Preserving Memories with Legacybox: A Mixed Bag of Experiences
As someone who values preserving memories, I understand the importance of entrusting your precious moments to a service like Legacybox. Reading through various reviews, it's evident that Legacybox has had its highs and lows. While some customers have expressed satisfaction with the digitization process and the emotional impact of reliving old memories, others have faced challenges such as delays, packaging issues, and concerns about customer service. It's heartwarming to see families reunited with long-lost footage, yet disheartening to hear about damaged reels and communication lapses. If you decide to embark on this journey with Legacybox, it's essential to weigh the experiences shared by others and manage your expectations accordingly. Remember, each memory is unique, and the path to preserving it may have its own twists and turns.
Great Customer Service!
I sent in two video reels of some activities that happened almost 50 years ago. I wanted them for an event scheduled for 2 April. When I sent them in, the lead time estimate told me that I should have them back by mid-March. I had received no updates for several weeks, so I called the help line. I was told that they had a large number of videos which had been sent in after the holiday season. After I explained the need for getting these videos done, and that I had sent them in expecting them to be complete by mid-March, they moved the work up and had them done a week ahead of the event. They even made them available online, a service I didn't pay for, so that I would definitely have them on time, regardless of the speed of USPS.
I'm very grateful for their efforts, especially their customer service. And by the way, the videos look great!
Beyond expectations
A bit unsure from the beginning...
All we had were some 8mm home movies from the 1950's, that were continuing to deteriorate in a tote in the garage, along with some family photo's. That's all that was available to show our children and grandchildren about half of their more recent
Family ancestry. Too bad, but we didn't want to lose that too. That's where LEGACYBOX came to our rescue!
The results... beyond any expectation imaginable! We were hoping to simply preserve any thing that could possibly be saved... what we got is truly impressive. The 8mm home movies view better then their originals. So viewable, we simply cannot believe it. The photo's will now be enjoyed by many far... far into the future.
Now is the time for us to start securing family memories for our current and future generations all thanks to LEGACYBOX! And without any of those "unsure" feelings.

Great Experience From Start to Finish
I purchased a Legacybox for my mother's Christmas 2016 gift so that she could finally get all of those VHS-C tapes converted before they further deteriorated. Just a few months later, my father died and my mother misplaced the box. Fast forward to 2019, and I contacted Legacybox customer service about getting another box sent and explaining my situation. I received a prompt reply, and the customer service representative was very understanding and helpful. She sent a new box to me with updated postage for a very small fee. I finally sent away my mother's box to be converted in Christmas 2020, and the entire experience was great. I received regular updates about the status of my tapes, as well as some heads up about quality issues in advance. Although I was understandably hesitant to send my family's priceless tapes in the mail, Legacybox made me feel comfortable through the process. I truly felt cared for by Legacybox.
Satisfied customer Tom
At first I was unsure about sending my treasures away. I Needed to have my films put on something to save them. They were starting to disappear I could not show them on my projector due to them burning. I received the box to send my family movies back quickly. I sent them in quickly I was informed they were received. I was happy that they had arrived. I got concerned when I had limited information but reached out and was continuously updated. It took longer then I was expecting. But with the corrona virus I understood it taking longer then I expected. When I received my package back. I had all my old family movies returned and the thumb nail of family super 8 movies. I immediately plugged the thumb nail into the tv and was immediately behond satisfied the perfect job that was done was amazing. I am so satisfied I will be sending another group of family films soon. I Have thank this company greatly for the wonderful job
Legacybox is wonderful
The experience with Legacybox was seamless; simple & they were excellent at their communication all the way through the process. There was a bit of a "bump in the road", as I had thought that I asked for DVD's but it was done digitally (since I don't have a great handle on computers & such & being older, I was more comfortable with something I could hold/touch (lol)) So, when I emailed them about this, they worked with me to figure out the easiest way to make me happy. I did need to mail back the VHS tapes, but was sent a new box to mail them back & they only charged me for the shipping & handling & not any new processing into the DVD's for me.
Also, Amber set up a time to call me as to avoid confusion in questions that I had when emailing about the issue. She was great. If you email with a question, someone gets back to you very quickly! I had a percentage off which was great & they gave me a refund on one tape that was apparently blank!
Overall... very satisfied & would highly recommend Legacybox to anyone!
Priceless Pictures
I sent Legacy Box over 300+ negatives of pictures my husband took while stationed in Vietnam during the war. He has held onto these pictures for over 55 years. He thought it was about time to have them transferred - we had CD's & a memory stick made. I was a bit nervous to send the only negatives of priceless pictures through the mail & trust that we would get them back. I am so glad I did. Legacy Box provided bar codes for each set of negatives I sent them so we were able to track their progress. Which gave me piece of mind that I knew where they were while not in my possession.
The look on my husband face while viewing these pictures was bitter-sweet. Not only did he take pictures of the base he was station at - he also took pictures of the Vietnamese friends he made and the children he had daily interactions with. I sure do wish there was a way for me to find out who is in some of the pictures.
If you are thinking about sending Legacy Box your precious memories, don't hesitate. DO IT! You wont be disappointed.
Memories Preserved
I had some very old 16mm movies taken with my Father's camera beginning in 1948 through the early 1960's. I had attempted to convert them to VHS tape about 20 years ago, but the quality was not very good. I used an early model VHS tape camera and shot the video from a small screen as I ran the movie film.
I sent the original 16mm film along with my Father-In-Law's old 8mm films to Legacybox and the quality is nicely preserved. I plan to send some 8mm video tapes for processing when I am able to pull those videos from storage.
I have attached a few shots taken from the videos. Me, as a baby, learning to walk (I am now 72 years old), the door to our front room labeled for Christmas 1948, My Grandfather in front of his new house in Mason City, IA in about 1955. A sign from our vacation to the Bandlands in South Dakota in about 1955, and a nice photo of me in Yellowstone Park standing next to a bear. My 8th Grade teacher had a fit when I showed this movie in class stating that my Father was lucky not to have a movie of the bear eating me!
Great Memories!
