Very bad customer service from the sales department!
Very bad customer service from the sales department! The finance department tries too hard to sell you things you don't want. They gave me wrong paperwork. I bought a model that wasn't what I wanted or thought I was getting. When I tried to get the issues fixed, the general manager told me they were unwilling to listen and help. Go to another dealership! However, I do appreciate all that Subaru as a manufacturer has to offer.
I got a safety recall notice for my Ioniq Hybrid, so I scheduled it for this place (@ 7am)
I got a safety recall notice for my Ioniq Hybrid, so I scheduled it for this place (@ 7am). It took them 20 minutes to get to me, another 10 minutes to take down all my info, and THEN they hit me up with over $1k worth of "scheduled service" recommendations. After declining the extra work, the guy immediately comes back saying the safety recall part is out of stock, and they'll call me down the road if/when it arrives. I can't shake the feeling that the "recall notice" is just a ploy to get vehicles in for service, and when drivers don't fall for it, they're all like "oops, can't help ya, now beat it." For something called a "service department," their service couldn't have been any worse, although they did a fantastic job of wasting my time. I will never set foot in this place again ... zero stars.
This dealership sells you a lemon and lies to make you keep the car
This dealership sells you a lemon and lies to make you keep the car. Joe Deluca and Joe Dolin are both people I regret working with. It's hard to believe they still have their positions with so much dishonesty and lack of professionalism. I bought a 2013 Ford Focus that I've had for five months. I'm about to drop it off at the dealership for the second time in two weeks. The famous transmission problem they said wasn't a problem has started happening. This car shouldn't have been on their lot after reading the horror stories about these cars and their bad transmissions. Shame on me for buying from Kearny Mesa Huyndai. Shame on them for knowingly selling me a lemon and lying when I brought it up. Ford did the same thing when they sold it in 2013. Shame on y'all.
The last week and a half I had the worst experience with the Service Department
The last week and a half I had the worst experience with the Service Department. I brought my 2017 Tucson in for its 50k mile check up, was told the next day that the engine was sludge and needed to be replaced. The person in charge of my case said they had to bring in an inspector to see if Hyundai would cover the engine replacement under warranty. It could take up to three weeks for a decision. They kinda hinted it was my fault 'cause I didn't bring my car in every 5k miles. I hadn't heard from anyone in a week, so I called the person in charge (9/17) to find out he's out of the office until next week. Finally, I left a message for the person taking over from him (had to call another number to find this person) to check for an update on my car. Got a text from this person saying Hyundai already made the decision and won't cover the repair under warranty 'cause of owner neglect. Even though I never missed a checkup and my car didn't show any problems. I asked for a number to appeal this decision, got a number but when I called, they hung up on me. Then after 7pm tonight, the guy taking over called me to say I needed to pay for the rental car. They told me it was covered for 10 days while they figured out the warranty thing. No one contacted me about Hyundai's decision, and I was treated like crap the whole time. After I explained that no one contacted me until I somehow found someone in Services to call me, they said they knew but couldn't do anything about it. Really bad service, dismissive of customers, and they don't keep customers in the loop.
I went to Kearny Mesa Hyundai to get my vehicle serviced and I explained all the issues to the guy at the check-in
I went to Kearny Mesa Hyundai to get my vehicle serviced and I explained all the issues to the guy at the check-in. I had three things that needed to be addressed. First, there was an engine knocking while accelerating. They told me that everything was working fine, but the problem was still there when I drove off the lot. They had my car from Thursday to Wednesday the following week, and I had to rent a car during that time. Second, the paint on the hood was peeling off. I contacted Hyundai for help with the repairs, but they never replied. Lastly, I requested a test to check the connector rod bearing clearances because of a class action lawsuit settlement I received from the manufacturer regarding GDI engine failures. They told me that this test would take more time and money, so they didn't do it. They initially mentioned a $150 diagnostic fee, but they never checked the bearing clearances as promised. I told the service guy that I had already approved the work, but he argued with me and said that nothing was approved. I know for a fact that I approved it, so why wasn't anything done? I decided to pick up my car the next day and paid $75 in service fees. The person at the register asked if I wanted to talk to the manager, but I didn't want to wait for the manager to finish payroll. My paperwork showed that all the fluid levels were good and everything was in working order. However, as I was driving home, the oil light started flickering as I pulled into my driveway. It turns out that the mechanic had drained almost all the oil from my car, and who knows what else they sabotaged for future problems. I had to add over 4 quarts of oil in my driveway. How could a certified mechanic at a dealership miss something like this? It's really disappointing.
