Engine
Dan Barnette owner of Barnette's Remanufactured Engines does not practice good business. He does not stand behind his work. Once he has your money he could care less about you and any concerns you may have regarding the engine. In my 30 years of service within the automotive services sector I can say without any doubt they rank near the bottom in their hostile and borderline criminal and unethical business practices. As a member of a growing former customer base that have been ripped off by Barnette's, we intend to pursue legal action against the enterprise. Do yourself a favor and run away from Barnette's Remanufactured Engines!
Paid $5000 dont even have original engine
Bought engine from them for $2300 paid $300 shipping paid mechanic $800 to pull and place new one (also about $700 in additional parts). Their engine failed in 15 miles . Had to pay mechanic $400 to pull it again pay another $300 to ship back at which point the company calls and says it will cost $1800 to fix THEIR mistake! Basically the warranty is useless they do NOT stand behind it. They tried to say the engine was rusty so it would cost $1800 more to fix it !
IN 40 years of fixing automobiles this had to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had - shoddy workmanship, unprofessional attitudes and lying about the warranty to try and leverage more money out of the customer to pay for their mistake - my advice is to stay away from this company
This company is very dishonest I would never do business with them I note complaints all over the internet about them
Product liability
Purchased an engine from Barnettes on 11/18/11 recvd engine 12/19/11 of course it was late coming. Engine installed didnt make it to 4000 miles and the head gasket blew, engine didnt overheat and that is the only reason that Barnettes didnt hassle me about the warranty and the usual BS that I have read on here. I sent my engine back to Barnettes in October 2012 and they admitted it had a defaulted head gasket in it and supposedly Barnettes reworked the cylinder heads and reassembled the engine and shipped it back to my mechanic. When the engine arrived it had a cam shaft that was too big and the cylinder head were on the wrong way and the head bolts were rusted and pitted, also the same gasket that had defaulted was put back into the engine. Present day engine burning oil again, loud lifter noises and it has almost overheated but I saved it by turning on the heat full blast while driving in 100 degree heat, so awesome huh...NOT. Joyce is a joke, so is barnettes and so is their State of the Art facility, they do not test the engines...DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!

My Honda Passport is currently sitting at the auto repair place waiting for a "new engine" thanks to Barnettes crappy engine from hell which died on me and guess what blown heads at 3, 995 miles. Yet again, Barnettes you mother ###ers at this point you owe me an engine that works and will run forever. Not to mention my money back and the hope that someday I can have faith in humanity again because thanks to you Barnettes I have none..I seriously pray, chant, dance hoot and holler one day you Barnettes will have to answer for continuing to ### people over.

Delivery - Misrepresentation
I ordered a rebuilt engine for my Ford F-150. I explained to the girl that I travel frequently, and needed an additional 15 days (which would be 45 total) to return the core. And I needed it documented on the paper work I received. I also told her I needed to be kept informed of the status / progress of the engine. When I got the paper work there was no mention of an extension. I immediately called and cancelled the order. The woman (Joyce) asked why I was cancelling and I told her. She offered to send me an email or letter with an extension. She kept her word. However, ... I got curious ... So looked up complaints on the net. I was shocked at so many ... and the variations. The Barnette's Engine web site claims state-of-the-art and CNC. --- I was curious so I google earth mapped them ... Then decided to change a business trip to route through Chesapeake and stop by. I was shocked by the appearance outside and inside. I have never seen such an unorganized dirty machine shop ... with NO modern equipment, and NO CNC machines ! I don't like being lied to, and with what I saw I believe there would be a case of theft-by-deception. But if you're looking for a five year warranty ... think about it ... they can say ANYTHING on the site, getting it honored would be another thing altogether. I am out two-weeks time, and the delay / schedule of my trip and stopping by their shop. If you are thinking of buying here, ... stop by and check them out for yourself. Glad I did.

