bad service
I asked for long layers and I got 20-30 different lengths that were all uneven. My 8 year old daughter told me they were uneven and I told the stylist, she told me no they are all even. She did not dry my hair, It was not until I went home and blow dried and straightened my hair that i realized *** chopped up my hair looked. my husband had to pay a second salon to repair my haircut. I wanted 1/2 inch off I ended having to get 1 1/2 inches off…so much for fantastic sams!…
awful experience
i was recently in the carolina commons calabash store a few days ago when i experienced a terrible haircut. i noticed that carla the manager had no concern as to what was going on with her stylist. either way for the store to have just opened not even a month you would think to have a qualified manager in there over seeing the stylist making sure that all services were going well instead she was more concern with putting on lipstick and brushing the lint off of her pants.
WOOOOW nevertheless one of the other stylist had to call it to her attention and then the stylist told her that she would assist. Fantastic Sams what kind of business are you guys running. POOR Management is all around that place whats going to happen when one of the stylist makes a wrong color decision she cant help hell she doesnt even have license to do hair.my business will go else where and it will be known to all of my friends!
bad haircut and color
I went to Fantastic’s Sams for a haircut and color. I wanted red hair with a few blond highlites cost $80. The stylist got the color all wrong and messed up the haircut. I started to complain about it and she blew me off. I wasn’t feeling well after breathing all the fumes so I left. I returned the following week to show her that color had washed out and the highlights were now a violet color. I had also bought and used their brand color protect shampoo and conditioner.
Another stylist redid it and also straighten out the cut. I noticed she did not leave the color on very long and she said she was suppose to have left work by now. I got home and there was dried colorant in my hair. Color washed out of my hair for days. My hair was extremely dry. It had been very soft before the coloring. The color faded so badly that it was only left in the hair about 2 inches from the scalp. I went in and told the manager that I wanted a refund.
My hair was damaged and looked horrible. She said no and that they did not give refunds and wasn’t very nice at all. I simply didn’t want them to touch my hair anymore! I was definately ripped off.

save yourself time and nerves and stay away from them
My 92 year old Mom wanted a Permanent in her hair for Christmas. I took her to Fantastic Sams located at 1524 W. University Blvd. in Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, December 19, 2009. I was surprised that we could walk right in and get a perm immediately, no appointment, no waiting. That should have been a warning to me.
The hairdresser was J. Washington. I asked that he give Mom a “curly” perm and he showed me two rod sizes and asked which one I wanted used. He wanted to use the larger white ones “To avoid frizz” but I chose the smaller gray ones for she wanted an easy care hairdo with lots of curls.
He wet her hair, but did not shampoo it, in preparation for the perm. After the perm was finished he prepared to cut her hair and I told Mr. Washington that I was not a hairdresser so I needed his advise about the cut…please tell me whether or not a blunt-cut, with the hair length to come to the bottom of her ears, would give us the desired curly style. He assured us that it would, however, when finished he had left her hair somewhat longer than we had asked. We did not complain.
By the next morning it was obvious that the Perm did not take at all, Mom’s hair was poker straight, so on Monday morning we went back in the shop. We had attended a family Christmas Party on Sunday, and everyone was shocked to learn she had spent the day before in the beauty shop.
There were two different operators in the shop and they looked up Mom’s records and said that Mr. Washington “Must have done something wrong with that perm.” It was finally decided that perhaps he should have shampooed her hair before Perming it.
Both operators said that they would RE-DO Mom’s hair for her. They did, this time using tiny PINK rods, to get the desired CURL. As Mom was finished and getting out of the chair a woman who claimed to be the “MANAGER” (name unknown) came storming into the shop in an agitated state and confronted me saying “THIS PERM IS NOT GOING TO BE FREE, ” and that I was going to pay “FULL PRICE FOR THE SECOND PERM”
She claimed that I had “Asked for the grey rods” and that I had “Asked for the blunt-cut.”
Neither claim is correct. Somehow, according to her, this was supposed to be the reason the Perm did not take in Mom’s hair.
The only reason I allowed them to Re-Perm Mom’s hair is because they had indicated to us that they would make the first perm good because Mr. Washington must have done something wrong for her hair to look like that.
Before I could get out of that shop this “Manager” embarrassed both me and my Mom and been very verbally abusive….she had called me both a liar and a thief.
When I went to the front desk to pay AGAIN for this perm so I could get out of there, this “Manager” came stomping up to me and demanded in a loud voice “YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING TO WALK OUT WITHOUT PAYING ME, DON’T YOU?”
On Saturday I paid $55.00 for the Perm and on the following Monday I paid $45.00 for the second Perm.
no refund
I have done home perms my whole life.
The week before Christmas I decided to "pamper myself" and get a professional perm.
