emergency room
March I came to the emergency room from a fall it was hurting real bad and I wanted a xray I thought something felt wrong . It took so long but the dr said you sprain it as and after a couple of days I will feel better . He was wrong. I wasnt told the right thing . The middle of April I was still having trouble sleeping on that side still pain . I went to see a orthopedic Dr who show me the xray he took . I popped my arm out the socket doing physical therapy to get my motion back and now may 13 working on recovery. I felt if I saw a xray and was pointed out, he is a dr he should know better . I took a long trip to come to this hospital and it was a horrible experience. I am shocked I trusted this dr, I will never come back . I felt he should have directed me if he didn't know he was all about rushing me no see your dr or someone. I will not be back
behavioral health registration
"Behavioral health registration" on the 3rd floor in elmhurst hospital.
To who this may concern,
I am a home attendant who is here monthly. And I have noticed that the line is never shorter than one entire hour. Due to the clerks hanging out, talking, or even blatantly taking their time. I feel terrible for the patients who visit this floor who are majority mentally impaired and have to wait on those awful lines to speak to someone who more than often has an attitude. It's very unprofessional and they always seem to have an excuse when I've addressed it. I hope this message reaches the correct person. As I've googled the complaints department.
Thank you kindly,
Mimi

The receptionist in the outpatient rehab gym (D2-16) hispanic ethnicity / probably Dominican- she sits in the front seat of the entry way of this office- she refused to give me her name as she only wanted me to speak to her direct report - my mother is a hispacinwomen who does not speak fluent English- numerous times she come to pT with my aunt (who doesn't speak English ) and her approach is expremelyndismissive. Working in a hospital whom attends /assist patient with or with our insurance she should be well versed in her interaction with patients. - her attitude should not be extremely dismissive or rude; it took me to come in with my mother address this issue which is super upsetting in my end. I did speak to the supervisor on duty- did not retrieve her name either. But I wanted to ensure that this problem has been addressed and will be taken care of as my mother has been a patient of elmhurst hospital for over 8'years! It's extremely upsetting to come in and see the service provided in this hospital- we understand thenthere are location whom are trying to assist everyone- however if this is not a place for her to work in and service every one with the right attutude - then maybe this location in particular is it for her. My aunt came in a couple of weeks ago to inquire about my mother's Pt sessions and she was super aggressive and rude. My aunt made a complaint on the first fooor for the hospital. I just want to ensure that this issue is being addressed and taken care of- as a worker of the city we are receptive to feedback and willing to work and treat everyone equally. I hope this issue is taken care of and that this lady whom refused to give me her name changes her attitude.
sonogram
My name is Margaret Watkins, 35 years old. I went for a sonogram on my 19 weeks pregnancy on the 5th floor last Friday, July 6th 2018 at 9:20 am was my scheduled time. As soon as i was called by the sonogram tech, i told her that I dont want to know the gender of my baby because we will be celebrating a gender reveal the following Sunday. I told her that no one in my family must not know and if she could put the result in the envelope because that would go straight to the bakery. Unfortunately the result was just a sonogram without specifying if it's a girl or a boy and the bakery did not even called us back and decided to put a yellow filling inside. It was a horrible feeling and very embarrassing on my part. I don't want to write this complain but this incident still bothers me until now. Please next time tell all your sonogram technicians to put the gender in words because not everybody can read an ultrasound image.
nursing care
First, I'm a RN in another NY hospital. Seen my uncle who has (dementia and Parkinson) the night of June 9th on the 6th floor. I found out he did not eat anything for the day. When I asked the nurse, she replied, "well we can't force him to eat". I called for the on-call MD, took an hour for him to arrive, no explanation except that his beeper wasn't working, in other lay man terms he was either asleep or seeing a "friend" at that time. I informed him and the RN that my uncle's R/R was 60, HR-103. They were not too concerned and I received from the nurse a "well he has Parkinson, its going to look like 60 but actually is less". I don't understand what she meant by that, I don't think any RN in the worked will understand that, but nevertheless, I asked for the nursing supervisor and the RN said, "they won't do anything" and did not call. I adjusted the NC, it was half off (it was at 5 L), and 40 minutes later RR was at 30. I just don't understand the level of competency of our hospitals these days. what happen? I asked if I can call later and see how he is doing, I received "we can't do that, its HIPPA violation". Oh God, if I'm ever in this hospital just pull the plug. He was subsequently transferred to a nursing home a few days later, however, he was not received. Nursing home stated they could not received him as he needed emergency care. He is now in Jamaica Hospital ICU, being intubated. I state again, how was it that Elmhurst Hospital did not see any of this, while an outside RN within seconds seen a potential problem arising. Hopefully, it may not be too late for my uncle and countless of others while receiving "care" at Elmhurst Hospital.
