I joined gym in September, signed up for Retreat, which is suppose to be all inclusive. The tanning beds had half the bulbs blown and fans were clogged up with dust..I was afraid of a fire or shock while in the beds. I informed different personnel about it. They gave me the runaround about it not being "Gold's" responsiblity to maintain beds. Found out they weren't even the level of beds that we were promised. This went on for a month. Left several messages for the manager and the owners. They never called back. I finally caught the manager in the gym one day and talked with him about it. He gave me the same BS. I told him I would stop paying my dues and stop using the facility and when he got beds fixed to call me and I would start paying dues and fulfill my contract. He said he would ruin my credit and that the beds would get fixed when they got fixed and there is nothing to be done about it. Ok...I was pissed but I paid my dues and waited It took from mid November to last week of December to get beds fixed. Then the steam room kept being shut down. It went down four weeks ago. They are lying about when that will be fixed. I was told tonight by next week...they said that two weeks ago. I was on phone with husband complaining when a potential customer overheard me. She looked concerned. I explained to her that she should be cautious about signed the contract and make sure to question all their policies and especially about the maintenance protocol. The manager approached me in front of other Gym employees and told me that he would NOT allow me to talk to other customers and that I would need to leave. I was so embarrassed. I couldn't believe it thought it appropriate behavior to "assault" me that way. I left with hands shaking I was so mad. I went to auto parts store...got me window marker and now I ride around with the following: "DON'T JOIN GOLDS GYM...ASK ME WHY' I have already had several people approach me. I also sent a letter to the South Carolina Attorney General's Office and to Gold's Gym. I will be seeking "talking" to other customers and seeking a petition to send to an attorney. Think a class action lawsuit forcing Gold's Gym (Aiken) to change their "cheating, lying" ways. Wish me luck.

Cold's is now under new management, and they are great! Sorry about your experience. I am a group fitness instructor at Golds and understand your frustration with the old management, but they are gone now. Best Wishes!

I could not agree more! Golds gym in aiken sc is a huge JOKE! Even with the new management nothing has changed. I have had multiple amounts taken out of my bank account, several times. There has been multiple car break ins in the back parking lot, and when I am told to park there I simply ask if golds is responsible I get a no and they will apologize if it happens. They use these members money to pay teenagers to "direct" traffic through the parking lot, and they can't even do that right! They just ride a golf cart around and play on their cell phones and walkie-talkie radios, that I'm pretty sure the manager didn't mind supplying. I pay just the same as everyone else that's a member, I don't see myself no better than the next person. but I am still a paying customer no matter how much or how less I pay for this gym. I don't pay to get treated like I'm crap or to work out on crap. No need to have any complaints heard at golds gym in aiken cause I have yet to see the manager at the gym because apparently from what I'm told from this rude staff they have, he only comes in ONCE a week. I am a manager of 2 businesses and I come in everyday. I am on call 24/7! I would love to get paid a weeks worth of salary for " working" one day out the week! Also the manager has hired a fat ex school coach who calls himself the gym rules enforcer! What has he enforced? Nothing. Members still wear jeans to work out, which tears up the seats on the equipment, members are still dropping equipment and slamming the weights. This equipment here is already falling apart, why not enforce management to fix golds equipment. I have finally taken my business else where, but the way these people at golds gym treat their customers will cause them just like me to leave and find a better gym. GOOD managers know that customers are no. 1. If it wasn't for the members, there wouldn't be any paychecks. So when a petition does come available I will be the first to sign! But more members will find out how crooked golds gym is...especially when they need to complain or can't work on their favorite machine because its been broken for a week.

I would agree my wife and i was at golds in aiken 3/7/2011 working out on a stepper when the lights were turned off on us.We didnt know why so we asked one of the girls that worked what was going on she said this section closses at ten .Well no one tells you that half of the gym closes at ten they say there open twenty four hours. It was ten till ten so we figured we would just finish up we onley had 3 min. left .Then out of no where this guy pops up and says you have to leave this area now it closes at ten so we said we onley have 3 min.left and its ten till ten.Well he says no you'll leave now we let him know that the other steppers were broke on the other side .His reply was thats not my problem take it up with management i dont care.Well the next day my wife went to the gym and other employees said this guy talks to them and other members the same way.Later that day she finally got to talk to a manager and he said he would look into the matter. Now three days later they are still looking into the matter and the guy told a differnt story. All we wanted was an apoligy but the manager just keeps giving us the run around i guess they just dont care about there members after they get your money. And yea most of the time half the equipment is broke for weeks at a time.

I have experienced nothing but hardship in dealing with Golds Gym in Utah. I have tried to communicate sensibly with them on their terrible gym maintenance and sanitary issues. I to have terminated my payments to them, and they have unleashed the dragon of collection against me even though I have written them several times and spent hours trying to contact them unuccessfully. By their protocall they ignore your many attempts to contact them or just disconnect you. I have wasted hours in their phone games. The one time I got to talk on the phone with them, they said they were not required to keep their facilities in working order, and that whether or not their facilities were suitable, it did not negate my obligation to pay them. She was actually that blatant and cocky about their rights to collect regardless of their lack of performance. And if you read their contracts there is nothing which lists their obligations to the contract. It is such a unilateral contract it appears to be illegal. I am seeking legal help in this matter as are thousands of others.

