Letterman jacket
Son received a letterman jacket for his achievements. The company has people there doing fittings however son ended up with a jacket way to small for him can’t even wear onetime because of this. Company gives you run around now they want me to pay half of a new jacket they have people they’re doing the fitting and state all they do is throw jackets on a table and let the kids try them on
Claimed loss: Letterman jacket $150
Desired outcome: Would like to have his jacket replaced free of charge the company screwed up and why should I have to pay for another.

Class ring and customer service
This is the most incompetent company I think I have ever dealt with! I received my Clemson class ring back in October and the moment I opened the box it was obvious my ring was made incorrect and without any quality control. The stone in my ring was not set even remotely correct or secure so due to this I was forced to send my ring back to be fixed. Balfour...

Horrible customer experience with a ring that cost nearly $1,000. In less than a year the stone has fallen out twice and is apparently held in with a small bit of plasticy glue that does not stay. They can only promise to glue it back in with the plasticky glue and not to repair it correctly with a bezel holding the stone. The first time we sent it back they lost it. They then did remake the ring and sent it to us... it has the same exact problem, the stone fell out again. They're refusing to do anything other than what they've already done twice which obviously isn't working.
Desired outcome: either repair it properly or allow us to take it to an actual jeweler and have it repaired properly

Ring description. Expectations vs received
I ordered a high school class ring for my son's graduation. The stone seletion was July- Ruby. Rubies are supposed to be red. However, the stone in the ring I received is pink not red. I did call customer service but, I'm told I have to pay $50 to have the stone replaced. The Customer Service Rep suggested to switch the stone to January. He told me that stone is the most red. I strongly feel this is something I should not pay because the stone color is wrong. Again rubies are red, not pink. The stone would have to be replace regardless because, the color is incorrect. I emailed and this is the response.
" Good afternoon
Thank you for contacting us.
All our birthstones are lab created, the ruby has a pink undertone and depending on the batch it may look more pink but it will not look red even if replaced again. For a red stone a garnet would need to be picked and unfortunately a $50.00 fee would apply
Thank you"
I understand these gems are lab created. No where on the website does it mention the is a possibility or the fact that these "Ruby" has a pink under tone. Had I know that prior to ordering. I would have changed my selection. The only mention of anything about stones is that certain stones may cost extra.
"All birthstones are stimulated stones. Black Onyx, Navy Blue Sapphire, Mother of Pearl and Orange Sapphire are speciality stones and additional charges may apply".
The image of the stone when designing the ring on line shows a RED stone for July/Ruby. Not the pink.
In my opinion this Place is a Total Scam!...Purposely misleading to get extra money. Funny I have two more children that will be graduating soon. I will NEVER do business with this company again.
Desired outcome: Replaced my stone for free, not pay $50 plus reimbursed for shipping, both to be fixed and returned back to me. $14.95 + $14.95 = $29.90This ring failed to meet my expectations as a customer.
Class ring
On 10/30/2020, I mailed my 1977 class ring to Balfour to be remade. Per their instructions, I enclosed a check in the amount of $14.95 for, "shipping./handling/insurance charge". I had previously talked with a representative in their service department who advised me that the "dies" were still available and that I should ship the ring along with my personal...

On 12/6/19 we ordered this ring. We received the wrong ring on 2/21/20. Balfour acknowledged their mistake and provided a return. On 6/15/20 we received the wrong ring. Balfour acknowledged their mistake and provided a return. On 8/5/20 we received the wrong ring. Balfour acknowledged their mistake and provided a return. 3 TIMES. Each time I have included the original order which has a PICTURE of the RIGHT ring on IT! How do I get out of this crazy cycle and get the right ring? You can not speak to anyone live. Customer service is only provided through email. They claim to have a 48 hour recall but you can't leave a message as there is an auto hang up. We spent $950 last December, my son has since graduated and we still do not have a ring that was supposed to take 6-8 weeks. This is NOT Covid related! This is 3 wrong rings related!
