Very very poor management
I wanted to contact you about your management team as they called themselves this evening. We brought our children and our grandchildren to the koa today we rented 2 cabins 1 for our daughters family and one for me and my wife an 2 other kids. During the evening the air conditioning went out in mine and my wife's cabin. So we call the evening number. The...
Read full review of Kampgrounds Of America [KOA]cancelation policy is deceptive
To whom it may concern:
my name is hannah and i have an upcoming reservation at the oregon dunes koa, i thought that their cancelation policy was 48hrs, well apparently thats the koa policy not the coos bay policy... above koa's cancelation is the campgrounds cancelation :( that to me is deceptive, anyway, i tried to cancel today knowing id be out $10, im a day and a half late so no luck, they want my $88. so i then asked if i could transfer my reservation so i could recoup my $88. no cant do that either, this is sad that they wont work with me to figure this out, if i would have known the cancelation policy was 14days i absolutely would have called sunday! i am not a happy camper
Desired outcome: my $78. and for the cancelation policy on the website changed, if they dont have to abide by the koa cancelation policy then the koa's cancelation policy should not be on their website, it is absolutely misleading~
KOA Salmon Falls - Lebanon Maine Electrical Safety
We reserved premium patio site 21 at KOA Salmon Falls in Lebanon Maine. The park has serious electrical issues and our AC keeps tripping up. Thankfully we have surge protections by WatchDog that identified campground electric voltage is dropping below 104 resulting in tripping up breakers. We checked with other campers and everyone is having same issues. I went to management and there only response was they are aware and it happens every summer when park is sold out. I asked management how they resolve this given we paid for premium site to use our RV amenities like AC. Management said nothing they can do at all and to just conserve and not use AC and up to us if we can’t stay for our entire trip. We spent $467 for a 4 night stay and management is aware this happens every summer yet they continue to sell out spots and don’t care about the customers who paid for ability to have AC.
Desired outcome: I expect a refund for my spot due to inconvenience and the fact management here is aware and don’t care.
KOA campground Ann Arbor Michigan
Not one thing this campground offers was available, got here on the 31 of July 2022
No putt putt golf
Water slide, water activity, shut down , sign says no lifeguard
Paddle boats and Kayaks , no order
Showers dirty ,
Basic upkeep of grounds ,, none that I can see
Just staff riding around on golf carts , smoking cigars, watching all day, didn’t see any activity from the offices or on the camp grounds
My family and family in Michigan, chose this campground because of what is said on the web site ,, this location needs better management period ,, !
After coming all the way from Alabama, toMichigan, to camp and have a good time with my grandchildren,, we are stuck , in the worst campground !
Please can somebody or something be done ,, we are here all week , and it’s very disappointing to my family, especially my grandchildren,, who could not wait to enjoy the water slide , water activity, putt putt
Etc … but we will be in our rv , sitting around doing nothing! What a bad reflection on the KOA campgrounds ? Please help
Desired outcome: Some kind of refund, or parcel Your campground,, does not own up to what a KOA campground should be,, please understand we are on vacation, and visiting grandchildren,, what a disappointment!!
reimbursement
I called Mystic KOA a few days before we left to go there. I saw on the website that the pool was closed. So I called to confirm because if so I was going to cancel. I was told it was closed but they said they would reimbursement be for all beach parking. So we did not cancel. We went to the beaches, paying $20 for each day. When I got back to get the reimbursement, I was told that they changed the policy and would not reimbursement. The campsite was in dire need of an update and our site was filthy.
Desired outcome: reimbursement
Campground Jasper Hinton Alberta Canada
We booked this campground months ago. It was listed as jasper first. It was, in fact, an hour our of jasper village and in a meadow without a tree or bush any where. The campsite was listed as a total upgrade with patio, barbeque, and table. While technically correct, the entire site was overgrown with weeds and very unappealing. The entire campground was unkempt and there were few, if any, amenities. There was a two week cancellation policy, and after seeing it, I can understand why. Even if we have to pay the entire bill, which is exorbitant, we will be leaving here as soon as I can find a place to go that has a little more going for it. I feel it was misrepresented from the beginning and I am most unhappy. KOA has been so dependable up until now. I hope this review is read and followed up on so that others are not left feeling cheated as we are feeling. And we feel we are owed a refund from management for misrepresentation.
