bad service
5920 Carolina Beach Rd # 160, Wilmington
Salon was having a deal for 5.99 hair cuts. I went to get my hair cut and the lady that cut my hair was very strange in the conversations we had. She started off asking me what I put on my facebook, then proceeded to tell me that people were writing mean things about her on facebook. I ignored her, I just wanted my haircut. After that she kept talking about how she was afraid and kept looking at the door, the other ladies in the salon told her to stop talking about it. After that, she just got quieter and proceeded to tell me that men were coming into the salon to video tape her, then she had the nerve to look at me in the mirror and ask me if I had something to do with it. She made me feel very uncomfortable. I got my hair layered and I asumed it would take at least 15 minutes. It took her 5 minutes! Her station was not swept and I am asuming she didnt clean the rest of her station. When I got home I had hair all over me and I have no idea if it was even mine. I had to put my address in the computer and that makes me very uncomfortable, this lady actually thought I was there to do something bad to her. I will never go there again, and I am tempted to call the salon itself, but like I said, I am not comfortable even going back there and dont feel comfortable even giving them my name. I would like it if my information was taken out of their computer system. Please get back to me with something that you can do about this, because this lady was VERY VERY strange and I wouldnt even let her blowdry my hair, that is how uncomfortable she made me. I know her name because the other ladies were talking to her. If something can be done about this, I can give you more information. Thanks

no credit card refunds possible
Stylist at a Great Clips frnachise recommended a product and said satisfaction was guaranteed or return product for a full refund. Receipt clearly states Great Clips has a commitment to full satisfaction or refund. When I returned the product, they don't do credit card refunds. So, I'm out of luck. No one said that up front. I've emailed corporate and am notifying BBB, and the Consumer Protection Division at the State Attorney's office. I'm also emailing all my contacts, plus my 50+ female coworkers and asking them to forward my complaint to their contact lists. It's not a large amount, but they'll more than pay that amount in lost business and they'll have no one to blame but themselves.
I work for a Great Clips and your satisfaction is our guarantee. Sounds as if the employee did not know how to do a credit card refund. We do them in our salon. We require that the product had to be purchased in our salon and you have the receipt.
lice
For anyone out their planning on going to this place beware... This salon changes stylist like I change my socks, I have been going to the establishment since they opened in May 2010, since then their has been at least 20 stylist thru those doors. I had some great cuts and some horrible ones, the manager Penny is great and the 2 barbers you get them your in...

I will never take my chld to Asheboro Great Clips again! The girl who cut his hair (Sonia) was so rude to him I could not believe it! My child was almost in tears when we left and he is only 5 years old. The girl obviously has some sort of issue with cutting childrens hair since they won't be still the whole time, so why is she doing hair? If Great Clips wants to keep their future customers, they might want to do something about this rude girl! I'm done with going there myself...I have searched for a number to call but can't find one other than that location.. Wonder why? Somebody needs to know about her!
nice grammar!
I do have to agree with the comment above. I have been taking my children to the Asheboro Great Clips for years, as well as getting my own hair cut there. There use to be a manager named Michelle there who was wonderful. Recently my husband brought my kids to get their hair cut before school started, and they butchered both of my boys hair. A simple bowl cut, that even I myself could do if I had the time, was all hacked up and crooked around their heads. My husband insisted it was not right and he still had to pay for the cuts. When we complained to the manager and asked for our money back, she said she was the one who cut their hair and it was a bowl cut... but looked better blended in (or hacked up, depending on which point of view you saw it from). I had to call corporate office and complain to the owner, who took the managers side, but did give our money back anyway.
Luckily, the barber shop was able to fix both cuts, and luckily my daughter only got her bangs cut (which were crooked too. We will NEVER go back to that salon so long as they are running it the way they are. It is such a shame Michelle is not still there, she did a great job.
I dont understand why you let the mangers get way with all they do the great clips in Columbus ind is bad My daughter work there and i cant belive the things she dose then lie and you the owners belive her WHAT she put her 2 week noices in and they made her leave before her 2 weeks was up just on here say . And this lady still bugs her about things when she has tried to move on and she run her out os a asst. mangers job and didnt even tell her until the new one walked in and she is not a nice person so why would you think i would have anything good to say about Great Clips . Maybe the other stores are ok but the one here suck and she ran the other owner off and now she thinks she miss bad ### well she not and i think you need to check this out what a loser she is
Thank You
abusive franchisee
Attention all licenced stylist,
Do you like working for low pay, non set hours, no benefits, no holiday pay. no vacation pay, no two days off in a row
not knowing next weeks schedule till after 2:00 friday...having to submit time off in writing 2 WEEKS prior. Do you like working for
crackhead (drug addicted) MANAGERS whom are abusive and power tripping.
Time off usually is denied with daily repression by a camera watching FRANCHISEE
Do you like being harrased into to doing consultations (dancing around customers head with mirror)
Expected to perform ALL aspects of salon duties and give a haircut within 15 minutes(reguardless of incoming phone calls)
Then this is the place for you, work at GREAT CLIPS and you will have no life, forget creativity...just get the customers MONEY!
From my experience, this company (franchisee) will lower your self worth and not value the quality you may have within you.
Watch out for the 5 steps! This is a method in wich they use to control you and also use to againt you.
So fellow stylist, if you enjoy working in this envioroment ...be my guest ...give your talent away!

