horrible service, over charged
Had internet installed in July of 2015, we have had nothing but awful wifi service, cannot connect, cannot download, basically paying for a service we cannot use. When calling to cancel the service as an unsatisfied customer on 08/20/2015 the rep on the phone was rude and argumentative with me. I never signed a paper saying we agreed to any contract, such as an early termination fee of $400. Our first month of service we were over charged nearly 50 dollars and not refunded. We were never explained the refund process, so never received our refund after installation. This company is a scam and completely gets over on all of their customers.
deceptive business practices
HughesNet has repeatedly taken unauthorized payments from my checking account. The first time they removed funds from my account I called and notified them that I had not signed up for autodrafts and under no circumstances were they to ever auto draft my account again. The customer service rep informed me that I would be put on paper invoice billing, which was fine with me. I rec'd my first paper bill and noted a $5.00 charge for requesting a paper bill. I called again and was informed that I would have to pay the $5.00 every month in order to receive a paper bill. At no time was I told that I could not go online and pay the paper bill. I was never told that when I paid online, my credit card information would be saved and HughesNet would automatically put me back on auto draft. Every credit card I have, and pay online, saves my card information so I do not have to re-enter it every time I make a payment but they never auto draft my account as a result. I DID NOT AUTHORIZE HUGHESNET TO TAKE FUNDS FROM MY ACCOUNT ON AUTO DRAFT. How can they legally use saved information to withdraw UNAUTHORIZED funds from someone's account? Please, Please, Please do something about this company!
I totally agree they have done the same to me. They are very misleading with their whole service. They are a scam, with horrible service. I cannot believe they continue to be in business.
no service noo customer support
i signed up in jan 2015 for phone and internet service. they never got phone service working but i was charged the internet service is terrible. they cut you off if you go over data, which they never told me.i get over billed. i have no service after two weeks. i got an upgrade and the service got worse now i cant even get to a live person. they blocked google. there are many complaints, over 1500 on internet. is there any thing i can do. every thing they tell you is a lie. thanks van
nightmare service
The worst service ever! It would be better if someone needs internet to get a dial up system or just take the journey to a library. Hughesnet continues to sell you higher and higher services each month and at the end of the day the service still doesnt work. Once they have exhausted you financially on their own, they send you to a service provider to help with you computer, because it must be your computer, who then hits you for a monthly fee. When that doesnt work they have you to replace routers. In the meantime the time on the phone with them has become a part-time job.
Never, Ever use this service. My neighbors and I are going to pool our money together to pay comcast $6000 to extend to our neighborhood, because in the long-run its cheaper for us.
lied to make me sign up
I wanted internet service at home and called several providers. I am old and do not understand internet terminology, I explained that to the sales person. I explained I don't know what a gigaawatt, or a megebite, or a nigabite is, I told him I want internet BUT Do Not want a meter on my computer, or any type of service that will charge me more if I use more, I only want the same bill every month, and I do not want to run out of internet. The sales person promised I would NEVER run out of internet or have to pay extra. Each month the internet only worked at the beginning of the month for two weeks then stopped working. Each time we called to complain they told us we need to pay more. After almost a year I called to cancel the service, but they did not listen or turn it off, and only wanted to argue with me, but I unplugged the equipment and got a different internet provider. They sent me email trying to get paid and I replied back to explain the issue, but my email was returned, they only want to talk but not listen. I called them a second time asking them to come get their equipment, but same as before they wanted to argue and threaten me with early termination fees and extra charges. I explained to them we have NO CONTRACT because their sales person LIED to make me sign up. They threatened me with collection fees and other charges. . The other day I received an email from (not really sure) UPS / Hughes that was not understandable but I assumed it was to ship the equipment back, so I called the number thinking it was UPS, but it was Hughes, I ask about shipping their equipment back again, but had all the same results as stated above.
service does not work
I have been a subscriber of Hughesnet for 11 months and 21 days. My service has only been functional for approximately 60 days total out of the year. I contacted Hughesnet numerous times and received the same response "We will run a diagnostic to see what the problem is...". I decided to just pay the bill for the next few months, because that is what I was told at that time was left on my contract. I called today to get the date of the contract expiration and I was told that I have 12 months left on my contract. The operator began to try to over talk me. I asked her to put someone on the phone that could terminate my contract without any more costs to me. I have already paid more than $1100 to the company. She then terminated the call because I refused to speak with her any longer, especially since she would only repeat the script that they have in front of them. I asked her prior to the hang up if she were the customer, wouldn't she want something done about her service...the answer was silence on the phone.