My family brought to life and it is much easier to enjoy them. I am 84 and I miss my loved ones so
I was a farmers wife and enjoyed the farm life and especially the animals. I wanted to be a vet and this was the closest I could get. I did plenty of vet work on the farm. Delivering calves, foals, puppies, kittens, goats' sewing up cuts, teaching animals not to fear people and so much more. I was given the opportunity to share animal births with children, with their parents willing participation.
There is so much to farming besides shoveling animal poo. Some is fun, some sad when an animal has to be disposed of for it's relief from pain. We raised meat animals and that too was something one had to learn to accept as farm life. It's not easy.
We sold goat milk to parents of children that couldn't survive on anything else including formula. The Hospital sent parents to the farm to see how we kept our animals and see how clean they were kept.
It was hard work and 24/7. Week ends spent shoveling out pens. Summer spent putting in hay and getting ready for winter. The fall was time for putting meat in the freezer. We raised our own chickens, pork, beef, and shevon, turkeys. We put venesin in the freezer and canned it too.
Most of these things ore on film. I can look back and remember it all as well as relive it all.
Thank you for the good work. I still haven't looked at all of them yet. Jean Eimers
Great Value and Great Service
I recently decided to convert over 50 VHS-C tapes to digital and found Legacybox. Their prices were very reasonable. I was initially nervous about sending my family memories away so I decided to order two legacy boxes and break up my order. I paid to upgrade shipping and processing at a really reasonable price as I didn't want to wait too long to receive my tapes back.
The Legacybox website was very transparent regarding processing time for regular processing so the upcharge was well worth it, to me. I placed my order, and within a week, I received the packages. Included was everything I needed to pack up my tapes securely and label each one.
I dropped off my packages and within 7 days I had received receipt confirmations and also received secure emails to the digital files! That conversion was so fast! In another weeks' time I received both boxes back home with all of my tapes and digital CDs of the files for backups, all carefully repackaged and the CDs were bound and labeled to match each tape really nicely.
The conversion worked really well! All of the files play and look as good as a VHS tape, maybe a bit better.
We are so happy with the service that we are preparing to convert all of our photos and negatives to digital next. I highly recommend Legacybox. Don't be cheap, pay for the upgraded shipping and processing if you want faster service, it's well worth it. I'll be giving Legacybox more business soon!
LEGACY BOX DID A FIRST CLASS JOB FOR OUR HISTORICAL SOCIETY, THANK YOU!
Our historical society here in Vermont owns many priceless old reels of citizens - now long passed away, speaking about their lives in the 1800s and early 1900s when they worked on the famous Grand Trunk railroad. Those reels were precious to us but - we had never been able to hear them since we did not have a machine to play the reels! The reels had been recorded in the 40s, 50s, and early 60s. Since then, the reels had languished in a cardboard box inside our museum, unplayed, neglected, and in deteriorating condition. When I first saw the adverts popping up for Legacy box's services I thought 'No. Our reels are too delicate, too precious, and too rare to send to Legacy Box for processing.". I ummed and awwed over it for weeks, then, in the end, took a decision to 'trust' the reels to Legacy Box. Believe me, as president of the Island Pond Historical society this was not a decision I took lightly. I am so glad that I did. In no time at all the reels arrived at Legacy Box, were put onto CD's, and sent back to me, all perfect, and in perfect condition. This transaction could not have been smoother, it could not have been more professional, and the entire matter was expertly dealt with, efficiently handled, safely, and at the lowest cost imaginable. I will continue to use Legacy Box and am very happy to trust this company with even the most fragile and deteriorated of our rare reels. This is an exceptional service with first class customer care service, too, and they're fast! Please, have no hesitation in sending this company your most precious items, they really care, and they do a really wonderful job. Sharon Biron, President of the Island Pond Historical Society, Vermont.
Terrible Experience with Legacybox: Empty Box, Outdated Policy, and Poor Customer Service
I had a terrible experience with Legacybox. I decided to order a 40 item box for my elderly siblings and me, as we wanted to get some old movies out of our closets and attics. I was planning to surprise them over Thanksgiving, so I ordered the box a few weeks in advance. However, when the box arrived, it was empty. None of us could find our films, although we all assumed we had them.
I contacted Legacybox's customer service, but I was not impressed. The person I spoke to didn't seem to care about my problem at all. He told me that if I wanted to return the empty box, I would have to pay a $200 restocking fee. I was shocked! I didn't understand why I had to pay so much money for returning an empty box. The order was less than a month old, and their policy seemed so outdated and unfair.
The representative's only advice was for me to scrounge around friends and family to come up with 40 items. I didn't think that was a reasonable solution, so I asked at least to be credited back to the current holiday sales pricing I had seen bombarding my inbox. To my dismay, he told me I could not do that. I had paid double the current sale price just a few weeks earlier, and now I could not even return the empty box without losing a significant amount of money. It was outrageous!
Finally, the representative used a typical technique to get me off the phone. He said he would send my complaint to the billing department and maybe they could do something for me. However, I never heard back from anyone, which was hugely disappointing.
Legacybox is NOT customer centric. I feel like their policy is archaic, and they are taking advantage of their elderly customer base. I would not recommend using their services to anyone. Adam Boeselager and Nick Macco, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Have you ever purchased something from Amazon and had to return it? Because their customer service is so much better than yours!
In conclusion, I would give Legacybox less than 1 star if I could. I feel like I wasted my money and got nothing in return. Don't make the same mistake as me!
Disappointing experience with LegacyBox's video transfer service
So, I just wanted to share my thoughts on LegacyBox. Let me tell you, my experience was not great at all. I was expecting the world from them, as they claim to have the latest and greatest technology in preserving videos. But honestly, the videos I received back were less than impressive. I had to wait over two months for the videos to arrive. I mean, patience is key, but that was a long wait.
When I finally received my videos, I was so excited to watch them. But to my disappointment, the copies were not that different from watching on a VHS player at home. In fact, they were probably worse than what I could have done myself. And don't even get me started on the volume level. It was completely unacceptable. Mind you, all of my VHS videos are from the mid to late 90's, yet all of the videos came back marked "this item has existing damage".