Warranty / ripoff
I purchased an engine from Barnettes in July 2010. Without getting into all the details Ill just say that after a couple of year with nothing but problems and pretty much zero support from them, the timing chain broke. Removal of the valve cover revealed that the chain guide had been rubbing the chain, finally broke, jammed in the chain cover, and broke the chain. The engine was removed and shipped to Barnettes per their instructions in late October early Nov 2012. After several weeks with no contact fromthem I began calling them at least weekly. First Iit was they just received the engine, then it was we're in the process of tearing it down, then they were getting a parts list together. Next they start telling me my installer did not install the engine correctly and that it had been leaking collant. Funny thing is the coolant never required servicing so it must have been leaking back into itself or maybe it was making coolant... Anyway the next story I get is that the heat tabs were melted and as such my warranty was void. So why did they tear the engine apart? Hmmmm... they also refuse to send my broke engine back to me or to tell me how I can get it. I wonder if they've already sold it to their next victim. Bottom line is this. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS! And if you are a victim and want to try and get a resolution, message me or call me at [protected]. And contact the consumer protection division of the Virginia Attorney Generals Office. Maybe if they here from enough of us they will at least shut them down!

Misleading Customers / Very Dirty Shop!
I unfortionately had the "DISPLEASURE" of droping off my faulty Barnette's Remanufactured 4.7L Engine personally to Barnette's Shop and I have to say it is "By Far" the dirtiest machine shop I have ever been to! Every aspect of the shop is Filthy! It has to be breaking dozens of EPA and OSHA regulations. Also, Barnette's homepage states the following: A "STATE-OF-THE-ART" facility & We build top quality remanufactured automobile engines using high tech "Computer Numatic Control (CNC) equipment". There is no CNC equipment, the machine shop consists of only a very old manually operated boring bar and a rough looking Rottler cylinder hone, there is no CNC equipment! The assembly room is approx 12X12 with a uncovered wooden table and grease everywhere! The cleaning area consists of 2 Electric Pressure washers as far as I can see! Anyone that is considering Barnette's Engines at 1332 Truxton st. Chesapeake, Va. should at the very least ask to see pics of thier "State-Of-The-Art" shop and CNC equipment, you will NOT be impressed!
After reading the other complaints on here I am guessing my Warranty will not be honered either!

I sure wish I would have taken the time to read this before I bought one of their pieces of junk. I'm certain I could have done better with a junk yard engine. their products are junk and they will not honor their warranty. Any other customers that have suffered from this companies dishonesty that would like to join me in a class action suit, please call me at [protected].
bad engine and warranty
Where is my complaint? Did these scam artist, get it erased? Very poor craftmanship, attitude and a warranty thats hard to collect from. I didnt want another engine from them due to such poor craftmanship, I just wanted labor costs. I didnt even get an apology. I got nothing. I am furious, let this be a warning to anyone thinking of purchasing from them.

Faulty Engine
On May 26, 2011 I ordered a 1991 Infinity G20 remanufactured engine. Barnette's assured me the engine would take 2-3 weeks. It was imparitive that the engine be delivered in this time. I called many times only to have them break their promises or outright ignore my calls. They failed to deliver until July 14, 2011. The mechanic then tried installing the refurbished engine only to discover a faulty cylinder head along with other faulty parts. The engine they sent was an inferior product. I now have to spend almost the equivalent of the cost of the engine just to replace the faulty parts that they sent! I strongly suggest you purchase your engine somewhere else!