not true with me i started at $ 10.oo an hour and love my job the company has been great to me, the crazy hours you work would be in any salon we have to be there for the customer, the system is just to get you to do good customer service which you should do anyway, this job as a hairstylist is not for everybody!
Amen to that! Great Clips is not a franchise you would like to work long term. I was there for 2 years they started me at 7.50 an hour and after that I did not get a raise whats of ever because of this 5 step system. The people I worked for wanted you to give Hc in 14 min there is no receptionists unless there is a major Holiday coming up. They have all these crazy sales and they will work you to the bone. Also don't get sick you will have to find your own replacement, call your fellow stylists(who are overworked already) to come to work for you or call other stores. If you cant find nobody you will get written up( I am not making this up). They constantly want you to push products to costumers, you have to mention something to every costumer(Remember this is part of the 5 step system)After a while you will turn in to this robot with all your creativity zapped out of you. Ohh let see what else...They do frown on requests because if the costumer has to wait for you it shows on the computer, they keep track of everything on that thing. How long it took you to cut someones hair, how long it took you to take the next costumers, how may products you sold. They don't like you to request any days off and you will work pretty much every weekend . I know there is no perfect place to work but i did not got to beauty school to work in a accessibly line.
incompetent and rude
Just came out of a Great Clips in Chattanooga TN on Cummings Highway in Lookout Valley. Went in with hair to my butt, came out with 6 -15 inches less because they butchered me. Then got lied to and disrespected by both stylist and manager. They even refused to give a full refund. The hairstylist I had to go to afterwords was shocked at the damage done, and could do nothing to save the style other than say take prenatal vitamins and grow it out again. Beware of going in their stores, they will ruin your hair, lie to you, and keep your money, AND LAUGH ABOUT IT IN FRONT OF YOU.
unsatisfied
Terrible haircut! During this past weekend I had aterrible experience... My stylist didnt even greet me and ranked of alcohol and her eyes was blood shot... I did get her name till she was cuttin my eyebrow and was boom barded with her breath and her clevage that jus jumped out at me (Emilie).. I have been a loyal customer for years and was excite when yall finally built one closer and i didnt have to drive and hour to get to. I will not ever return to a great clips again... Find some stylist who respect there job and dont do drugs. I also noticed that her licence was not in view so she might not even be a licenced stlyist. I also know the state board heath inspector and yall will be getting a visit in a few weeks.. she jus had poor hygen issues and was very unprofessional.

former successful manager
Greatclips concept is great, but the franchisees do not follow the guidelines of the BRAND NAME to be successful. I came back to Greatclips full time, as a manager June 26th 2009. This year 2010, I achieved 5 records weeks and was $100 dollars short from making another record week 10/1/2010. I went into work 10/5/2010, only to be terminated. Terry crow...