I get it, LegacyBox doesn't claim to restore your videos. But then why make such bold claims about their technology if they're not going to produce better quality videos than what you had before? I shudder to think what would happen if you had any later videos from the 1990s. I highly doubt they could do much to improve the quality then. And as for videos from the 80s, good luck with that!
Another thing that would be really helpful is if they provided a master list invoice of the status of the videos you sent in. Instead, you just get a box with a bunch of tapes labeled "this item has existing damage". It's not really that helpful, is it?
And don't even get me started on how they send you the files via Google Drive. I mean, what's up with that? I had several videos that could not be opened in this application. I had to contact LegacyBox for support on how to properly view/download the files.
Now listen, I know their customer service was good and all, but it seems like not being able to open the files via Google Drive is a recurring issue on their end. They should really figure out a different way to send the files to you. If you're paying for a premium service and fail to deliver the product directly in a package that you can enjoy as is, what's the point?
To sum it up, I would suggest saving your money and hope for your videos. Just go ahead and buy a VHS player yourself. Trust me, it's much less hassle and stress in the long run.
My Disastrous Experience with LegacyBox - Poor Service and Broken Promises
My experience with LegacyBox started out pretty good - they processed half of my order on time and even sent downloads, even though I didn't ask for them. However, things started to go downhill quickly. The other half of my order never arrived, and after trying to contact customer service, they began a long process of attempting to find my home movie and audio tapes. Eventually, they were able to locate my audio tapes and even went as far as to download them for me - but when they tried to send me my home movie, they sent me someone else's order instead!
It only got worse from there. Not only was my home movie never found, but LegacyBox returned my VHS tapes haphazardly, with several tapes not even placed back in their clam cases, and nothing was even closed properly. When I was initially promised half of a refund, it never came. And after months of mistakes and excuses, I was promised a full refund, but this has yet to happen.
What's worse, if you're considering having slides digitized, be warned: they come back in their raw form, with dust and fingerprints all over them! It's almost as if LegacyBox doesn't even care about the quality of their work. If you're looking for a company that will take care of your precious memories, then do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
Even Rush Limbaugh, who endorsed LegacyBox, should reconsider his support for these clowns. The communication on their website stopped halfway through my order, and only resumed after I called them out on their mistakes. I'm grateful that I got my items back, but I never received the DVDs I was promised. With so many other terrible reviews, it's a mystery how LegacyBox has stayed in business for so long.
In conclusion, I would advise anyone considering LegacyBox to stay away. They offer poor service, terrible communication, and have essentially stolen money from me. It's a shame that such a company exists in an industry where people rely on trust and professionalism.
Legacybox Review: Unplayable DVDs & Frustrating Customer Service
Over the summer, I filmed my niece's wedding with my trusty digital DV camcorder. However, the backup recording on my new Samsung note phone was proving to be problematic and caused me to turn to Legacybox for assistance. I was hoping that their conversion services could solve my issue and ultimately provide me with playable DVDs of the wedding. Unfortunately, things did not go as smoothly as I had hoped.
Upon receiving my DVDs from Legacybox, I discovered that one of them was unplayable, which was naturally the recording of the wedding. I reached out to their customer support to get the URL for a digital copy of the wedding, as well as request a playable version of the damaged DVD. Although I mentioned that I wouldn't need the replacement copy if the digital download was successful, the customer support representative who received my call seemed to misunderstand and told me that they would still be sending me the new DVD. Sadly, I never received the replacement copy, and after waiting for several weeks, I decided to give up on getting one.
In better news, the Legacybox copy that I did receive contained the first six minutes of the wedding recording which played perfectly on my two different DV camcorders. But the problem was that the copy provided was incomplete and unsatisfactory.
After venting my frustration, I decided to try out an inexpensive over-the-counter video capture program called Nero to attempt to salvage the damaged DVD. Thankfully, the program was simple and worked exceptionally well, allowing me to have a usable copy of the wedding in a playable format. Overall, my experience with Legacybox had been thoroughly unsatisfactory, and I am not pleased with the job they did.
I had expected a lot more from Legacybox for the not-so-insignificant amount that I paid for the conversion services of the two DV tapes. Legacybox's shoddy job had left me feeling disgusted and thoroughly disappointed. While I'm sure there are some satisfied customers out there, I cannot recommend their service to anyone based on my personal experience. I know I will be warning my friends and family members to avoid them unless they improve their standards.
Mixed experience: Legacybox Review for 8mm home movie films
I have to say, I was pretty excited to try out Legacybox to transfer some family movie films that we had stored away for years. I had heard some pretty good things about their services, so I thought I would give them a try. My late father had been a pretty prolific amateur filmmaker back in the 1970s, always capturing our family vacations and special events. After his passing, I wanted to preserve those memories and share them with my own children, who had never met their grandfather.
When I sent in my 5 films, I had high expectations. I had already scanned some 35mm slides with a Minolta scanner and got great results. I figured that the movie film would be a similar process, with a focus on getting the image in the frame, exposing properly, and so on. The final product would be a digital copy of that original film, which I could then store on my computer or share with family members.
However, I wasn't entirely happy with the results I got back from Legacybox. For starters, the images were overexposed and out of focus, which was frustrating considering I had my own camcorder copies to compare them to. While they did offer to do a second run and "meet my expectations", the resulting images were somewhat enlarged and resulted in significant cropping, which cut off about 20% of the left side of the image.
I will admit that I was pretty furious at this point. Legacybox offered to do a third run, which was better in terms of focus, but by that point, several film breaks had occurred and disrupted the continuity in a few places. Also, the final product had some frame jumping, where the image suddenly became displaced either vertically or horizontally by 1/4 to 1/3 of the frame. While this didn't happen all the time, it was still pretty annoying.
Overall, I think Legacybox might be good for some copying services, but based on my experience with 8mm movies, I would be hesitant to use them again. Plus, after 3 processing runs, they stopped responding to my emails, which was frustrating. All in all, I think I'll look elsewhere if I have more family movies to transfer in the future.
