely would have only paid about $500.00 more for my Zager then I would have for a new Taylor 510 equal to the one I bought in 2004. But in terms of how well this Zager sounds, playability, craftsmanship, and quality of electronics there is little fair comparison to my Taylor. This Zager is an absolute fantastic value for the dollar spent which is an important consideration for me.
There is a great customer service staff and you can try their instruments before you commit to a final purchase. You will not be disappointed if and when you take the plunge and choose a Zager and you will marvel every time you play that you have such a fine sounding instrument for such an affordable and more than fair price.
Zager Guitars ZAD80CE Aura Review: A Dream Guitar Come True!
February 16, 2021
Hey there,
I just wanted to give a shoutout to Zager Guitars for creating my new ZAD80CE Aura guitar. I've been eyeing this guitar for over a year now and finally decided to pull the trigger. And let me tell you, it was worth it!
I'm an intermediate player and recently retired from teaching high school social studies. My wife encouraged me to order my dream guitar and I'm so glad I did. When I received it last Friday, I felt like a kid on Christmas Day. The craftsmanship and playability are top-notch. The red cedar front was a bit darker than I expected, but the Indian rosewood was spot on. Together, they produce a mellow, rich, and deep sound that I can't get enough of.
I opted for the Fishman Aura sound imaging system with the built-in tuner, which has been great for playing along with my small acoustic practice amp. The four pre-loaded images taken from my model are a nice touch and I've settled on the second image. The built-in tuner is also a nice addition and can be accessed with or without plugging in the guitar. I haven't tried alternate tunings yet, but I've read that it's possible.
The Zager website was a great resource for comparing models, reading reviews, and finding accessories like strings, picks, a capo, a humidifier, and cases. I love my Zager Pro ABS case that includes a built-in humidity gauge. The LED gauge keeps me aware of the ideal setting of 45% RH and the importance of caring for the instrument.
What sets Zager Guitars apart is the care that the Zager family and employees put into their work. I didn't talk directly with Mr. Zager, but his son Denny Jr. was very helpful and informative. I've also been watching their Youtube videos for a while now and highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a guitar or looking to learn more about caring for their instrument.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase and can't recommend Zager Guitars enough. Thanks for creating such a great guitar!

Zager Guitars Review: Amazing Quality and Customer Service
Buying a guitar online can be a bit nerve-wracking, but my experience with Zager Guitars has been nothing short of amazing. When I received my guitar, I was blown away by how beautiful it looked. The care that was taken in packing it was evident, and the included humidity monitor gave me peace of mind that the wood was well-preserved during shipping.
One thing that really stood out to me was the included instructions for setting the action. While this can be done with any adjustable neck, the fact that Zager included this information right off the bat shows that they really care about their customers and want to make sure they're happy with their purchase.
Tuning the guitar was a breeze thanks to the on-board Fishman tuner, which was precise and easy to use. After playing the guitar for five days and comparing it to others in my collection, I can confidently say that I am extremely pleased with my purchase.
I compared the Zager to some of my other guitars, including a 1976 Martin D35/12, a 1977 Ovation Adamas Carbon/Fiberglass, a 2002 Taylor 814ce, and a 2019 Taylor 717 Grand Pacific. All of these guitars are well-known and well-made, and the Zager held its own against them.
As someone who isn't a performer, I really appreciate guitars that resonate with and project acoustically to the player. The Zager gave me a taste of the Martin D35/12 bell tone/wind chime background that I love, and it has a strong base resonance similar to the Ovation and Grand Pacific. However, it doesn't have to be pushed as hard to provide it, and it has the balanced tonal qualities of both Taylors.
What really sets the Zager apart for me is the bell tone "shimmer" that it has. It's like little sparkling lights on dark water, and it adds a beautiful touch to the already big, balanced sound. The Grand Pacific may present a similar quality at higher volumes, but the Zager retains it even at modest volumes.
I also appreciated the advice from Denny about lightening up on pressure for both hands. It took some getting used to, but I can already tell that it will make a big difference in my playing. Overall, I would highly recommend Zager Guitars to anyone looking for a high-quality instrument and excellent customer service.
Zager Travel Guitar Review: Sweet Sound, Carefully Crafted, and Great Value
I gotta say, I've been playing guitar for a long time now and I thought I had all the guitars I needed. But then I got the itch for a small travel guitar, something I could take with me on the go. I did my research and stumbled upon Zager Guitars. Now, I gotta admit, I was a bit skeptical at first. I had never played a Zager guitar before and the reviews were mixed. But I decided to take a chance and boy am I glad I did.