fake tokens for purchase
We have a membership with Hughes as our internet provider. Not only is there never enough data in a month, but when you click on "Purchase Tokens" to purchase extra data, it takes your money but does not give you any data. The lady on the phone said the tokens were only valid from 2 am to 8 am. However, NOWHERE on the purchase webpage does it say that. This is the biggest scam I have ever experienced because it is direct false advertisement. As an extra slap in the face, when my husband tried to get our money back for the false tokens, the lady hung up on him.
Bad service, poor internet speeds, since i got the service its just been a heck of problems whit their service, its even slower than dial up.. the only time i can read my email and surf on the web its at night... if there is any way to get rid of them i will be really thankful... A. Arrieta
double charged
I called hughesnet to get service and paid 158. 98 for activation fee and the next day checking my account i found a dole charge, i called hughesnet and they sid they did not show it so i went to my bank and they faxed my bank statement to them. Called to hours later and they said it would take up to 7 days to get through the system. So i canceled the...
Read full review of Hughes and 1 commentfalse charge on returned satellite equipment
I visited relatives in Frankfort, Ky the month of September 2014 and rented a small cottage outside of town for that month only. The address was 3845 Bald Knob Rd Frankfort, Ky 40601. On September 9th 2014 I began service with Hughes Net Satellite Service only. The installation was free and I paid first month fees of $49.95 in advance on my credit card.. Two weeks later, on September 24th 2014 I cancelled the service. Since I was leaving town, I didn’t have time to wait for their pre-paid boxes to be sent to me so that I could return the modem and radio transmitter. I called Hughes Net and they gave me a return address in Gaithersburg, MD so the last week of September, 2014, I went to the Frankfort, Ky Post Office, bought a box and then paid the shipping costs, with tracking and sent the items back to them postage paid in full. In early October 2014 I called Hughes Net and they said they hadn’t received the package despite the Post Office showing the items had already been delivered. I called again in mid October 2014 and then they conformed that they got the equipment and my business with them was over. However, On December 20th 2014, I got a bill for $318.00 saying I had to pay them for the equipment that I already sent and that they already told me they had received. When I called late December 2014, customer service said they did not get the equipment, and had never even talked to me about it, stating if I didn’t pay, the account would go to collections agency and ruin my credit.

breach of contract
2 years ago i obtained internet service under the recovery act for our because we are very limited for providers, we were guaranteed service at the price of $39. 95 for 5 years under this promotion. Three weeks ago i was contacted stating that our service would be discontinued on jan 1st unless i agreed to upgrade for $10. 00 more for the first twelve months and then after that an additional $10. 00. I asked why i was being forced to change over - - i have never not paid my bill - - and it's not my fault hughes net lost their lease with their provider and have to update their transponders in order to provide me with service. I get no where with these folks - - - - why should i pay? Mention to them that they are not sticking to the contract response is "we are terminating it:" if i said that i would be charged once more i'd have to pay.

I have been suffering with internet speeds at or below 1 mbps! I am not looking for a way to get out of a contract as my 2 year contract with Hughes Net has expired. I feel this is part of the reason for the slow speeds however, the price has not decreased with the speed so I feel they are in Breach of Contract. Can someone tell me what the law is on this?
horrible service, horrible company
HughesNet Satellite Internet is the worst ISP on the market. They are pure criminals and the government is allowing this to continue. I have read the comments on this website regarding HughesNet. Is this information getting passed up to the right people? Yes, I agree on filing a civil lawsuit. The service is horrible and I was lied to in the beginning. I am paying almost $100 a month and I get dial-up speeds on the regular. Since the speed varies so bad, I know it is not the equipment. The service works best between the hours of 2 AM and 6 AM. What sense does that make in a household? I am in a rural area where I have no other options for now. I only hope people get to this page before paying for this service. I just moved back to America in August and so far, I am ready to go back overseas due to all the drama I have had in my trip. This one really bites the cake because my school is online. I cannot download anything on this service and they will not tell me the cause. HughesNet is a monopoly in Leesburg, GA and someone needs to correct this matter ASAP.

criminals & thieves
HughesNet Internet provider are a group of thieves and criminals. They will steal from you and claim they don't, they will say you haven;t returned equipment when you have proof you have. They will even claim to credit you back for days your service is down (which is A LOT), however there too they steal right out of your pocket.
Stay away from them, it is much better to pay someone else more and have wonderful customer service, great internet service and a carefree mind knowing the company will not be stealing right out of your account.
failure to provide service
Tired of Hughesnets Failure to provide service. Bad Service, don't care attitude. Complaints go unheard. Time to file a Lawsuit against them. That's the only thing that will get their attention. Also when they advertise faster internet Gen 4, Its False advertisement because its slower than ever! No internet would be better than this!

