activates malicious virus
These Cybercriminals may activate a malicious programe inside the Web browser. Then, they sell worthless anti-virus protection. I fell for it...purchased the software and nothing got better. I contacted my IT person who cleared my system of the virus ( I hope). I cancelled my credit card. The next day I opened an email from cyberdefenders on my laptop and sure enough it happened again. I was told I had a virus warning. These guys are criminal and should be prosecuted. I send an email to the FBI complaining about these bizarre business practices...contaminate and then sell .

Don't pay tech! Use this.
I purchased Cyber Defender a couple of weeks ago to replace a out of date software. First they didn't give me my activation code and I had to call for support. The Techie at the other end proceeded to tell me that my computer was so riddled with spyware, viruses, malware, etc. that it was going to cost about $300 to fix it. Whatever. I insisted until he e-mailed me the activation code. I installed and activated then turned the computer off. During re-start, I hit F8 and entered windows in safe networking mode. I ran Cyber Defender and cleaned out all of the crap and made sure to delete it while still in safe mode. Close Cyber Defender and restart normally. Voila. Took about 15 mins. This scam that preys on the non computer savvy is disgusting! When I called to complain the man on the other end just laughed and said "yeah, well at least you're happy". There has got to be an industry that regulates this or at least there should be!

Hi Jldillon,
On behalf of CyberDefender Corporation, we would like to take a moment to express both our gratitude for your business, as well as our pleasure that CyberDefender product(s) are helping ensure your computer is operating at its full potential.
While it is certainly up to each individual customer as to whether or not they would like to include Premium Technical Support with their purchase, it should be known that these packages do not limit support to CyberDefender Corporation products, rather provide universal computer support for an extremely wide variety of issues and brands. Customers can expect their Help Desk technician to go through an easy step-by-step resolution for any problem ranging from spyware and viruses to printer and network issues, to something such as setting up an iPod. Moreover, our representatives can run a complete diagnosis of a customer's computer system, identify, and purge any malware-related threats present on their computer. The idea of having a personal computer technician available by phone 7 days a week to assist in real-time with any computer issues that may arise has proven quite appealing to the thousands of clients which elect to purchase a Premium Technical Support package with CyberDefender.
It is always appreciated when customers (especially tech-savvy ones such as yourself) help spread the word on our products and how our software can help maximize your computer's efficiency. At any time, they are welcome to contact our Customer Service center toll-free at [protected], or email us at supportATcyberdefender.com.
Thank you,
CyberDefender Customer Service
Bad service
On May 24, 2910 I downloaded the trial version of CyberDefender under the impression that it would find and delete malicious viruses, you know, do something useful. After running their scan for about 8 hours it found 45 ads or cookies or similar. It found no viruses.
I called their phone number which keeps popping up on the screen (this is VERY annoying)and asked them why it not only did not remove spyware but it did not remove any viruses at all. They told me I had to purchase the program to detect and remove any malicious viruses. I asked what good is the trial version? They really just him hawed about the bush. I would have purchased their software if the trial version had detected and removed any malicious viruses but it did not. I consider their trial version worthless and they have lost a customer.

The worst antivirus software
I purchase cyberDefender after hearing a recommendations from Leo the Tech-Guy from a popular radio station. My toughts and hopes where to improve my computer's performance and after installing CyberDefender my computer only got worst. After speaking to a few computer technitians. (Bob Hatton from Marcomm Media and Joseph Advento from JBA Networks in San Diego, California) they both told me thatCyberDefender, far from being a software that will improve my computer its a virus and spyware from CyberDefender and design to steal your personal data in order for this bloodsuckers to make contact with you and persuade you to use more of their services.
My advise to all of you! Stay away from CyberDefender. Its spyware. They will not refund your money. Its a total fraud.

I have seen this virus identify Nero burning ROM as a virus, I have also seen it identify A C D and E drive on a Linux os machine and offier to clean the virus(s) that it found
Rip off - Fake virus Protector
I purchased this rip off comapany's "Registry Cleaner" and "Early Detection Center" in Spet., 2009. I got a virus and guess what? Cyberdefender wanted to charge me $149 to clean it up. I went to McAfee and the technician did a "taskmaster" and cleaned it up for nothing.
DON'T USE CYBERDEFENDER, DON'T BUY IT AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SHOULD BE LOOKING IN TO THIS FAKE OPERATING, RIP OFF CO. FOR LEGAL IMPLICATIONS AND CHARGES!
It is very difficult to get them off your computer once they...and I belive they send the virus to your computer...tell you you have a virus and the computer needs cleaning up...they won't go away. I'm sending a complaint to the Attorney, State of california and see if we can get an investigation going. I WANT MY $44.96 BACK.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
Cyber Defender is a total rip off. The customer service sucks, and they basically want a credit card on file to charge it when they want. They DID NOT explain this to me so when I noticed they were charging my credit card without authorization for the monthly fee I asked them to remove my CC number. They gladly did it but DID NOT explain that this would cancel my subscription. I assumed they would bill me, never got any notice and my subscription runs out. The very day after my subscription ran out I called to make a payment and they notified me that my subscription was canceled and I had to pay another $200.00 to renew it. REALLY? I then asked for a manager, the manager tells me when asked why did you guys not explain this to me, he says "its a little grey area we don't usually go over". WHAT? Its like they don't give a crap if their service makes you happy, they don't care if they rip you off. Never again, and I am DEF telling all my friends NOT to use them. I feel very foolish even giving them my money.
Cyberdefender used to be good but they are a real scam now. I forgot to renew and my CC had been changed so they couldnt "charge" me.. So shortky before renewal a mysterious company started calling me to warn me I was going to get an online virus.
When I try and call the number back its busy. They called me every day - sometimes 2x a day after renewal. As soon as I past renewal
they sent the virus and I was blocked from the internet. I called Cyberdefender and they charged me $199 to remove the virus and then a $49 anti - virus program. 24/7 tech support that I had before now was going to be ab additional $240 a year!
I know they sent that virus.. they are the only ones who have people call to warn it was coming.
Its stinks, they have really bad consumer reviews now. They used to be highly recomended when they were an Indian run company.
NYSE has changed everything. Stay away from them.
I purchased CD software and used it last year, then forgot about it. This year when I was charged for the automatic renewal, I called customer service to cancel the subscription and asked that my $ be refunded. The customer service agent didn't give me any grief and immediately cancelled my subscription. In addition I recieved a full refund.
My name is Marian Thompson. I too have been ripped off by this company and on hold for almost 3 hours! I want my money back for the virus scan crap that was 74 dollars and thee 199 a month for the PREMIUM service! do not buy this do not install it they are a bunch of salesmen looking for all of your money!
dont care
I went over all BlueMondays posts and in all his 21 post he defends CyberDefender and MyCleanPC and both are scam. BlueMondays is an oblivious shill.

