I purchased a used 2016 Kia Optima from a used car dealership in mid-November 2022. I paid almost a $1000 for the extended Powertrain Plus warranty so the engine and transmission would be covered. Around late September of 2023, I took my car to my hometown Kia dealerahip. They wouldn't even look at my car because they don't deal with GWC Warranty due to the fact they're "difficult to deal with in regards to payments for repairs done". I took my car to a different Kia dealership approximately an hour from my home. They have had no bad issues with GWC Warranty and they agree to do an oil consumption test" on my Kia because it was going through more oil in between oil changes than it should have been. GWC Warranty agreed to tear the motor apart to look for defective part(s) which costs $2000. Turns out the pistons and piston rings were faulty. 2016 Kia Optimas were known for using excessive amounts of oil and having defective engines. The recall for this issue was SC139. An inspector had to come and check the engine parts to see if they were a Kia issue or due to my negligence. The inspector denied the claim due to carbon buildup which was caused by my car burning excess oil. I contacted GWC Warranty today and asked them to escalate this issue to their main supervisor. The warranty doesn't cover corrosion, varnish, etc. If the pistons and piston rings weren't faulty, then the engine wouldn't be burning oil which is causing the carbon buildup.
Claimed loss: To tear engine apart $2000 It'll probably cost close to $3,000 to put the engine back together. The rental car costs $303/week. I'm working towards almost $7,000 in out of pocket expenses.
Desired outcome: I simply want an engine replacement due to the excessive oil consumption issues. I simply want them to make good on their warranty that I purchased for this car a year ago.