staff member
third floor wing e-01 or e-011 billing, there is a lady named Damaris. first she scream NNNeeexttt as if we are animals or something, later while looking at her cell she said what do u need, I gave her a bill that was sent to me she looked, ohh ya gotta go to a-117. I said but..., no no they will take care of it. my second attempt I said I just came from there and they send me here, ohhh she screams to her supervisor I guess "they sent him here" give me your insurance card information so I can look, evidently she did not read the statement when I first gave it to her other wise she would it found all the information there. so the complaint I want to make is the type of service that this individual is providing, mistreating us left and right, treating us like ping pong balls, screaming as if she was talking to her daughters or something, not doing her job properly. If I dont raise my voice she would it have sent me back to wing a-119. so I stood there for a while and she did the same thing to other non english speaking person. I dont know who is supervising Damaris and if she is allow to scream when she calls the next client. absolutely no manners at all and more concentrated on her cell phone, she told me write here in a blank piece of paper how much you make IN ENGLISH!. this bad experience took place around the week of april 16 at 1pm
intensive care surgery department
On 1/28/18 my husband T Rocco received surgery. I received a text message for where he was in surgery which was great. However when he went to recovery and I went to check on him the nurses were extremely rude. My husband requested ice chips his first nurse said ok walked away and never came back. To find out she wasn't the nurse like she said she it was another nurse. So I asked her for Ice chips for my husband and she gives me attitude saying if he asks me I will give him. I said he is asking. Then she kicked me out, then they never told me they moved him out of recovery and had to find out myself where they moved him. AWFUL service for the family of the patient. On top of the fact you couldnt ask for a blanket without them looking annoyed.
emergency room and labs
On January 8th, I took my wife Suzan, to the E.R at Elmhurst Hopital, after a serious fall in the kitchen. She has been seeing different doctors about leg weakness, fatigue and balance issues. While there they did examnine her and did an MRI .She did say that her side hurt and had a cut on her arm.The doctor said that the MRI showed nothing, so a nurse came in and put a bandage on her arm.We were hurried out of the room so they could examine a sick child. While my wife was getting dressed, I asked for a wheelchair because we had a long walk to the parking lot, and it was very hard for my wife to walk. Before we even made it out of the E.R., the poorly placed bandage came off of my wife's arm.We had to put on a bandaid when we got home. The following week, we saw Dr Collander at Elmhurst Hospital for her breathing issues. He thought there was a blood clot on her lungs. He had other patients"bumped" so she can get an MRI and blood tests done. The MRI showed no blood clot but did show broken ribs. The doctor also apologized that the hospital lost the blood tests. This is not acceptable.I never got s reply from weeks ago.

employee
I am in the 3rd floor waiting room waiting to visit my mom. There is an employee with brown scrubs sitting thereon her break. She is listening to loud rap music. The problem seems to be that that music is talking about sex and drugs, mean while there are toddlers in the room listening to all of this. Employee has to realize that she is at work, and she has to respect others next to her. She can go put or to a room alone and listen to what ever ahe wants. I recorded her and will send to hospital.
same bad experience happened to me wing e-01 the billing department, a lady called damaris was worried about her cell phone and not having eye contact while i was talking to her, i wonder who supervises this savages
nurse service
This complaint is about a nurse in the orthopedics dept on Tuesday 11/13. Her name is Orlene Crawford. She was rude and disrespectful.
Refering to me and my daughter she said: "Jesus Christ, are they deaf? They do not listen! I don't believe they were sitting here the whole time!" After waiting three hours to see the doctor without moving from the waiting area, the last thing I expected was to be treated like this. Unfortunately for her, I understand English and she thought I did not.
administrative service
My name is Carlos, I put it my case of workers' com for ( fracture of nose)on 01-10-2017, and after many appointments and sinus surgery the hospital charge all bills to my Medicaid and, I had sinus surgery on 05-26-2017.the doctor waited a letter and said that the surgery is not related with the case of workers' com.Him did that because he didn't asked to the insurance, WCB, and lawyer, he ruined my case of workers' com.after surgery on June I went to ask to the hospital and the person on charge told me that my case was cloused and asked me to signe again documents for opene my case again;I want to know: who and why they closed my case? without tell me anything.
hospital police lack hospitality
Hospital police (central operations) is very impolite and very rude. Police more often than not glare when they are asked questions and act is if they do not want to help. The questions being asked are pertinent to their line of work, so it is not as if they are simply being asked directions. I request better hospitality from the hospital police. There is no excuse for this type of rude behavior. They make Elmhurst Hospital feel unwelcoming.