yearbook
A page in the yearbook was not "sewn" in to the binding. I called to complain as I ordered through them directly. They said email them pictures, which I did, showing that the page had no sign of being sewn in, which I did. They then said I need to contact my children's school. They are taking absolutely no ownership of their lack of quality work of their product. Pics attached are funny because I had to crop out people for privacy.
unethical and unacceptable behavior
On 05/15/2018 I called the Towson number 301.321.4433 around 1258, to check on my son's graduation order. My son [name removed] and he is graduating from Patuxent High School. The lady who answered introduced herself as Kathy was very rude on the phone with me. Before I could finish telling her my concern, she kept cutting me off statting "well you were late with the order. You are the 4 the person who is late ordering!" Every time I tried to speak, she cut me off. I was telling her that my son's school told him that he will not be able to graduate since he doesn't have have his order. Ms. Kathy told me that "I am sure his school didn't tell him that!" The way I was talked to was not acceptable! I am a customer and had a concerned child which I was trying to resolve his issues so he could show his school that his orders were placed already. Her phone etiquettes were unacceptable and poor. A company like Balfour, very well known and had prestige, I was really disappointed to speak with an employee who can care about customers' concerns or customer service let alone not know what phone etiquette is! I pray and hope that in the future you will be more careful selecting and training your employees. I was so baffled that I really did not know what else to do to but write this complaint letter... Now, I know this complaint might not fix anything or no one might not even care and dismiss it. Still, thank you for your time.
sincerely

college graduation announcement
My graduating son ordered his college graduation announcements from Balfour. The website does not provide room for two majors to be on announcement. He manipulated his text using the ampersand between majors. We received announcents stating he was receiving a "bachelors of arts in English in Computer Science " rather than and in Computer Science. The announcement text was not centered on paper, the foil seal was raised and created rippling of paper, the announcements were printed on subpar paper, two of the announcements had the seal, but no text whatsoever, no tissue paper was included. I called Balfour to remedy the problem. They offered to give me a discount of $20 to reorder and proclaimed my son was responsible for reviewing and proof reading his order. His order clearly stated a bachelor of arts in English AND Computer Science. I would have received the announcements 3 days before graduation had I reordered. The Balfour employee stated I could send said announcements two weeks AFTER graduation. I told her I was appalled at the price they charged for subpar announcements and I was embarrassed to send them out. Nothing could be done to remedy the problem so I chose NOT to reorder or EVER do business with Balfour. I chose a company called Signature who offered to rush the order so that I would receive them in timely manner and apologized for the problem I encountered with Balfour. Signature announcents are higher quality, waived the rush shipping to accomodate my order, and I received many more items than I was receiving from Balfour. Graduation is an important time in your child's life. Don't set yourself up for disappointment by using Balfour. You have choices! Balfour has not sent his cap/gown so we could get photographs to go in announcents and graduation is 3 weeks out. Steer clear of poor quality, subpar announcents and customer service of the Balfour company.
class ring
What a JOKE! the representative was sent to a fairly small school. She was "multi-tasking" and got my daughters ring order wrong. So we talked to the company and they were in no way willing to budge to fix their mistake. They send these people to work with teenagers, most of whom have never had to be specific on ordering something, and blame the child. My daughter asked the lady more than once to make sure that the ring she chose was correct and the rep assured her it was right. Wrong! the rep wrote the order wrong by one number..Who hasnt ever messed up before? yet they blame the child and want us to pay another $75 on top of the $300 we were already out to fix it..I dont think so. Come on now! you would think you would honor your company and do the right thing. To top it off, my daughters best friend got her ring from the same company on the same day and one of her diamonds had fallen out. Geez! should have went with trusty ole walmart..At least they value their customers and honor their mistakes.