I told the stylist in Shiloh, IL only two things: "My hair takes curl very easily" AND "My hair has to stay one length from the top to the back because I had radiation therapy (cancer treatment) 25 years ago and the hair doesn't grow on the back of my head/neck."
When I got done with the perm, she cut tons of hair because the ends of my hair didn't take the perm and were completely straight.
She did cut the hair into layers, even though I had stated that I didn't want it cut.
Today I went back to show them how fried/awful my hair looks. They refused to refund my money ($65) and offered to give me a "conditioning treatment."
I told them I didn't want them to do anything else to my hair. That I had to wear a Santa hat the whole week of Christmas -- and that my hair is the laughing stock of my family.
The manager simply refused to refund my money.
I WANT A REFUND! -- and I will never return to Fantastic Sams. AND I don't have to tell people how bad it is -- they just look at my hair. My hair has not been this short since I had chemo and radiation. It will be 6 months before I can even try to curl it.
BAD, BAD job. I would like a REFUND. I would be happy to send photos to the corporate office of "before" and "after."
never again!
Karen at 8157 State Ave KCK 66112 was the stylist that did my childs haircut. I had a conversation with the stylist and the receptionist about the childs hair needing to be cut from hanging in her face. The stylist proceeds and tries to keep the style the child had I told the stylist that I didnt care about the style. The stylist told me that she will have to many lengths if she cuts her hair anymore. I told her that she need the hair out of her face if we dont cut it she will continue to have it in her eyes. The stylist told me that "me and the child need to have better communication". The child is only 13, clearly I'm the adult so I told her to cut it out her eyes. The stylist was getting irritated and so was I. While the stylist and I we went back and forth the other stylist did not interject and it was clearly unproffesional. All I asked was the hair out of her eyes the stylist told me that "I should have made that clear with her". After all this she didnt shampoo or condition her hair like the coupon read. I left upset my child is unhappy with her hair and I will not be returning. Thanks Karen and crew !

they treat employees and customers bad
I used to work for a Fantastic Sam's Salon. They treat employees bad and they treat customers bad, as well. They violated State Board rules and regulations continually. They took unauthorized money from my paycheck.
When I complained about it, they told me it was for insurance. I never received proof of insurance. No card, no ID, no papers, nothing. After I complained about it, the owner started being a real B**** about the whole thing. I went to the State Board and complained, and wrote to the parent company. She fired me in retaliation. Never go there again!
bad customer service
I went to get a haircut for my son and used a $5 gift card. The stylist/ manager (Becky) gave me an attitude when she saw that gift card even making a comment to another stylist saying we might as well be giving it for free. I believe that the best customer is a repeat customer and I will never return to that salon again.

terrible manager/ customer service
The manager gave me an attitude when I tried to use a $5 gift card. A child's haircut was $11.95 and with that card it came out to be $6.95. She made a remark to another stylist saying we might as well be giving it for free. She treated me like a second class citizen. I told her that the best customer is a repeat customer and I will not be returning.
best hack hair style in town
I took my 10 year old daughter to Fantastic Sams hair salon today 4/22/2011, with a precise clear picture of a hair style. Her hair was long and beautiful 1 length down to her back, the picture was very clear, and I explained to the hair dresser Bonny before the service that I wanted it shaped to her face, with soft layers, towards her face keeping the...

Read full review of Fantastic Sams Cut & Colornot so fantastic
I wanted my hair returned to my natural color with added highlights...the Fantastic Sams in So Pasadena, Fl was the worst cosmetic experience of my life...I spent $135 (not much money) but my time and the condition of my hair afterward is beyond any monetary consideration. I had to go to the "salon" on 5 different occasions totaling 15 hours of my time because of incompetence (they turned my hair green), lack of product (after 4 trips they didn't have the color "in stock" to highlight my hair) and general lack of professionalism (the last trip they over-processed the bleach and so totally ruined my hair that most of it had to be cut off). If anyone is considering "cheap" hair procedures they would be better off going to a beauty school in their area as at least the novices of hair care in those salons are supervised by instructors as opposed to the "beauty school graduates" employed by Fantastic Sams who forgo customer service for customer volume thereby ruining both their clients hair and customer base...if you care about your hair don't go there!
horrible stylist
I made an appt with Fantastic Sams to get my hair dyed and cut. I made the appt for the wrong Fantastic Sams and did not realize it till I went to the wrong salon. So I drove over to the one I had the appt at.
I worked with a lady named Cheryl. OMG did I make the biggest mistake EVER. I should have canceled my appt at the Salon off 46 and went to the one I usually go to.
This lady was so sloppy dying my hair. She got it on my arms and the magazine I was reading. Her gloves with the dye were touching my eyes, like who does that …..
After that was done she started the hair cut. I asked for an inch off she took 2 inches off my hair. I was almost in tears watching this go down. She cut my hair with a middle part and I never part my hair in the middle.