I worked as a stylist at Great Clips in Georgia. Within a year of my employment, the theft ring within the salon(crackheads and drunken stylist)stole my diamond ring out of my purse. Three months after I filed the report the police department claimed I waited to long. I later learned the manager had a family member who owned a pawn shop. They all had worked this game for a long time. Small town crooks running long term schemes. A frequent customer informed me about other stylist and customer jewelry that turned up missing but never reported.
You could file a lawsuit against those employees (not the company as they are not responsible for stolen posessions (no company is)), but I see that the police stated you waited too long. Sorry to hear it.
poor & rude customer service
We visited the Exton PA Great Clips location today being a repeat customer of many years, we expected great service from the staff members, unfortunately today was a different experience. When my daughter was called up for her turn (3 years old), she was a little hesitant and started crying a little, the woman who called us up (can't remember the name, but...

so ive been a loyal customer for great clips in victorville, ca for many years and i like going a certain stylist (francine) but for some reason or another for the bast month in a half i could never catch her on a weekend i call in to see if she"ll be in and she seems to always be off for the weekend. no i dont call every weekend but just about every other and the same response...and during the week in just inconvenient to me...so i guess this is good bye francine and great clips you just lost a great customer!
I have visited Great Clips on Padonia Road in Timonium, Maryland and let me tell you. The stylists are the nastiest and non-professionalist people I have ever seen in my life. There are two in particular, Nicole and Suela(jokes). You get a five to eight minute haircut from these two because they are trying to out cut one another, The salon is freezing because the one name Suela or Ella whatever her name is so hot! Really! Really! Lose some weight and stop bieng so miserable. I heard the owner don't care but if you have no morals and ethics what can you expect.
termination
In febuaury 2010 I Erica Bass put in my request off days for the month of May.Ms. Tammy Miller (MY SUPERVISOR) and I Always discuss upcoming events, scheduals and even personal issues. I needed to either be off or be out by 1pm on may30th. (I lived approximately 35 min. from the salon) I was sure to be the first to submit my request. In april 2010 I sat wit...
Read full review of Great Clips and 1 commentscrewed up my son's hair
°My 14 year old son has been growing his hair out for almost a year. It looks good but he needed it trimmed just a bit. He actually asked to get a trim so off we go. We had recently moved so I thought I would try the Great Clips down the street as a matter of convenience plus I was in a major hurry that day. We get there (Canyon Park store) and Jeff, one of the stylists takes him back. I go back with him at first and explain to Jeff that he likes his hair long but wants a little of the weight taken off and slightly trimmed. I go to the waiting area.
A little while later my son comes out Looking almost like Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber! I say, "that's a lot shorter than we wanted" and he just said it was a nice neat haircut and it looked good. WTF? Needless to say, my kid was pissed (remember...he is 14 AND just started a new school). We got out to the car and I notice he still has a several hairs that are way long in the front (obviously missed) his neck is cut up from the clippers, it's all uneven and choppy and it wasn't even washed. I was in a major hurry and unfortunately had to go.
Called our usual gal from the car and she said to bring him in. I had a lot do that day and couldn't go for several hours so my kid wore a hood the entire time we were out. I felt terrible. When we got to Hairmasters she couldn't believe what a butcher job they had done on him. In fact, all the girls at the place were surprised at how bad it looked. Well, she fixed it...and it's really short now but at least looks good.
Tried to do something simple and get my kid a haircut and it turned into a huge ordeal, cost me twice what it should have and took three times longer than it should have. Kinda tough when wasting time or money is not my thing.
I did not go back to that store and I definitely won't. I'm sure instead of a refund they will offer to "fix" it. No thanks. I have however written to their corporate office and issued my complaint. Will I get a response or even an acknowledgement? who knows but at least I feel better.
Lesson learned...Once you find a service provider who takes pride in their work and delivers quality...stick with `em. Shortcuts will get you nowhere.
I worked for Great Clips for over a year before I finally quit. The only reason I had stayed so long was because of my clientel I had built up. I hate bad mouthing a salon because I have been a stylist for 10 years and know it is not really a whole salon, more like one or two bad apples. However, I will agree that at Great Clips, they seem to care more about the quantity rather than the quality of their work. There were many days when i could not go on a break because we had people waiting. Which remember, 8 hours on your feet cutting hair nonstop... trust me a break is needed! I hate to admit that I myself a lot of the times at the end of the day could care less how a customer would walk out because I was sooo dang tired. No excuse I know... And also to add, while I was there they seemed to employ people who recieved so many complaints and still did nothing to correct either their behavior or their services. It's a shame that a company lets this happen so frequently and still does nothing to fix the problems. It almost kills me to say this but ... sometimes its true, you really do get what you pay for... and unfortunately with Great Clips it ain't much.
aweful haircut
I had a haircut at great clips, milestone centre, Maryland-20876. Lady named Margrita cut my hair and it was aweful that nobody could fix it. She was so rude to me and I discovered that she is use to behave like this with every customers and several people had an issue with her. When I complained she was not sorry for anything and insted told me that never get haircut from me.! I tried to reach manager but she is not available on phone and nobody is giving me her other contact details or e-mail address and telling me that i should keep calling to trace her as if i don't have anyother work. This is rediculous and i am never going to have haircut at any great clips centre.