First off, let's talk about the build. When I get a new guitar, the first thing I do is examine the build. And let me tell you, this Zager travel guitar is top-notch. The bracing is secure, the finish is even and smooth, and the fingerboard and frets are nice and smooth. The tuning machines are tight and the headstock is even. The finishing touches, like the black plastic binding and the lovely Abalone rosette, really make this guitar stand out. And the construction of the top, back, and sides are all solid mahogany. It's a beautiful and carefully crafted little guitar.
Now, let's talk about the feel. I like having a small guitar around for when I'm just noodling around on the couch or when I'm traveling. And this Zager travel guitar feels just right. It's not the smallest or the largest guitar of this type that I've played, but it's just the right size. And it came set up for easy play, especially on the lower frets. I did have the bridge adjusted just a tad to bring the higher frets and strings a bit closer together, but that's just a matter of personal preference.
And finally, let's talk about the sound. A small acoustic guitar produces a smaller sound, but that doesn't mean it's less rich or melodic. And this Zager travel guitar has a sweetness to it that I wasn't expecting. The sustain is remarkable and there's no buzz up or down the neck. And the Grover tuners really minimize the time it takes to check the tuning before playing. I primarily finger-pick, but the custom flat-pick that came with the guitar worked nicely too.
Overall, this Zager travel guitar is a sweet sounding, nicely built, and carefully crafted little guitar. It's perfect for tossing into the included HS case (which has a built-in hygrometer) and taking with you on the go. And at the price it sells for directly from Zager, it's a great value compared to other, better-known and more expensive national brands. I've played it into a decent mic and it sounds great. And when I played it with a group of hyper-critical guitar-playing friends, not a critical word was to be heard. For me, this Zager travel guitar is a keeper.

So I have to say that in all my years of buying a guitar, I have never nad such a bad customer service experience. It is almost comical. The guitar came with no anniversary gift pack. So I called and they said it would be shipped out right away. Long story short, after sending several emails, and talking to 5 different people (including the supposed head of service) Henry, still no gift pack. Each individual had a different story with three people swearing they would ship it out and send me the tracking # (which they never did) to one person telling me they were waiting on strings! It seems that they are coached to lie to the customers to placate them but do not ever follow through!
It is mind-blowing to me that anyone would run a business like this!
I have a real thing about integrity and would never recommend these people!
Shame on them!
Zager Guitars: Impressive Craftsmanship and Sound Quality with Exceptional Customer Service
I was blown away by the sound quality and the craftsmanship of this guitar. The attention to detail is impressive, and it is clear that the folks at Zager Guitars take pride in their work. The guitar arrived in perfect condition, and I was able to start playing right away. The action is low, and the neck is comfortable to play. The sound is rich and full, and it is easy to get lost in the music when playing this guitar.
One thing that I appreciate about Zager Guitars is their commitment to customer service. They are always available to answer questions and provide support. When I had a question about the guitar, I was able to get in touch with someone right away, and they were able to help me out. It is clear that they value their customers and want to make sure that they are happy with their purchase.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my Zager guitar. It is a beautiful instrument that is a joy to play. If you are a left-handed player looking for a high-quality guitar, I would definitely recommend checking out Zager Guitars. They offer a wide range of guitars to choose from, and their commitment to customer service is second to none.
14 Years Strong: My Zager Guitar Review
I gotta say, I've been playing my Zager guitar for 14 years now and it's still going strong. The tone is just so full and it projects like nobody's business. I've had a ton of acoustics over my 47 years of playing, but this one is definitely up there with the best of them.
What I really love about this guitar is how easy it is to play. It's almost as easy as a well set up electric guitar, which is really saying something. And the sound? Oh man, it's just as good as my late friend's Martin D41. I wish he was still around to play it with me.
All in all, I'd definitely recommend Zager guitars to anyone looking for a quality acoustic. It's been a real pleasure playing mine all these years.

Zager 900 Acoustic/Electric Guitar Review: A Beautiful Instrument with Top-Notch Sound and Service
So, my old lady got me the Zager 900 acoustic/electric guitar for my 70th birthday and I gotta say, it's a real beaut. I've been playing on a Martin DR for a quarter of a century and this Zager has a way deeper and richer sound. Plus, the fret/string distance is just right, making it a breeze to play. The action is top-notch and the Aura electronic package that comes with it is just amazing.
But let me tell you, the service and communication with Dennis and his crew has been out of this world. They really know how to treat a customer right. I highly recommend Zager Guitars to anyone looking for a quality instrument and top-notch customer service.
