Dorm Room Movers This service was super expensive, the only option my school gave me, and it's taking forever

This service was super expensive, the only option my school gave me, and it's taking forever. It's been two months since DRM has packed my boxes. I prepaid for shipping labels, but my boxes are still in storage somewhere. I've contacted customer service half a dozen times, but no one will tell me when my boxes will be shipped or why they haven't yet. I've already paid them for this very expensive service but they have not carried through on any of their promises. It's extremely frustrating and I can't get in contact with anyone who can actually help me.

I 100% recommend Dorm Room Movers! The sign up process was super easy and simple and the boxes for storing my stuff came in the mail very quickly. The boxes are a great size for fitting my things and they're great quality -- very sturdy and easy to fold up. As a Campus Brand Ambassador for Dorm Room Movers, I have learned so much about them and they really are one of the best options for storage, shipping, and moving your stuff during summer break!

I'm current working with Dorm Room Movers as a Campus Brand Manager. They work really hard to make the move-out process quick and easy. I ordered a moving kit of my own and it came within a week. Great option for college students!

I love Dorm Room Movers! I think they're an incredible service that's great for anyone who lives far away from their school and needs help getting their stuff back home or needs somewhere to store it over the summer. Couldn't recommend more!

I definitely recommend using Dorm Room Movers! I've been working as a Campus Brand Manager for some time and can say that this is a great option for moving and storing your stuff during the summer. I would have loved to have a service like this when I was a freshman so I definitely am making use of this service now. Signing up was so easy and my storage boxes came in only 2 or 3 days. They provide enough boxes to store most of my things and they are great quality. Not only is the process affordable but it's also quick and efficient since they do the hard work for you!

Please do not use this service. I have been overcharged almost $1,000 to get my items packaged and shipped during the pandemic after the company repeatedly took money out of my account for miscellaneous fees after my boxes were put in storage and are over three months late. I have been on the phone with them every week since where they claim that there is an issue with shipping labels. However, I originally paid for my boxes to be shipped on the same day they were packaged for over $500 at the time. THEY ARE NOT sponsored by my school as stated on their website. They also do not let you get in contact with any of their management.

Absolutely dreadful service. I recognize that during a pandemic we have to be patient and flexible, but it took close to three months for my daughter to receive her boxes. The delay wasn't on UPS's end but on DRM's end in sending them out., Every time I called or used the website chat to make an inquiry I was told shipping was imminent. My daughter's items were packed sloppily and carelessly. We told the movers certain items were delicate and would need carful packing, and they were clearly just thrown randomly into a box along with heavy items and broke. (They could have alternatively packed these items with my daughter's clothes or bedding to cushion them.) They packed heavy books on top of a cough medicine bottle at the bottom of a suitcase. The cough bottle broke ruining several books and the suitcase. A few items were missing entirely, one of which was an original print and irreplaceable. Once we told them these items were missing they did go back to her dorm room a few months later to retrieve them -- which we saw them do via Zoom -- but we never received these items. They were clearly lost and never shipped to us. Tried making queries and once again got the run around. At their suggestion I filed a claim and provided profuse evidence (photos of broken items, invoices for replacing those items). My claim was denied because it was "filed outside 10 days of the service being completed". My recommendation is to not use Dorm Room Movers under any circumstance. I had to pick a star in order to leave a review, but I would otherwise provide no stars.

This is a miserable service. They will charge unreasonable rates to move items. It's remarkably unfortunate that my university decided to partner with Dorm Room Movers, as they do NOT provide an efficient service, nor do they do much to serve their customers. They have exorbitant line items on their billing statements to customers like "Shipping/Handling Fees" and "Shipment Packing Fee" for items that are already packed and were stored at their warehouses. Why waste your money on a shockingly bad service? They do nothing to ensure the protection of your items, and they are horrendous people operating a miserable company.

Dorm Room Movers trashed my students belongings, stole her most valuable items, its warehouse in Stratford CT took 4 hours to locate her belongings while we were standing outside the warehouse, finally gave us her stuff, which only included relatively cheap stuff while her most valuable items were completely missing. I can not help but think the Dorm Room Movers stole her most valuable items (winter jackets, running shoes, boots, etc.). These guys should never be trusted. They trashed the student dorm room, and stole valuable items -- 2 shoes and many winter jackets. Dorm Room Movers = Dorm Room Trashers and Thieves.