Barnettes..hoping you read this, your piece of crap engine is no longer in my vehicle, it is gone out of my life forever! Just so you know, the lifter noise, the rattling of my engine and so much more will no longer be a thorn in my side, but I do encourage anyone else dealing with these POS company think twice before you get something from Barnettes.
Hi I am pursuing a case against Barnettes engines and so far I have talked to three other complainants, only one other than I have sent in the appropriate complaint info to the investigator I have on our case, we have 3 years to do something, so lets do something! My truck is down, it will not run anymore and me sitting crying is doing nothing, I need someone else to be a pattern against Barnettes. Here is the info I have for anyone that wishes to help me and Chuck...David S. Barber Investigator with the attorney generals office in Virginia. Our case number is 912373 and the address is 900 East Main Street, Richmond, VA 23219 and his other info is phone: [protected] and dbarber@oag.state.va.us I sent in copies of everything I had to the investigator, I sent it in with signature required because I wanted to make sure they had recvd my paperwork etc...
I purchased a motor first of Jan 2013. It was finally arrived at the first of February. It was installed by a ASE Certified with over 30 years experience. It ran for 60 days and a lifter broke. I called Owen and explained. After many days of trying to reach Owen he said that he would need to ask his builders if they thought it best to remove motor and send a replacement or fix in the field. This causes an issue with metal from broken lifter being in engine and becoming a constant problem. Owen finally said he wanted to repair vehicle in the field. My mechanic told Owen the right way to fix this would be replace the motor. Under their warranty the reserve the right to decide how to handle repair. I asked Owen about the metal in the engine and he stated that it wouldn't be an issue. The Mechanic sent at Owens request a list of parts needed. Days go by and my mechanic once again called Owen to find out the ETA on parts. Owen was not in and Joyce was. She said to resend the part list. Joyce had the parts to my mechanic the next day. The work was done and upon paying 1000.00 for that repair my oil light is on and now the other side of engine has a lifter knock. I returned it to my mechanic and called Joyce. She almost immediately started blaming my mechanic for not priming engine. If this was the case the engine would not have ran for 60 days. She then wanted me to pay an additional 1800.00 to have the bad engine removed and 300.00 to ship to them so that they can figure out whats Wong and fix or replace. After reading the numerous post online of similar cases with Barnettes Engine I knew they would receive the engine and claim my mechanic was at fault. So Lets break down the cost to date
4000.00 Engine
200.00 Additional Shipping cost to get engine delivered on a truck with lift gate
3800.00 To install new motor plus other parts like water pump clutch etc.
1000.00 to fix broken lifter of which 550.00 is suppose to be refunded
9000.00 to install and motor is worthless
Future Cost
The Bad motor now needs to be removed and replaced
1600.00 To R&R Engine with replacement
400.00 To Ship engine back to Barnettes
Option 1 They man up and replace motor I pay additional 200.00 in shipping cost for return ship
Barnettes only refunds a max 550.00
that leaves me with a 2700.00 out of pocket expense just to have a working engine.
Option 2 They continue being losers and refuse to repair or replace claiming my mechanic is at fault
I now am out 3300.00 and motor is worthless.
Lucky for me I have an awesome mechanic that paid out of his pocket to have a Automotive Warranty Investigator to review vehicle and pictures of broken parts to determine the failure. Joyce claimed that both cams and lifters were brand new. According to the expert finding the lifters had been tooled.
do not fall for the same scam I did. 550.00 does not fix anything that may be wrong with their engines.
@ Mike, I am so sorry to see Barnettes up to their normal business practices, ###ing over people, just wait til you get the engine and if its like mine uses 1 quart of oil when I travel long distances, it ticks horribly and the warranty was a joke, they made my mechanic out to be a ###ing idiot, however he was/is a vocational teacher of that very same subject matter. Please contact me as soon possible..oh and see if you can get a credit back for the amount as you dont charge someone for merchandise until the merchandise is shipped, they may run asw an inquiry for that amount but it will drop off until it is shipped, these [censored] charge and go hahaha and send you nothing but empty promises!
we were given a 5 to 7 day shipment and 35 days later and no engine yet and we have already paid for it by credit card. We have asked to talk to owner and they will not put him on the phone. We keep getting one untrue story after another. and no satisfaction on when the engine will be shipped.
[protected] if you want to get together on a class action... I already have a couple of names and I had one call in mid Dec that my wife inadvertently deleted the contact info before I could call back. So please contact me again, ,
I have my engine and my truck back so I am happy now, engine seems fine, I cannot delete previous comment, so I am just gonna say that yes there was aggravation, frustrations and such but Barnettes did fire a guy because he just totally screwed up my engine, it took a lot longer than anticipated but for now I am happy and hoping that I have no more issues with my engine. Important to keep detailed records of anything that you get done to your vehicle and change the oil at 500 miles and 1000 miles and after that every 3000. Thank you Joyce for your help with this matter!
Did you know that Barnettes does not test any of the engines that go to customers...seriously they do not! I am currently getting screwed by Barnettes and am so sick about it that I cannot sleep, eat or enjoy the little things in life that made me so happy before, I am miserable now and have been for some time, with all the excuses and the lies, the blatant bull ### and the carpet my body and mind feels like when they ( Barnettes) walks all over it, this company has no integrity, no honor and they think everyone else is ripping them off. So include me in this class action suit!
I too was screwed over by Barnette's. I am trying to get a bunch of people together for a class action law suit. If interested comment and we can exchange contact information. Its time that this scam of a business gets what they deserve and as a college student I am still in debt due to them.
I wish I would have read all of the complaints against Bernette's before I purchased a very inferior engine from them. It made rattling noises from the first week it was installed, and finally gave up with a busted timing chain (the timing chain guide had been getting beat to death by the chain, it broke off jammed the chain and broke it, wrecking the motor) after less than 20 K. Their warranty? Forget about it! If there are any other recipients of Bernette's lousy work and worthless warranty that are interested in filing a class action law suit, please call me at [protected]. And if your shopping and considering a purchase? Just say no and pay a little more, or go to the junk yard and buy used. The used engine will likely be better than anything you'll get from Bernette's.