My Experience with Legacy Box: Lack of Human Touch and Damaged Tapes
So I was thinking about digitizing my old VHS tapes, and I found Legacy Box's website. On their website, they mentioned that they are digitizing people's most precious memories. I was pretty excited about it, so I sent in 8 VHS tapes and I even wrote a heartfelt thank you note to show how much it meant to me. However, my experience with Legacy Box wasn't the best, and here's why.
First of all, I was a bit confused about the timeline. I didn't know that it would take 2 months to digitize my VHS tapes. I really wanted to give the digital files to my dad for Father's Day, which was three weeks away from the day I sent in my tapes. Unfortunately, my tapes sat in the "checked-in" status for nearly three weeks. I had to call Legacy Box's customer service several times to get updates on when my tapes could be digitized. It was frustrating, but I just had to wait for them to finish their work.
Secondly, there was a lack of a human touch, which I didn't really appreciate. Out of the 8 VHS tapes, six of them were old cartoons and movies. I don't blame Legacy Box for that because it wasn't their responsibility. However, I was a bit disappointed because I was expecting to share my family's precious moments with them. I wish someone would have discussed the issue with me before sending me digitized files of content that I could find on Youtube or Netflix. I think that a service dealing with people's precious memories should have a higher level of EQ and human touch.
Lastly, some of the tapes were damaged. Out of the two remaining tapes, one of them only had four minutes of actual viewable content out of nearly two hours of footage. I paid full price for this, which was pretty disappointing. I wish someone had contacted me to discuss the options instead of just sending me a digital file with one hour and 45 minutes of a blank screen. Only one out of eight videos came out good, which is around 12.5%.
Personal Opinion:
If you are sure of what you have on your VHS tapes and know that they are still in good condition, then Legacy Box is probably a good service for you. However, if you have old VHS tapes with uncertain content or unknown quality, I wouldn't recommend this service. It's a bit of a hassle and takes a lot of time and money. Overall, I think Legacy Box could use some improvements to better understand their customer's needs and provide a more personalized experience.
Warning: Do not use Legacybox.com for your memories-turned-DVD needs!
Legacybox.com was a total disaster for me! I had high hopes for the service because I wanted to give my grandparents the chance to see their grandkids regularly, despite them not being able to travel anymore. So, I took the time to go over all of the tapes and carefully chose 20 that I wanted to be made into four sets of DVDs. I spent more than 100 hours on this task alone, hoping that it would be a cherished and special gift for my grandparents. But Legacy Box completely messed it up and now they refuse to take responsibility for their mistake.
When I received the DVDs in the mail, I opened the box to find that the discs were separated into four sets. I gift-wrapped each set and sent them off to my grandparents for Christmas. But a month later, I started receiving messages from them saying that they had multiple copies of the same DVD in their sets! I was so disappointed and annoyed that Legacy Box could make such an error, especially after separately wrapping the four sets.
I immediately contacted Legacy Box and told them about their mistake. I even asked them to remake the DVDs and send them to my grandparents in their proper sets. But their response was not helpful! They told me that they sent me four copies of each tape, as I had ordered, and that they had fulfilled their obligation. I tried to explain to them that they had sent me four individually wrapped sets, and that it was logical for me not to open them and mix up the sets. But they just kept insisting that they had done everything correctly.
To make matters worse, they told me that it was my responsibility to pay for new DVDs and for any shipping that might be involved if I wanted them to redo the sets. I had already paid close to $1000 for their service, and yet they expected me to pay more for their mistake! I also had to go through the laborious task of reassembling the sets, which should have been their responsibility in the first place. I was so upset with the way they handled the situation, and I will make sure to let everyone know about my terrible experience with them.
I would not recommend Legacy Box to anyone! If you're looking for a service that will convert your memories into DVDs, look elsewhere!
Legacybox Review: Great Idea, Poor Execution - Our Package of Memories is Missing!
We really love the idea of Legacybox as it is the perfect gift to give our daughters. In today's world, it's almost impossible to purchase the old formats of 8mm tapes, old home movie reels and the like, let alone divide them up between family members. But with Legacybox, we can preserve our precious family memories and pass them down to future generations. After paying the $175, we received the Legacybox within just a couple of days, which was really impressive. My wife had a tough time deciding on what to send as there is a limit of ten items. However, I reassured her that we can always send more to be converted if the initial tapes don't contain everything she wanted. After carefully selecting the most important memories she wanted to preserve, she labeled and packaged them up and sent them off.
Our package, along with the tracking code 1ze***, arrived at their facility in Chattanooga, TN over three months ago, on May 19th to be precise. As of today, August 23rd, we've been trying to get an update on our package of films and tapes for the past six weeks. It's been frustrating dealing with the customer service folks at Legacybox as they all seem to be reading from a prepared script. They can't seem to give us any concrete updates and it's obvious they are limited in the scope of their search abilities. Today, my wife was speaking to a "Hayden" who suggested that their facility is really big and it's difficult to carry out a search for our package. This irked me a great deal as I do not believe their facility is that big. According to their Google listing, the facility only has 40 parking spaces. This means they are not able to capture the attention of more than 40 people, in order to locate one of the ten items, all of which have an order number associated with them. To me, this indicates that something is seriously wrong in management - either the employees are not motivated or they lack enough training or they need to come up with a better system of ensuring everything is kept organized.
We don't think they disposed of our package as Legacybox doesn't dispose of this type of material. They are supposed to return the originals with the copies, so we remain hopeful. Eventually, Legacybox refunded our money, which is a small consolation for the loss of our memories. We don't need to talk about how important these memories are to us since it's all our family stuff that has no value to anyone but us, but is priceless to us. We really want our package of precious memories back and we are hopeful that someone from Legacybox will see this and light a fire under whomever it takes to get Order #*** returned to us. In the meantime, we will be posting this review everywhere we can, except Google, since Legacybox cannot be reviewed there for some reason.