Desired outcome: Refund
Reservation at Nashville, TN location
On 7/13/22 I booked a reservation at 11:01am for 7/14/22. At 6:50pm I realized I should have reserved it for 7/15/22 not 7/14/22. I emailed the campsite asking if they could move my reservation to the next day. At 3:50pm on 7/14/22 I called to follow up because I hadn’t heard anything. I spoke with a lady who said she couldn’t move my reservation because it was less than 48 hours and there was no way to do it in the system. I asked her if I cancelled it what would happen and she said I would forfeit the $95.37 I spent. In my opinion that is a load of bull and terrible customer service. How can they justify taking my money without providing me with anything and especially when I booked it less than 48 hours before I planned to be there? Seems very wrong to me.
Desired outcome: I would like to either have my reservation moved as I initially requested or a full refund for my trouble.
Reservation system
This year we had to cancel our trip to the Smokies. We stayed for the past 5 years at The Koa located on Veterans Highway. Site I. When canceled our reservation we wanted to book for next year and was told the system was not up for booking for next year. We checked daily the online site and it never opened. Finally we called again same answer, I emailed the campground the same day about 15 min. From the phone call and was told the site is booked for next year by another party. According to the email the blame was put on Corp. stating to do local registration and not online. Very disappointed with KOA.
The start of the stay for next year would of been June 30- July 10 for site I.
Lack of Safety concern from owner
I’m a single female traveler. I had a uncomfortable setup where there were 5+ creepy men surrounding my site on 7/7/2022 which is the day I got there. I fortunately have 2 dogs with me but they were even on edge due to some of the actions those men were exhibiting. We left for the day hoping that these particular individuals would be gone by the time I got back and there were even more that joined their group. I asked the owner Sylvia to get a refund on 7/8/2022. I told her I don’t need the full refund as it was later in the day, just not comfortable in this environment. She didn’t ask why or if I she could move me (There are 4 rows of tent site areas and had everyone crammed into 2 rows). She simply just stated “you can go, but I won’t refund your money.” I paid for 2 nights starting on 7/7/2022 and was supposed to leave the morning of 7/9/2022. I strongly believe this is not a safe or professional place for any person to be in. I have been using KOAs everyday as I travel cross country and this is my first encounter with a owner that has such a lack of care for the safety of their guests, especially solo female travelers.
Desired outcome: A refund and Change in there handling of safety protocols.
Renfro Valley Koa, Kentucky
Reservations for 2 camp sites (7/18 thru 7/23) made by phone, 4/3/2022. Payment was made for both, $429.30 each. Payment in full is very common since Covid. I recieved confirmation with the cancellation policy on it, before 4 p.m. 48 hours a $10.00 fee. We both called to cancel on 7/1, way before the 48 hrs, and were told there would be no refund of the $429.30 and a $10.00 fee. After the fact, If you go to there website there is an ALERT, holidays, special events and weekend, no refund. Don't know when that was placed there. We were not informed of this over the phone when reservations were made. We did not cancel but asked that they send our request to there main office for review, 8 days later and no reply. I am pretty sure phone reservations are very common and no one would see there ALERT without one. I only saw it, after the fact, when I went on there website. I don't know when they swayed from the KOA cancellation policy.
While speaking to them about this my friend was told- well you know this is business. We were both told they are always booked and very busy and I even renewed my KOA card. Can't see that they would have had a problem re-booking the sites. Confirmation numbers [protected] and [protected].
Desired outcome: We would like refunds. Due to the high rise in fuel since 4/3/22 it would cost us each about $600.00 there and back. All 4 of us are retired and on fixed incomes.