Time of completion, customer service
On May 12, 2011 I placed an order (#2704728) for a rebuilt Ford engine with Barnette's Engines. At that time I was told that engine would be completed and shipped in 10-14 days. On May 25, 2011 I called Barnette's to inquire of the status of the engine. At this time I was informed that they were waiting on more parts and that it should ship no later than May 30, and that I would receive a call when it did. As of June 1 I had received no call, so I again called Barnette's. At this point I was informed that they had built the wrong engine, that they had to start over, that the engine would ship by June 3rd, that I would receive a call when it shipped, and that they had checked with Mr. Barnette himself about rectifying the matter and he had stated that he was not going to do anything. On June 7th I had received no call from Barnette's confirming the shipment so again I called them. I was told that it was supposed to have shipped the previous day (6/6/11) and that it would for sure go out that day (6/7/11) and again that I would receive a call confirming this. No call. I again called on June 8th and found out that it still had not shipped, at which time I informed them that I was taking the matter to the BBB. This immediately got the attention of Mr. Barnette himself, who got on the phone (this call was around 10:30 am) and stated that he would use his personal truck to transport the engine to the delivery company himself. At this point I again requested that he call me to confirm when he had done so and that he put some serious thought into how he was going to make the situation right. Late that afternoon I received a call from Mr. Barnette stating that the shipping company had just picked up the engine. When I enquired about his claim that he was personally going to deliver the engine to the carrier earlier that morning he simply evaded the question and stated that he had a tracking number for me. When I enquired about what he had decided to do to resolve the situation he again avoided my question by saying "...once the engine gets to you call me and we will work it out!". The engine arrived June10th, two full weeks (over twice the quoted delivery timeframe) late. I immediately called Mr. Barnette only to be informed that he was not there. I asked that they call him on his mobile phone and give him my phone number and have him call me immediately...to this day he has not! During those two weeks Barnette's never contacted me to keep me informed of the situation, rather i did the calling. Barnette's knew that I was loosing income everyday that the engine was past the quoted delivery date, as I had scheduled work for the dates after I was to receive the engine and have it installed. To date the incompetence and lack of any degree of customer service Barnette's Engines has shown has cost me approximately $1200.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I plan to file suit against them. Anyone interested in joining in a class action, please call [protected]
Based on my experience with Barnett's... The second post was written by Joyce or one of the other people that run interference for the company. Very dishonest people! Do not believe anything they tell you and if haven't done business with them... DON"T!
I had a "somewhat" similar experience with Barnette's - in that the delivery was later than originally requested. However, I found the communication process good, and I was kept updated on the progress of my order. In my case, the delays were the result of Barnette's not being able to obtain a quality core to build on (they went through at least two before finding one that passed all of their stringent quality checks). They also had a delay when the first camshaft they received from their supplier did not meet their standards. Yes, my engine was delayed a couple weeks, but the engine they finally shipped has proven thus far to be outstanding. In fact, the shop that installed the engine had high praise for the quality. Unlike the person that filed this complaint, I did not experience a financial impact, but was only inconvenienced by not having my Jeep Wrangler 4.0 back on the road in a timely manner. In my case, the quality of the motor, the best warranty I've seen, and the lowest price mean a lot!
Warranty NOT honored by Barnette's
We purchased a remanufactured engine from Barnette's on July 7, 2010 for a 1989 Supra. With the purchase we also upgraded to Barnette's metal reinforced head gasket and stud kit since our old engine had blown a head gasket with the standard Toyota supplied parts. We wanted the best quality parts we could buy.
However in May 2011 the intake gasket provided by Barnette's with the remanufactured engine failed and when it was removed during service we saw that it was of inferior quality to the Toyota part. I called to submit a claim against the warranty and was told by Barnette's representative Steve that anything that bolts onto the engine (even though supplied by Barnette's) is not covered under the warranty. I asked him to direct me to that clause under warranty exceptions and he could not. He also stated that because we had proceeded with the repair without contacting Barnette's, we had violated the warranty.
At that point I concluded that Barnette's is not willing to honor their warranty. The claim is for 6 hours of labor (6 x $55 = $330) plus the cost of the better quality Toyota intake gasket parts ($50). Not a lot of money and we can afford to pay.
Note, this car is used for commuting only (not racing) and is carefully maintained by a seasoned mechanic at our local Toyota dealership. Failure of the Barnette's supplied intake gasket is a reflection of its quality only.
This complaint is submitted as a courtesy to other potential buyers from Barnette's. If the warranty is important to you, please factor this complaint into your purchasing decision.
Thanks, Ken
sadly joining this club barnetts is a joke.. engine ate 1 timing gear in 4k and bad noise across the head...prolly toasted... followed break in per barnetts instructions now they wont even talk to me on the phone. trying to get me to pay almost $500 in warranty shipping.. engine ran great no issues at 153k just wanted to freshen the engine as the body was solid after sending a perfectly good running engine to barnetts i now have a pile of junk.they sent in return .. would like to add i had to send them my engine becuase they couldnt find one to rebuild so they ruined a running n working engine after they worked on it and now are hiding behind their joke of a warranty . i will be looking into sueing barnetts DO NOT USE BARNETTS FROM VIRGINA ! THEY ARE RIP OFFS FRUADS AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AND THEY DO NOT HOLD UP THIER WARRANTY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. you would be better of doing the work yourself sadly