bad service long wait, forgetful doctors
I took my 15 month old to emergency as she was crying with pain and then we waiting 2 hours in the waiting area after registration at the reception mind you there were only 4 people ahead of us. After being called inside we waited in the room for another half house before the doctor came inside the room. His name of daniel jose ibanez, he diagnosed my doctor with just a bad rash and took our pharmacy information and prescribed cortisone cream, next day when I went to pharmacy there was no prescription sent when I called the emergency care to check doctor ana a very rude nurse spoke to me calling me mami mami like what the hell are you a doctor or a lady at the fruit stand because I am not even spanish she told me she can't do anything about it as doctor didn't write any notes regarding what was diagnosed or prescribed she has no idea about anything. She was the worst person ever didn't apologise and just made up [censor] and kept saying oh I can't do anything. It's a very irresponsible team that you have there I had to pay for something that was not done by the doctors. How could you be doctor in emergency care and forget to put your notes and prescriptions. Ridiculous experience and staff
elmhurst hospital - beyond pitiful
After being attacked, on the subway, and having suffered various blows to the head and face, head trauma, and showing obvious signs of a concussion, I was taken by ambulance to Elmhurst, a pathetic joke of a hospital. I was left to linger for hours in a hallway, and was never seen by anyone. I finally told someone I was leaving. They told me I could ask someone at information for directions to the subway. Naturally, there was no one at the information booth to ask. I have been to hospitals in third world countries, and received better care. Elmhurst is a joke.
I stayed at the hospital for 9 hours and came back home with out getting checked out or any medication.
I had extreme abdominal pain at night. So I went to the hospital to get checked out at 9:30pm. My husband and I stayed at the hospital for 9 whole hours. But I came back home at 5am without getting any sort of medication. None of the doctors or nurses seem to pay any sort of attention to me or my situation. I hate this hospital management. People who came after me got their medication before me. This system is very unfair to many patients who have been waiting for hours to get their turn with the doctor. I have come here many times with my children for their check up, but every time I came it always took at least 5 hours to get checked out. It might sound like I'm exaggerating but I'm not. This is a serious problem for many patients who come here to get medication. We come here because we trust our community services. But we can't tolerate this kind of behavior. When we come to get medication it's probably because of something serious. If it's something serious then we should properly get our medication and on time. I had to come back home after 9 hours and without any medication. That's not fare!
security officer behavior
Today was my second day at Elmhurst Hospital Center, and I dreaded passing by the security officer Dey who stands by the elevators on the main lobby.
On my first day at Elmhurst hospital, last Thursday, he spoke to me in a condescending manner when I asked him where to get my volunteer ID activated. Today, a week later, he shouted at me because my ID was covered under my scarf, and I passed by him looking down in order to avoid eye contact. I am sick of his condescending and hostile attitude.
I am debating whether or not to continue volunteering at Elmhurst Hospital, and if I quit he will be one of the reasons.
Was there today with my 2 years old son just to do the xray after 3 hours waiting no one call him so had to ask the supervisor why is it taking so long for xray he was not able to give me a explanation so I just left the hospital without doing it and I saw ppl were there for 4 to 5 hours waiting that is unacceptable..
the care and treatment of patients
Patients suffering in pain wait a long time for nurses to administer pain medication. When you ask them for help with anything, they tell you, "oh, just give me a couple of minutes", those minutes turn into hours. The beds are nothing more than devices of torture, especially for patients with severe arthritis. Then there is the food, I hate to even call that crap food!. It stinks, is not appealing visually, and tastes horrendous. More than half the time their so-called kitchen staff do not get a patients dietary requirements correct. Then some of patients medications are denied for this, that or the other thing. They often insist on using some other drug to treat a patient, and when that drug doesn't do what it is supposed to do, they keep trying. "If something doesn't work, why keep trying?".
I have come to the obvious conclusion that Elmhurst General, a NYC hospital is doing everything possible to prolong a patients stay, just so they can bilk Medicaid!. This hospital is a disgrace, and should be closed down immediately!.