Handicap accessible bathroom etc
We had recently stayed mercer Grove City koa it had no electric renting tent spots that were handicap accessible the restrooms were not handicap accessible had a big step not handicap stalls not hand rails no handicap accessible showers not even a handicap rails to hold on to so handicap friendly Terran outdoors my father couldn't even stay long do to these issues I am sure many others as well I will never come back to this facility until these issues are corrected if they get corrected
Desired outcome: The best outcome would be for this facility to fix these issues make the place more handicap accessible in these common areas the bathroom is a really big issue
Mercer Grove City koa restroom is not handicap accessible bathroom bathroom stalls and showers and doorway in
Recent KOA stays
We just returned from a 3 week trip from Pennsylvania to Texas. We stayed at 5 different KOA campgrounds along the way. 3 of the 5 were not up to what we expect from a KOA. We’ve been rving for 22 years and always choose KOA campgrounds when possible. The grounds were dirty, we had patio sites that were dirty and so much stuff on it you really couldn’t use it. The temperatures were in the 90’s and the pools were green…not murky….emerald green! The 3 we were disappointed in were: St.Louis West, Missouri. KOA Little Rock I-40
And Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana.
We also stayed at Flatwood KOA in West Virginia and Sweetwater Tennessee KOA. Both were fine and as we’ve expected in the past.
I’ve never written a review but this was a long awaited trip and carefully planned. I thought it should be reported…

Campground stay
First I want to say that we have stayed at Harpers Ferry KOA many times and it’s always been a great experience. We recently reserved an RV site June 20-23. When reserving our space I chose the location with 50 amp service, gravel site, and close proximity to the store. We have not had a bad site in past anywhere we were so I didn’t pay to lock in our site. With diesel fuel rising higher every day we were not sure if we would be able to visit more than once this year so for this reason we didn’t purchase a Value Reward. This being said when we arrived I found that we were given site #45. This site wasn’t where I had expected in the row adjacent to the store. It was in fact several rows back in the middle in an area which was almost full. The young man who waited on me was fairly rude. I explained that I thought I had reserved in the row near the store and to the left. He had no explanation as to why I was given a site near the back. Either way I asked if we could have a site in the row to the left of the store as our daughter was given a site in this area. I even stated that we would only run one ac in order to use 30 amp service. This area had many empty spaces. He said I could only have a choice of 2 sites in the row behind our daughter. One was an unlevel site and the other on the end of the row. When I asked if all of the other sites were rented he said yes. I paid for the end site #89 and before leaving the office asked if I could have a calendar or welcome bag. The employee very rudely said “Did you pay in advance “. When we left on the 23rd none of the sites had been taken. My daughter also asked when she arrived for a welcome bag as this was their first time camping at your KOA. She said she was told she wasn’t a Value Reward member and wasn’t given one. She stated the young man waiting on her was very rude. We not only camped ourselves but encouraged our daughter to rent an rv site and 2 daughters to rent cabins. So in essence we brought you 4 separate reservations this past week. We would love to continue camping at your facility however if this is the campground experience we need to re evaluate our choices. I am making you aware in hopes that one disappointing stay doesn’t mean they would all be this way.
Camp site double booked. The host was very rude and basically asked us to leave.
We pulled to the Cloverdale koa June 16 around 830for father's day weekend. Found our site was double booked. The camp grounds were very empty. I called both after hours numbers, both mail boxes were full. We backed into a open site for the night with hookups on the wrong side.
The next morning my son's and I went to the front desk where we were met by a lady with no regards for the mis hap.
I told her I expected a more for the money it costs, she asked if I looked around at prices and if so would I like a refund! Very rude.
I told her I work on hard for our money and she interrupted me and began telling things from her side of the "desk"
She then tried to move us to yet another full site, again campground somewhat empty, it was like she really didn't know or care.
After she made listen to her side.. as I sat there, not saying a word just so she would stop talking about herself.
She made us feel like she was holding our trip hostage. Finally she found us a site.
No apologies, compensation, extremely unprofessional, when she is supposed to be the host and be hospitable, providing a service I'm paying for. I am completely disappointed in this lady entitled attitude like she owns the place and doing us a favor while holding herself in very high regards. I am extremely disappointed and will not be returning with this lady present.