I had a terrible experience at Kearny Mesa Hyundai
I had a terrible experience at Kearny Mesa Hyundai. We brought our car in because the radio kept having problems, and also because the weather details were messed up. But when we took it to the shop, they couldn't find the issue. I even had videos of the problem, but they didn't ask for them. Hyundai Corporation told me to bring the car back one more time and explain the situation, so I did. The service writer, ***, was awful. I had an appointment, but I had to ask where my service writer was. They told me I hadn't been helped yet, of course. My car was in the shop for over a week, and I had to follow up multiple times. Finally, he called and said they found a problem with the blind spot camera and needed to order a part. I asked how long it would take, and he wasn't sure. He said he would call me, but he called back and said they ordered the wrong part. I asked about the original problem I brought the car in for, and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. I told him to just put my car back together because it was a long weekend and I wanted to pick it up that night. He agreed and said he would call when it was ready, but he never called. So we decided to go to the dealership since it was close to 5pm and they closed at 6pm. To our surprise, our car was sitting up front, ready to go, without a call. Our service writer never approached us, just gave us a dirty look and continued doing his thing. We waited and waited, and then the *** manager came out and said, "Oh, you're the owners of the car from ***." He handed us the key, and we were shocked that a manager would talk like that. It was completely uncalled for! We checked our car for damage and found a gash on the lower part of the driver's side mirror. This service department is the absolute worst. I filed a formal complaint with Hyundai Motor Corporation because of their horrible customer service.
The service department at Kearny Mesa Hyundai is absolutely terrible, I don't even know where to start
The service department at Kearny Mesa Hyundai is absolutely terrible, I don't even know where to start. I brought my car in because the AC was acting up on and off, and they charged me for a diagnostic. They said they put some dye in it and told me to keep driving it for a few days. I guess that's okay, but honestly, I didn't think they knew what they were doing because they couldn't even recreate the problem themselves. After a few days of the same issue, I called and asked to speak to the service manager. I had some questions about the AC and how the warranty would be billed. He said he would call me back by the end of the day to schedule a second appointment, but he never did. I waited another day, and then another, and tried calling him again. I left a voicemail, but he never called back. It's so frustrating because they hardly ever answer their phone when I do get through, I told them about Mr. Ortiz not calling me back, and they said he was in some offsite meeting. I get it, but it's been three days already, it's scorching hot outside, and all I want is to get my car fixed! Then, out of nowhere, he puts me on hold and Mr. Ortiz himself gets on the line and starts yelling at me, saying I'm harassing his employees. Harassing? Seriously? I couldn't even get a hold of anyone to harass! I told him to say those things to my brother or husband, I dare him. I've never been spoken to like that by someone who's supposed to be a leader, especially when they were the ones in the wrong from the beginning! When I mentioned that I've been waiting for a call back to fix my car, and he didn't have the decency to return my call, he told me, "Lady, just take your car to another dealer!" So now I have to fight the diagnostic charge and find another dealer to take my car to. This dealership should be ashamed of the mess they've created. A man would never be treated this way by Mr. Ortiz. And judging by the number of comments from women here, it's clear that there are some outdated attitudes and macho behavior going on that should have been left in the past by now, especially in 2021.

Kearny Mesa Hyundai told me to fix my Hyundai after a crash caused by the third time it accelerated without me wanting it to
Kearny Mesa Hyundai told me to fix my Hyundai after a crash caused by the third time it accelerated without me wanting it to. Once I got the car fixed, Hyundai Corporate sent me a letter saying they weren't responsible because I got it repaired.