Disappointing Experience with LegacyBox's Transfer Service: A Review
I wanted to share my experience with LegacyBox and let you know that I was disappointed with their service. Their website made it seem like their technicians were the best in the business and that their service was top-notch. They even had a half-price offer, so I thought it was the perfect time for me to try their service. I was really looking forward to being able to preserve my precious memories by having them transferred to digital format.
The box I received from LegacyBox was well-labeled with barcodes and included a helpful instruction booklet. I followed the instructions carefully, labeling my tapes and preparing them for shipment. I sent back 23 tapes, 22 of which were recorded on a Sony camcorder in Hi8 format, and one VHS tape. I kept my tapes in great condition, and they were stored in a smoke-free and air-conditioned home.
After a few weeks, I received all of my original tapes back along with one thumb drive containing all of my digital transfers. However, I soon realized that something was off. LegacyBox sent me an email saying that one or more of my tapes arrived in bad condition but didn't specify which tapes or the nature of the problem. Despite this, they still charged me for those tapes.
The second issue I noticed was that they fit all 22 videos onto a small thumb drive which seemed impossible. Soon after plugging in the drive, I found out why the video quality was significantly compressed, and nowhere near the crisp, vibrant quality that my master tapes had.
I discovered an even bigger problem when I was going through the transferred videos. Sixteen of my Hi8 tapes were meant to be in 4:3 aspect ratio used on old televisions, but the remaining six were recorded in the newer 16:9 aspect ratio. To my disappointment, their technicians did not check the aspect ratio and transferred all six of the 16:9 tapes in the wrong 4:3 ratio, making everyone in the videos look squished. Professional technicians? I think not!
I decided to email LegacyBox and they promptly replied with a polite message. I sent them back the six tapes that were transferred in the wrong aspect ratio, and they promised to fix the issue. However, after a week or two had gone by, I received my tapes back, but they were still in the wrong aspect ratio.
At that point, I realized that they were unable to perform their duties correctly, and I requested a refund for those six tapes. LegacyBox did accept responsibility for their mistake and refunded me. However, there was no attempt to keep my business. In addition, unhappy with the quality of the transferred videos, I bought a firewire-to-lightning adapter and transferred all 22 Hi8 tapes myself. To my surprise, none of my tapes were damaged, and the uncompressed transfers turned out fantastic, with much better picture and sound.
Finally, their claim of my bad VHS master tape was not valid. They didn't even adjust the tracking, which is a rookie mistake in VHS transfer. Expert technicians would have adjusted the tracking at Step One! I transferred the tape myself and it came out fine.
To summarize, I do not recommend LegacyBox and I strongly suggest that you either do it yourself or hire someone competent with a camcorder and a computer to do it. Their service is not worth the exorbitant price, and their quality is inferior to what you can do yourself.

Tremendously Disappointed / Waste of Money / DO NOT USE!
Just look at all these recent reviews (sort by newest to oldest). The only consolation is that I now see that I am not alone...I just wish I had come across this site earlier...
Instead of writing a review, I'll share my experiences and feeback that I provided Legacybox. The hope was that they would at least try and make things right, and/or offer a refund. But no, instead they chose to argue and refuse a refund; so I'm out the $250-$300 I paid.(I don't exactly remember as it's been SO long since they took my money!).
Feedback to Legacybox follows...
It pains me to write this but as a business owner who appreciates and values the feedback we receive from our customers, I felt this worth sharing. I hope you feel the same...
In short, I am tremendously disappointed with the outcome of my order.
When I found you online and submitted my tapes, I was super excited about having my old tapes digitized. While I was aware that you all were having challenges with the labor market, I understood and was patient, even though it took several additional weeks beyond the original extended estimate to have my tapes digitized.
Unfortunately, however, that would be the least of my issues. The quality of work overall did not meet my lowered expectations.
A few of examples include:
1. The video was not cropped properly. The portion that was digitized was raised off-center from the viewable area.
2. The recordings in many cases extended well beyond the recorded portion of the tape. For example, a tape I sent in may have only had 20 minutes worth of recorded video, however what I got back was an hour+ file, with the back 40 minutes just blank blue screen. It would not have been difficult for your technicians to simply scrub the video and cut to the end point.
3. The overall quality of the recordings were subpar. Most of the tapes I sent in were digital and and of high quality and I should not have experienced (much of) a degradation in quality. However for whatever reasons the quality of the video digitized was quite a bit worse than the source data, and in many instances there were a lot of digital artifacts in the video.
4. You all digitized the recordings without consideration to their aspect ratio. For example I had tapes that had a combination of recordings at a standard 4:3 ratio as well as wide-screen recordings recorded at a 16:9 ratio and yet the entire tape was recorded at a 4:3 ratio, meaning all of my 16:9 recordings were compressed.
5. Worst of all, unfortunately, some of the recordings did not include significant portions of the material on the tape. I cannot begin to understand how this could happen.
I was prepared to try and overlook these shortcomings so that I could move on with this project. However once I realized that not all of the material that I submitted and paid for had been digitized I knew that I could not accept this. Today I was able to find the adapter that enables me to connect my camera to my computer so I will start over with this process and do the entire thing myself. As a result of this and #5 above, I would like to respectfully request a refund of my payment. I'm happy to further discuss this with anyone, and hope that you find me taking the time to share this feedback as valuable and helpful so that you all are able to provide a better customer service experience with your future customers.
PS - as if all of these issues I've experienced weren't enough, there are yet two additional final complaints I have yet to share:
1. Apparently there was one piece of media you guys were not able to work with. But instead of proactively refunding the amount I paid for that media, your company policy is to hold on to customer funds and instead offer to digitize some other media, "free of charge"! 1. It's not "free" if the customer paid you, and 2. This makes absolutely no sense as customers will have already provided you with all of their media. I find it bewildering that you don't simply just, by default, refund customers for media that you do not digitize.
2. You all flood your customers' email with an absurd amount of spam! If only you all spent half as much time and effort on your work product as you do trying to lure in unsuspecting customers, you all would be way better off.