I strongly agree with everything that's been mentioned in both the letters above. Just today, 30 minutes ago I had an altercation with Mr. Larry Nelson, Operations of Managers of Golds Gym in Aiken which ended with my being escorted off the premises with a "No Trespassing Warning" having been given to me by the Aiken County Police officers, Davis # 624, and Hawlks # 547.
Friday night I visited Golds gym in Aiken to work out with my son and cousin for a bit. As I was trying to re-rack the 75lb dumb bells I had just finished using I lost my balance and smashed my pointer finger between the metal dumb bell and the metal rack. Very painful and a bloody mess. As I looked around I noticed that the incident could have been avoided if there wasn't 7 pairs of dumb bells just hanging out all over the place therefore making the area unsafe. I also noticed that there wasn't any place to re-rack those dumb bells because all the racks were full. As I returned to the gym Monday morning 10a.m. to work out I noticed that the same unsafe condition existed in front of the dumb bells. As I began my work out upon re-racking the weights I had the same difficulty. Then I noticed that another person stumbled over those loose weights while carrying a pair of 85lbs. I went up to the front desk and asked the receptionist Ms. Victoria if I could possibly speak to a manager who could address the situation and make that area safer for all of us. After 35 minutes Mr. Larry appeared on the floor. He came over and explained to me the reason for the safety hazard which was because they had extra weights and did not have any racks in which they could be stored properly. I suggested to him that it might be better for them to remove the 7 pairs (14 ) free rolling dumb bells off the floor to ensure a safe work out environment for people until they were able to provide a rack for them. Mr. Larry came over to the area in which I was referring to and told me that there wasn't anything that he was going to do about the situation and that if I didn't like it then I could leave. I told him that I paid my monthly fee to Golds Gym and that it is their responsibility to make this gym as safe as they could for each and every member who visits here. Mr.Larry was persistent on causing a scene as I walked away from that area to continue with my work out. He approached me and told me that he wanted me to leave. I asked him why. And asked him if it was because I raised an issue of safety which should concern each and every one of us. He then insisted that I leave as I told him that I was not going to leave. He then asked me for my name. I told him that I scanned my badge and that any information he needed he should be able to obtain from that. He told me again that he wanted me to leave and he went into the office to contact Aiken County Police. Other customers present came over to me and apologized to me for Mr. Larry's belligerence and unbelievable actions and thanked me for my concern for their safety. The Aiken County police officer Mr.Davis in speaking with me stated that he knew for a fact that I was telling the truth as 5 other lieutenants from the Aiken County police dept had been asked to leave Golds gym for similar pathetic reasons as presented in both of these letters. I think that a class A lawsuit should be filed against its owners as they do not hold up to their contractual agreement and this is disgraceful. [protected] J Evans

I wonder if Mr. Larry is the meat head manager that taped a nasty note with very sticky tape on my windshield when I was visiting Golds Gym in Aiken SC (old white haired man). It said something about members could not park in that spot and to read the sign (guess he thought I was a member). He announced over the intercom in the gym for the owner of ...my car to come to the front desk. When he found out I was visiting he didn't bother to apologize or remove the note. Other managers there are rude too and about as bright as a 2 watt light bulb.

As a former employee of an etablishment based inside Gold's Gym, I can attest to the fact that Gold's Gym Aiken is a filthy gym run by lazy individuals and in particular Larry Nelson is hands down the rudest and most passive aggressive man I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. This gym will rob your money and is simply not worth the crap you have to put up with

I used to like this gym but now I fear for my safety, other members and my child. This last year I have witnessed non members being allowed in the gym to track down paying members during their workouts to threaten them physically, over personal vendettas...on atleast 2 occasions. I have been a member at several gyms over the years and have never witnessed this. It is shocking to me the amount of unprofessionalism and immaturity displayed by the staff...mostly the younger women employed there. Also the staff members send pictures and videos of Golds video surveillance out to non memebers and members letting them know when to come in to the gym to harass and threaten individuals. Management was informed of this going on but it continues and he staff is very rude and immature. I am a Mother and will most likely not be renewing my membership because I fear for my child's safety if I were to ever take them to Aiken Golds.

Golds gym Aiken = joke 2 give u heartburn. Do not sign anything. Lady told me I could quit ay anytime for any reason. Now collections calls me daily. Gym would not return phone calls. Gym is run by children. Corporate will drive u nuts. They are resisting my exit but they will suffer litigation due to misrepresentation. I will cost them thousands in litigation bills as my best friend is a top flight civil litigator. Let the games begin. I will do anything legal to spread the word about the corrupt nature which is golds culture. Possibly rent out some billboards explaining the truth. They will regret crossing my path. With zeal I will win. I may sue for harassment. Bankruptcy n foreclosure r nothing compared to these overzealous miscreants. Do not ever sign anything w them. They r worse than Internet scammed. They r crooks. Plainly stated. They pushed the wrong dude. Corporate barely speaks English. Worse the credit card mafia...

Find any other gym. It will save ur soul n ban account