Mesa Subaru
Mesa Subaru. I am disappointed with the service I received from Kearny Mesa Hyundai. I went in for a 12,000 mile oil change and tire rotation, which should have been covered under my 2-year/24,000 mile warranty. However, when I went to pick up my car, they told me I had to pay $124.31. This confused me because I had previously received a 6,000 mile oil change from Kearny Mesa Subaru without having to pay.
I explained to them that the service should be covered under my warranty, but they insisted that I didn't have a warranty and told me to go back to the dealership where I bought the car. So, I went to El Cajon Subaru, the dealership where I purchased the car, and they confirmed that my warranty was on file. They even said that Kearny Mesa should refund me.
However, Kearny Mesa Hyundai has not made any effort to resolve the issue. They keep insisting that it's the dealership's problem and not their responsibility, even though I already paid for and received the service from them. It's frustrating that they are not taking ownership of the situation and trying to find a solution.
Overall, my experience with Kearny Mesa Hyundai has been disappointing. I expected better customer service and a more efficient resolution to this problem. I hope they can rectify the situation and provide the service that I am entitled to under my warranty.
My grandchild wanted to buy a new car from Kearny Mesa Hyundai
My grandchild wanted to buy a new car from Kearny Mesa Hyundai. She just finished high school and has been working for over a year while attending college classes. Kearny Mesa Hyundai had a car she liked. Her father negotiated the price, but when he tried to co-sign, he was overextended and couldn't qualify. So, I ended up co-signing for her.
The salesmen at Kearny Mesa Hyundai kept lying to us repeatedly. They told us we were approved for financing at least 6-7 times during the 3.5 hours I spent at the dealership. Eventually, my grandchild used her limited ATM card to put $3000.00 down payment. Since her card had a limit, she returned the next day on 4/6 to give them a cashier's check for $2,000.00, making a total down payment of $5,000.00.
However, on 4/19, I received a letter stating that they couldn't secure the financing, and my grandchild would have to return the car. Now, they have her $5,000.00, and she's left without a car. I can't comprehend how they can repeatedly lie like this and get away with it. I need your help to ensure that she gets her $5,000.00 back and to document this report, so that others searching for this dealership know that they will be deceived repeatedly.

In October , we decided to trade our 2018 Outback car for a newer model 'cause they were offerin' us money to trade it in
In October , we decided to trade our 2018 Outback car for a newer model 'cause they were offerin' us money to trade it in. We shook hands and agreed with the salesperson (***) with leavin' a small amount of what they were payin' us for the trade-in to put towards the new car to pay for fees... After payin' for all the fees, *** told us we would receive a check for 'bout $1,500 in the mail for the remainder of what they owed us for the trade. He guaranteed us on multiple occasions that we would get a check within 4 weeks. We never got our check and called 'em multiple times 'bout what was goin' on, and they could never give us an answer. This week they finally contacted us to inform us that all of the money we were supposed to have received had been used as a down payment for the car. The finance guy (***) changed the terms of our contract without us realizin' and took all the money that we were supposed to get and put it as a down payment for the car. We never agreed to this and that was not the deal we had originally agreed on and had been promised by ***. *** took advantage of us wantin' to add safety features to the car and changed the whole contract without informin' us and made us sign it as he would talk non-stop 'bout somethin' else in order to distract us and not look at the contract. We told *** many times that we would not trade in our car if we had to put money down, and that is why we agreed to only pay for the fees. Before we drove off with the new car after signin' the contract I even asked *** once more to confirm that I would be gettin' the check in the mail in a few weeks, and he once again guaranteed me that I would. We feel extremely deceived and we feel like we were taken advantage of and that we were lied to. If the terms had changed we should have been informed and no one ever informed us of any change.
