Has anyone had any problems with a profile saying "Active within 24 hours, 3 days, etc..." without the profile actually being accessed or active within that time frame?

cannot stop emails from match.com
Cannot stop this company (if you can even call it that) from sending me emails EVERY day with "matches" they have selected for me. I never even joined or paid them anything ! I was curious about Match.com and signed up for a FREE trial. Every day they send me emails with pictures of the creepiest looking men that I would never even think of talking to let...
Read full review of Match.com and 91 commentsbogus profiles - widowers
Every day I receive winks from men between 45-55 who claim to be widows. All the ads say that they're seeking a woman in mid-30s to mid 60s. These ads are all have beautiful ads that sounds too good to be true - very romantic, looking for love, marriage, etc. They all indicate an income over over 150k and that they're seeking a woman of any size and proportion. Usually, the profile is unavailable within a short time. I have never responded to any, but what is the big deal here? Match.com widow ads

I worked for Match.com, from experience I believe that they are bogus accounts, and the reason the profiles only appeared for a few days is because Match.com shut them dowm as "fraud". Nigerians open accounts using stolen charge card information in order to scam other members out of money. When Match.com is alerted to an account that appears to be bogus, they immediately shut down the account. As sson as Match.com shuts them down, the Nigerians open another one using other information from a stolen charge card number. It's an on going cycle. Be careful and never send money to any members.
unauthorized charges
This company charged my debit card without pin authorization in the amount of $59.97. Obviously stole my number. I did not authorize this charge and have never had anything to do with them or any company like them.

Unauthorized charges
I just found $37.30 unauthorised charge on my card.
Those other guys that had fraudulent charges by WMV.MATCH.COM on there Visa card were lucky. I just had a $95.94 charge from them on my card taken on Nov. Friday the 13, 2009! And I have never been a member and don't have a clue how they did it.

billing renewal
Twice I have pre-selected to not auto-renew my subscription approximately a couple months in advance and twice it has been renewed and charged to my credit card [I work in the IT industry and confirmed it was set correctly each time]. The first time I called to request a refund and cancel the subscription but told I could not. A lawyer friend and I are taking screen captures after I have set it to not auto-renew. At various points throughout the year we will document using witness verification of that status during the valid subscription period.

uninformed termination of account
I had been a member of the site, Match.com for more than 2 years at least. On the 5th of October, i made a payment of a one month subscription and was happily using the site, updating my profiles and pictures. On the 6th of October, I couldn't log in anymore and was advised to contact Customer Care. Customer Care informed me that I have violated the Term...

Match.com just sent me an email, saying that certain guys had sent me an email. Of course, none of those guys had sent me an email. Match had sent me the email by error - I had recently subscribed, and could see that none of those guys on the email had sent me an email.
It is rather a nasty thing of Match.com to engage in such a practice.

charges
Today is Sept. 9, 2009
On Sept. 6, 2009, I was charged on my Visa account $101.94 by WMV*Match.com. I had no idea what that charge was. I called my credit card company and they contacted WMV*Match.com. TI was told this is the corporate site for Match.com. I had signed up 3/6/09 on Match.com only because they offered the promotion " Sign up for 6 months and if you don't find someone, get 6 months free."
However, according to the customer service person I spoke with, you HAVE to keep your profie posted with photo for 6 months AND send 5 emails monthly. What? I didn't have that many men I was interested in to send 5 emails monthly. Match.com said I would still have to pay the new charge even if I took my profile down! What? I replied that I was NOT paying for 6 more months of their service if I couldn't find anyone, when I understood I was to receive 6 months free. Then they said they would "PRORATE" my membership for this month at a cost of approx. $34. I said I'd pay for 3 days: 9/6. 9/7, and 9/8 - and no more. The next step was to put me on hold while Match.com rep spoke with a manager. They came back and said as a "one time complimentary" service they would refund the $101.94 charge and my profile would be removed. The credit would take several days.
Lesson learned: Be sure to read the fine print even if you have to research for it. If it sounds too good to be true, then is probably is a scam . . .