Legacybox Review: Disorganized and Unprofessional - A Costly Mistake
When we received our Legacybox, we were hopeful that our treasured photographs would be carefully preserved. As soon as we opened the package, we were impressed with the sturdy, new box and the extra security of its additional outer packaging. It gave us a sense of confidence that our photos were in good hands. The company seemed professional, as promised.
Sorting through 2400 pictures was a considerable task, but we were determined to see the process through. After a few weeks of not hearing from the company, we became concerned. We soon found out that they had stopped the process due to some additional photographs we had sent, above and beyond what we had originally paid for. However, we were never contacted about the balance payment owed.
Once we reached out about the payment, we had to wait an additional 5-6 weeks to receive our Legacybox back. However, when we finally received it, we were in shock. It was nothing like what we had expected from a professional company. An old, oversized and previously used, tapped up corrugated box arrived at our doorstep. It was almost unrecognizable from the package we had originally sent. And inside? It was worse than we could have imagined. All of our picture envelopes were carelessly thrown in below sheets of crinkled brown paper, with no order or organization.
But that wasn't the worse part. We couldn't find the thumb drive. Panic set in. We began to think that maybe it was coming in a separate cover. After sorting through the box again, we found a small gray envelope that had been opened - about the size of a playing card. It had been carelessly tossed among the crinkled paper. We shook the paper and heard a clink. The teeny thumb drive had been somewhere in the midst of this mess.
It was so small, so easily missed. But what on earth? What kind of company operates on this level of disorganization and unprofessionalism? We had just paid over $1000 to have our memories preserved by them, and we were sorely disappointed.
We thought that, with the size of the box we sent, we would have received the thumb drive in its own small Legacybox, easily identifiable and separate from the rest of the clutter. We regretted not reading reviews before making the decision, but we were taken in by the radio ad and our excitement to digitize the 30+ albums we had accumulated over the years.
In conclusion, we advise potential customers to beware of this company. Don't make the same costly mistake that we did. You deserve better, and your memories deserve better.
Legacybox.com Review: Terrible Quality, Poor Service, Not Worth the Money
I recently made a purchase from Legacybox.com and boy, was I disappointed! I decided to transfer 20 of my old films for $160 through Morningsave.com. I have to admit, the delivery and communication by Legacybox was okay, but the quality of the digitizing was terrible and certainly not worth the money I spent.
Just after the work began, I received a notification that some of the media was in a different format, but I thought nothing of it. However, I soon realized that Legacybox did not make an effort to digitize my films in a quality manner. My films were from the 60s through the 80s, and I expected to see grainy effects or darkening to a certain extent. But what I received was way too far from what I had expected from a professional equipment company like Legacybox. The videos were out of focus and poorly lit, with little or no adjustment for anything. Some of the films were not even transferred in their entirety, a clear sign that they didn't give a damn about the quality.
Luckily, I already had digitized these films at home with simple equipment, or else I wouldn't have known how poorly Legacybox treated me. I had high hopes when I saw advertising from Legacybox claiming that they use professional equipment. However, this promise was not fulfilled. I did contact them, and Jessi at Legacybox offered to redo the digitizing, but I declined for fear that they would damage my priceless memories in the future.
I told them that if they desired to give me a refund, that would be fine, or I would write it off as a life lesson. But all I got in response was a note basically blaming Morningsave for the refund. I have to say, this lack of ownership was astonishing to me. If they cared so little about their business, then I can only imagine how poorly they treat their employees who are responsible for the digitization process.
This experience has taught me a valuable lesson: look elsewhere for digitization of your precious memories. I don't want anyone else to be subject to this kind of disappointment.

Legacybox Review: A Tedious Process with Disappointing Results - Go Local Instead
When I got my hands on my family's old slides from the 60s, it was like a blast from the past. I was so excited to see my mom and dad, grandparents, and all my loved ones in their prime. I immediately knew I had to preserve these memories, and Legacybox seemed like the perfect solution.
I must admit, the process of preparing the slides for Legacybox's digitization was tedious. I had to bag them, barcode them, and do some other necessary steps. But I was confident that my precious memories were in good hands, and that I'll soon have them back in a digital format.
However, things started to go downhill after I shipped the slides early in November. Despite receiving email and text notifications about the progress of my order, there were a lot of hiccups along the way. It took them until January to finally ship back my package, and when I opened it, I was shocked to find out that they couldn't digitize the slides!
I had to reach out to them to find out what the heck was going on. They admitted that it was their fault, and that someone should have told me when they received my slides that they "cannot be processed." To make matters worse, they wouldn't even give me a refund for the shipping cost.
I was fuming, to say the least. Their supposed "manager" Khristy was not helpful at all, and I couldn't believe how they can treat their customers like this. They make it sound like they know what they're doing, but the whole process was clearly not thorough enough.
After all that hassle, I decided to ditch Legacybox and find a local place instead. It was cheaper, easier, and they did the job in just one day! It's always better to go local whenever you can.
Now I'm still trying to get a refund from Legacybox, and I'm not holding my breath. They really should not be in business if they can't provide a decent service. It was way too much work for me to send in my slides, only to be told after two months that they couldn't process them! And to think, these were just standard slides.
When I opened the package to find nothing but my own slides, I was beyond disappointed. They didn't even bother to warn me or anything, and now I have to chase them for a refund. That's totally unacceptable, and I hope they fix this soon.
In conclusion, I would not recommend Legacybox. If you want to preserve your family memories, go local and avoid all the hassle and disappointment that comes with dealing with this company.
Legacybox: A Disappointing Disaster for My Precious Memories
Yo, I gotta say, Legacybox really let me down. Lemme tell ya, I'm a photographer and writer by trade, and I'm no slouch when it comes to digitizin' my own stuff. But I thought, hey, why not give these guys a shot? Boy, was I wrong.
So I sent 'em some 8 mm films and color slides, pretty simple stuff ya know? But what I got back was a hot mess, lemme tell ya. The digitized videos were all weirdly framed, like someone cranked up the zoom by two or three. Heads cut off, weird proportions, it was all wack. Like, did they even check their settings before hitting the copy button?