I was just subjected to the worse customer service experience. I placed on order for a college graduation ring on August 19th, which was paid in full at the time of ordering. We received an email confirmation indicating that the ring would have a slight shipping delay and to expect it within 8 weeks. I still had not seen a shipping confirmation on October 19th, so I sent an email inquiring as to the status of receipt of the ring. The response I received was that our ring would ship in time for a virtual ceremony scheduled for December 4th. I responded via email that we have a live ceremony (thinking we were talking about the graduation ceremony) and I asked why I was told 8 weeks for delivery when Balfour was going to actually take 13 or 14 weeks to ship the ring. Instead of waiting up to 48 hours for a response, I called the customer service number. I spoke with a young lady ("A") who was one of the rudest individuals I have encountered on a customer service line. She persisted in cutting me off and not letting me finish a sentence. She kept referencing information that (1) was not posted on their website during the time we were making our purchase, (2) that was not available on the university's campus as they had been closed due to COVID from March through late August when in-person classes resumed, and (3) did not acknowledge the major disconnect represented by the email confirmation that I received indicating I would get the product within 8 weeks. This did not matter to her; no doubt because she could not be bothered to listen. My favorite response from her was "why should my son get his ring before anyone else?" The ring will be shipped in time for a virtual "ring" ceremony (ah, not the graduation ceremony and not something my son has signed up for). Once again, the information about holding all rings for some virtual ring ceremony was not on their website nor a part of the purchase confirmation that I received. I also confirmed that no information was posted to the university's website either (other than ordering a ring is your responsibility, choose the company you want). This has been a hideous experience and I will not hesitate to warn others that Balfour does not provide honest or accurate communications and they simply do not care about your experience. It goes without saying that their customer service is horrid and other consumers should be warned to locate another vendor for this important purchase.
ring keeps breaking - quality junk
In 2010 I purchased an expensive flip style ring for my sons graduation. The flip broke, sent it in and repaired it. It broke again, sent it back and they replaced it. It broke a third time and they had me pick a more standard ring. We did. Didn't have it too long before the top came off. Sent it in, sent another ring. The stone fell out. Another ring, got this had it a few years and the top came off again. Sent it back and they repaired again, this time it comes back with the top stone area crooked. I am tired of this company and their lack of quality and I want my money back. Nothing should break that often. This is a big male high school ring, I have more fragile rings purchased over 25 years ago that have never broken. I have attached a pic of one of the broken scenarios.
cap and gown
I ordered my daughter a premium class ring and she was supposed to have a free cap and gown for graduation with my order. She transferred schools in her Senior Year still in the same school district so they Chose not to send me invitation information or her cap and gown. Have called them multiple times and they continued to refuse to send her cap and gown or offer me a refund. Wallace High School also contacted them and were assured they would send her cap and gown to them since it was in the same school district and here we are the night before graduation with NO CAP AND GOWN. I paid for this when I bought her senior ring and they still didn't send it nor a refund. I have 3 other children and will NEVER use Balfour not recommend them again! Very rude customer service who talk down to you and treat you like you are stupid on the phone! I paid for a service and they refuse to provide it or a refund!
cap & gown
I paid $80 for my cap and gown and I just got it today. The gown is WAY TOO BIG. It swallows me whole. My arms don't even show. It's just a complete disappointment. Balfour measured me 4 times and STILL got it wrong. NEVER USE THEM! Now, I cannot return it and cannot get it altered since it won't match my fellow graduates. Jostens does a MUCH BETTER job.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I tried to order cap and gown on line and Balfour has a monopoly and is the only place I can get a cap and gown for my daughter's graduation. The website is completely useless. The graduation page "cannot be found". They also have no place on the website to write and complain.
charges for shipping
I purchased a cap and gown on 1/15/2011 for my sons graduation for a total of $49.78 including a shipping charge of $12.00. I was hoping that the cap and gown would be shipped to my house since they wanted my home address. As time passed, I never received the cap and gown. After contacting them by email, I was told they would send the cap and gown to the school on April 21. I don't understand why I was charged a shipping charge of $12 when they never delivered the cap and gown to my house. Instead, after leaving a message, someone called me back and told me that it was a mistake on their website programmers part and that he/she should have wrote handling instead of shipping for invoice. He said every student got charged this. I don't think it's right these people charging $12.00 per student for this. These people made money off the cap/gown already. They made roughly $3000 off of these students for delivering this stuff from a city 200 miles away. I am contacting the school board and hope there can be other options for students in the future. I have attached copies of their website where it states handling fees after Feb1 and where it states about shipping charges which I thought I paid for. This isn't the only time Balfour has had problems with other customers.