The woman says that she can't find enough men. What a joke.
I have sent out hundreds of emails and thousands of winks and have gotten very few responses.
I have only met two women from match.com in person. And they were nothing compared to the girls I pick up in clubs or on the street and yet these women on match.com (and I doubt there are really that many) think that they are too good for us guys.
This woman deserves to pay every penny of what she was charged for being stupid. And she should pay for 4 guys memberships for not even attempting to get to know them.
abused subscriber
Match.com does not disclose which members can read emails and which ones can't. As a paying subscriber I waste a lot of time reading profiles and sending emails to people who are not paying subscribers and can not open the email that I send to them. Match.com does this hoping that the non paying members who receive an email will then become a paying subscriber. In others words Match.com is using there paying subscribers to entice non paying subscribers to become paying subscribers so that they can read the email that they receive.

3 days, yes, match waited until the 3rd day to tell me my profile was not accepted? Why, I put my age at 99, why did I do that, for security reasons. Why did march wait until the 3rd day, simple, after 2 days you can not get your money back. I called citibank, and I have to go through hell to get 158bucks back, so I am closing my citibank account. I refuse to do business with a bank that does not stand behind their customers.
Never join match.. This site is a scam from hell. It is unethical and deserves a class action suit.
I will be calling the ftc and filing as many complaints as possible.
I find it interesting that some of "my matches" remain the same age year after year while I get older. I have asked for access to their secret because I too do not want to age but have not received an answer as of yet. I'm getting older by the minute and looking less pretty at the same time.
Thanks.
my name is kelvin josh and I registered match.com but I can't access my account anymore after I paid for one month so I can chat with people.. I need to know what happen.. My email is kelvinjosh137@yahoo.com Will look forward to resolving the problem for me ..
Thanks
Be aware that the cancellation link inbedded in Match.com's page labeled "cancel/resign subscription" ironically does not always operate. The verbiage goes on to say- "you may continue to use " your subscription until the expiration date. And of course I did, however, it was 3/17/11 and I realized- why is the account still active? Match.com states the responsibility falls to the consumer. So the only way I see the consumer would have control over NOT being automatically charged is to no use the Match.com site. This has happened to me more than once-you'd think I'd learn!
Match cares to take your money, but does not care for their customers. Understand that you forfeit your personal information once you give it to Match. I was told by agent 20740 that my information cannot be removed from the data base. It can only "disabled".
Also, they will abuse your card info.
I was with Match for over a year and when i did not need their services Match did not refund a withdraw on the 2 withdrawn on the 30. Note: they had no permission for automatic renewal. I am aware now, in small print to the side, it states all subscriptions automatically renewed. They want you to miss it, to take advatage.
MATCH IS UNETHICAL, be ready.
Warning everyone Match permanently keeps your profile and credit card information indefinately even though your profile maybe hidden they chose not to give you that option to take your information and delete it..I think it is a violation of privacy and I scream HIPPA...dont use them unless you want them to have access..and also back on 2017 scam artist approached me from nigeria asking for money..but here it is 2017 and they keep your personal information..
I had called them yesterday too check up on who the heck had taken $ 19.95 from my account, & they said I had a free trial ! I agreed with them, but then asked them, why did you take $19.95 from my account, they came up with all kind of (excuse me please, B/S answers) !I spoke to Brian he told me that anything I would have purchased over the internet(bla, bla), I would have saved 70% on anything ! BOLOGNA ! Anyway, I made sure that they cancelled me, (period, as far as I am concerned), & had them send me a fax, because I do not believe a word they say !They're phone # is [protected], so anybody would like to check up you protect yourself from this so called company, Please give them a call to make sure that you aren't on their list of being hunted !