Purchase on my debit by fraud
I signed up for a antivirus program, and later found that this company is a scam. By the time I got it off of my cumputer and request my debit and credit cards be canceled. I had this unauthorized charge to my bank account.

Same story here...they got me too, and my daughter! All I want now is my money back but tracking these theives down is easier said than done. I'll continue to investigate them and if I ever get a hit will post it for all to see. Hope others do the same. These scammers need to be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law!

Can someone tell me how to delete this program?
Same thing happened to me. I was afraid to lose my files I worked so hard so when this scary notice popped up that my computer is infected with so many different viruses. I downloaded what they offered to clean it up. I wondered why I didn't get any confirmation via E-mail & the website all of a sudden disappeared. The following morning guess what, my Enternet Explorer was wiped out & my DSL machine broke. I couldn't go on line for 1 whole week because I had to wait for the computer guy to fix my computer. I ended up paying for the company great deal of money to fix my computer because AOL, DSL and HP couldn't fix it through the phone after a whole day spent with them. I just called my bank today & the bank said this scammer charged me again in NOV. 2009 Notice they created 2 names WIDEWORLDSOFT & REALGOLDSOFT.

I to have been scammed by wideworldsoft. On Saturday, February 27th, 2010 our computer was infected and we could not do anything unless we purchased this software. It was supposed to be $49.00 for two years and they charged my card $99.85. I called my bank on Sunday, February 28th, and they are processing my claim. Now I will try to delete this program, wish me luck. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks
Kathy G.
they did the same thing to me.they even took double of what they said they charged.this is a scam all the way.I'm trying to contact my bank to see if there is anything I can do.THERE'S NOT EVEN A TRACE OF IT ON MY COMPUTER .They should be brought up on charges.
I just have been the victim of the same scam (see my complaint wideworldsoft - fake virus protection). Did any of you guys get his/her money back ? What did your banks say ? And please how did you manage to delete completely this program ? Because on my side, every time I try to delete, the delete got cancelled...
Thanks in advance and regards,
Xavier
I too have fallen victim to this internet scam. My computer locked up and popped up what looked to be a very real virus alert stating it was detecting Trojans and viruses Feb 17th. I could not leave the site without purchasing the software. I just purchased a new computer in December with Windows 7 It possibly came through my trial icon Norton Security so I believed this to be true. I recd a confirmation email from what I believed to be Norton Security after I accepted the software. Something didn't feel right because the icon was gone the next day. I checked my credit card statement online and saw the name WorldWide Soft BAKU AZ. I googled and saw two blogs of this scam going on. I immediately called my Credit Card Company and asked they refuse payment. WI Law you have 3 business days. They cancelled my card and are sending me a affidavet to fill out to file a Fraud Complaint to investigate. I called my ISP Road Runner and they are trying to track down the email that was sent to me around Feb 17th that mysteriously is gone from my inbox after the payment posted on my credit card statment.
My computer got infected by these virus and this pop up would not get into or out of my computer unless I bought this software. It was a scam it never downloaded anything and they not only took one payment out they stole 2 payments. I have filled a faud claim and a police report to try to get my money back.
CyberDefender Corporation is committed to providing first-rate Internet Security software and services, as well as quality customer satisfaction. We are interested in reconciling this matter and have initiated direct contact with Mr. Hatting . Cyber Defender is just a Bernie Madoff scam, they take your money
and don't fix anything.I reported them to the California Attorney Generals Office with tons of documentation that shows this company is just in business to rip you off.
They were once one of cNet's advertizers but even cNet caught on to them and how they were just a scam.

Plus I find it hard to believe that some antivirus company has actually WRONGED YOU! so bad that you'd actually want to assault its employees. From another one of your comments:

CyberDefender operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we have technical support staff located all over the world. SCAM and illegal practices
Cyberdefender operates by threatening and abusing customers over the phone., If you call to inquire about the product, they will end up getting your credit card (since they say they cannot answer questions w/o a valid cc) however, they assure you that it will not be used for charges. Before you know it, they sign you up for a $269 program that you dfo NOT need. Their techs barely speak English, they are at the most an entry level tech that has to be looking at books and searching the net. You can actualy hear them do that. As most Middle Eastern or Indu businessmen, they allways answer you "NO PROBLEM, SIR" I am siock of hearing that when they do not know what they are doing.
In addition, my CC ws charged multiple timers. Cyberdefender declined to reimburse my money. However, I had everything documented, contacted my CC company and they ruled in my favor and refunded my money.
More persons need to complain and send emails on a regular basis to them and to the FTC (Federal Trade Comission) in order to shut them down.
They are ripoff artists with no scruples. All they care is to take your money.
Regarding the software...BEWARE. The software is infected and it creates regular problems in order for you to contact them. Once you do that they steal information from your computer. If you should have a remote session with them, be sure to monitor it, and if you notice something that you do not trust. DISCONNECT them from your computer. They are physhing for accounts and pertinent info that can help them make more money.
For those that cannot uninstal cyberdefender. I will post a way to delete it. I forgoy how I did it since it was a long time ago. I wrote this because they have thenerves to contact me and try to sell me the product.
I do not need sucj product.
My wife was suckered into buying it. I am partner in one of the larges RMS (remote monitoring services) and we take care of over 3500 large corporations. What Cyberdefender does is illegal, it is a SCAM and they should be stoped.
They operate out of India, but their corporate HQ are based out of California.
I do know that previous versions of CyberDefender were known to the virus community as being malicious.
If you can, cancell your contract with them. It is not worth it to risk your computer.
Be aware, they are a MAJOR SCAM. If these were the 20's, they would qualify as a GANGSTER organization.
Lets all try to bring them DOWN, They do not deserve anybodys business.
Write your local DA and let them know what they are and what they are doing. If all of us do that, I am sure we will be able to terminate them.
Please, get organized and lets do everything LEGAL within our power to STOP THEM.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
I too was taken in by the Cyberdefender scams. I never had so many problems on my computer until I ordered their service. Not only did they mess up my computer royally, they "had a glitch" in their system, charged my card the first $249.oo, later charged another $50.00 which caused insufficient funds fees to come out of my account that ended up costing me $204. that I cannot afford. When contacted they only want to refund me $170.00 saying they had to charge me the one time use fee of $129.00 When I was actually supposed to be paying a yearly fee when I paid the 299.00 Yes, I was stupid, but I hope this helps someone else make the right decision and NOT subscribe to their service.
I'm not a "son" of anything, sir. Actually I'm a Christian grandmother.
Screaming obscenities and insults and threatening physical harm to perfect strangers are not the way to make an effective case proving that you were injured somehow. If you aren't satisfied with our company's products or services, you can simply call the helpline and get a refund.

