Be careful of j2 efax. They offer a free trial of their fax service. The trial does not work, your faxes are not sent they will pretend it's technical on your side. (sorry, I have 20+ years in it, they say this to the wrong guy) efax.com is just a scam! All they want is to get you to give them your credit card details. When you realize they service is garbage level quality, and ask them to terminate the supposed to be free trial, they will not honor your cancellation request. Instead, they will charge your credit card for many months. They will even send bogus advertisement faxes to you. The only way to get your money out of these credit card frauders is to request a chargeback at your bank. If your bank don't want ask directly to visa or mastercard, because visa policy on chargeback is not limited in time, you may ask a chargeback even one year later! When the scammers at efax.com will get enough chargebacks their payment processor will refuse their business. You may also directly inform their payment processor that efax is a scam. Also, you should make aware the bbb in usa (www.bbb.org) of what happened to you, if they get many complains they likely forward the matters to relevant anti-fraud authorities.

I posted a similar comment on another page. There are more complaints here under J2 Efax Plus Service.
The same thing happened to me and I've been trying to resolve this for the past 4 months. They charged me $33 for my 30 day free trial. The IT person asked me to send him the link that I clicked on for my free trial to prove that I didn't sign up for the Plus Account. He admitted it was a mistake and they told me they would refund my credit card and cancel my account. They even gave me a cancellation confirmation and a transaction number but my credit card company confirmed this refund never came through. The manager at J2 Efax said he would look into this and personally call me back – he never did. I tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company (Mastercard) and J2 Efax has been lying to Mastercard saying I signed up for a full account and never cancelled it. Someone on the other complaint page posted this email address for someone at J2 Efax that claims he will help with fraudulent charges: otp@mail.j2.com. I'll try emailing this person but I'm running out of luck here... this is the first time I've encountered an internet scam in all my years... never again will I give my credit card number for a free trial! I will spread the word on the message boards so that they stop getting away with this scam. Looks like they've been doing this for many years.

Law Firm Investigating Potential Class Action Regarding eFax Overcharges (Advertisement)

My name is Alex Safyan and I am an attorney at the law firm Pearson, Simon, Warshaw & Penny, LLP in Sherman Oaks, CA. My firm focuses on consumer class actions, and we are currently investigating a potential class action against J2 Global (the company that owns eFax) for overcharging customers after they cancel their eFax free trials. We saw your complaint on this website regarding your experience with eFax and we would like to know if you would like to discuss this potential matter further. If so, please contact me at [protected].

Thank you,

Alex Safyan

I just had the same experience with eFax. They renewed my account for a year, without notifying me first. When I discovered the charge, I contacted them by phone and by their help desk text. I was also told they would not refund the charge, and my only option was to catch them next year before I was charged again, and cancel the account at that time. I notified my Attorney General, kicked up a stink on their face book page, and was contacted by phone today to say that they were giving me a full refund. I think this company should be sued. Automatic renewal without notice, consent or authorization by consumers was already litigated by 10 state AGs against Time Warner in 2006, and they ended up repaying all their customers. I'm happy to join a class action law suite against this company if I don't actually get this fee returned (as some posters have suggested is likely).

I had the same experience. I can not believe how could they think they will stay in business this way. I thought they are a legitimate company, but it looks like they are doing shady things that just want to scam money out of unsuspected people.

They've charged me 3 times of $12 + foreign transaction fees for services out of nowhere that I've never used. Filed dispute with AMEX and got money back. They are a fraudulent criminal organization.

Hi All,
I have been charged 4 times till I cancelled my card. There is no contact in India whom I can speak to and if you are calling the customer service; you will only hear the automated response saying that all the csc people are busy...This is one side trap, you can enter by you cannot come out of this!...Do not go for EFax and only way to come out if you are stuck is by cancelling your credit...This company is run by serious fraudsters., I have raised a complaint and I can give all the details to pull out the people who run this company.

Regards,
Shetty

Hi,
I am from Canada and unluckily subscribed to their services an year ago... asked them to cancel my account months ago and they kept with drawing the money. I didn't realize it as I wasn't o top of my CC statements. Anyways, my credit card expired and that's when they started emailing me to update the credit card information and that's when I realized that they have been charging me all this while despite my call to cancel the account. I emailed them back to stop scamming the customer and that's when I started receiving email from their so called collection unit. I am still dealing with them .. Thanks goodness that my credit card expired and they cannot with draw.

You have charges me for your service, which I have never used or signed up for. I have no idea why you have charged me. I do not fax, I do not have a fax number. Please credit my account, stop this scam. You made this transaction on 2/25/2015 Credit my account.
I called your number after waiting a very long time, the girl said she could not find any information about this. She gave me this email address.

I also have had difficulty cancelling this service. This service was initiated by my now deceased husband and has not been used in almost three years. They will not cancel unless I send a copy of my deceased husband's death certificate. When I questioned the payment through American Express, J2 sent a long form letter, with no signature, explaining that we had been customers since 2004 and that they were surprised that I wished to cancel. Whoever sent it did not even have the courage or authorization to sign it. Stay far away from this company. They are highly unethical. Oh, if you get India like I did, demand to speak with a supervisor in the U. S.

I guess I will have to cancel my card. I was charged 16.95 then 3 $10 charges today. I sent 10 fax pages. 150 pages are supposed to be covered under the 16.95 plan. They claim my fax transmission times were too long which caused overages. $30 in overages for 10 pages? I plan to contact my bank tomorrow and see if they will dispute it.

I do not have an efax account. I received an email today, saying I have a fax waiting for me. I am not expecting a fax from anyone, so I'm going to assume that the email is not legit.

I signed up for the following (copied from the site: https://www.efax.com/signup-for-efax/success-new)
eFax Free Trial
Monthly Recurring Charge : $16.95
(Not charged until after your free trial ends.)
Activation : Free!

However the confirmation letter [from eFax Customer Service ] received at my e-mail address said:
Thank you for choosing eFax Plus! Please save this email as you'll need these details to update your account and
edit your user settings.

After a week I cancelled the trial, through their UK Customer Service number +[protected].
I would have thought no more about it, until I saw that I had been charged $26.95.
I phoned their UK Customer Service, and was told by a man that since I had signed for eFax Plus I was charged from the date that I had signed up (for the Free Trial !) $16.95 + $10 activation fee. I said that I never signed up for eFax Plus, but he insisted that I had, and that no refund was possible.

I decided to got through the signing up process again, to see if at any point I had accidentally signed up for eFax Plus. Sure enough, after signing up for the Free Trial, I received the same e-mail saying I had signed up for eFax Plus.
I promptly called UK Customer Service, and told them that this was downright dishonest and fraudulent, and after the woman handling my call consulted with some superior, she confirmed that I would receive a refund for my first (cancelled) subscription within 4-5 working days, and that this second Free Trial subscription would be cancelled and no charge made.

This company should be prosecuted !