account reactivation
We have had Internet service with HughesNet since Feb 2009. Upgraded to HughesNet Gen4 in 2013. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to cancel the service but were told we could only suspend the service for 6 months and then would be able to request another suspension which would be reviewed at that time. Then our circumstances changed and I contacted HughesNet to request reactivation of the service. I have spent the last 20 days trying to get the service reactivated. I never talk to the same person twice and they never seem to be able to find the reference notes to find out what has happened/been said on previous contact calls. They refuse to reactivate the service because the account is in my father's name and, although I am listed on the account, they need to talk to him. He is deaf (wears hearing devices) and unable to hear on the phone. He depends on me, his daughter, to transact business on the phone. They do not have a physical address in Fredericksburg where we could go take care of this matter. All we want is to reactivate the service so my dad can check his email and pay bills online. You would think that would be to their advantage. I am frustrated and would like to take their modem and stick it where the sun don't shine. By the way, they are charging us each month for the equipment rental. What a rip-off!
I am having the same problem. They have been charging me for six additional months for a service that I cannot receive. This is ridiculous in the highest and least profession degree. I have had the service for longer than any contract they claim to have even though I know for a fact that I didn't have a minimum length that I knowingly signed anywhere. I have their equipment and have offered multiple times to send it back if I could just have an address. This is, without a doubt, some of the worst service I have had to suffer through. I may have to change my checking account just to get them to stop charging me.
horrible customer service / slow expensive internet
Hughes net has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I was on the phone with them for 1 hour/15mins just trying to disconnect my service. The first reason was a communication barrier, there customer service reps are located in the Philippines and she had problems understanding me and I could not understand her or get her to understand the issue. When the tech comes out to take that enormous satellite that they put in your yard they do not take all of the equipment, just the dish. They ask you for your forwarding address so they can send you a box to mail the model and that transmitter that you have to figure out how to get off of the dish. if you do not have a forwarding address or if they do not get their equipment back they will charge you $300. on top of that they charged me a $150 earlier disconnection fee for the most expensive slowest internet service I have ever had! DO NOT EVER GET HUGHES NET!
failure to provide service/dishonest business practices
We started using Hughes net in February of 2012, because we live out in the country it was basically our only choice. Our service was slow so I called to have them check our system in August of 2013. I told the representative Isel that it was important our service was reliable and reasonably quick since my husband and I are both college students online. She told me an upgrade from Gen3 to Gen4 would solve our issues and we would be much happier even though it was more expensive. We did it and it was a big mistake! All of a sudden we started hearing about the "fair use policy" which we apparently tore through in days starting in August of 2013. Until our upgrade we never went over our "fair use" and for the life of me I don't know how we could, we don't download anything except maybe every once in 6 months. I talk to Hughes net every month to this day 7/29/2014 and add "coins" constantly. This month 5 coins in 3 days, how is that even possible? I have pages of case numbers, names, call centers in the Phillipines and Mexico where by the male representatives tend to think the little woman knows nothing about the big world of computers. This company is a scam we are not getting what we pay for but they will be happy to upgrade us to help us out.
customer service it
I am active duty army. I live on post at Fort Carson located in Colorado Springs, CO. My Internet went down around 5 pm MST. I called at 6pm MST and spoke to Ivan. We tried to get it up and working but no luck. This is the 4th time this has happened. I am currently enrolled an online university and I asked them if they can send a technician out on Saturday. He replied no. So, I asked if I can speak to a supervisor and I was on the phone speaking to Alex. I told him the same thing I told Ivan, got the same response. They both had an attitude about me wanting to have someone to come out on Saturday. They said they don't have any technicians that come out on a Saturday. They need to have more technicians to meet their customers needs.

deception in advertising
I signed with Hughes Net about a year ago. The installer said I would have no problems with the service. This is not true; they limit your time on their service and last evening I was asked if I wanted to use a token.
You see, my Internet service had dropped to a dial up speed and could not even get my emails opened. Of course when this happens; you think you have serious problems with your computer and try to get it back up to snuff by changing things on it. This has happened twice in the past year and even spent over $400. to have Best Buy repair
it. There was no mention of this when I signed up and the problem was that HughesNet
Intentionally slowed my machine so I could not possible use it. This to me is a bait & switch or even worse ; a horribly deceptive practice and can be an expensive one
as I mentioned earlier. I could not reasonably recommend their services when the ugliness of their practices is soooo "wrong".