They sent me an e-mail claiming that someone was interested but they are doing this in an effort to try and sign me up for paid service. Very dishonest and manipulative.
HI, Match .com which I no longer subscribe to have also been taking unauthorised card payments from me for £19.99 on a monthly basis which I can ill afford, I have the same problem with zoosk and also had a the same problem with eHarmony however after sending an email to eHarmony threatening them with the the financial services Ombudsman they have apologised to me and are returning two unauthorised payments to my account . It is unfortunate that both zoosk and match.com are completely ignoring my requests, I send this email in the hope that once again you can help . Thank you Gayle Colquhoun
This is the 2nd time I have been on match.com and I swear it will be my last, it has been the worse...I started my 3 mos subscription on May 27th, 2017, I was quickly charged $59.97...One of my first encounters was with a man who claimed he was a jeweler starting a new business 12 minutes from my home, he turned out to be a Scammer asking for money working out of Ghana..I also encountered 6 other scammers, 3 other men straight out asking for explicit sex...so what did I pay for..on July 5th I received an email stating my 3mos would soon be up and if I wanted to renew just ignore this email and my credit card would be automatically charged and if I did not, please cancel no so that my card would not be charged on August 27. I canceled, I received an email stating that my credit card would absolutely not be charged, on August 29th, I noticed on my Bank statement a charge from match.com for $59.97...There lame explanation is that I did not have the right to use the website until August 27th, that if I canceled in July I should have never gone back on, I reactivated it...I asked why they sent the email stating I was ok...same lame answer repeatedly..oh and try to get a US person on the Phone forget it...Everyone is in the Dominican..no offense..so if you can get thru the scammers and the credit card fraud, Good luck, but if you dont want to deal with their Fraudulent ways I suggest you cancel your credit card the minute after the first charge hits if you ever want to cancel, they keep charging even when you tell them no, and forget about getting back Bank FEEs...they dont care and will not help...noreason ever to go back on..thats my code name.
fraud, bogus profiles
I have been a member of Match for about 2 and 1/2 yrs. This week I wrote to them asking how someone can request contact with a subscriber without viewing their profile. Within about 15 minutes I had 8 new winks, total of 12 that day. More than I have gotten in a month. All were from out of state, all profiles were no longer available. One was from NY, while doing a random search I saw the same picture here in MI. Same picture, totally different profiles. I believe these to be bogus profiles, printed both. Someone sitting at Match.com patronizing me. I have requested a full refund for this 3 month membership, haven't heard back from them.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
And I thought the only winks were from out of state. Totally worthless ripoff site as opposed to others where I know people who met eventual mates. They should be shut down
I was receiving bogus profiles for months after I had taken my profile down.
While my profile was up I received almost no matches from within my specified are 250 miles from my city. I had the exact same profile with same photos on Plenty of Fish.com
and POF sent me nearly a thousand matches near my city during the same month as I was on Match.com, while Match sent me only a couple of profiles near my city--but spammed me with fake profiles from all over the USA including the UK. Match also autosubscribed me without authorization and billed my charge card.
I am having the same thing happen. The bogus profiles are obvious because of the pix and because of the content and selected profile items such as Education, Occupation, Salary, etc. -- combinations of the three make no sense. The spelling is horrible for supposedly well-educated individuals.
Farce -- don't understand the reasoning behind it. I've been a member for several years as well and have met "real" individuals. Seems like the instances are increasing and don't recall it being an issue in the past.
Frustrating. Aggravating.
I wrote Match this morning about the issue and received standard, canned reply.
What's the deal?
hacked and no reply
Within 48 hours of subscribing to this website, my account was hijacked. Customer Service indicated I would be contacted within 72 hours and that I would get an e-mail detailing process. Multiple calls later and past the dealine, I have received no e-mails, no call, and no refund from the company. Worst customer service follow-up I have ever experienced!

