THEY ASKED FOR A $250 TIP for a $461 ALL-INCLUDED moving contract!
They BROKE one of my bookshelves!
They DID NOT TAKE MY DESK AND COAT RACK, which are ON THE MOVING LIST!
Moving Distance and Studio Size: The moving distance is only a 12-minute walk, and I am moving to a 500 sq. ft. studio.
$250 Tips Request: After loading my belongings onto the truck, the mover requested a total of $250 for both tips and an additional charge for small boxes or bags, including many unopened small Amazon packages. Despite offering to take these small packages myself to avoid the charge, they refused, stating the items were already on the truck. I offered to contact the moving company, but they forbade it and threatened that the moving company would charge us more than the amount offered because, for the moving company, even one slipper would count as a box. After a lengthy dispute, we settled on a $200 tip ($160 in cash and $40 previously paid).
Failure to Take Listed Items: They did not take my desk and coat rack, both listed on the moving inventory. I have pictures to prove this. Due to the inconvenience of transporting the desk ourselves, we had no choice but to abandon it.
Broken Bookshelf: One of my bookshelves was broken during the move. Unfortunately, amid the dispute over tips, I forgot to take a picture of the damage. However, I can provide pictures of the bookshelf in my old apartment and a video of my new apartment, clearly showing the missing desk and bookshelf.
Delayed Start and Pressure for Tips: The movers arrived 30 minutes later than the scheduled time (around 9:30 am), and the actual move started at 10:00 am. Subsequently, they spent almost an hour pressuring us to pay the $200 tip.
I chose Bumbo Moving because they claimed to be a reputable chain, but this turned out to be the worst experience in my more than 10 years of living in New York. I plan to share this disappointing experience on my school board and every social media platform available to me.
Claimed loss: The mover arrived late, didn’t move my desk, coat rack, and broke my bookshelf.
Desired outcome: I want to have my $200 tip back. $160 in cash and $40 prepaid.