And don't even get me started on the quality. I get that you can't polish a turd, but when I put my dad's old projector next to their digital copy, it was just embarrassing. These guys are straight-up hacks, no talent whatsoever.
Now, I've digitized thousands of color slides in my time. It's not rocket science, ya set the parameters, scan, save as a .jpg, and voila - you're cookin' with gas. But for whatever reason, these guys couldn't handle 'em. Perfectly good slides, and they just couldn't do it. Like, c'mon man, that's gotta be one of the easiest things you could ask for.
To be honest, I don't think there's a low enough rating for Legacybox. Seriously, after scouring reviews all over the web, I'm like, why did I even bother? I shoulda known better, it was all my fault for rushin'. Now I gotta find someone else to do it right, and pay twice. Ain't that just the cherry on top.
Legacybox Review: A Disappointing Way to Preserve Memories
I was given this thing called Legacybox from my wife as a present and was excited to use it to convert some old slides of mine from the 1960s. It was a pretty costly thing, but hey, I only live once and wanted to keep those memories alive. The box had the capacity to cover 10 sets of 25 slides each and man, it took me four whole days to get those slides ready for the conversion. I had to go through each and every trip of mine and carefully choose the best and most important slides for preservation purpose, and let me tell you, that was no piece of cake.
After waiting for ages, finally, the slides were returned to me with a flash drive, which I immediately put in my computer to relive those moments. But all my excitement went down the drain, and I was left with sheer disappointment and sadness. I mean, what was even the point of organizing slides in the order of the 10 trips if they were not going to be in chronological order, right? But Legacybox didn't seem to care, and as they had stated earlier, nothing could be guaranteed in terms of the order of slides. But, dang, at least each set should have been in the correct order. But, alas, no such luck. They were shuffled up like a deck of cards, with no rational order whatsoever. It felt like the whole box had been scattered and thrown back in there, leaving me to wonder what in the world happened.
And the flash drive wasn't much help either. None of the pictures made any sense, and there was no way I could share it with anyone else without causing confusion. The Europe trip that was supposed to start in Germany went from Switzerland to Italy. And can I even begin to talk about the poor quality of the slides? The colors were faded, and the pictures looked like lint and dust particles were all over them. It was a mess.
And when I contacted Legacybox about all the mishaps, they just wouldn't acknowledge anything was wrong. After a long back and forth, they reluctantly agreed to provide a refund. But what about all the time and effort I put into sorting those slides? What about all the memories that'll never be the same again? It's just a total bummer that I'm left with nothing to share with my family and friends.
All in all, I think it's safe to say that Legacybox may not be a good option if you cherish your memories and want them to be preserved with care.
Disappointed with Legacy Box: Slow Process, Missing Footage, and Poor Quality Assurance. Don't Recommend!
I decided to try out Legacy Box to have some of my father's old film reels converted to digital, and I have to say that the process was very long. It took a whopping 6 weeks to get my precious items back to be able to view them again after years. But hey, at least I was able to add some of my old 8mm tapes to the box when sending it in for processing too.
However, things didn't go as expected and I was left disappointed. One of my tapes was returned with only a 14-minute clip when I knew there were a lot more things recorded on it. I gave them a call and was given a label to have it shipped back and reprocessed. It took about 2 and a half weeks for that tape to make its way back to me. But, to my surprise, they increased the file's length from 14 minutes to almost 2 hours of video!
Sounds great, right? Well, not quite. The audio was so bad that it sounded like adults talking on a Charlie Brown TV special. I was not able to enjoy watching the video at all, so I gave them another call. Unfortunately, that was my one-time free return and now I had to pay for the shipping if I wanted this fixed. But, I was still left uncertain if they were going to properly fix it.
I don't know what's going to happen to my other files from the other tapes. I'm still wondering if there's missing video from the other tapes too, but the lack of labeling makes it hard to know. It's such a waste of time. I don't recommend Legacy Box at all. The quality assurance when transferring is not great, and they are very slow in their processes. So, be careful if you consider to use this service.
Beware of Poor Quality Conversion: Legacybox VHS Tape to Digital Service Review
This review is all about the VHS tape to digital file converting service from Legacybox. I have also used their services for a few 8mm reels, and they turned out okay. However, I had a lot of Mini DV tapes that I wanted to convert to digital files. I spent so much time converting them all on my own using the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus, which was a great and straightforward tool. But since this process took a lot of my time, I decided to try out Legacybox's service when they had a 50% off sale. I sent around 17 VHS tapes to them, knowing that it could take up to three months for the files to be ready. They kept sending me excited emails claiming to have the best equipment in the business. However, they also tried to make me pay extra to move up in the queue, which I didn't do since I was willing to wait.
After a while, Legacybox sent me some emails stating some quality issues with my tapes, which I expected to some extent. But when I received all my tapes back and the flash drive with the converted files, I was deeply disappointed. Almost every transfer had serious issues that made them unwatchable. Some had a blank screen with audio only, while others had jumbled frames constantly going off and on, and yet others had a one-inch distorted line throughout the entire video. I decided to take matters into my own hands and pulled out my two old VHS players. Once I ran a tape cleaning cassette through them, I was able to play each of the tapes flawlessly. I then used the above program and was able to capture what Legacybox had called a tape with quality issues without any problems. This led me to believe that the equipment they used was garbage or not cleaned between jobs.
I tried to contact Legacybox to let them know about their poor equipment and product, but they do not have any means to do so. Sadly, I had already spent over $270.00 for their 20 item box, only to be disappointed by the outcome of their work. Now, I have to spend countless hours doing it right all over again. Be aware of the poor quality services by Legacybox, and don't waste your money!
Legacybox Review: Disappointing Service, Messed-Up Memories and No Chapter Search Feature
I just got my two Legacy boxes from Legacybox.com and I was really excited to have my 8mm video tapes converted. At first, everything looked super service oriented and really well-organized. I was stoked to get everything converted and put onto CD's and a flash drive. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a total bummer. I'm hoping that somebody from Legacybox will give me a call to fix this or to get a refund. I wish I had read some of these reviews before I handed over all of my precious memories to them. I gotta tell you, I'm pretty disappointed with several issues here.