yesterday i logined match.com and paid three months fees, however, today i recevied two emails about someone changed my email and password. now, i can not login match. the hacker email is kelvin_kent1@hotmail.com
I'm so sorry that someone hijakced your account. I work in the PR department at match.com and would love to help. Feel free to email me your information at pr@match.com and I'll make sure someone from Care reaches back out to you immediately.
Again, I'm so sorry to hear about this and I hope we'll be able to clear this up quickly.
keep charging my credit card after cancel
I have tried for MONTHS to cancel my membership and get refunds. They claim if you don't find a match in six months they will give you six months free. They don't. It's a scam. Don't fall prey to these scam artists.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Match .com will give you an additional six month memberrship as long as you meet the qualications of that promotional. In order to cancel your membership, just call their customer service number, make sure you get a confirmation nuber. If further charges appear, call them and explain the situation, they'll ask you for a confirmation number. They will refund any additional charges to your charge account, but you must have a confirmation number.
psycho con man
there's a man on there named Thomas Salerno but his real name is Thomas Edward Schroeder Jr. and he lives in Citrus Heights. He's a con man and was just released from prison in August 2008. He's a stalker and will threaten to kill you if you upset him. He's been in and out of prison his entire life and he does drugs. Be AWARE women! Match.com does nothing about his stalking. He's on ALL internet dating sites!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
If you have a picture of him it would really help if you would post it. I had a stalker for ten years. They can ruin your life.
What is his con? He contacted me from a website, and did some research and found his name. After our first conversation it sounded kind of fishy. Won't be talking to him anymore. I didn't press him on his real name, since he might be a stalker and violent.
false advertisement
They had an offer that if you don't find a match, you get six months free. Sounds good right? No! I know that being an asian that I would not get many matches since I was looking for caucasian women. So I wrote my profile asking for a typical barbie type woman. Sure enough none replied because no caucasian woman would want be seen with an asian man because it would look stranger than a caucasian woman with a latin or black man. A month after the six months, I was billed. I asked match.com why I am being billed when I did not match with someone, and they claimed that taking to a potential match was considered a fulfillment of their promotion. Bs! Bunch of scammers in dallas, texas where match.com is headquartered. Never will I trust a web site dating company for all they have are a bunch of racist who can't live in a globally cultured world and will steal your money for it. If they are that successful, why not give us their statisics of that for public viewing? It is because they have none!
prostitution?
I signed up and paid for Match.com while making connections online, I noticed three "women" in different towns in my area posted identical postings, right down to there tagline something like. where is my prince charming, I am waiting. they were posted at the same time. None of them filled out personal info, just there age and who they were seeking: men 30 to 60 . there is a button you can click if something looks fishy. so I click on all three, it was obviously ### postings. a couple days later, my account is blocked and " referred to corporate headquarters? they wouldn't tell me why I was blocked. but my sight and interactions were perfectly clean and within the rules of Match.com. the complaint notifications I sent are the only thing it could be. In the couple days before my ban, I noticed they did nothing on those women's posts the long and the short of it is Match doesn't want agitators, and supports prostitution on their websight if is brings in revenue. It is a seriously sketchy operation.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Match.com is essentially a prostitution site now. Further Match has a perverse incentive to allow this to continue. As soon as I created a profile I was inundated with DOZENS of chat requests, winks, likes, etc... all from women half my age, in another state, and seeking men in some ridiculous age range such as 25-86. These are either scams or prostitutes.
Match allows this to continue because people who don't subscribe but create a profile can't see any info about the person contacting them until they pay. So some poor sap creates a profile, thinks he has a dozen "likes", pays his subscription only to find they are scam/prostitutes. It is absolutely rampant, I get approximately 20-30 of these a day flooding my email inbox with bogus "someone likes you" emails from match as well as cluttering up the webpages you are supposed to use for real matches.
Match.com is in the prostitution business now.
I worked for Match.com. They only shut down profiles which are under investigation for fruad or misuse, things to that nature. If you complained about the 3 profiles chances are, they complained about you, and therefore you were investigated just to be on the safe side. If everything was fine on your side, they would have activated your profile, and added time to your account. They do have to investigate complaints to be on the safe side. It's for everyones protection. It usually takes about a week to complete resolve things depending on their work load. Good luck!

unable to cancel subscription
Signed up in may for 3 mocnths and explicitly emailed them to cancel my membership after that period. They have now automatically billed my credit card!
When I complained to them, they insist that they payment for may 2009 to august 2009 cannot be cancelled. My credit card company says that this is a perpetual problem with match.com.