Desired outcome: 2 nights compensation and the host be held accountable not only for her double booking and not knowing who was camped where, but the rude entitled behavior needs to be checked. She is providing a service not the other way around.
Damage to our truck
6/10/2022
KOA East Asheville
We booked a campsite in February of this year for 6/10/2022-6/14/2022. Upon arrival, we were directed to a campsite. The site was extremely too small for our 44’ 5th wheel due to the huge oak tree that was up against the site. While my husband was backing the camper into the site, the camper was jostled by the large roots of the tree growing on top of the ground. This caused our camper to hit the cab of our 2022 Dodge Ram 3500, causing a huge dent. We were so close to the tree on one side and another camper on the other side, that we felt we had no room at all. This site should never be assigned to a camper as large as ours. We filed a report with the front office and we’re told that KOA insurance would do nothing since a KOA employee was not driving our truck. Why would a KOA employee be driving our truck?!? This makes no sense! We camp there very often and have never had an issue before. We are very disappointed and hope this isn’t a sign of things to come for this awesome campground!
Desired outcome: We would like for the company to please check out these sites and make sure they are suitable for larger campers. Also, we would like to know why KOA insurance can’t help us with this matter. Any compensation would be appreciated.
Ripped off
We reserved a cabin for four nights, and when we called to cancel, we were told that we could not get a refund and our $600 would be stolen from us. The staff at KOA in Holly, MI were extremely rude about it and refused to connect us with a manager. I would never give another dime to a KOA campground again and will make sure to tell everyone I know what a con this company is.
Desired outcome: Total refund or else I will seek legal recourse.
Prizer Point
This place has become a complete disaster. They have grown so much adding to the place that the will not hire enough staff to take care of the area. Bathrooms are nasty. Trash every where. Trash not being picked up. Not keeping the area mowed. Keeping a boat hostage. This goes back to one person Management of the grounds. Tiffany.
she also is also rude. makes up rules as she goes. Picks a chooses who she is going to Terrorize for the day. She had no people skills what so ever.
Lastly they have really over priced their selfs.
Desired outcome: Better Grounds managementConsistency Stop penning people to deathAnd reasonably priced stays
Complaint about the owners of lake milton/ berlin koa
Hi
I wanted to file a complaint about the owners of The Lake Milton/ Berlin. Ohio KOA
We used to be seasonal campers at this location but left because of the way the owners treat people They treat seasonal campers very bad they are always making up new rules and treating people like children. They do not want seasonal people hanging out with other seasonal sites. If you have more then 10 people at your site they try to make you rent a pavilion to use we already pay thousands of dollars for our sites. This is just one example of how they treat seasonal sites. They take property off of seasonal sites when the people are not even there. There was a a lot of seasonal people that left after last season because of the way they were treated. The owners are always coming up with new fees for things i could list many other things but it would take to long.
Thanks for your time

Koa Madeira Beach,St. Petersburg Fl
4/16/22 When we arrived at the KOA in Madeira Beach, St. Pete’s we were checked in. They had an employee escort us to our spot. The gentleman helped my husband get the camper aligned how we wanted it. On the next day I received a call while at an event and they stated that WE had parked in the wrong site. He said we needed to return to the campground to move our RV. I was very upset due to it was very inconvenient and it was there fault. I reminded the person on the phone that their employee escorted us to the site. He stated that they had new employees and things happen. We had to leave the event we were at and go back and move our RV! This caused us to miss our event we had planned and ruin our evening. Very inconvenient and poor customer service! This should not happen to anyone! Mind you we were not compensated!
Desired outcome: We should at least get a night free at another KOA. Time losses, inconvenience, missed event, etc…
Failure to honor advertised pricing
Arrived to the Myrtle Beach KOA; advertised price was $76.30 per night plus tax. When my husband went to check in, he was charged $106/night. I screen shot the price we were expecting to pay and when the desk clerk was questioned about it she stated the pricing on the app is different than if the front desk takes the reservation. Funny thing is, they have...