poor business practices
I decided to give Hughes Net a try after finally getting tired of the slow speed of my DSL line. I was really exited about the proposition of having 2 to 5 times faster internet even if it meant having to pay 3 times the cost. Once the equipment was installed, the installer began running his tests. Things weren't going well for him. The initial tests had the download speed approximately matching the DSL speed and the upload speed was 0. In my business the upload speed is key. I am constantly sending files (some rather large) to my customers. I stayed late that day and he worked until around 8:00 that evening. He asked if he could come back and finish the install and I had no problem with that. Roughly a week later I called the installer and asked if he was going to come back and finish. He apologized that he had forgotten about me and showed up a couple days later. He again worked fairly late but made little progress. The next day he showed back up with 3 other installers. All of them worked for several hours and finally we started to see some progress. However the upload and download speeds were roughly identical to DSL. The installed started tried to explain that away by stating that this was a heavy traffic time and encouraged me to just give it a try for a while and see if it improved. He also stated that I had 30 days to opt out if the system didn't meet my expectations. Knowing that I had 30 days I agreed to give it a chance. Mind you we are already 15 days into the 30, that started on the day he originally showed up to do the install. Even though we had tested everything on 3 different computers, only one of them would work shortly after he left. He couldn't have been more than 5 minutes away when I called him to let him know that only one of the computers could access the internet. He told me to look at my paperwork and contact the support group. At that point I decided that I really didn't want 15 more days of this aggravation so I contacted Hughes Net and told them I didn't want their service. They had no problem with the cancellation but they did tell me that I needed to get up on the roof and remove the equipment and send it back to them. Uh, no. At that time I was getting prepared for surgery on my knee and had absolutely no desire to climb a ladder, much less remove equipment that I had no technical knowledge of. I'm sure I could have left a finger print on some part and then they would claim I damaged it. Several phone calls and several days passed before I finally convinced them to send the technician back out here and have him remove the equipment. He showed up and removed the equipment. Problem solved, right? Oh no. A few weeks later I saw that Hughes Net had popped my bank account for $324.75. I called them and they explained that I had not returned their equipment. I explained that the technician they sent took the equipment with him. They still tried to tell me that this was my responsibility. Really? Naturally I contacted the bank and disputed the charge. A month later I get another bank charge for 90-something bucks. I called Hughes Net again and they explained that this was for my monthly service. It took several calls to finally get someone over there to understand that I do not have a contract with them nor did I receive any "service". Once again I disputed the charge with the bank but this time I cancelled the credit card Hughes Net had on file as well. A month later I get a letter from Hughes Net asking for another 90-something buck for the current months charges. Here we go again with the phone calls. Once again I finally convinced them that we do not owe them anything as we were never provided anything from them. We are now 6 months down the road from the initial install and today we received a letter from a collection agency for 90-something bucks. GEEZ, here we go again.
slow internet speed
I'm a new customer to Hughesnet. I chose them because they advertise fast internet service. For the most part, I'm satisfied with their service; however, during the hours of 6 P.M. and Midnight, their service is so slow, I can't do the things I need to do. I've spoken to customer service and was told these are peak hours of usage and the amount of customers using their service causes the system to be slow. I understand this; however, it seems to me that if they are aware of this problem, they should implement improvements to their system to handle peak hour usage. We, as customers, pay for the "fast" internet service they advertise and should not have to deal with the slowness during this time frame. I am in a year long contract with Hughesnet and it would not benefit me to change providers, otherwise, I would. I'm hoping someone who can do something about this problem at Hughesnet reads this and take action to satisfy their customers.
terrible, sloer than dialup&very expensive.i am stuck in 2year contract, cant ait til its up.they falsely advertise fast connection.arning, dont even think about getting this broadband.
Check out what I posted it will help you get out of your contract with hughesnet.

About Hughes
The service is known for its availability, as it can reach locations beyond the reach of cable and DSL. HughesNet offers various plans that differ in data allowances and speeds, designed to accommodate the varying needs of its customer base. These plans come with a built-in feature called the "Bonus Zone," which provides users with additional data to use during off-peak hours.
In addition to internet services, HughesNet also provides business solutions tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises. These solutions include business-grade high-speed internet and additional features such as enhanced security and business support.
HughesNet's equipment typically involves a satellite dish and a modem, which are required for the connection to the satellite network. Installation is conducted by certified professionals, and the company provides customer service and technical support to assist with any issues or questions that may arise.
While satellite internet is generally not as fast as fiber or cable, HughesNet's service is designed to support common online activities such as browsing, emailing, and social media engagement. However, due to the nature of satellite communication, there may be higher latency compared to other types of internet connections, which can affect real-time online activities like gaming or video conferencing.
Customers considering HughesNet should evaluate their internet needs and geographical location to determine if satellite internet is the most suitable option for them.