First of all, nearly 75% of the tapes I submitted for conversion came back with a red sticker advising me that " there was a tracking issue that didn't meet their normal quality standards". What's up with that? And to top it off, they sure didn't cut down the cost, even though they were returning most of my tapes! What the heck am I paying for? And to make matters even worse, they sent back my tapes all messed up, and failed to wind them. They also put them back into the completely wrong boxes, and they de-faced my red stickers on my own identification labels. What a headache! It took me a solid two hours just to fix everything they messed up. Why can't they just keep things organized for us?
Another thing that really irritates me is that there is no chapter search feature. I can only fast forward, which means I can't even move quickly from section to section. That's just plain annoying! The marketing for Legacybox is all about how they care about our memories and how they will work hard to help us to convert them into something special. But the way our memories were returned sure didn't show any care, concern, or consideration at all!
To make matters even worse, one of our tapes had a sticker claiming there was mold or other similar issue that was unable to be converted. But when we replayed the tape ourselves on our own 8mm player, there was no sign of mold or any issue at all. What gives? I need somebody to explain it to me in a real conversation, not just send me a box with some stickers on it! And finally, why can't they just make things right? We entrusted them with our precious memories, and they should really take that responsibility seriously.
So, my advice to everyone out there considering using Legacybox is to beware before you send off all of your memories. While their service looked really good on the surface, the results were really quite disappointing.
Legacybox Review: Beware MiniDV Conversion, Heartbreak Guaranteed!
So, I bought a 20-piece Legacybox to give it to my wife as a surprise Christmas present. I wanted to convert our precious miniDV video collection (mostly of our now grow children) into a more convenient format. After a long wait (we're talking about more than one month here), we finally received our package of DVDs, a flash drive, and even digital downloads as part of a promotion. I must say I was excited to watch our family memories, but boy, was I disappointed!
Upon viewing the digitized footage, we saw horrible pixelation, grey lines running horizontally on screen, and, overall, just terrible picture quality. It was so heartbreaking because we thought our tapes had deteriorated beyond repair - unwatchable. I mean, we couldn't even tell what some of the people on screen were doing! And to top it off, some of the tapes had a rude label (on the tape reels) stating, "Previous Damage." How can they just slap a sticker on the tapes without inspecting the contents and checking their quality?
Determined to figure out what happened, we tried to view the material on the flash drive on our computer only to discover the defects in that footage were different (in the same scene), but equally terrible in quality. It was frustrating and infuriating to go from excited to heartbroken in mere seconds.
That made us take a step back and resort to our old miniDV camcorder to view the original tapes. To our surprise and joy, we discovered the original videos were clear, crisp, and of high quality. Even the ones labeled "Previous Damage" played just fine, with no defects. Yes, that's right. We discovered all of this on our own.
After going through all this frustration, we drew up a few conclusions. For one, we believe that Legacybox has some obvious flaws in their digital to digital conversion process, specifically when dealing with miniDV media. Secondly, we discovered that their quality control process is flawed as it failed to ensure that the original video quality was preserved. Seriously, there's no way anyone had attempted to view our converted videos. Lastly, I am most certain that I am not the only customer who has had similar experiences. The miniDV format is aging and players are not readily available, so it's crucial for companies like Legacybox to be on their game and produce quality work.
The only compliment I can give Legacy Box is that they promptly responded to my concerns, and after proving that their process is broken, they issued a full refund. I mean, seriously, they offered no explanation or apology, but at least they refunded our money.
Perhaps their picture scanning, VHS conversion, and handling of other formats are great. Still, my advice is to stay away from them when it comes to miniDV conversion. I hope this experience helps someone out there avoid a similar heartbreak.
Thanks for reading.

Legacybox Review: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Legacybox, let me tell you folks, I had quite an experience with 'em! Initially, I received the box about a few weeks after ordering it - no thanks to the folks over at FedEx who apparently misplaced it. But hey, it eventually arrived, so no harm done, right?
I promptly sent in my stash of 40 family items for digitization. Yup, my granddad's precious memories, right there, in that box. I made sure to click some pictures of them all, before sending everything over - just to be on the safe side, ya know?
But here's where things went slightly downhill. It being the holiday season and all that jazz, the entire process took quite a bit longer than it usually does. Finally, I received my package - a plain ol' brown box, with my items and some DVDs that had no labels on them. Cool, I thought, time to reminisce my family's golden moments.
But alas, there was a catch. The DVDs had absolutely no audio, and to make matters worse, everything was jumbled up and unorganized. I mean, I had no clue which tape was on which DVD. That's when I noticed this teeny, tiny clause buried in their FAQs - that said there may be no audio on the media they process. Hmm, I guess my bad. But it did leave me quite annoyed.
Anyway, not liking the way things were shaping up, I contacted customer service for help. They were decent enough, even sent me a new box to return my items in - with the promise of all digital files this time around.
That was my biggest mistake.
After a somewhat quicker process, I received a nicely labeled box, with all my items neatly tucked away inside. But wait, what's that I see? More like, what's that I don't see? About 10 small reels out of the lot I'd sent in, had been shredded to bits, and their cases, beyond destroyed. As in, smashed to nothingness by some heavy object.
To add insult to injury, whoever was behind this fiasco, had stuffed the shreds into an old plastic bag and slapped a cheery sticker on it that read "This media is in a format that cannot be processed". Wow. Cue instant anger and disbelief.
I took all the pictures I could, documenting all the damages that were done. I then spent a frustrating two weeks arguing with a new customer service representative, about the state in which my items had been returned. They ended up refunding me, but that did nothing to ease the pain of losing those much-loved memories.
Fast forward to a year later - and even now, Legacybox still keeps bombarding me with review requests and newsletters, despite me having unsubscribed twice already. It's kind of frustrating really.
So folks, take heed - STAY AWAY from the Legacybox!