We purchased the program and it has been a headache since it has been installed. We got a porno website we did not visit after being in YOU TUBE.
Trying to get their assistance is like trying to take a lollipop from a three year old child IMPOSSIBLE. They speak broken english and are extremely rude on the phone. They do not listen and tried to give you the runner-up.
I will NOT recommend this program to any human being.
killed my computer and took over 265 dollars from me
On 5/1/09 i decided to purchase cyberdefender online it cost $65.00 i then installed and ran the program then when i pressed delete detected viruses my whole computer screen turned black and i tried to reboot the laptop and all i get now is a blinking curser on the top left corner of the screen the program ate the hard drive. total scam
Started out trying to download Avast free home security program, had problems so looked for tel# for customer service. Not sure how this happened but ended up phoning Cyber Defender. Explained that my security program on notebook had expired and I just wanted to replace it
He wanted remote access to my notebook and I allowed it (I believed I was talking to Avast).
Tech told me bad virus' on notebook and I needed a program called Cyber Defender to take care of it.
He said he would download and take care of the virus, and I needed the program for future security. As he was doing this he would say things like "...and it comes with unlimited tech support" "...and it catches early scammers" etc, etc.
somewhere in there he told me it was costing me $249.99. I said ok, as I believed what he said that I needed it. Also told him my new PC was arriving that day (March 31, 2009) and he said I could have coverage for up to 3 computers for additional $50. So I bit the bullet and took that too.
When he finished, we confirmed that the price was total $299.99. I gave him my credit card info.
later that day I called again to have the same system installed on the new PC.
Within 1 day, I noticed pop ups, saying a website wanted access to my computer. Said publisher was MIcrosoft, so I clicked allow. These kept coming and I got suspicious, so I did not allow anymore. But noticed something was wrong with new PC. Did Cyber Defender scan, said all was fine.
Following day, went for hi tech help. They gave me a one time program to scan with and stayed with me
after 1 hr, learned that I was loaded with Trojans.
I copied files for hi tech. and the one time program cleaned my system. Hi tech consulted wiht other hi tech cronies and all agreed that the trojans were coming from Cyber Defernder. We were unsuccessful in uninstalling system. Finally went to Dell and they helped me restore to Factory Condition.
Call to Cyberdender met with arrogant denials, lying about how the system cost so much (they said I bought the basic and then kept adding additional systems). End result, no refund of monies paid,
Call to bank to dispute charges revealed that 3 days after purchasing the system, Cyber Defender had charged my credit card an additional $79.95.
I am so outraged, am now in the middle of disputing the charges to my credit card, have succesfully dowloaded Avast free home edition. DO NOT BUY OR INSTALL ANY THING FROM THIS COMPANY!
I am an older woman on a fixed income, and apparently really gullible. I was surely scammed!

this free download progran shows that your computer is infected this is how they get people to buy there product and they know that half of the time that there is no problem with your computeri paid 129.00 for 3 month and after they fix my computer i ran the free soft where and it fount 623 itims how is that possable i can tell you how to get you to buy there product and get your money that they know that dose not work dont buy any thing from cyber defender they wanted me to paY OVER 500.00 FOR 3 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THEM NO THANKS I COULD PAY WAY LESS THEN THAT ...
Yep, another spyware scam!
This cyber defender came to me on a yahoo button and lucky for me I checked into it before anything happen. I have also notice that another scam has come to me by way of SKYPE. If you buy any type of anti virus, be sure it is a company that you can trust in. McAfee, Norton, these are just a few. Always check on line to see what you can find out about the company.
Free anti-virus protetion scam
CyberDefender's free software protection is definately a scam. Don't download it. After it scanned my computer it said I had 43 spyware infetcions. and then wanted to charge me to remove them. It probably put them on. I think I made this same mistake a long time ago and ended up with spyware. I think it was a free offer to check for spyware, and after the so-called spyware scan I had problems that were being caused by spyware. I got Spybot, a reputabale company, to remove them.
I had been having technical problems with my security and wanted backup security, at least until I could get the problem solved. But instead I got spyware that I don't think I had. Of course, I can't prove it absolutely; So if you have been caught in the CyberDefenders trap, be sure to scan for spyware and removal.
I did not realize that this was the same company with a slightly different approach. But once I hit the "Remove " button and saw what they were up to, I recognized them and their tricky offer. I had no problem uninstalling it by going to my Control Panel and checking Add or Remove Programs to remove it. When their survey came up asking why, I checked, "I wanted it free". Anything else will get you into more trouble.
CyberDefender is a disreputable, unscrpulous company. I wonder if BBB doesn't have major compaints about them.