Hi there 28539jackie. I took out a 3month subscription on Match.com but now I need to cancel it and recoup the remaining 2months left of my subscription. I sent an email explaining that I would not be using the website for the next 2months and that it would be unreasonable to charge my account for a service that is not being used. I received a very impersonal response that I would have to wait to the end of my subscription.
I'm quite desperate to recoup this money having lost my job recently. Hope you can help.
I used to work for Match.com. There were two ways to avoid further charges to your account. Call customer service prior to your contract expiring, even an hour after signing up with them. They could have cancelled your account, which would have kept you as an active subcriber until your termination date and therefore, avoid further charges. You could have also cancelled on line prior to your expiration date. There is a special section on the account information page to cancel subscriptions. In both cases you would have recieved a confirmation number. If you recieved any further charges and if you had proof of the cancelled account, your money would have been refunded within 72 hours.
illegal billing
I have been billed on 5/18/09 and 5/19/09, for $39.99 each, for something I know nothing about. I have never been to this site nor have I ever authorized anyone from that company to bill my debit card. I have read on other sites that others are having this trouble also so I would recommend that everyone should keep a close eye on their billing accounts via the history option. Now I have to deal with having my credit union send me a fraud form. call the police department to have a police officer sent over from the fraud division to fill out a fraud form. obtain a fraud form number, send it to my Credit Union so they can cancel my current debit card, be with out a card while I am sent a replacement and then wait even longer to receive the pin number through the mail. Where is the justice against these crooks? I hope all who reads this, keeps a close eye on their account and notifies others of their debauchery.