Horrible company that does not deliver on services, overcharges on services and theft by employees is potential since many items never received. Also did not offer adequate compensation.

TL;DR: DO NOT USE DORM ROOM MOVERS AT ANY COST My experience with Dorm Room Movers has been the worst 3 month hell I've ever had to deal with at the hands of a company. Due to COVID-19, my things were packed for me instead of me packing them myself. This resulted in: (1) the packers being late to the time slot by about 4 hours so I had to wait 4 hours longer than my 3-hour time window for video chatting them, (2) not everything packed was my own things, so I paid to store and ship someone else's things, (3) everything was packed like they threw it all into a box, which they did and I watched them do over video chat, (4) the boxes WEREN'T EVEN FULL which helps a lot when a company charges by the box, (5) items were left behind because they didn't want to pack them. In all this cost almost $1000- totally not worth it. Once things were finally, in storage it seemed like everything was going to be fine, but then I requested that my items be shipped to me and once again, all hell broke loose. The company tried to tell me that they couldn't ship one of my items, never mind they had somehow gotten to and from my school and the storage facility. And then they charged me extra "to package it" when I said they had to find a way to ship it or replace the item for me. I had an expected delivery date of August 10, but that day came and went with no communication. I finally checked the UPS tracking website and it said that UPS hadn't even RECEIVED my items yet. I was pissed and tried multiple times to communicate via email and their "live chat" on their website only to hear the same thing every time: "We are getting your items to you... blah, blah, blah." I requested multiple times to be actually notified by email when my items were shipped (which did not happen), and I also suggested that since I was not receiving the timely shipping that I paid for, I deserved a refund. Of course, the guy I was messaging didn't want to hear that so he kept up the act of "your items are coming." I had probably the same communication with the same person 5 times before my items were finally delivered on August 22nd. And don't worry, it gets better. After not receiving notification (like I asked) about when my packages shipped, my packages came and one of the items they sent me WAS SOMEONE ELSE'S SUITCASE instead of my own. Not to mention the other packages came in various states of disarray, with flaps open, broken items, smashed artwork and crushed rocks/geodes. So now, I have given back the wrong suitcase and the guy assures me that they are in communication with the warehouse, "where he is sure my bag is." I don't have much confidence in it showing up anytime soon, if at all. Oh, and the item they said they "couldn't ship" came in a flattened box with tape all along the edges that was ripping off and the item almost fell out of the package. And it was almost another $1,000 to ship my items to me. Avoid at all cost.

This company does not deserve any stars. But have no other choice I had to put 1. I was told by them that my dispute was going to be resolved in my favor. No they lie. They are close to criminal behavior with unexpected late charges and when you have a dispute with them thru your credit card company they wait until the delivery date is close by and they then call to say pay up or you don't get your personal belongings. If you don't pay because there is an open dispute not resolved they then threaten to charge additional storage fees. DON'T use this company. Is cheaper to buy pack your self and ship or take on an airplane. They should be investigated and loose there license.

I am not sure where to even begin. Initially, I thought this would be a really great service. I registered my daughter and then Covid happened. The boxes didn't arrive in time for her to use them, so I had to purchase boxes elsewhere. On the date they chose for free pick-up, she was still out of town during Spring Break (Thursday of Friday they published Monday as free pick-up). It was like pulling teeth to find out whether they would do an additional free pick-up day that week or the next. She ended up rearranging her travel plans to get back to campus in time. Their fees are crazy high. I never imagined one item/box would be $40+ (it is actually more without discounts). I can rent an entire storage unit for a month for that price. The page that showed their pricing was confusing. Even though they are not affiliated with the college, they charge by semester (4 months), so even if they store your stuff for two weeks or two months, you still get charged for four months. With the timing of Covid, storage was automatically counted as two semesters (two months of Spring semester and four months of Summer). As soon as I realized what was going on, I attempted to schedule a pick-up of my daughter's things from storage because we only live 90 miles away from her school. I was charged for a full semester of storage and a warehouse fee of $50 because I went to the warehouse and picked up her stuff. The warehouse was almost twice as far away from our house as the school. Weeks after I picked up her stuff, I was getting calls about the need to reschedule mu pick-up from the warehouse. Today, I am receiving texts about my items in storage expiring on 7/16. They were never rude, just unhelpful and unapologetic. They referred to their actions as commendable. If money is not an issue, I suppose they are fine. Not a good value for me and not actually affiliated with the college so billing by semester seems misleading.