very uneven poor haircut
Beware "Great Clips" in Calgary, Canada (Crowfoot-Ashley) provide me with the worst haircut in the past 50 years!.Uneven and improper together with very poor customer service. Had to get pay another outfit to fix the "Great Clips" haircut so that I would have an EVEN haircut(on both sides). The person who re cut my hair at another store noticed it was unevenly cut and I looked ridiculous with a "Great Clips" haircut. Store managers did not care. Very poor customer service attitude.

manager
I went to Great Clips for the first time ever, to have the ends of my hair clipped. For the convienance, I also had my two year old sons hair cut. There were three women inside of the store, however only two greeted us. One of the ladies immediately went to the back of the store. My information was put into the system and one lady had washed my hair. By the time she had finished one of the ladies had left the store. The lady who was left, by default, had to cut my son's hair. She then asked me had did I want his hair cut. I told her to give him a shape up and cut his hair low. She then said "this is not a barber shop and we don't know how to cut his hair." I thought it was strange that she had made that comment, but I did let her cut his hair. While I was still getting my ends cut, the young lady had me pay for our services. The older lady had then finished my son's hair cut. I was extremely surprised at how poorly of a job she had done. His hair cut was uneven all over and his shape up was not even done. When I approached the lady about it she was cutting someone else hair and had one waiting. She told me that was anything she could do and that I could come back the next day and have someone else cut his hair. She was unprofessional, inconsiderate, and rude. I asked the other lady would had cut my hair to recut my son hair she told me that I had to let the other woman cut it. I told her that I wanted to speak to the manager and found out that the lady who had been so rude was the manager. I have not went back to any Great Clips since that incident, nor will I return to that location. On the same day I had to go to another place to have my son's hair corrected. I was out a total of $30 for a two year old to have his hair cut. I want something to be done immediately about this manager. I not recommend anyone to that store if she is not reprimanded for her actions.

First it is obvious that was my computer? Second your question mark should be after the question you think?Do you punctuate much? Didn't think so.
I am sorry for that expierence, the way that should have been handled is they should have gone ahead and took you back and usually in the store some stylist are better at updos than others (which is common) if the client had to wait they should have been given the oppurtunity to look at some books while they wait and then when they took you back then in conversation let them know that appointments for updo's are better so you can usually get right in and not have to wait that is for your convienence and give them a card with my name on it so they can call ahead so next time you wont be hassled that is how I would have handled it as a rule of thumb it does go down the list for clients and everyone should be trained in updo's unless they are a barber.
You took your son to a place called "Great Clips" thats like taking my dead grandmother to a funeral home called "Awesome Holes in The Ground Where We Put Nana" Why don't you bring him to a barber shop next time. A nice mom and pop place. Become a regular customer and bring money back to "Main Street" instead of into a company.
hairstylist done wrong
I was hired on at granite city great clips and found out they had a staff that were all drug user, when you ask if great clips drug test there staff you found out they don't, and birds in a feather flock together i was terminated, because i know that 21 years of cutting hair I'm a excellent stylist clean and sober and bow my head and pray to Jesus and not a pot plant.I felt like i was in high school, the professionalism of the staff was awful and all staff expect myself should have fired because of the drug used among them.I WAS LET GO SO THEY WOUDNT BE FOUND OUT AND I WILL NOT LET GO OF THIS BECAUSE ITS NOT RIGHT TO FIRE SOMEONE ON FALSE PRETENSE TO SAVE A DRUG ADDICT.