dangerous men/dates
I had (2) dates from Match.com. They were both FELONS. Why in the world would this company not do background checks. I don't know what I was thinking when I started with them -
One and the last date I went on he hit me with a wooden coat hanger on the face and gave me a black eye. I later found out about his very shady past. He had been in PRISON twice and also threatened me if I filed charges against him. However, I was on a cruise with him at this time when I realized what kind of person he was. The Captain, helped me with getting a small boat to take me to get a shuttle to the nearest airport (5 hours away). I was told I would be taken by English speaking woman driver - I WAS NOT- instead I had to take a shuttle driven by two MEN who did not speak any English. The whole 5 hours I was afraid. Once I got to the city - Managua, Nigeruaga, I hold to pay for my hotel (which the company reimbursed me later) I also had a nightmare at the airport because the Cruise Director promised me my airline ticket was waiting - it was not. I had just finished with Chemo Therapy for 48 weeks, I did not have my energy level back to deal with all this. On top of that I had to take medicine for the damage the chemo had caused, MY DATE, from MATCH.COM stole most of it. We got into an argument, because apparently, he is also drug abuser, I told him I had to take my meds for pain from Fibro (which he already knew) that the meds were not for fun. He got angry.
When I finally made it back to the Houston, TX I was exhausted, had a huge BLACK-EYE. I contacted the Cruise Director with Ambassodor, the one who lied about every thing. I emailed her and told her I needed a report that I filed on the ship to the Captain. I contacted more than 7-8 times. She would not and did not respond to any of my request. I needed that to file Assault Charges against this person. Please inform others on the danger of these on-line dating services, most of them DO NOT DO BACKGROUND CHECKS!
Kindest Regards - Praying for your help - Jerri Scroggins
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You're lucky all you got was a black eye. Did Match.com do a background check on you when you signed up? No they didn't, so why would you assume that they would do so on the men you're communicating with? It sounds to me like you are pretty naive.
There's nothing wrong with running a background check. It would have saved you some anguish twice now. You also might want to seriously reconsider the type of guy you find attractive since there seems to be a recurring theme here.
Here are some more tips for you when it comes to online dating that are reproduced for your convenience from this website: http://www.onlinedatingmagazine.com/articles/datingsafely.html:
1. Arrange to meet him.
When meeting for the first time, never allow your date to pick you up from your home. In fact, your date shouldn't even know your home address yet!
2. Meet in public places.
For a first meeting, always meet in a public place where other people are in close proximity. You may also want to consider going out with a group of people, or a double date.
3. Go dutch by paying half of the bill.
It's always respectful for the man to offer to pay the bill. Unfortunately, some men ruin the gesture by expecting something in return. Therefore it may not be a bad idea for you to go dutch. Pay half the bill so that you won't feel under any obligation to "return" the favor.
4. Remember that alcohol affects your judgment.
The biggest threat to a person's judgment, when on a date, is alcohol. Not only does it affect your judgment, but alcohol also lessens your inhibitions. If you are drinking, keep your drink in sight at all times and don’t get so drunk that you don’t know what you are doing. Better yet, try to avoid alcohol on your first date.
5. Use your own mode of transportation.
Provide your own transportation to your public meeting place and make sure you have more than enough gas.
6. Don't assume that a man is safe.
It's important never to let your guard down when on a first date. Never assume a man is safe just because he claims to be religious or a gentleman.
7. Don’t let him know where you live.
If you want to see him again, arrange a second date and then take it from there.
8. Avoid secluded areas.
Remember - stay in a public place for your first date and avoid secluded areas such as parks.
9. Listen to your gut.
If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. And if you haven’t met him before, and you know at the beginning of the date that something doesn’t feel right, then leave immediately.
10. Always let someone else know where you're going. Be sure someone knows where you are going and who you'll be with. You might even consider arranging a time to call and check in. Or you could arrange to meet up with friends later that night.
11. Give him your cell phone number.
It's safer to give out a cell phone number instead of your home phone number (click here for why).
12. Always remain alert.
Even if you’re having a blast and the chemistry is great, it’s a good idea to remain alert the whole evening. Make sure you have a cell phone on you.
In my opinion, this is all just common sense stuff. Also, for the first half a dozen dates or so, people generally tend to be on their best behavior so just because the first couple of dates go well, does not mean you've met the real person yet. The online world is a dangerous place and even men should exercise caution. Better to be a little paranoid then be in a situation where you wish you would have been.
I agree with Tiff 100%! Who the HELL in their right mind meets someone off the internet and jumps to trap themselves on a boat with the new companion! ESPECIALLY having had a prior similar experience--"I had (2) dates from Match.com. They were both FELONS ... One and the last date I went on he hit me with a wooden coat hanger on the face and gave me a black eye." ###ing ###. She DID deserve it! You can EAAAAAAASILY look up any person who has or had a prison record in every state of the US! It's women like you who give the rest of us a bad name! Next time, as I'm sure there'll be one, I hope you get thrown overboard!
She was desperate and left the US with someone she didn't know.
I dont think anyone gets what they deserve you heartless tiff, however before leaving dry land with a new friend, I certainly would have protected myslef better. I am glad you were not seriously hurt.
You got what you deserved. You should have done the background search yourself, drama queen...lmao.

Yes, when not logged in, and if you search on your profile it seems to reset the "inactivity" timer. I know this is true that you've used to access match.com before. I don't know if it is true for a computer that has never logged on to match.com. Calling it a scam is a bit harsh, but I do think this is a bug.
Yeah I'm currently having that trouble now. I signed out of my profile making sure auto sign in wasn't turned on. Then I decided to search for my profile as a free member, not logged in. Somehow, my status was that I was currently online even though I signed out out already. I should have listened to other people who warned never to get match.com, it is a scam!