How can this company even be in business without getting in trouble? Screwing over college kids during a pandemic is just low. Watch out. They charge extra without warning.

This is an update to my previous negative review. I have changed my view of DRM and its staff. My experience with the CEO Leor L, his COO Jason F, and key staff person Steve was exceptionally positive. The era of electronic relationships, texts and emails often leads me to assume the worst of companies who have made missteps, and that was definitely the case here. My assumptions about the integrity and intentions of DRM turned out to be wrong. It is staffed and led by human beings who actually care about their work and their reputation. This is not to say that our experience was problem free. I believe DRM bit off more than it could chew in these extraordinary circumstances. The increased work burden resulted in mistakes in moving my daughter's belongings, but once I connected with the DRM leadership they made a genuine and well-intended effort to fix the problems, and I am now satisfied. One thing they do is record the movers work via zoom which helped me understand where some errors were made both by the movers and in our own communication. I now have a positive view of the company.

Our child's college recommended Dorm Mover's when the school shut down in a hurry due to COVID-19. After promising free delivery, and after we picked a free delivery date on Dorm Movers' own calendar, they texted and stated there would be a $300 charge. They said free delivery was only available "before the COVID," which makes no sense at all since since it was 8/13 when we scheduled the delivery, which was obviously "during COVID." There is a long list of similar fraudulent communications form Dorm Movers which I will be sharing with ComplaintsBoard.com.

The movers and customer service rep were very friendly, but everything else about the company seems unorganized, overpriced, and possibly untrustworthy. The Registration: I acknowledge that I didn't read the movers' entire website, and I didn't shop around. The university's move-out instructions were constantly changing, we had to decide quickly, and the university recommended this company. To make sure all our bases were covered, I estimated 15 boxes (more than I thought we'd need), and I arranged to keep everything stored from mid-June to the end of September. The Move: I greatly appreciated the Zoom call when they arrived at the room so my daughter and I could identify her things. I also appreciated the Zoom call after the packing was done; we saw some of the packed boxes and were told that the rest were being loaded on the truck. After seeing the size of the boxes, I doubt that my daughter had enough stuff to FILL all 15 I'd allowed for. The Payment: After the move, I was expecting to get the bill by email; the email I got instead was from my credit card company, saying the movers had tried to charge my credit card, and it was declined. At this point, I hadn't received a bill, a payment due date, or a request to authorize this particular payment. The charge was more than $1,000 -- for 15 boxes stored for 3 months in a 5'x5' space, I believe. ?!?!? I've rented much larger storage units for longer time and far less than a thousand bucks, so I figured the packing fees were the culprit; but packing fees were only a third of the total costs. The movers emailed and texted me about the declined charge but didn't include an invoice or mention price. I had to ask for an invoice, and it didn't include the details I'd expect for a thousand-dollar moving job. Nor did it have a payment due date or a way to proceed with payment. In any case, I went to the movers' website to find payment information; I didn't find much. I called customer service and asked if I could split the cost into 3 equal payments made in July, August, and September; the representative put me on hold to "escalate" my request, returned to say the plan was okay, and we ended our pleasant call pleasantly. A few minutes later, I called customer service back with an offer that I thought was better for both of us -- 4 equal payments starting now and continuing in July, August, and September. I got the same customer rep as last time, but this time, when she "escalated" my request, she said billing wouldn't allow me to pay in August or September, because schools would reopen in August. So, they would take my first of four payments now, but I had to pay the rest in full before the first week of August. ?!?!?! Universities haven't told students ANY details about reopening plans in the fall, so how does billing know? Had I not made that second call, I might've kept my original payment plan; OR, would billing have ignored the payment plan and repeatedly charged my credit card before August without so much as a heads-up? But here's another question: if I believe billing's claim that schools are reopening in August, then we'll be moving out of storage in August, instead of September, as I have it arranged now. Wouldn't that reduce my thousand-dollar bill? If the answer's yes, how can billing expect me to pay early for services that they won't have provided? If I pay early and then move out of storage early, what would be the chances of my getting a refund? I'm trying to give the benefit of doubt since I'm not familiar with this company, but the way this has gone for me creates a lot of doubt.