I got scammed out of $299 for a PC Support contract by CyberDefender. They "remote logged in" to my PC and installed CyberDefender scanner, and claimed my computer was infested with viruses that I would need to pay them $299 to remove. I did so, and they supposedly cleaned it up, then installed several more CyberDefender software programs. Within a few hours, my Windows password stopped working, and ALL my email accounts and banking account passwords were compromised.
I believe CyberDefender actually installed rootkit and spyware programs on my computer and STOLE MY PASSWORDS.
This is a TOTAL ROGUE ANTIVIRUS SCAM! Do not download it. Do not pay them any money. Go get a reputable antivirus solution from Norton, McAfee, or other company.
CyberDefender is scam!
The software download is intended to make your PC look "infected". The scam is they want you to buy PC support fix your PC. Don't do it! The issues detected by the software are completely false!
I installed and got my first service with CyberDefender today. While I was waiting for the Tech to perform the maintenance on my Mom's computer I started seeing these awful allegations. The support personel invited me to look at BBB.org where they have A rating, hundreds of complaints and most of them amicably resolved. Customer review looks fishy because the one posting calls it a scam but the overall customer review is good based on "8 reviews" although the rest are just comments on the negative revew. This company may have unscrupulous marketing tactics and BBB's positive ratings may reflect the business being a paying member. BBB is currently evidently being sued by a small business who claims it gives positive ratings if you join BBB and support the organization. I don't know what to think right now...
Got Scamed
I first made the mistake in ordering for the clean up of two (2) more computers than I needed from the way their ordering form was set-up. When I finally reached some one in support with regards to my problem, they gave me a number to call. They then looked over my computer and told me I had major issues with my computer system which would cost me $199.00 more for one year to first elimanate then to control. I told them that I didn't have the money at that time but I would the following day. I told them I would call them the next day or if I didn' t they should call me, which they never did. I tried calling their financial department at least three (5) times that day and at least (4) times more the following three(3) days but kept getting the run around by their computer. I never once talked to a live person. I eventially chalked up the loss. Within two weeks I received their disk in the mail. It has been sitting on my mantel ever since. I just looked at my bank statement and they charged me $14.95 for something that I am not even using. Where is the justice in that.

I also have a problem with reaching a live person. They over billed me. They are fast to take your money but not to fix the billing problem. If I do not hear from them (after 2 days of calling) I will reach the corparate office.
spyware can't uninstall
Now I'm getting nervous. I posted a comment and it's not here. Someone said they managed to get the program off their machine. I was stupid enough to buy the program hoping to keep my computer safe. I see my original complaint now so I'll cut to the chase as best I can. The program quits after 1-2 days. They offer a 30-day "no questions asked" guaranty. After 5 days, I called to cancel. I spent 1 1/2 hours trying to get a refund saying that I wasn't satisfied and that should be enough. No way. I told them the program had quit twice and they repaired it twice. That was all they were willing to do--repair it again--no refund. I had used the tech support part of the program to ask them to repair it twice. Their records show they helped me with viruses--nonsense---they put them on my machine. They kept me on the phone for 3 hours with nonsense technobabble while they did who-knows what to my computer during those supposed repairs. They finally agreed to a refund if they could do a system restore back to the point of purchase. All I know is the most blatant damge is repaired, that now I can download only occasionally, can't install plugins or anything else, can't listen to music, and they gave me back the Trojans they supposedly removed. Mainly I can visit websites and email. That's all.
They left a file on my computer. One day, I clicked uninstall and let the computer work on it for 3 hours. Then the Cyberdefender wizard popped up and unistalled the program.
A couple of days later, after cancelling, they claimed my account was still active and sent me instructions on how to repair it. Worse, they reinstalled not only the original file I spent 3 hours ridding myself of, but also a toolbar, without my authorization. I try every day to uninstall both, but the Cyberdefender Wizard arrives immediately and tells me the programs are uninstalled. The're still there. I got a new firewall and found that info about me was going through the firewall to cyberdefender. I call that spyware. I'm now waiting for the 3d promised refund.
My bank has always been good about helping me with this sort of problem, but they closed this case so fast it made my head spin. I posted a comment here because someone actually succeeded at uninstalling the program and I left my email address hoping he could tell me how, but it's gone. If he or anyone can help, my email address is metta.[protected]@gmail.com. Make sure I see cyberdefender complaint board or I won't open the email. This company advertises everywhere, but Mozilla Firefox rates them yellow--caution. I say RUN! Don't even think about trying even their trial version. Read the posts of those who did. For the record, this is a sugar-coated version of what they put me through and it's not over yet.
I contacted my bank again ie Cyberdefender. This time, I got results. I got an immediate and full credit. The banker started a conference call with me & Cyberdefender: it didn't help their case that they didn't respect her time and kept us on hold until she had to move on. Visa will now take the money from Cyberdefender and will also levy fines against them. Then Cyberdefender called me back with their favorite fallback offer: We'll give you all but $100.00 to cover the tech support we gave you. That isn't how a trial period works. Further, the tech support I got was stupidly signing up for their program, and calling them twice in 5 days to repair it. After 5 days, I tried to cancel. They called the repairs help with viruses. Get all the info you can together before you call the bank. And let them do most of the talking after you give them the facts. I also ran copies of all the complaints herein, should I need them. I didn't, but it seemed prudent.
I didn't do a clean install on my computer to get rid of the file, but because the first time they promised a refund, they put trojans back on my machine. My 3-month-old computer is pretty well shot, so it's a small victory.
DO NOT OPEN THEIR EMAILS! And it is vital to find a way to get that file off your system. If you read my previous post, you'll see that my success was short-lived. I wish you the best. I wish there was a way to report thieves like this--I believe installing malware and spyware is against internet rules.
Mary May--you have a problem. Read all the posts here on cyberdefender: they slipped with one person and said, "don't worry, we'll get our virus, I mean program, right on your system." It is malware, and my computer completely crashed--it's only 3 mos. old and pretty much ruined. Whatever virus they install seems to elude all detection and causes gradual continual degradation of your system.
If you install the comodo firewall in advanced mode (disable your firewall first), you'll see all your info going directly to cyberdefender--that's how I found out it was also spyware. As a beginner, I then put comodo in beginner's mode. This was just an eye-opener for me, it won't help you but cyberdefender gets really defensive when they find out you know that--no refund though. If you do that, it's just for your info: you can then go back to whatever firewall you use or just take my word for it.
Most companies online won't do business with me because I changed my credit card number over this. Only cyberdefender and google had the original number, but it doesn't match the number that the companies (whose sites I have never clicked on) have for me. Definately do that if you haven't already, but I wonder if it's safe to use my new card with the few companies who don't buy personal info, since everything I do goes to cyberdefender. Someone else in this forum, who had never clicked on cyberdefender had money taken from her account.
I clicked uninstall on the cyberdefender file and let it run for 3 hours, then the cyberdefender wizard uninstalled the program, but within 2 days, cyberdefender reinstalled it and another. They're even harder to remove. I have had to reload my operating system 3 times, but it is hopeless--my brand new computer is dust and I am out $200.00 to cyberdefender for nothing--I said they offered a 30-day satisfaction guaranty and after 5 days I was dissatisfied, so they rewrote their guaranty and backdated it to 2005. If you call for a refund, the abuse is really incredible. Any promise of a refund will not be kept. They've gone so far as to use fake names. Once you get involved with them, they refuse to allow you to stop being their customer even though you're getting nothing for your money.
I still get their unwanted daily phishing alerts: I am unwilling to risk opening them.
I am a beginner so take my advice on that basis: if it's not too late, you might be able to do a system restore to the date they installed the program. The other option is to reload your operating system, but since that was the last straw for my computer, I'm not sure it's a good idea. The file is gone, but my empty C drive thinks it's full: I can't do a system restore or download programs.
Banks are supposed to help with issues like this: some do--I will be changing banks. I don't know what cyberdefender tells them, but it seems to convince them not to help. Try anyway.
hansen@gmail.com is not my email address. It is at the end of my post.