Buyer Beware: Negative Reviews of Zager Guitars on Acoustic Guitar Forum
I was looking for a new guitar and stumbled upon Zager Guitars. At first, I was impressed by their website and the positive reviews they had. However, I decided to do some more research before making a purchase.
I came across some reviews on the Acoustic Guitar Forum and was shocked by what I read. Many people were calling Zager Guitars "snake oil salesmen" and warning others to stay away. I did a Google search using "zager site:acousticguitarforum.com" and was surprised by the number of negative reviews.
It seems that many people have had bad experiences with Zager Guitars. Some have reported issues with the quality of the guitars, while others have had problems with customer service. Many people have also pointed out that the positive reviews on the Zager website seem fake, as they have far more reviews than other reputable guitar companies like Taylor or Martin.
I almost fell for the marketing tactics of Zager Guitars, but I am glad I did my research before making a purchase. I would advise others to be cautious and do their own research before buying a guitar from this company. Buyer beware!
Disappointing Experience with Zager Guitars: Defective Guitar and No Refund
I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with my experience with Zager Guitars. I ordered one of their Model 80 guitars back in April of this year, and when it arrived, it was clear that something was seriously wrong with it. I mean, it just didn't sound or feel right at all. So I took it to a buddy of mine who's a luthier, and he confirmed that the guitar was defective on multiple levels. Not good.
So I reached out to Zager to see what could be done about it. They told me to send the guitar back and promised me a refund. That was back in August, and it's now almost November... and still no refund. I've contacted them multiple times, and they keep telling me that they're working on it, but so far, nothing.
I did get an email from someone named Jamie back in August, saying that they'd cancel and refund my order immediately. But clearly, that hasn't happened. I'm not sure what's going on over there, but it's pretty frustrating. I was really excited to try out one of their guitars, but now I'm not sure I'd ever want to deal with them again.
Disappointing Experience with Zager Guitars: False Promises and Quality Issues
So I gotta say, I was pretty bummed about my experience with Zager Guitars. I had ordered the Zad900ce after texting with Dennis Jr. about what I was looking for in a guitar. As a newbie to the guitar world, I wanted something that not only sounded good, but looked good too. Dennis Jr. assured me that the guitar I would receive was serial #00013 and even sent me some photos and a video of Denny senior playing it. I was stoked to get my hands on it.
But when it arrived, it was a different guitar altogether - #[protected]. And to make matters worse, it had some serious grain runout. I was pretty disappointed and called to find out what was going on. Turns out, #00013 had some issues with the bracing and couldn't be satisfactorily repaired. They did offer to replace it with a guitar that would meet my approval, but unfortunately they were backordered. After months of waiting and reminding them, I eventually just sent it back for a refund.
To add insult to injury, I did some research and found out that Zager Guitars might not actually be made in the USA like they claim, but rather in Indonesia. That was a real bummer for me.
Overall, I was pretty let down by my experience with Zager Guitars. I had high hopes for them, but it just didn't work out.
Disappointing Experience with Zager Guitars: Faulty Electronics, Poor Customer Service, and Misleading Claims
I bought a Zager 50CE guitar from zagerguitar.com about a year ago. When it arrived, I noticed that the Fishman electronics were faulty and it was difficult to keep the guitar in tune. I contacted Zager and they sent me a new Fishman, but I decided to send the whole setup back to have them properly set up and replace their faulty work. They did pay for the return cost, which was nice, and they even sent me a whole new guitar instead of fixing the original one. I thought it was strange that they didn't send the original back, but I didn't think much of it at the time.
The second guitar arrived with a Fishman that called the "E" strings "D" strings, but I figured I could live with that. I keep all my guitars in a climate-controlled studio, so I didn't think it would be a problem. However, this last month I noticed that the neck was slowly twisting, and I went back and forth with Zager about it. They kept saying that it was my humidity problem because they use high-grade woods, and I needed to take extra special care of their high-end guitars. I was frustrated because I knew it wasn't my fault, but they wouldn't listen.
Finally, I decided to send the guitar back to them so they could see what I was talking about. It cost me $68 to ship it back to them, but I thought it was worth it to get the problem fixed. Today, I received a check for the price of the guitar MINUS the transport cost, which was disappointing. I don't understand why Zager gets such high reviews because my experience with them has been less than satisfactory. Also, I found out that the guitar is not made in Nebraska like they claim. It is only set up and finished for sale there.
By the way, when I showed my luthier (who has been in the family business for years) the Zager guitar, he asked me why I spent money on it. Of course, Zager claimed that my luthier was clueless, but I trust his opinion more than theirs.
In conclusion, I would not recommend Zager guitars to anyone. My experience with them has been frustrating and disappointing, and I don't think their guitars are worth the money.