I ended up complaining to the salon manager and she offered to fix it. I went in two days later and had it fixed. The color did not blend in at all and thankfully the manager smoothed it out. She even had to clean up my layers since the other stylist totally messed it up.
I will NEVER go back to the one of Hwy 46 again. Even though I get a free haircut, I will stay away and so will all the people I know!
ex employee
CENTRAL FLORIDA ex employee worked for 18+ mths. These up-sell chain salons are only good for new grads trying to get some experience. Do Not Seek Out Employment Here If You Want To Make Money. The salon I was at was run by a bitter old witch that ridiculed her patrons and staff alike. The owner was a balding old man that was otherwise known as The Grabby Uncle Fester. I sued. Lost. Go to a private salon... they care about their reputation more... and the stylist as well. Oh, wait... if you have a reletive working in management at FS, you"ll be ok...

jacked up my hair
I was in the market to locate a salon with a stylist I can trust. I loved my hair and the length (before Contessa). I explain to Contessa that I wanted my hair to continue to grow out and that I did not want all my hair cut off. She not only cut all my hair off, but what few pieces I have left is uneven. Apparently my hair is jacked up. My husband who spoke with her earlier is just as disappointed as I am. I explained to Contessa that it took a long time for my hair to have grown the length it was because of hypothyroidism. I am very Disappointed and ashamed.
people still go to Fantastics Sams...
unsatisfactory service
I am very disappointed in the way that Fantastic Sam's changed their schedules and employees. I go every Thursday to get my hair done and even with four people waiting for them to open up at 9 am they only have two employees. The other two people either have to wait for an hour or come back and by that time more customers have come in. Very bad service compared to what it used to be. I will try another Fantastic Sam's in the future and if I find it is run the same way I will find another salon. When Janissa was the manager everything went smoothly. I understand she is on maternity leave, and hope it improves when she returns. Thank you for listening and hopefully you will change your ways.
nothing fantastic about fantastic sams
I have never been so dissappointed in a hair salon in all my life. I went in and inquired about the cost to color my hair. They told me $69.99 to start. REALLY, I thought this was supposed to be discounted, that is more expensive than my regular salon. I thought I would at least try out the hair cut. With signs all over the salon touting the free scalp massage and shampoo with every cut, I thought that might be worth the trip. Well all I got was spritzed on. You got it...they did not even wash my hair before cutting it. Then she she did about 10 cuts and said she was done. She did not even check to make sure the back was straight. And then she asked "Is that okay?" and did not even offer a mirror for me to see. Is that what is passing for customer service today? Well I would rather NEVER get my hair cut again than spend one more penny at Fantastic Sams ...There is NOTHING fantastic about it. Don't waste your money.
awful haircuts
I visited the Ashburn, VA location of this salon 5/22 just to get a trim. I had already made an appointment for a stylist, and I admit that I was about 10 minutes late, so I wasn't upset about waiting 10 more minutes myself for the stylist that had already been assigned to me to finish up with her client. She finally called me back and sat me in a chair. I explained that I was trying to grow out my hair and had gotten a bad layering job from another salon, so I only wanted 1/2 inch taken off of my back ends to start evening out my length with my shorter sides. She started cutting my hair, and I noticed that she was lopping off an inch instead of a half inch, and she started chopping 1/2 inch from the sides that I had not told her to cut. I asked what she was doing, and she claimed that she was evening everything out, and needed to cut off more than what I told her to make my hair even. Like a fool, I trusted that she would make my hair look good, so I went home and dried and straightened my hair. To my horror, my shoulder length hair was now barely below my chin, and my left sides were 1/2 inch shorter than my right sides!
The salon was already closed by then, so the next day, I called and requested that they fix my hair, and expressed anger about them cutting to much off. I told them that I needed a highlighting job, and said that if they could give me a discount on highlights for the crappy job they had done for my cut, I would get that done. The secretary told me to come by at 2pm that day to arrange that with the highlight stylist, Jenna. I came by a little bit after 2, and showed the receptionist my shorter left side. She remarked that both sides looked to be the same length, but said that the manager would fix them anyways. The stylist that ended up cutting my hair claimed that the sides were not uneven, that one seemed shorter because of the way that I had my part. She took a little bit off of my right sides, but still left them longer than the left side, even though she claimed that it was because of my part. When they were done, I waited a few minutes to speak with the highlighting stylist. She came out and told me that they would not offer me any discounts, as they had "fixed" my hair without charging me, so I should basically be grateful for that. She then told me that I would have to come back next week to get highlights done. I walked out the door of that place forever. I don't give my money to places that do as little as possible to please customers, that cut off more than I ask for, and that don't even notice one side being 1/2 inch longer than the other side (which shouldn't have been cut to begin with, but the stylist didn't care about what I wanted-she cut it the way that she liked it). And even worse, they make me come in to the salon to talk with the stylist when they knew that it would be too late to make an appointment with her...and refused to give any type of discount that they had been hinting about agreeing on when I had spoken with them on the phone at 11:00 that morning. I will not come back there again until they figure out hot to cut hair, please their customers, and give their customers what they ask for.