I do understand why people would trust CyberDefender.
There is very few details on there website on what this program actually does. To me it looks like a registry scanner.
Registry scanners are sometimes too "automated" in the way they removal left over registry entries and can cause system damage if registry data is improperly selected for removal by mistake.
The add/remove may still leave traces, it is the vendor that creates the uninstall program so they decide what gets removed from the system when its called.
I'm working on a friends machine with Windows Vista on it. I have tried to remove Cyberdefender four times now using the unistall. The first time it went a way i had to go into safe mode to remove it. It reinstalled itself in a matter of minutes after the uninstall. After that I have tried both in safe mode and in reg mode to remove it and it will not go away. The unistall wizard comes up and says it is complete, but after reboot CD is still installed. By the way, does anyone know where the cyberdfender files are located in the folders?

It's obvious that you never worked for Cyberdefender. Our company never tells customers that they have viruses when they do not, as that would be misrepresentation and illegal business practice.

I tried the free tool to check my lap top and it completely corrupted my lap top. It now has top go in to be serviced and rebuilt. When I called the company, the person on the other end gave me an attitude. Not only did he basically call me an idiot but he could barely talk or understand enough english to get that said. I think this company fills your computer with virus programs then tells you about them and charges you to remove them afterward.
Do Not CAll Headquarters DO NOT they are a joke toooooo...Terrible...still trying to get my money.
they are a rip off. I had the same problem. I am so sorry that I did not find you all sooner. Terrible!
they won't help you at all, just cause more issues, have been dealing with these people for 2 yrs now and never get and customer service or satisfaction from them. Always an excuse, call me you have my number...oh right you won't.. i have left numerous messages for you Even called Gary the CEO, do you think the gives a damn about my crappy service, going a 8 days waiting on a CD that was supposed to be sent overnight, i mean really how much would priority mail cost you..a lot less than my 300 you took.

My problem is not as bad, but another example of how deceitful these guys are. When I was searching for anti-virus programs, I came upon their site, and decided to try one program, not the whole suite. Problem is, they cleverly have every product pre-checked to purchase. It immediately billed me as there was no screen to review the order. Ther of course, was nobody there to contact until the next day, although the had live folks online to chat me into buying.
The next day, I spoke to a person there who actually got my issue and said it would all be refunded. My credit card was refunded for all but $15. I disputed this with my credit card company, and long story short, I am still fighting over $15, as Cyberdefender is challenging it.
I WAS CHARGED 450.40 WHICH I NEVER AUTHORISED & HAVE A SCREWED UP NEW COMPUTER.DOESN'T WORK HALF THE TIME & GET KICKED OFF EVERY 2 R 3 MINUTES. CLICK FOR CYBER TO CLEAN IT UP & IT'S THE SAME THING EVERY TIME.SAME THING POPS UPSAME VIRUSES BUT IT NEVER WORKS. THE PROTECTION WAS SUPPOSED TO B FREE, YEA DEARLY PAID FOR & THEY WANT RETURN MY MONEY.I WOULDN'T RECOMEND THEM FOR ANYONE, IF U DON'T WANT A MESSED UP COMPUTER U WON'T EVEN CLICK ON THEIR LINK.I AM SORRY I DID.MY COMPUTER IS ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD.
Consider yourself lucky. To date, I've received $100.00 of the $300.00 I spent for nothing. When their program fails after a day or 2, twice, you'll have hell to pay trying to get a refund. Suddenly they're not very nice anymore. You are absolutely right about the customer "service". They supposedly have a 30-day no-questions asked money back guaranty. I've spent hours on the phone answering the "no questions." They promised a refund if they could restore my system to the point of purchase. They did a lot more than that by way of damage and even gave me back the Trojans they supposedly removed. All I can do now is email and visit websites. They left 2 files on my computer that I cannot remove. Those programs are sending info to Cyberdefender through my firewall and I can't make it stop. This is spyware. By all means, stay as far away as you can get from these people. I've sent hours on hold only to be cut off. Fortunately I have a speaker phone. I never got the twice-promised refund. I am now waiting til Feb 11 to see if promise #3 did any good. On their record, instead of reporting that I called twice to say their program wasn't working, they put it down as help with viruses.
With a 30-day no questions asked guaranty, they are trying to say I used the program--the tech support portion-to justify refusing the no questions asked refund. They lied about my purchase date to try to skirt the 30-day guaranty, and I don't know what they told the bank, which is usually helpful in cases like this, but the bank closed my claim immediately. I don't have the money or the program. I'm disabled, low income, and wanted to be sure my computer was protected. Instead I got damage, malware, spyware and abuse. These people are nothing but trouble. Should you call and ask for the date, they'll keep you on the phone for 3 hours with meaningless technobabble. Which will be used against you at their convenience.
Unauthorized billing
I needed a anti virus for my computer this cyber defender offered a free download when I continued with my order it actually was 29.99 I did agree to that but when they actually billed my credit card it was 64.95 I have tried numerous times over the last week to contact them and have gotten no where they have not returned e mails or a call I even tried to chat with there representative and was disconnected.

