Kampgrounds Of America [KOA] Butler Mohican KOA

We have stayed at a number of KOA's and this was the last straw for us. On a recent trip to Niagara Falls, we stopped for several days at the Butler Mohican KOA in Butler, Ohio. It was the worst. The owners, Terri and Dan Wiencek were absolutely clueless regarding the running of a campground. When we arrived, there was no one in sight. The KOA Campground Store Sign listed the hours of operation from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Since we were told that check-in was after two p.m. that is when we arrived. Another sign on the store specified 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. as the hours of operation. No one was around when we got there. It was like a ghost town and mind you this was during the summer season? Since there wasn't anyone around and there was not any sight paperwork left for us, we chose a slot. We attempted to get settled in when a big oaf of a man, Jerry was dictating what we should do, where we should park and questioning who we were and what were we doing on the premises? When the office did finally open (mind you two hours later), an older gal was whining about having to change our slot in the Kampsight computer and why couldn't we have just waited. We finally settled in and realized that the campground was a mess and could not understand how KOA had given this campground a President's Award with the shape it was in. The owners and the staff need a course in customer service because they simply don't have any. What a disappointment! I could have stayed at a truck stop and gotten better service! L.S.S.

Kampgrounds Of America [KOA] rude staff

koa / seattle in the city of kent is the worst rv park i have visited. they are very uptight and inflexible. we pulled in a few minutes after 11am and were informed of their 12 check-in time. we asked to check availability and view the grounds. after that we asked if we could park rv in their spacious parking lot and take our car to go eat and return for the check-in time rather than pay a $20 early check in fee. we asked if since we were so close to check in they would make any concessions they said no. and were told we needed to vacate the premises they didn't appreciate us trying to stall until the noon check in time. we were dumbfounded as we just rolled in after driving all night and were trying to get our bearings in a city we never had visited. as we looked at a map we were told if we didn't leave immediately they would call a tow truck. we were treated as trespassers rather than customers. i will avoid koa as a whole if they allow operators such as these to bear their company name

We recently stayed at the KOA in Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain. It seemed as though everytime we turned around, someone was giving a notice on how to "behave". My friend went inside to use the bathroom, told his wife to look out to see the fire and it was already extinguished! He should have peed outside! We left our dog in the camper while we went to the top of Whiteface and got a card for leaving him unattended. Shouldnt all places be dog friendly if thats the case? We wouldve gotten a card for leaving our dog in a vehicle! NEVER AGAIN will I camp at a KOA. After $42 a night! and the sites were way too close, I will be more than happy to stay in a state park.

Yeah they are one of the rudest KOA owners in the system. It's a known fact via word of mouth from both campers and work kampers. They should have their franchise revoked as they are an embarassment to the brand.

So, you were early. And you did not want to pay the early check in fee. And you decided to park in the registration area for an hour while you walked around the campground. And you hassled the staff until they asked you to leave. And THEY were rude? Get a grip.

I lived in Seattle for many years and heard stories about this place, especially the owners. Last summer I worked with a woman and her son who had worked there and they said the same thing. Other campers who have stayed there also have complained as they would arrive in other KOAs wher I have worked since 2006.
Also, when you look at job postings available on a KOA web site they always have openings because they obviously cannot keep employees due to their rudeness.

Yes they were rude but check in time is 12. Were they refusing to let you pay the early check in fee?

Kampgrounds Of America [KOA] Credit Card fraud

I was in this campground one year earlier and have never been back. 8 months later i get a charge on my credit card for services i did not do. I WASNT EVEN THERE! The campground was dirty and not well kept. The office was not what i thought a KOA stood for. Always at every other KOA i have been at they are clean and the grounds well kept and personnel always happy and supportive. So after i get the bill they would put me on hold (more than 10 minutes) and say we are very busy call later. I finally called again after they claimed they would call and stated my claim that charges on my credit card were not mine or authorized when the reply was " What took you so long to call?" They said that no one has my credit card number on file or the ability to access it. Then they said that someone rented the campsite for a tent and it just happened to be the same number i rented. The odd thing was that site is for full hookup for an rv. This site is rv only. Tent camps are in a different area. Then i was told they had the same last name and the computer put out my name and credit card number. But i was told you dont have it stored or on file? Well maybe an employee hit the wrong button and charged you. Back to my last question? Well i will look into it and reimburse you. But how can you if you dont have my credit card number on file or stored? I will credit you within 48 hours. One other puzzling issue is how can you be charging someone else's credit card when you require, Name, address, zip code, city and drivers license at check in? So as you see if you use this place GOOD LUCK! Just dont go and save the aggrivation and the charges. It is dirty and NOT what you see on the advertisement.

