My brother was admitted to the hospital on 12.18.24. He was septic and they put him in PCU and put him on antibiotics. His health continued to decline. When we arrived to see him on 12.30.24 he had moved, and it took them 30 min to tell us where he even was.
The floor he was on only had 6 patients but his nurse who had been on duty 2 hours knew nothing about him or his status. She never stepped foot in the room in three hours even with all the questions he had. She did not know anything we asked like if he had pain meds, labs, wound care and so on. She would go check the computer and stand in the door to give us the information.
The charge nurse and the floor supervisor both also were clueless about his care or even the things that we need to personally do this care ourselves.
My niece was the one doing his wound care and changing his dressings on his drain tubes. She actually brough her work bag with her because we had a hard time getting supplies form the hospital to change and clean wounds.
We asked for test they were not doing because we knew there were issues, and they were not addressing it.
We had to ask for basic blood work to assure issues were getting addressed. I asked them yesterday (1.1.25) if they reran labs after his blood transfusion and some meds they said not the line was blocked. They never tried to unblock in the time I was there.
They were already talking about moving him to a rehab facility as he was laying there dying.
They informed us they would order and MRI but I told them they had to contact his cardiologist because he had a defibrillator, and they were surprised by that.
When they were discussing removing the NG tube for a PEG tube, I had to tell them he had a gastric sleeve.
These are things they should have known especially since the cardiologist was at St Luke and this was not his first time at this hospital.
We kept having to tell them things that should be in the chart if they were reading it.
We asked for days for patient advocate and finally got one when we told them we were taking him AMA.
We asked for them to move him to another hospital several times and they kept telling us there was not a medical need. They refused to call to move him, so the family had a private ambulance meet us at the hospital to move him. They called the police on the patient's son when he let them know we had arranged him to be moved. They tried to take out his drain tubes and the medical staff was told not touch him again the paramedics would do what needed to be done until we got him to the new location.
They had been telling us the sepsis was no longer an issue that he had taken his meds and it was gone. The minute he was put in the ambulance the parametric said he was septic from just looking at him.

He was taken to a hospital in Houston they ran more test in a few hours than St Luke did in all the time I was there with him.
At this time, they have told us he has sepsis still, his gallbladder needs to come out, but we need to get him strong enough for the surgery. The Ct showed he had a stroke when the Dr at St Luke told me it was just muscle spasms not seizers like we told him, but the new hospital said it was from a recent stroke. They said he appears to have DIC now and that is what had been causing a lot of his skin issues.
The doctor then informed us he was very sick, and he would have died where he was had we not had him moved. They said it was the best decision, and we saved his life. We do not know what the lack of care at St Luke will cause on going issues, but we at least have a chance to keep him alive now.

Desired outcome: I want everyone to know that St Luke does not care if you live or die. They go through the motions and most of them do not even sound like they have ever attended a day of nursing/medical school.