I don't know you at all but keep your head up and don't get tired of doing the right thing. Those things go on in every Great Clips. I left a store that was just like what you described and they always let go of the good people. I'm going through something now in a totally different franchise. They are just plain firing and writing up people for petty things. But I know my God has greater plans for me...and you also.
Thanks for sharing :-)
the worst company to work for
I have worked for Great Clips for two years. There are two shops in winchester there is winchester station and stonewall plaza I worked at both and but the worst one is wichester station. The new owners came in last year and took all of the stylist bennifits away and they are very rude I worked with one girl there on a saturaday and she rufused clients and so I had to do them not Complaining.they are VERY UNPROMISEING and they try to blam who ever they can if something goes wrong.VERY RUDE stylist and Manager.I was basicly a assistant manager and the manager was NEVER there so guess who had to cover. And WHOS RESPONSIBILITY IS IT TO COVER WHEN SOMEONE CALLS OUT THE MANAGER RIGHT.WRONG I DID IT.I hardly ever called in sick and as soon as i walked in the door the next day my manager would be yelling at me the WHOLE time. Iwas there. If u are sick and in the hospital u better have a doctors excuse or oterwise you are fired same if you go to the doctor.Well how many times have other stylist come in without a doctors note this was only for me none of the other stylist.I AM SOOOOOO SICK OF THIS COMPANY AND I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THERE AGAIN.

Great Clips was the worst job I ever had!
employee
Wow! Glad to see complaints from other stylists on here! This company sux! Only numbers matter, creativity is punished, scheduling is a nightmare! Blackout times during all holidays when you would want to see friends and family. Benefits are so ridiculous they're close to non-existent! I know, lets get a bunch of talented people together and tell them they have to all cut the EXACT same way and do each haircut in 13-17 minutes no variations no exceptions you make no money crappy tips dirty customers and a owner who only cares about money and not about the employees Well, if you treat you employees like crap, then you will end up with nothing but crappy employees! BON VOYAGE assheads! you can have all the dirty nasty people i will be working in a place that supports my creative effort and allows me to spend the time I need with each client to ensure they get the cut they want! ewww so glad that's over with!