no apologies ever given
Belfour rep. Mark Jacoby, did not print son's graduation invitations and did not notify anyone in person. Says he left a message on a contact phone number but no message was received. Now is too late to get others printed. Family members were notified late by phone and many have made plans for other out of town graduations, so money to rent hotel and party goods and food have been overspent. Cap and gown were cancelled and when I tried to reorder they said may not get here in time to have my son participate in the ceremony. No apologies ever given.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

“Customer satisfaction or your money back” is definitely not one of their slogans. I ordered a university ring which took 8 weeks to receive. I ring I received was not the ring shown on the receipt. You could look at the ring and tell by the darken letters what school was attended. However if you look at the ring itself, you would be able to see the lettering but it was not darken to read. I sent the ring back hoping to get a refund but was told that personal jewelry can not be refunded. They gave me the option of receiving ring back or letting them keep it. Why would I pay all that money then let them keep the ring, I am not a satisfied customer.
I paid in full and used a promo code to get my sons ring in 3 weeks. They tell me that his ring is special and would take up to 8 weeks. I paid alot of money in full to get told that i have to wait longer. That his ring was custom anddid not qualify for 3 week guaranty
I am sueing for false advertising.
Our grandson worked hard to earn his letterman jacket. it was quite disappointing. they had him try on extra large and extra, extra large. he did this as a courtesy. he has never, never worn an xxl. he told them specifically to order xl. when he picked up his jacket... it was xxl. it looks
Hideous. he will never wear it. it looks like there is a watermelon in the back. they lied and told him that it is supposed to look like that!, and that he signed the form acknowledging the size xxl. he told them xl... he was assuming they can take verbal instruction. I will take a picture when he is here, and it is comical the lie "it is supposed to look like that". they are blaming our grandson. they should listen to instructions from
The customer... not what they assume is the best fit. longview, texas
Balfour is giving me the runaround about my son's graduation announcements. 6 weeks before graduation, and I just now received information about designing the announcements. The feature to crop and position an uploaded photo does not allow sideways movement, even though there are arrows for it. Assistance is only available when I'm at work and not allowed to do personal business on the computer. When I try to contact customer service, I get routed back and forth between the main website and the local reps. I'm in this useless loop between branches of a company that is not available for its customers. They are enjoying my money though. I just want my son's announcements. They had one job...
I cannot position my son's face so it is not covered by the text box, because the sideways movement arrows don't work. They should either be available to help customers after hours, or make the design sight user friendly or actually work right. I don't like paying someone for a product I have to spend hours trying to create myself. I may never get it to work right. Grrrrrrrrr...
I ordered for my graduation announcements and they sent me blank card boards. I paid $243.73 for blank papers? Nobody is answering in their 1800 number and even in email.
Terrible company! ordered announcements on january 14 2015, as of april 13, 2015, they still have not arrived! was told in march "they could not be delivered to the school because it was the week of spring break" will be there the second week of april (they are only at the school once a month). today, my son went to pick up this order... not in yet... probably around may 2nd! contacted balfour, they will not be shipped until april 20th, 2015! unacceptable! almost 4 months (if we get them in may) to print announcements! we are sending announcements to family overseas and they graduated may 30th! do not use this company for anything other than the cap & gown! (unfortunately, you have no choice on that part).

I ordered my class ring through the school a few months ago, the remaining balance is due in a few days but I don't know how to pay it online, what do I do?
Getting your class ring us supposed to validate all the hard work a student has put forth to get to graduation. Balfour is sure to make this experience a nightmare for most. We paid 802.00 for her ring. Upgraded to white gold as she is allergic to some metals. We received the ring and it was horrible. The stone rattles, the music notes on the side are unrecognizable and the ring turned her finger green in 5 min and is a man's size ring. Have been trying to get a refund for 7 months and no one will talk to us. The manager at our local store (75 miles away) that we have been to a couple of time is never available. Never ever would I suggest this company to anyone! Rude and a bunch of crooks!
