Stay away from these guys
I don't believe the reviews on homestars.ca. I found one company with perfect 10 score and raving reviews that they are always on time. However, for me, they were a no show. I wasted time and money to make sure I was available and also got a sitter for my kids. I didn't get a call until almost 2 hours later. Anyway, I tried to post my review but homestar...

Misleading website and its scam
His website www.Homestars.com claims to aid homeowners/business owners in the selection process for contractors who are reputable and trustworthy and to also inform the user of who to watch out for.
Here is the reality of Homestars.com/CA; They take money from contractors to list with them which completely negates their ability to offer a true unbiased opinion.
When questioned about this I was told that, We take our site very seriously and accusations very seriously. Since enlightening Homestars about one of their listed contractors and the fraud in which they engage, I have received no more responses to my claim about Homestars from Homestars.
They have no screening process for the contractors they list. Homestars is a bought and paid for listing service. Homestars concern is not aiding the unsuspecting homeowner but in their own bank account.
Homestars will edit/remove your comments and complaints without explanation or claim that the comment info is not substantiated, they do not apply this same editing to a contractor about to purchase their ‘premium’ listing service.
Be warned, Homestars is useless unless you are trying to attract potential victims. I know because I am one of them. See my post on Hawthorne Kitchen Design.

BEWARE.
They TOOK MY MONEY!
I AM MAD!
Nelson Diaz Real Estate is a BIG SCAM! Beware! We LOST our MONEY!
I totally disagree, Nelson Diaz (Homestar) was awesome, up front, professional and accommodating. He was the only Realtor who stuck by us and was willing to put in the work necessary to get us through our tough time. Eventually, our home sold and he got us into one that we could afford. He's our Realtor for life (hopefully not going to need him for a while).
Thank you Homestar.

Nomater,
I work with HomeStars and we have never, ever deleted a review for a paying customer. Doesn't happen, period.
We do, however, crosscheck reviews to verify authenticity, as people are known for writing on the wrong company. A trail of those are always left on the site so reviews never actually disappear.
We have a number of systems in place to cross check for companies writing their own reviews on their own companies and we can out those companies if we do catch them. See this post: http://blog.homestars.com/archives/2011/03/10/transparency-to-review-approval-process/
As for companies paying customers to review them, I won't say it doesn't happen, but it's something we can't really police. When we talk to companies on our site we suggest that it's not a good idea to buy reviews, because there's always the chance you get the review that says 'X company paid me to write this review.. they did a good job' - which is a pretty bad review to have.