Very bad people. Dishonest! Always doing the song and dance routine. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!
They always blame the person who put the engine in the car or truck. The this company should be closed down and the people who work their placed in jail for stealing money. Barnett engine company is a company that out to take people money. Please never send your motor to this place . Take it from a person who is out of 3850 to this sorry company and 2000 to have engine placed in truck then have to take it out because it used oil. They will not honor the warranty although after reading it it is not much of a warranty.
This company will not honor their warrant. I just was told my engine over heated and it is not covered. When I got this motor back it used 2 quarts
Of oil every to weeks. They told me it was a bad install. This is not over,
I paid these Poole 3850 to fix a motor and got back
A a pill of junk. I am filing a suit on
Theses no good people.
In Oct. 2010 I purchased a rebuilt 2000 Grand Cherokee V8 engine from Barnette's. It started throwing codes for misfiring on two cylinders, and had oil in the water . Called them and then Changed coil packs and flushed the engine . Turned out to be my intake manifold for the oil, not Barnette's fault . OK but still misfiring now on three or more cylinders . Called again Low oil pressure on the right Its now Sept 2011 My mechanic was trying to diagnose why it was still misfiring and the right head blew . . Barnette's had us put it out with all the tin on and sent it to them .Once there Steve said the warranty was voided because the heat tabs started to melt. I wouldn't pay them more to fix the problem, so they sent it back to me without checking out what the problem was . Then charged me for the round trip shipping! I repaired all and it was still misfiring . replaced the cam and crank sensors . replaced the right side cam tension-er More tests the right side oil pressure is two low oil. One of the oil galley's is blocked . Mr Barnette told me that if there is oil in/on the head it is not blocked . I am almost 6000 into this repair .
Mr Barnette insulted my mechanic while questioning him on the events of the past year and got mad because the mechanic said the problem was the fault of the engine in the first place . Every question was geared to point blame on the repair or the use of the engine but not accepting that the oil line is plugged . I have no vehicle
Bottom line I didn't have a chance with this company if you believe in a warranty to protect you then I suggest you buy somewhere else . I did every thing Barnette's asked to no avail . Good luck to you if you go with them.
Thanks, Tim
Remanufactured Engine
I had a Barnette's Engine installed in my 2002 Dodge Stratus. The motor runs great. I had a certified Mechanic install my engine and could not believe the quality of the engine that I received for the price that I paid. I could not be happier with the engine. I am positive that all of my future purchases will be from Barntte's. They were a great company to deal with! A+

Engine rebuild ripoff
Engine had a bad valve on the driver side when it arrived from them. Then the head gasket on the left side failed after 100 miles. Their workmanship is poor and they don't honor their work, word, or the warranty. They don't want to talk after the sale. I do not recommend them.