I totally agree with these comments. Balfour is a horrible company, and it unfortunately has a monopoly on class rings. My daughter tried to order her class ring at the end of her Sophomore year, around May 2014. I gave her the check for the down payment of $75.00. When she returned home, she said she could not finish her order because of some lame excuse by the rep. When I called the local rep, I was told that my daughter did not give them a check. I said she did...but I realized I was fighting an endless battle with a person that did not care about her or her order. This person then said to order the ring on line and put a stop payment on the check. I put a stop payment on the check and tried to order on line. Here is another boggle from this horrid company...her high school's emblem was not on-line. We looked everywhere...and since we could not finish the order we could not put a credit card payment in. So, I called the local rep AGAIN. I was then told that her school is not on-line...uhmmmm..."Why didn't you tell me that when I called yesterday and asked about the check...etc". This rep became EXTREMELY belligerent with me. (And here, I thought that they cared about customer service...not)
So, I order the ring on-line and provided my credit card number. This all took place before school was out for the [protected] school year.
So, now my daughter and I think the ring order is settled...Oh, but we were grossly mistaken!
Just this Saturday, August 2, 2014, I received a letter from Balfour's headquarters in Austin Tx, It stated that our credit card was declined, and if we do not provided a valid cc # and info, our order will be canceled in 10 days.
Here is another example of their terrible service...I made this call in May...I get this letter, which is dated July 22, 2014. And, the next incredible thing...the post mark on the envelope is July 29, 2014. I received it August 2, 2014...THIS IS ALREADY PAST THE 10 DAY REQUIREMENT TO CONTACT THEM BACK BEFORE THEY CANCEL THE ORDER.
During the lapse of time between May and August, Visa changed our expiration date and security code on the back. This is not our fault, it is VISA changing it because of all the scams recently...(another problem for another day)
So, because Balfour did not run my credit card when I gave it to them, they then received a "declined" when they tried to run it. How is this my fault that they sit on this order for 2 months?
So, I tried to call the rep again...the same rep I spoke to previously to place the over-the-phone order. I have been called since this Monday, August 4, 2014 (I got the letter on Saturday). No, answer. I called several times Monday and Tuesday and left several messages. Late on Monday, I emailed the local rep. I called again on Tuesday. Getting pretty mad...I called the headquarters in Texas. I get a customer service rep and explained the issue. I was told to try to call the rep again... I said'.."No, what is your next suggestion." I also told her that my daughter's ring ceremony is in October. I asked how long does it take to make the rings...she said: "8 weeks". So, I ask if this order will be canceled because it is passed the 10 days, referred to in the letter. She said it has not been canceled yet. Great..."will you cancel this order even though I didn't know there was a problem? Now I know there is a problem that I have tried to fix for several days and I can't get anyone to help? I then said..."take my new CC info now and settle the problem.: She told me that she is not allowed to take CC info over the phone. Great...another wonderful disaster!
I said, "Now, how are we going to get my daughter's ring to her in October, with an 8 week lead time, if I can't get the thing ordered?" I said that I will not try the local rep because he is not calling back. So, she said she will find out who his supervisor is and she will contact both by email before the end of the day.
Ok, now we are at the end of the day Tuesday, August 5. And, not a surprise...no phone calls or emails today from anyone today, Wednesday!
So, I called Texas again today at 4:15. I requested to speak to a supervisor...and got the same lady I spoke with yesterday. Great, I thought. No need to go thru the story again. She apologized (not sure how sincere) and tried to contact an Account Exec. But, of course, they are all gone..."They usually leave early...our day finishes at 5:00." They are in my time zone...she acted like I should know they leave early. Wow, how nice. After she said they left, I asked if I can have the AE's name and contact info. Then this CSR said, "let me check to see if she is gone." Like, she didn't really check the first time.
So, now the saga will continue tomorrow. I told this CSR that I expect this AE to call...but if she doesn't, I will be calling back.
Come on...really, if all companies worked like this, they would be out of business. But, because Balfour has a monopoly on Class rings, I'm stuck. Oh, and I looked on BBB webside... No surprise, they have not registered with the BBB. I guess I wouldn't either if I knew who poor the service was... No reason to get more complaints.
More tomorrow I guess.