I worked for Great Clips for many years. I recently returned to work for them so I definitely know that the franchisee owner makes a big difference when it comes to the work environment. The manager (Patrice Newsome) I worked for along with a co worker would steal time from the clock and wouldn't do anything. The manager could not even do the simplest task of doing the schedule on time. This lead to an argument we had because I asked her to be professional and put out the schedule at least a week ahead not the day prior. She got mad and therefore proceeded to "punish" me by not putting me to work on weekends. This didn't bother me so much but the co worker (Loria Hadnott) took it upon herself to put me back on weekends just because she saw that it really didn't bother me. A complete lack of maturity and professionalism. Loria clocks Patrice in before she arrives even if she is late for hours. Patrice comes in late all the time, doesn't work mornings, and doesn't even call in to say she is not coming to work that day. O and don't let it be the time of the month because she calls in just because she has cramps that day. She does this every month... hello its a full salon of women if we all did this no1 would go to work. I hope the owner sees this so he can see how both of them are stealing money from him. Not to mention the horrible way they are managing the salon. I worked at the Telfair- Sugarland, TX location.
I am a stylist for great clips, I have 15 years Experience and have worked full service salons Most of my career. My haircut time used to be 45 min and I now only 15 min I have not changed my cutting technique however the time has become more because all I do is haircuts. In fact I feel more experienced now I'm cutting than I ever have before because I'm doing 18 to 25 haircuts a day. Its never the company only the stylist a bad cut comes from the stylist themselves not the salon. I give great haircuts in a 15 min time period which also includes checking the haircut. Helpful tip watch the stylist cut before you get your haircut
I too was just fired for not being able to complete the 13 to 17 minute haircut time, The night before my new co worker came in reeking of pot. She still has her job because she is fast. I was told to use a timer at my station, at first embarrassed, then the pressure got so bad from my manager, I didnt care, when my clients asked "whats the timer for" ? I just started telling them I have to cut your hair in 13 to 17 minutes so just shut up and dont ask for anything extra after Iam done. Basically I quit caring if I still wanted a job. CHOP SHOP, is the only word to describe this company, People that come in for 50.00 service for 13.99 actually get what they deserve. I have had women that obviously need to go back outside and read the sign of the where they just stepped foot into. Rude customers, and greeding owners go hand in hand. Greeding penny pinching ###s, Karma baby. I cant stand it when Men that dont have any experience in the industry buy beauty schools, or salon franchise like these, obviously have control issues over women. wimps!
THIS ARTICLE IS SO TRUE, EVERYTHING SHE IS SAYING IS TRUE
improper behaivor stealing miss use of company time
there is some bad work ethic going on at creighton crossing mall as a ex employee i have seen enough to come up the idea to quit. im to perfesional to be part of anything like that, employees charging customers haircuts as necktrims, doing complete services and only charging customers for a cut, at times there my be a full lobby and two or three girls choose to then smoke a cigerett and they will do it at same time me being puert rican have been treat so badly me and two employees names starting with initials k and d being the other male work haird but when the manager leaves all hells breaks loose, a, a, jbeing the three girls leave on companies time sometimes for 20min to 35min without clocking out ive seen at times they will go to go to wendys and a styles by letter a that sits first station she went out and came back a hour and half later and then clocked out thats stealing. the manager is a great manager but all this happens when hes not there and the other styles
i call k works double hard because the others slack off alot and what maid me quit was these three girls plus oler lady letter d always refuse to cut black people hair they alway put them as request and disapear to the break room those customers get so upset, thats not good buisness, i have build so much clients in the little ive been there and i would like to go back but not with whats going on. whats sad is k being female styles and d being the manager are excellent people and had to leave them in that madness...this for the owner name ms dajani ...i didnt want to leave...

On Saturday Oct. 25th, my friend enter the Great Clips hair salon on Round Rock Crossing to have her hair done for a special ooccission. When she enter the business she told the stylist she needed a updo for that night. The next stylist available didn't want to help the cutomer. Becasuse they said they did not know how to do an updo. Then from that point the stylist came around to all of the other stylists asking them to takn care of the client. The manager was no help at all in resolving this problem. She was told she had to make an appointment, but this is not what is post on the board. My friend was beginning to the feel she Are they supposed to make the customer feel that are not going to do it?
It is so hot in the waiting area that is so uncomfortable. Esxpecailly when the sun come in.
It's true you get what you pay for but that's not always the case because I went and got my hair higlighted at a "decent" place and got ### service. If only we knew we were going to to get crap service the world would be different! You should block your phone number and call the manager not giving your name at first. Listen to her reaction, and use your bs meter to sense if she seems like she is going to take care of it. As any manager, they would like to know how business is being conducted.
You get what you pay for! Go to a reputable salon instead of a chop shop.
I don't know if I would let anyone cut my hair for $5.99 where ever they are. I live in California and Great Clips up here run $14.99. We get great clips and wonderful customer service.
I live in Springville Ut. I am older mid 50's. I always go to Great Clips I went in last week and there were 4 stylists sitting around. They asked my name and looked on the computer. The girl yells who wants to do her? They all name some girl in the back and told her she had a customer. While I was there a nice looking young guy came in and they flocked to him. I am a good tipper usually $10.00. So what was up with that?
We don't make money on up dos, Yes they take a long time I get payed minimum wage. I can take 4 -5 haircuts in one hour and make 15 -20 in tips or take the up -do that takes longer and get $5 to 10.
didn't they already tell you "THEY DON"T KNOW HOW TO DO UP-DO'S"...why should your friend feel anything but (sorry sucks to be them) if someone doesn't know how to do their job...did your firend look like this after...?
If you wanted a fancy look, GC is NOT the place...Fork out the extra cash and go somewhere more respectable, honey...
up do's do require notice a head of time via appointments.
you need to make an appointment for an updo..they take to long. She probably did know how to do it, noone wanted to because it takes to much time, which means less money