cannot uninstall, installed a toolbar without asking
I heard Cyberdefender advertised on the radio so I thought I'd atleast check it out. I'm always looking at possible ways to keep up with the computer hackers, etc. It was go to freepcdiagnosis.com and so I go there and hit the free download and scan button. Should be download and "scam" button. Anyway, it came up that there were several things on my computer. I do have Norton Antivirus and Spybot on my computer and do checks 1-3 times a week usually. Anyway, I did some checking and found that Spybot didn't like them because they installed a toolbar without permission. I checked and sure enough, here's this Cyberdefender toolbar up there. I tried to uninstall Cyberdefender but have not been able to do so. I'm worried that they are doing more harm than good. They should at the very least let you know they are installing a toolbar and let you decide if you want it and also give clear instructions on how to get Cyberdefender uninstalled on your computer. This is the kind of stuff I'm trying to battle. Please someone let me know how to get this off.

Wow, you just sound like a crank with a mad-on against ANY business that advertises in the media, as your MANY, often-repeated rants on the subject would prove!

You post this same silly rant over and over and over and over and OVER again.
Plus I find it hard to believe that some antivirus company has actually WRONGED YOU! so bad that you'd actually want to assault its employees. From another one of your comments:
"I would like to hear of some one going to their offices and sending them to the hospital in VERY serious condition...Now that would be worth $40.00, wouldn't it?"
So far you hate the Cash4Gold people, the Acaiberry people... You really need to quit quaffin' that ol' hate-o-rade, Charlie. Either that or quit using the name of my favorite Peanuts character. :-P

Alternatively, you can go to your Control Panel and open your computer's search function.
Do a search on the search term "CYBERDEFENDER"
Delete any files that come up.

If the trial or paid software still does not uninstall, you will first need to make sure the program is completely closed. If the small icon is still there in the lower right corner, you will need to exit first (right click & select EXIT).
If there is no option to uninstall when the program asks why you want to uninstall, there is an issue with your DPI (dots per inch) settings.
To change DPI settings, right click anywhere on your desktop & select

Your DPI settings should be on Normal, not Large. If you change it to normal, try uninstalling again. If you still don't see the uninstall option after changing your DPI setting, you may need to restart your computer for the DPI settings to take effect.
Once you’ve got the correct DPI setting in place, simply click

All Cyberdefender products are removable by the steps described -- I myself have installed and removed our product from any number of computers here in the office. However, if you are an Avast user this might still not work, as Avast is notably antagonistic to our program and may stop some of its scripts from running. This may be true of other antivirus software applications as well, so you may want to temporarily exit out of any other antivirus software running on your computer in order to remove our free trial.
The last resort I can suggest is to try to remove it in Safe Mode.
First, unplug your network cable.
Then turn off your computer and restart it.
Once your computer has come on, but before the Windows operating system logo appears, tap your F8 key repeatedly -- this will start your computer in Safe Mode.
Then make sure you have exited out of Early Detection Center by right-clicking on the red box in the top right-hand corner, or right-clicking on the red EDC icon in your lower right-hand toolbar.
Then, simply click
Start>
Settings>
Control Panel>
Add/Remove Products
to open the menu listing all currently installed programs on your computer. Locate CyberDefender and/or MyIdentityDefender entries from the list and click the Uninstall option to remove the software. An uninstall wizard will walk you through the complete uninstall process.
VERY IMPORTANT: Restart your computer and allow your Windows operating system to boot up normally after uninstalling to complete the process. Then re-connect your network cable, and you should be good to go.
Thank you,