this is not resolved yet
I will never go back to this fantastic sams again
Fantastic sams in shepherdsville, kentuck. i had several horrible experiences. a bipolar stylist gave me a perm, barely washed the hair, only put on a quarter of the perm, failed to wrap my head with cotton before applying perm chemical, thre a towrl at my face, the tried to rip me off whgen i went to pay, tried to overcharge me. danniel was her name. i will never go back to this fantastic sams again.
past employee complaint
As a former employee of the Marinette location Fantastic Sams, I would just like to warn all potential applicants to get everything in writing. I was hired with a base rate of pay with the opportunity to make commission on $14.95 haircuts. Not only did I never make commission in the entire time I worked there, they lowered the haircut prices from day 1. Keep in mind that I had one of the top service sales in the area. At one point haircut prices were slashed below $9. In order to make commission I had to average more than 3 haircuts an hour! I have since left the company and have requested (in writing) for a copy of the company handbook and my personel file, only to recieve a copy of every request off form that I had turned in...however, no copy of my application, signed handbook, terms of hire, or any other papers which should have been in my file...so, be warned if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! FYI, it took almost 3 weeks to get a copy of my nonexsistant file...you would think the termination papers wouldve been in there too.

I went into Fantastic Sams in Moorpark last Thursday (week before Thanksgiving)and had my hair cut and colored by Gail. The color wore off in two shampoos. I went back today to show that all my roots are brassy and look awful. Gail said that I wanted my hair red (where did she get that?I have very dark brown hair.) and that's how it colors grey. She said she would charge me the full amount to fix it. I left very unhappy. Lousy service. Lousy job. I want my money back.
Also, After 34yrs. of working in the hair business, 20 yrs. owning my own salon. What a way to end my career.
This is true.. I was fired for "No Cause" I worked there for 4 yrs. And was employee of the STATE twice. I fought them and won. It took a judge, but I did get my unemployment. My savior, was I was written up two times without knowing it. Unfortunate for them, it was right after I found out I had breast cancer, and the next one was 2 days after my first chemo-treatment. What a crap place to work for.
I am a now former employee of Fantastic Sams salon in Fort Wayne, IN of which is owned by Sarah and Johnny Gatton. I had worked there over a year and was trying to take my vacation according to the handbook. In that it states that if you are full time that you are supposed to get 35 hours of vacation. If you are part time, you are supposed to get your average hours worked during the year. I would think that would mean from your start date to your anniversary. They told me that it was from the year prior to when I took the vacation. I was prevented from taking it when my annual came around. At which time I was entitled to get at least 30 hours. Then I was transferred to their other salon. I kept my second date that I requested and then got less time given to me. About 8 hours. If the vacation is not given until it is feasible for their operation it should still be given for the hours your averaged your anniversary to anniversary. So, apparently they worked the handbook to work in their favor of which it doesn't clearly state. It is so vague you can't prove what it is supposed to mean. Sarah handles all the goings on in the salons and treats her employees like they are idiots. She shorted my paychecks two prior times and expects perfection at all times when it comes to the handbook. Sarah wants to write stylists up if they don't make production per hour but if she can't meet her own qualifications she shouldn't be able to enforce them. Just like the prior stylist complaint, the hair cut prices were slashed to prevent us from making the required quota. Kids cuts were reduced from 10.95 to 4.95. Sarah Gatton has been confronted by other stylist that have been fired and always feels she's right about everything. She can't be right all the time. In one full year of working there 17 people had been gone from one location of which 12 were fired. Does everyone think that Sarah Gatton is so full of herself that she can so easily replace people with better employees when the ones she has are bringing in regular clients? Side note to the uninformed. My wife, a generous person, has been upset by the informed who continually worship money. She only expected what is normal. Sarah, Johnny, and Fantastic Sams are the epitome of the ruse of the elite and government. Shame on SARAH and JOHNNY and this virile company called FANTASTIC SAMS. They take advantage, not because they are ignorant, but because Americans are lazy butts and they love it. We are not crying out, nor seeking any one's sympathy. Have you a soul, end FANTASTIC SAMS CAUSE TODAY. DO NOT PATRONIZE THE PRIVILEDGED, but give fortitude to the trustworthy. JOHNNY AND SARAH GATTON ARE REPROBATES.
I had my haircut Jan. 5 by Denise at the flamingo location. Her service was really horrible she's a total ###. She will treat you like crap and her haircut is uneven. Never asked for her. That freaking old lady is the worse hairstyles I have ever met. I will never go back to that fantastic Sam's outlet ever again.