Kampgrounds Of America [KOA] Rotten service and unclean

Unfriendly people and no ventilation in any building even with 100+ degree temps. KOA should have labeled island campsite as Duck Poop Island. Ducks everywhere. In 100+ degree temps, some person decided he needs a campfire. Small wind blew smoke and ash into our tent. Hard to breath. Someone has got a skunk to spray. The smell is all over the campground. I will never stay or recommend this campground to anyone. They should lose their franchise because of filth and of making people camp in duck poop.

Kampgrounds Of America [KOA] RUDE

I recently stayed at the KOA in Granger and do not recommend it to anyone. It was my son's birthday and I took him and three kids there on May 24, 2008. I was hasseled by the owners for three days over little things. We brushed the dog outside and they screamed about that. A boy picked a leaf off a tree and the owner Patricia got in his face and screamed, "Are you nuts!" The first day we were there the same boy picked up a golf ball in the store that was for sell and Patricia screamed, "See with your eyes!" She then snatched it out of his hand. Thomas the other owner, screamed at us for jumping in the pool. I understand there are rules but these people have no social skills at all and should not be dealing with the public. Thomas hung over me and yelled and yelled and yelled to embarrass me. I could go on and on but the truth is it was my son's birthday and she and Thomas ruined it. We went home early because we were afraid to move. The boy that Patricia yelled in the face of several times asked to go home before us. As I was leaving she sarcastically said, Did you collect all of your kids?" I will never go back. I need to know who to write the full complaint to. [protected]@iusb.edu

I made a reservation and cancelled it within 20 minutes. They lied and said they didn't receive my call about the cancellation and when I called back because I hadn't gotten a confirmation of cancellation, they said a voicemail message was adequate cancellation...furthermore they hadn't received the message anyway. She was rude and hateful and I have NEVER had that kind of experience with a KOA before. It was AWFUL!

My husband and I have stayed in many KOS's and have always enjoyed our stay. Until we stayed in the KOA in Cherokee, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mts. We saw the video on the net and thought it looked amazing. I do not know where the pictures were taken that they show you on the net. but let me just say it was the BIGGEST let down of our vacation. It was the dirtiest and the the staff was almost never seen. The pools were GREEN, one staff member said that he has been after the manager to do something about it for along time. He said "I would not let a duck swim in it". We had plans to stay for 4 nights but checked out 2 days early. We were refunded our monies but it sure was a let down and we had to make other plans for the rest of our stay. They had caution tape on the cabin next to us where the embankment had fallen and it was unsafe. They had very young KIDS taking care of the cleaning and other jobs around the camp. They seemed to like riding a round in the golf carts more than doing what they were there for and that was to work. I would not go back or tell any one to go there. IT WAS GROSS !

I know how you feel about KOA . I had problems with the Headquarters... I paid for a membership . They have no record of my membership. Even after showing when & where I paid for it. I recommend not staying at any of their kampgrounds.. I have membership in Camp Club USA and have never had a problem.

This campground had construction going on the complete time that we were there. We were not told when making the reservation. We had to listen to big trucks and noise the complete time that we were there. You couldn't hear the television even when you could get a station or hear yourself talk. Also it didn't do anything for the nose with all the dust or for...

We stayed at the Springfield, IL KOA. It was a nightmare. During our stay we were sitting at the table in our camper and I turned off the Air Conditioner as I was talking on my cellphone. We were eating lunch and the TV was NOT on. The TV started to smoke so I quickly unplugged it. The breaker box started to smoke so I shut off all the power. I went...