Read full review of CyberDefender and 12 commentsfruadulent company - beware!!
Avoid Cyberdefender and My Identity Defender at all costs!
This is actually spyware/malware that will install a trojan virus on your computer that will a) display a "you've been infected - download this software" type alert, b) will sporatically restart your system on it's own, and c) will block you from going to any types of tech support sites, spyware removal sites, competitor sites, etc. The block comes in the form of a googlish search result page proudly diplaying their logo at the top. All links direct to their site.
I called tech support to have this "software" removed. The techs were the most unprofessional customer service reps I have dealt with period. Disrespectful, challenging and pushy.
They will not help you unless you a) sign over control of your computer to them (while they copy your files on the back end to obtain personal information), or b) pay their $99 premuim service. One of their techs actually slipped their tongue, saying "Sir, I will help you remove the virus... I mean our software".
Their "free help" includes walking you through add/remove programs in the control panel, and resetting internet explorer to factory defaults - very simplistic procedures. Beyond that, they say they need you to relinquish control of your PC to them or pay the $99 fee. I imagine they are able to trick many people who are less computer savvy.
I am appalled that this company is in business. This is a complete fraud to scam you of your money and obtain important personal information.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
“Talked to tech from Cyberdefender last night about My Identity Defender on my computer and all the troubles it is causing. He said that it is a virus that has nothing to do with the company. I thought he was going to help me as he walked me through several steps and took over my computer and got into my files. After searching my files he said he found the virus and suggested several options such a Geek Squad that can fix the problem for several hundred dollars or they have a plan for a couple hundred dollars. I am very worried about what this company is up to and what is going to happen next.”
From joksaw’s description, it appears that he may have had a pre-existing virus, malware, or rogue antivirus infection on his computer when he called our customer service helpline. Seeing as how we are a computer security software company, customers calling us with computer infections is a VERY common occurrence, and our technicians assist with these situations sometimes multiple times an hour. Joksaw may not be aware that some viruses and rogue antiviruses are very complex forms of malware, and at this time there is NO antivirus software on the market that is capable of removing certain viruses, Trojans, rogue antiviruses, or computer worms on its own. A rogue antivirus in particular must be manually removed by a trained technician, or by means of a system restore.
Our computer security software can remove a great many viruses, and we add more fixes and patches to our database every day. However, if there is a pre-existing infection on the customer’s computer, it can be difficult for our antivirus software to work as intended, as some malware is actually sophisticated enough to try to block computer security software scripts from running and prevent its installation on an affected computer system.
CyberDefender will always assist a customer calling into our call center to activate their software at no charge. However, any customer wishing to utilize our technical support services beyond activation of his or her subscription is asking for much more involved service from our company than just support on a software subscription, especially if he or she calls in with a full-blown virus or rogue antivirus infection already existant on their computer. Our company offers both software and technical support packages for sale, and a software-only subscription does not include unlimited live support on any and all technical problems that arise after purchasing the subscription, or that pre-existed on the customer’s computer before s/he made the purchase.
There is no reason to be worried about a simple diagnosis of your system – we do those for customers every day, and they are an entirely routine procedure for us. We do not “get into anyone’s files” in an invasive manner – we perform a diagnostic scan of the customer’s computer to find out what viruses or malware are affecting its performance. This is rather like a doctor asking a patient to disrobe for an examination; it has nothing to do with invasion of privacy and everything to do with trying to help.
If you require any further assistance, we would be glad to help, but we cannot find your account based on just the online nickname “joksaw.” Please feel free to contact our corporate headquarters at [protected] or email us at supportATcyberdefender.com, and please be sure to give us your full name, date of purchase, and the email address you used when you made your purchase. We will be happy to assist you.
All CyberDefender products can be uninstalled using your Windows Control Panel and opening Add/Remove Programs.
First, you will want to exit out of Registry Cleaner or Early Detection Center by right-clicking on the red box in the top right-hand corner, or right-clicking on the icon in your lower right-hand toolbar.
Then, simply click
Start>
Settings>
Control Panel>
Add/Remove Products
to open the menu listing all currently installed programs on your computer. Locate any CyberDefender and/or MyIdentityDefender entries from the list and click the Uninstall option to remove the software. An uninstall wizard will walk you through the complete uninstall process.
VERY IMPORTANT: Restart your computer after uninstalling to complete the process.
Alternatively, you can go to your Control Panel and open your computer's search function.
Do a search on the search term "CYBERDEFENDER"
Delete any files that come up.
VERY IMPORTANT: Restart your computer to complete the process.
Properties>
Settings>
Advanced>
DPI setting
Your DPI settings should be on Normal, not Large. If you change it to normal, try uninstalling again. If you still don't see the uninstall option after changing your DPI setting, you may need to restart your computer for the DPI settings to take effect.
Once you’ve got the correct DPI setting in place, simply click
Start>
Settings>
Control Panel>
Add/Remove Products
to open the menu listing all currently installed programs on your computer. Locate CyberDefender and/or MyIdentityDefender entries from the list and click the Uninstall option to remove the software. An uninstall wizard will walk you through the complete uninstall process.
VERY IMPORTANT: Restart your computer after uninstalling to complete the process.
If you have taken all of the above steps and still cannot remove this program, and it is not showing up on your Add/Remove Programs menu, you have probably mistaken a rogue antivirus program for our product.
You can find a list of the names of rogue antivirus programs here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_antivirus
None of the listed programs are in any way affiliated with Cyberdefender.

Cyberdefender/ My Identity Defender
Talked to tech from Cyberdefender last night about My Identity Defender on my computer and all the troubles it is causing. I am very worried about what this company is up to and what is going to happen next.

A friend of mine's grown son has gotten this on his computer. He has special needs so the computer is one of his main forms of entertainment as he is not able to live a life like others his age. He doesn't fully understand about what to download or not to download so this is not the first time he has encountered such a problem. This time this may be one of the worst programs he has gotten on his computer as it just seems to still be there just when you think it's gone...WHAM, it's BACK! Shame on Cyberdefender for taking advantage of people and mucking with people's personal computers without permission! MyIdentityDefender is a bogus piece of CRAP!
I dont have this program on my system and after reading these comments, I never will have it so they have already lost a customer. I have found that programs such as System Mechanic do a wonderful job of finding and removing files tha are left behind from programs such as Cyberdefender. Especially if you have removed the program but have unwanted files that are still present on your hard drive.
I would also consider going to every website that you can leave messages and be sure to give your dissaproval of the Cyberdefender program. Free speech is a great tool when dealing with ### such as these people...SO USE IT.
I just got this off of someone's system. Search for cyberdefender in the registry and remove whatever you find. then go to the user's home and search, including hidden folders, for cyberdefender. Remove the folder it lives in. Then preferrably do a registry cleanup. Finally, go to Add/Remove in the control panel and when you start an uninstall, you'll be told it is already gone and it will be removed from the list. This made a HUGE difference in regaining system performance, too!
I agree. These are desperate people trying to use their intelligence in an evil way. I am a Christian and am Praying that people get together and Totally STOP this scam
I have done a file search and deleted many of their files. When I want to get it off internet, I simply go to Windows Task Manager and close it from there after my computer is up and running.
I have called them, but when I called, all the information of my husbands was off ( credit cards ), because we had just changed internet companies. I just tried to download a Java update for on demand movies through Amazon and it turned session off.
Presently, I have Fiddler ( Internet Explorer Repair Software ) and it showed me cyberdefender bumped me off my session. How dare they. This is a break in my Constitutional Rights of Privacy. I DID NOT give them permission to do this.
I hope that people keep sending in their Honest Opinions of these people. Somewhere in all of this, there may be a Lawyer that gets their computer zapped AND BINGO, our Voices will get Heard.
Cathy
Finally. Now I know why my computer turned itself on at 3 am. My experiences with them are already posted. They are much worse than you say--not an insult to you at all--it would take pages to go into all the details. I found your comment about the slip of the tongue, "we will remove the viruses, I mean program.." very interesting since their programs are also spyware. I can't believe they can keep advertising all over the net. And there's the woman who gets charged having never even visited their site. How many people have been screwed without knowing anyplace to report them? I don't think there's any skullduggery low enough that these people won't stoop to.
I knew from the start that something wasn't right with this program, I currently have it on my work PC, and It's driving me crazy. I typed in My Identity Defender and I immediately saw this site, when i tried to view the page it sent me to a completely different site with streaming videos. I went to my boss office and I am currently using his PC and it's the only way I could view the page. I don't know how to remove the program and my boss seems to think that it is working properly, how do I prove to him that I am actually right, and How the Hell do we get it off my computer. Thanks For the Posting Otherwise I wouldn't have any evidence at all! Any ideas I will check back
Thanks

I had the same problem as the other complaint here. DO NOT DOWNLOAD! Once you download it and run the scan, you have to pay for it before it will remove the threats. When I used control panel to uninstall, I got a dialog box asking me why I want to uninstall. One of the checkboxes was "I wanted it for FREE" so I tried that just to see what happened. The...