Dorm Room Movers Dorm room boxes not being released for pickup

We are experiencing issues with Dorm Room Movers, who have been unresponsive and are now refusing to allow us to retrieve our boxes on the contract's end date. This would trigger another four months of storage, which we are not interested in signing up for. It feels like they are holding our items hostage. Despite our attempts to arrange an alternate pickup date, they insist on delivering the items in September, which is well past my daughter's move-in date. I have called and waited on hold for a supervisor, but each time I am told that they will call me back. My daughter has also tried twice to retrieve her belongings, but Dorm Room Movers have declined to give her the boxes back, even though this is clearly stated in the contract and within the end date.

Desired outcome: I would like to pick my boxes next week.

I have contacted this business via phone, and attempting to communicate via messaging on the website multiple times. I get no response. Their business hours are terrible for any person who has a job trying to communicate with them. If you do not call before 3:30pm Pacific time, you are screwed because they have no way for anyone to help you after 3:30pm. I requested that my son's belongings be picked up and shipped to our home on May 24th. I paid for that to happen. It is now June 2nd and we do not have any of his belongings NOR do we have any answer as to where they are or how to get them. This is unacceptable. I will file a small claims suit against them if this is not resolved this week.

I hired Dorm Room Movers because of Covid-19, to make it easy to get my items from my dorm room. Dorm Room Movers advertises professional movers who can pack up and move ALL of your items from your dorm room. I would not recommend this company at all. The day that the dorm room movers were planning on moving my items, I was told I would receive a zoom call. They were three hours late from the time I expected a call. Once I finally got the call, I told them that everything had to go except for the University owned furniture. I watched them pack my items. This was not professional. They were throwing and stuffing items in boxes, not neatly and not professionally. The day after they packed my stuff up, I got a call from my area coordinator who told me that they left behind stuff in drawers and multiple items like my laundry basket, my shower caddy and multiple bins. I had to make a trip back to school, which I was trying to avoid having to do, to get my items that were left behind. This completely ruined the purpose of using Dorm Room Movers. I would not recommend using this company at all.

Dorm Room Movers My daughter and her roommate had to hire the company to pack up dorm items and place in storage

My daughter and her roommate had to hire the company to pack up dorm items and place in storage. The students needed to leave New York within a day and move back home to California. The company knew they were the only option. The students could not stay on campus to pack up or receive items. The company charged us $1734.90 to pack up one dorm room with 2 beds and store them during the summer months. The packer was supposed to face-time the students to supervise what was being packed. The packer claimed he didn't know how to use the app. We had to trust him completely. The company would only hold items for a certain amount of time before additional charges where incurred so my daughter arranged for the company to deliver items to her dorm room before she was able to return to campus. Once she arrived, she noticed many items missing and damaged. I emailed the company immediately and was asked to provide a list and links of missing and broken items which I provided. Plants were packed with clothes, sheets, and towels so everything was filthy. The storage bins and storage caddy were broken. We were charged extra for 2 clothing racks which are missing. First, we were told they have 30 days to locate items in the warehouse. More than 30 days later they found 1 item which is also damaged. They sent us a photo and said the item will be delivered asap. It has been 2 weeks and still no call or follow up as to the 1 missing item found. The company has been giving me the run-a-round and brush off for months now. I asked for a full refund for damages and stress and have been ignored. The rep Katie, never bothers to answer my questions via email. It's as though she's a robot and just responds with 'We are sorry for the inconvenience'. She never escalates the issue after all my requests to do so. This experience has been absolutely frustrating to be so blatantly taken advantage of.