12/17- I took my 2016 Hyundai in for a diagnosis due to power loss while driving on the freeway
12/17- I took my 2016 Hyundai in for a diagnosis due to power loss while driving on the freeway. The car slowed down from 80mph to 40mph. The diagnosis indicated that cylinders 1 & 4 needed new spark plugs and coil packs. I approved the repair for $1046 (including the $150 diagnostic fee). 12/22- After consenting to the repair, the garage suggested a compression test to ensure the repair was effective and the engine was fine, as a test drive suggested otherwise. I agreed to the additional $209 test. They promised to update me by day's end, but I heard nothing until 12/27 when I called them. They then informed me the car required a new engine, costing about $11,000. Other agreed-upon repairs and recalls were still pending, I discovered during the call. I withdrew approval for all prior repairs and decided to retrieve the car. The Hyundai dealership and headquarters refused to offer warranty or financial assistance. Extensive research on the 2016 Hyundai revealed that engine failure is a widespread issue. 12/31- At the dealership, I refused to pay the initial $1046 repair fee because it didn't solve the problem and was for an engine that was ultimately a failure. I agreed to pay for the compression test at $209. The service manager applied a 20% discount after stacking two 10% discounts. That was the final offer. I paid $1033.98 on 12/31 for ineffective repairs on an engine that needed replacement. I sold the car back to them for $9500 at a significant loss to avoid further hassle. Hyundai's support for their product doesn't extend beyond the warranty, even with known issues.
2016 Hyundai PHEV
2016 Hyundai PHEV. We've been takin the car in for months complainin about an alert sayin "System is overheatin. Switchin to Hybrid Mode" and the battery mileage goin down (from 26 to 18 miles on a charge). First time we mentioned the problem was on May 20! They had the car from Nov 30 to Dec 13. They checked the chargers (no problems) and since they couldn't see the code, they sent it back home. We took it back in February ***, but they couldn't see the alert. We towed the vehicle in on April 1 - the brakes engaged in the middle of the street with a new alert tellin me to turn the car off, there was a problem with the hybrid system. This made the check engine light come on. Hyundai still couldn't find a problem, but they said the check engine light showed them a history of the codes I've been complainin about for months. During this time, they talked to the engineers and drove the vehicle for a month! We kept askin for a rental/loaner car, but they never gave us one. After a whole month, on April 28 they gave us the car back since they couldn't see the problem. *** told me to bring it right in if it happened again and not to turn the car off. 2 days later, on April 30, the alert came back on, and I drove it straight to them. It was a Saturday when no one could check it and the attendant turned the vehicle off. I left it, cuz I DON'T THINK THIS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE! Today they still have the car and still tryin to figure it out. We're still without a vehicle, no loaner, and now we gotta buy a new vehicle when the prices are super high cuz everyone wants one, there's long waits, and not enough cars. NOT what we wanted. As of today, 86 days without our vehicle! I did contact Hyundai *** Different people called me and made promises they can't keep (like a loaner car). This has been really upsettin, frustratin, and messed up our lives.
In May 2022, I took my 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to Kearny Mesa Hyundai for a recall service
In May 2022, I took my 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to Kearny Mesa Hyundai for a recall service. They said the engine needed to be replaced for the recall problem. I had to leave my car there for almost 2 weeks, but they gave me a loaner car to use in the meantime. On Saturday, July 30, while I was coming back from ***, , my car suddenly stopped and the *** system check light came on. I had to call AAA to tow my car back to ***, but there were no open service departments until Monday, August 1. So, I had to pay for a hotel until then. I had my car towed to the *** Hyundai dealership in ***, but they didn't diagnose it for a whole week. I ended up flying back to *** on the same day. Finally, on Friday, August 5, I borrowed a truck and towed my car back to Kearny Mesa Hyundai in *** where they had replaced the engine. I had to rent a tow bed from U-Haul and pay for 2 extra nights in ***. On Monday, August 8, I brought my car to Kearny Mesa Hyundai's service department. They didn't give me a loaner car this time because they hadn't diagnosed the problem yet. In the first week, they diagnosed my car twice. They first replaced the Hybrid distributors, which cost me $750, and then the 12-volt battery, which cost me $1400. But they told me my car still wasn't working. Since Monday, August 15, they keep saying they don't know what's wrong and that they're contacting Hyundai *** Services for help. It's been 2 weeks and they still won't give me a loaner car. I'm stuck paying for ride services to get around. It's now August *** and they won't give me a loaner car.
I picked up my car
I picked up my car. The AC was working fine, and I didn't have to pay anything this time. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service at Kearny Mesa Hyundai. The staff was helpful, and they fixed the issues with my car. I just hope I don't have to bring it in for AC repairs again in the future.