I downloaded cyberdefender from a freeware site (Yea - I know, you get what you pay for). I ran it and it found lots of problems that windows livecare didn't. However, this freeware only identifies "problems". You have to register and pay to remove these mysterious problems. Here's where it gets fun. If you decline to pay, it becomes a "virus warning" popup. I tried to uninstall but it didn't work. But boy that popup sure was working! I tried to remove it in control panel add/remove programs and that wouldn't work. Finally I went into program files and removed all files and folders that it would let me remove. I was able to disable the program so that it's not *** me off every 30 seconds, but it took an hour of diligent folder searching, etc. To get rid of it. It seems to me that cyberdefender antivirus is just plain vindictive when you decline to buy the software.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I was charged on my debit card $39.98 to dri*doublemyspeedregnow.com/c mn, a charge I never authorized. How do I get my money back?
I am having the same problems as some above are mentioning. It like the holding me hostage. I have to go through them to get on my yahoo web page even though I haven't bought anything through them yet just download them and my clean pc for a free diagnoses. It like my problems can't be fix unless i go thru them.

Still have the problem of a Cyber Registry screen pop up each time my pc is turned on...right click on the CyberDefender toolbar logo to get rid of it...I cannot find the program on My Computer Add/delete programs. I know the date it was loaded, but it does not appear as any of the programs. By the way, I too, declined to pay for their services!
Good news for CYBERDEFENDER users ! CYBERDEFENDER to pay out $9, 750, 000

In the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois
Thurman, et. al v. CyberDefender Corporation, Case No. 11 CH 16779
YOU MAY BE A MEMBER OF A CLASS ENTITLED TO A PAYMENT FROM A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT IF YOU PURCHASED CYBERDEFENDER CORPORATION’S SOFTWARE AND/OR SERVICES MARKETED UNDER ITS OWN NAME OR UNDER OTHER BRAND NAMES SUCH AS, WITHOUT LIMITATION, MAXMYSPEED.COM, DOUBLEMYSPEED.COM, MYCLEANPC.COM, AND/OR ANTISPYWAREFORDUMMIES.COM.
A Court authorized the email of this Notice.
This is not a solicitation from a lawyer. You are not being sued.
· A class action lawsuit is pending against CyberDefender Corporation (“CyberDefender”). That lawsuit arises from what Plaintiffs contend was the improper design, marketing and sale of CyberDefender’s computer software products and services. CyberDefender denies all claims. Nevertheless, to avoid the time, expense and distraction of litigation, Plaintiffs and CyberDefender have agreed to a settlement of this class action lawsuit (the “Settlement”). The Settlement has been preliminarily approved by a court in Chicago, Illinois, though you need not be a resident of Illinois to be entitled to relief under or bound by the Settlement.
· The Settlement will provide cash payments, as explained below, to residents of the United States who purchased one or more of CyberDefender Corporation’s (“CyberDefender”) software and/services on or before June 21, 2011.
· The Settlement also provides that CyberDefender will make certain disclosures to consumers with respect to its software and services. In addition, the Settlement provides that CyberDefender will continue to adhere to its refund policies.
My computer was running slow and I couldn't figure out why.So I thought I would call mycleanpc.com for help. After paying the $40.00, I got a pop up telling me to call their phone number for tech support. after 30 mins of waiting and watching while they scanned my computer, they called back and said they could fix all my problems for $250.00. One of my friends was here at the time, and said not to do it. I was hesitating, as I only paid $350.00 for my laptop, and didn't understand why it was so much money to fix. shortly after getting off the phone with them, my computer froze up completely. I ended up doing a restore point which seems to have worked to get rid of their software. I think I will cancel my credit card so I don't get any 'surprise' charges like others here have experienced. Bottom line...AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
They (CyberDefender) has totally screwed my computer up... to the point I am not sure it can be fixed/put back like it was... My advice to anyone even thinking of using them... Run away Fast! One of their guys totally wiped out my computer and none of them knows how to fix it.. I will be complaining to the BBS about them... Besides being a Rip-off, they will totally screw up your computer!
People who claim Cyberdefender is a good program are paid shills working for Cyberdefender. The program is malware and a virus. It will infect your computer and cause your hard drive to crash wiping out all your files. I learned the hard way. BEWARE!
I can only endorse the many problems and complaints outlined by others. I installed the program, and the problems began. (I had no problems with my computer before I did.) I couldn't get responses from them, couldn't get help, couldn't get a refund, and had to pay a local service $80 to rectify the damages caused by the program. DO NOT download the software or pay for their technical support.
Any company that has to promote itself by stating without giving examples "Even if you have anti-virus software installed you still may be at risk" in constant late night tv commercials is suspicious from the get-go, in my opinion. Then, all of the so-called success stories are given by actors who look like they barely know what a keyboard is. Even if the software is decent, which I doubt because of the "strong arm" tactics people are complaining about, I wouldn't use it because there are many alternatives available from companies who don't do such marketing tactics.

On behalf of CyberDefender Corporation, we apologize for any inconvenience any customer may have encountered with our products and services.
It is impossible for either our Early Detection Center antivirus and anti-malware program to "activate a malicious programe inside the Web browser, " nor do we sell "worthless" antivirus protection. We also do not send "virus warnings" to anyone through email, and we do not "contaminate" our customers' computers with anything. All of these allegations are absolutely false and have no substance whatsoever.
From your description, it sounds as though you may really have "purchased" a copycat rogue antivirus called Cyber Security, which was actually engineered to look like our product. You can (safely) read about Cyber Security here:
http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-cyber-security.html
Also, CyberDefender's Early Alert Center is the fastest-updated antivirus network in the industry -- we update in real-time instead of the 24 hours it takes other antivirus companies.
You can learn more about the Early Alert Center here:
