Majorly exploited and taken advantage of due to lack of options!
My chevy equinox began misfiring at around 5:45pm on 5/1/25 and all other garages were closed. Mavis in pottsville, pa was luckily open until 8:30pm and completed the repair of 4 spark plugs/4 coils while informing me that driving any further could have blown my engine! They charged me $1200 for this... Later on I visited my regular mechanic for an oil change and showed him the bill and he said this could have been done for about $588 with the company still making a profit. I feel as though I was unfairly taken advantage of and exploited given my lack of options in this case and severely overcharged in the middle of a very desperate situation! I understand there will be pricing variances between repair shops, but not double the price. Companies should be ashamed of themselves engaging in practices like this. I was also told by several people who have automotive knowledge that although driving with the engine misfiring like that would ultimately not be good for the engine, the claim that it would have blown the engine was greatly exaggerated.
Recommendation: buyer beware !
Lied to my my wife and took off new Mercedes Benz wipers, ($45/set) and replaced with junk bosch wipers for $120 per set in order to inspect it.
We bought a new car on 03/15/2025. The car was from out of state so it was never inspected. The car was very nice. Like brand new. A Mercedes Benz. I had ten days to get the car inspected, and was going to be working 7 days a week 16 hours a day for a couple months starting a week after we bought it. Mavis in Towanda PA 18848, was the only inspection shop we could get in before the outage started. My wife scheduled the first appointment she could get. 03/22/2025 at 11:00 hrs. Only 1 1/2 days before I needed it road ready. So I inspected the car myself to make sure all they would have to do is put the sticker on it, after looking at it. At 12:30 hrs on 03/22/2025 I asked my wife if they were done inspecting it. She said "no, they had been working on it for over an hour." Then around 13:00 hours she said they were done. I told her that the inspection was $27 plus taxes. She replied that they were charging her $138.84. I said no thats wrong, don't pay that. I asked what the charges were and she said the inspection, shop supplies, Labor, and $50 dollars apiece for 2 windshiled wiper blades. I told her that the wiper blades on it were new Mercedes Benz wipers. They worked great, better than anything Mavis sells, and are only $22 each. So I asked her to bring my old wiper blades home with her. When she got home I inspected my original blades again and they still looked like new. Not wanting to jump to conclusions since I am not licensed in Pennsylvania inspection laws, I went to my neighbors who is licenced and has an active business. (He did not have any openings before I needed the car or I would not be writing this now.) I asked him to inspect the wipers for me to see if there was something I missed. He said they looked good, but had to clear any water from the windshield in 3 strokes. He said that was probably the reason they replaced them. So I asked him to reinstall my original Wipers on the car and see if they worked good enough to pass inspection. Since it was his day off I paid him $50 for his labor and time. He changed the wipers and sprayed the windshield turned the wipers on and they cleared the glass in one pass. Just like they did two days previous when it was raining on my way to work. He said the wipers work just like new, as they always had. So armed with this information I drove back to Mavis on the golden mile in Wysox. I thought after showing the manager that my old wipers were like new, and I never used the ones thay installed he would take them back and refund the money he charged me for them. Boy was I wrong. He must have seen me pull in with the car, because before I could even say anything he was very aggressive and defesive. Stating he knew who I was and the wipers did not clear the window in more than 5 passes. I tried to expain to him that The old wipers were on the car, and if he would just walk outside he would see that they clear the window completely in one pass. But instead he cut me of and loudly proclaimed that there was no need for him to look at them, because he already did. (The inspectors name on the sticker was not his, so I am not sure why the manager would be looking at the wipers while someone else inspects the car.) But I again tried to ask him if he would let me return the wipers, and once again he cut me off raising his voice and threatening to call the police on me. I again tried to explain to him that i just got off the phone with my cousin who had his car there at the same time with the same results. My cousin stated that he would never ever do business there again. I was hoping not to go that route. Then the manager once again cut me off and started yelling at me as he got his phone out. "Thats it I am calling the cops right now!" So i got in my car and left. Like my cousin. I will never step inside a Mavis store again. I told my neighbor if that happens again I will just drive illegal until he can get me in. It's cheaper even if I get caught. This inspection cost me $200 and 3 hours of driving plus not getting my chores done that I needed to do before I start the crazy long hours. Plus the insults and accusations on top of that. By far the most expensive and aggravating, harrassing state inspection I have ever had. I have had much more pleasant audits with the dept of Revenue. Never Again.
Recommendation: avoid at all costs
The address for Mavis on this website is wrong according to mavis.com. It should be New York not New Jersey. Trust Pilot Rolled over on it's users for the corporations. Same here?
Compliment
My husband and I had a flat and didn't know where to go for a repair. He called several places and couldn't even get his call answered. He called Mavis in Deptford, NJ and Matt Whiteley answered the phone. He was very professional and after listening to my husband about our problem told him to come on over and he would take care of the tire. He was able to patch the tire and he even put it back on the car for us. What a pleasure it was to deal with someone who is so very friendly and helpful. He made us feel like an old customer. Thank you Matt. We really appreciate you.
Recommendation: For a good experience go to Mavis Discount Tires in Deptford, NJ.
EXCELLENT staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1900B Rte 17-Ramsey, nj location
I hope this reaches the Corporate office. My experience at Mavis this weekend was way above average. I walked in on a Sunday-no appointment- and was greeted by a staff that completely assisted, put me at ease and made my experience seamless. I dread walking into any auto-type place. It is out of my "wheelhouse" of experience. I trusted them and they delivered. Jamaal and John-I appreciate you. Your professionalism and kindness did not go unnoticed.

Dissatisfied and dishonesty
My first encounter stepping in Mavis tire shop located at Towncenter Boulevard in Pooler, I decided would he my first and last. As soon as I stepped foot in the store I was analyzed to he an extremely simple person and the the abrasive nature and aggression I was met by was sickening. I was yelled and spoken down to for resting my umbrella at the door as it was raining cats and dogs outside.
Next order of business
I received services from the Mavis Tire shop in Pooler on Wednesday, November, 2023. I had a patched tire that was leaking so I ordered a new one through Mavis tires to be installed. Uponn installation, when I drove off the tire seemed fine, however, 30 mins after I realized the air pressure in the other tire was low. I kept putting in air until two days after, I realized it was so flat it would not take the air. When I dragged it to another tire shop, I was told that the tire is unfit to drive on and so they would put on my spare. The tire they that was changed to the spare was at the other tire shop was the very same one they had patched in previous times. So now, I realized the defective tire was taken off and placed on the front passenger side, and repatched while my other good tire was taken and used for what? I don't know. I called corporate, they advised me that the office was aware of this and I should take it to the location to be evaluated. Upon arrival, I was told that hadn't received any messages from corporate. At that time I had the spare tire on so they said my new tire was installed so they don't know what I am talking about. I asked to see the tire that was taken. They searched and found me a tire looking similar to m6 old one which had a nail in it. However, had no patched as my previous tire did. I took videos of the tire thay showed me and so the following morning, I went back to the other tire shop to have pictures of the tire they took off. Just as I had suspected my tire had the correct Dot date as well as the patch I had made in the previous years. So Mavis tires took off my old patched tire.. put it on the other side of the vehicle and the charged me for a new tire. I am asking to speak with the person who handles these cases. Thanks for a prompt response.
The videos showed the tire they said was mine, but that tire had a patched which got another hole next to it.. and that's why I had to change it. The video was too large so it could not be added.
The last set of pictures are the ones I took for the tire that was removed from my vehicle.

Warranty refusal
I had purchased 2 accelera phi-r tires on 5-14-23. These tires last 8000 miles, and 6 months. The wear was complete and consistent. I brought the car in on 11/21/23 to see about replacement. After reviewing the manufacturer website, where clearly stated is a 12 month wear bar full replacement warranty, I approached the counter and explained my issue. After an hour ( time for the tech to evaluate the car) they stated that I would have to pay for new tires. They could find no issue that caused the wear, but refused because I did not "purchase the road hazard warranty ". I reminded them that road hazard was not required, as this is the manufacturer basic warranty, and they repeated the refusal to replace the tires. Additionally, a road hazard claim would be refused, as there was only wear noted.
Completely unacceptable.
This was the Carthage Tx shop.
Bad customer service
I scheduled an appointment on Friday and they kept calling me to confirm my appointment and told me that I can bring in my car earlier. So I came 30 mins earlier from my appointment time and the store manager told me that they are backed down so I could just leave my car or bring it in the next day. So I told him that I can have someone picked me up. Then they called me to tell me that they couldn’t start working on my car that day and if I wanna leave it there ao that they can start working on it in the morning. Saturday noon came and no one called me for an update. I had to call them and they told me that they’re just bringing in my car to get looked at and they’ll call me for updates. Nearing closing time, no one has called me back and when I called the store, they told me that they couldn’t finish it today. The fact that they had the car the Friday 3pm and whole day Saturday, they couldn’t start working on it, call me back and when I called, they just told me they’ll finish on Monday. What kind of service is this!
Recommendation: Look for other mechanic! Don’t go to Mavis!!!
Terrible experience at Pittsfield, MA store
Took over 1 1/2 hours for the mechanic to put on 2 tires. He broke 2 tire pressure sensors! He installed wrong tires! The tire pressure warning light was on as I left after the manager convinced me to keep the wrong tires! I was told that tire sensor light would go out after 50 miles. It did not! Now I have to go back to this horrible place tomorrow! Their website has loads of 5 star reviews that look written by staff. While other review sites are loaded with 1 star reviews! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
Do not buy tires from this place!
I wouldn't suggest you buy your tires here or the warranty or anything from this place. I ordered tires from here and got the warranty then when I need my tire fixed It seemed impossible. They ordered my tire on a Friday their computers supposedly shut down on a Sunday and I'm still waiting on a tire going on the next following week Wednesday and they're still saying it's going to be another day. This is beyond ridiculous I would never ever buy a set of tires from this place again and only reason why I waited so long is because I have a warranty and I don't want to have to come out of pocket any more than what I have to buy a new tire from another place. Just know if their system shuts down you're screwed for days if you need your car.
Recommendation: Go to another tire place!

Took my car for tires, spoke with April Brown to order tires, when I got the car she put Snow Tires on a BMW 335i in South Carolina, really snow tires in South Carolina. The one tire was mounted backwards; didn't install the valve stem caps, seriously scratched the wheels, bolt a lug bolt, total mess. It was like dealing with a bunch of fools that had no clue what they are doing.
Claimed loss: Damaged Wheels, broken lug bolts, wrong tires, wasted time $2,000
Desired outcome: I really think one of two things are in order, either give me a full refund or give me a serious discount on a new set of tires for a future purchase

Snow tires in South Carolina on a 335i is straight-up clown-level incompetence. Mounting one backwards and wrecking your wheels just seals it — they treated your car like a test dummy. Demand they fix every bit of damage or cover the cost elsewhere, because this wasn’t just sloppy — it was reckless.
Revving engine
I went to Mavis at 74 W Westfield Ave., Roselle, NJ 07204 on Jan.23,2025to have my back brakes checked, no repair was done and my car was in the shop for 1 hour. My fob key was taken off my key ring and put in the passenger seat, I explain to Anthony that the very slight touch my car is on and it is revving for a long time, I did not have this problem when...

On February 3, 2025, driving back from our local airport the Kona’s motor started stalling and finally stopped. We had to call a tow truck and had it taken to Hyundai for inspection due to the engine issues. On Feb 5th we received the diagnosis from Hyundai stating that the engine had seized because the oil drain plug was missing. They noticed the Mavis Tires & Brakes oil change sticker on my windshield wiper and advised I call them as they are responsible for the failure.
I immediately called the Mavis location, Store 1794 located on 6025 State Road 70 E, Bradenton FL 34203, and asked to speak to the manager, but he was out and would call me back. On February 6th I missed a call from Mark. I called back and he took my information and said he would investigate it. Mark called me back on Feb. 10th. To my surprise he informed me the claim was denied. I asked to speak to a regional manager. Mark told me I would get a call. To date I have not received any call backs.
The Kona only has 72,580 miles on it, still under warranty. We have 3 payments left. My son uses it and has not been able to attend college nor work for a few weeks due to this.
Claimed loss: The cost to replace the engine is $11,839.66
Desired outcome: That Marvis do right and comply with their warranty statement and repair the damages.

I boiught a new tire from Mavis Discount in Nanuet on December 30, 2024. I was told by phone I needed new lug nuts but was not told the amount. When I received the bill I told the empoyee that the charge seemed very high; he said to get back to him. This was the end of the day, after waiting 2.5 hours. I reserached when I got home and realized I was charged $20 PER LUG NUT and researched Toyota lug nut prices. ALL the prices I saw were $20 for 20 LUG NUTS. NOT TWENTY APIECE. As it is, I believe this Mavis center made a enough money on my purchase. I called and the manager Louis who said he would not credit me because I was not comparing the brand he sold with what I looked at, but EVERY brand I saw was $20 for TWENTY lug nuts. When I asked Louis what brand he put on the tires, he would not tell me, he just said they bought large boxes with no name. That doesn't sound right (no more than the charge of $20 per lug nut,) so of course, it was impossible to compare brands. Louis would not agree to credit me $60 for the additional $20 x 3 charges. I would like the $60 credit, or I can return the lug nuts back to Mavis.
Claimed loss: $60
Desired outcome: Credit of $60, or I will return the lug nuts tomorrow and get back my $80.

On 10/21/24, I had the car serviced for the B-Service. At 4:16pm, Mavis called to let me know the car was ready for pick up. When I picked up the car, I paid $764.57 for “B-Service”. ST: 0562/WO: [protected]/INV: [protected]. On Tue 10/22/24, on my way to work, I stopped at a traffic light, when I realized, I could feel the floorboard, the driver’s seat, & the accelerator pedal shaking, I also, turned down my radio because I heard an unfamiliar noise coming from under the hood, adding that the "B0 Service in 600" display was appearing whenever, I would start up the car.
On 10/30/24, at 8:30am, I return the car back to Mavis, explaining the findings mentioned above to Customer Service, he took the key along with the "B-Service Checklist" I printed from my job. Later, that day the CSR provided me with a “Go to Estimates Recall” price list of $412.25 for additional service tasks that they did not perform the 1st place. I paid for front brake service on 10/21/24. Totaling: $704.13 including 2 new front tires-All Season Dollar Discount. Why is my car indicating brake issues?
Customer Service should've been upfront and explained, they are not familiar with the B-Service for Mercedes. I sure would’ve respected them for their honesty.
However, The mechanics who did the labor work never once came out to greet me about the issues that I was having each time I return with the car! Instead, I was advised by Customer Service that It could sound like it needs a tune up. I brought back the car on Friday 11/1/24 for the tune up and got turned away, stating the 3 mechanics he spoked too does not want to touch the car and they advised to take it to the dealership. Why didn't they say that on Saturday 10/17/24, when I came in with my Niece and I enquired about the B-Service. A mechanic standing beside the CSR said, we do perform that service and if there’s a problem with it, to bring it back in. Which encouraged me to bring it back to them to repair the shaking, and the noise coming from the car.

I bought a battery for my 2017 Nissan Morano at Mavis in Valley Stream NY, in July 2022. (License# NY — CTF1479). The battery malfunctioned and I replaced it at the same Mavis in May 2024. The replacement battery was unfortunately defective (as was likely the original one), and it caused my alternator to malfunction. While riding on the highway, the car suddenly stalled. The tow truck was ready to tow me to the Mavis shop where I bought the battery, but the Mavis shop in Valley Stream informed me that they could not replace an alternator in a 2017 Murano, since it requires a specialist that was unavailable, and I should go elsewhere. The car was towed to another shop who charged me for the alternator, and who also insisted on replacing the battery since it was totally dead. My cost was $750 for a used alternator, $150 for a battery and $272.20 for towing. Had I received a decent battery originally, I would never have had a problem, and my alternator would have not malfunctioned. I am asking for some sort of Mavis service credit for all of the aggravation you caused me and for making me replace the battery for the third time in two years. See below receipts and a picture of the Mavis battery that malfunctioned. My telephone is [protected]-Check your records. I take all of my four cars to Mavis and will go elsewhere in the future if you do not accommodate me for tis horrific experience.

Brake Service
I took my car in for brake servicing as my warning light came on. They told me it was ready and they had replaced rear brakes and pads. Said front did not need replacing. I went in and paid and when I got in my car to leave I noticed the brake warning light was still on. I went back in to ask them to clear it and they said they could not. They didn't have the right computer. The manager said I could come back when one of the employees brought their computer in. I made two attempts to go by and the employee didn't have it. The third attempt he did have it and tried but they were unsuccessful. It led me to wonder if they had replaced the sensor as they should or did not. The manager was rude and I left with the light still on. I also noticed my brakes still grind when I brake. I am wondering if my front brakes do in fact need replacing. Anyhow I have never had a service light that wasn't cleared after servicing. Ever. I consulted with a euro mechanic who said he probably didn't use a mini cooler sensor. I went back again and asked for him to please replace the sensor. I do not believe he did. I was once again sent on my way without the job being finished. I truly would never have paid but was sneakily tricked into paying before knowing the service light was not cleared. It is not right to take someone's money for a job not finished. I am very disappointed and would like to file a claim. Mavis recently bought this NTB location in Bluffton, SC. I hope they will make it right. They clearly do not know how to work on imports. I saw on Yelp other people had reported similar problems.
Claimed loss: $430.00
Desired outcome: Refund. I tried to have them fix it multiple times.

Tire repair, at Mavis tire.
On Saturday, June 29, I went to the Mavis Tire in Sumter, SC to have a nail removed, and tire patched. After almost two hours, I was informed the tire could not be patched due to the nail going in at an angle. The tire was patched both on the inside AND outside of the tire. However it would not hold air. I was told I would need to buy a new tire. I, unhappily bought a new tire, and on Monday morning I took the tire to Walker tire. They were very busy, so I agreed to pick the tire up Tuesday morning putting the patched tire back on the rim and mount it on my vehicle.
The employee from Mavis Tire who patched my tire, had zero idea how to patch a tires. I know for a fact that you cannot patch a tire on the OUTSIDE of the tire casing.

On the morning of March 14, 2024, I brought my Toyota 4-Runner into the Mavis store (#1217) for brake work. I picked up my vehicle that afternoon before heading home after paying $813.18. The next morning (March 13, 2024) I heard a grinding sound resonating from my vehicle. I took my vehicle back to the same Mavis store with the complaint of the grinding sound. The technician who worked on my vehicle drove my vehicle to the service bay to “fix” the problem. I left the Mavis store without the grinding sound resonating from my vehicle. However, the next morning (March 14, 2024), the sound had returned AGAIN.
I entrusted the brake work to Mavis. I returned a second time to Mavis for them to address the problem of the grinding sound that presented after the brake service. When the sound presented yet again, I no longer had confidence in the service I received from Mavis. Therefore, I took my vehicle to the Toyota service department where I had to have the brake work redone costing me $1387.88.
I requested that the Toyota service department return the Mavis parts to me. I contacted the Mavis store Manager to inform him of my dissatisfaction with the work done at his store. I requested a refund, and I returned the rotors and brakes. He informed me that he had been in contact with his General Manager. On March 28, 2024, the manger informed me I would be refunded for the cost of the parts (brakes and rotors), but I am liable for the cost of labor. According to the manager, his General Manager stated that because I did not give Mavis the opportunity to remove their brake work, I must cover the labor for the brake service.
This is where I question the rationale of this matter. Because Mavis did not properly service my vehicle the first nor the SECOND time, I was supposed to entrust the care of my vehicle to Mavis a THIRD time for them to remove the brakes? I was not going to trust service from Mavis a THIRD time. Where is the logic in having Mavis remove their brake work for me to have an immobilized vehicle at their store? The vehicle would have no brakes. Lastly, where is the logic in having the consumer responsible for inadequate service? The brake job was not done satisfactorily as evident by the grinding noise resonating from the brakes. Mavis expects me to pay for the labor on work that Mavis did unsatisfactory. This is unreasonable and irrational.
I am requesting a full refund for the cost of the entire brake job including the labor performed on March 14, 2024. As the consumer, I should not have to absorb the cost of labor for a brake job that was not performed satisfactorily. There were TWO opportunities to suitably perform the work and Mavis did not solve the problem resulting from THEIR brake job. Mavis has inconvenienced me enough with something that should have been addressed properly the first time. I ask that you take what I have presented in this letter into consideration and refund me the total of $813.18.
Claimed loss: $257.05
Desired outcome: Refund of $257.05 for the cost of the labor

Mounted trailer tires
Used the Semmes, AL store today. Was charged $91.86 for them to mount 2-13 inch boat trailer tires. I brought in the tires (already removed from my boat trailer) and brought in the new tires. Simple process for them to change them out. Went back to pick them up and was charged $91.86: Charged for 17 inch rims ( mine were 13 inch) and Computer balance...

Your employees broke one of my brake shoes while I was getting new tires installed at the Jasper, GA brought the car back the next day and they told me there was nothing they could do, and they sent me off in the car and I have been having braking issues since. I’m concerned for my safety continuing to drive the vehicle and I feel that your company should be held responsible for fixing my brake shoe.

Came to Mavis last week for a scheduled appointment. And was not told the machine was down so I made a new appointment to install my tpms. I was quoted on the phone and also was told the sensors I needed to work with their machine. I went out and purchased the ones that would work for them even though I already had a set. I then get to Mavis and they gave me a quote once again. While all my wheels are off they came back and asked if I wanted programmed. Well that’s part of what I discussed. They said no it’s more. So now I am getting my car
Back with no work done even though I was quoted a price. Bad customer service and shady practices 2 weeks in a row. Stay away.

Maintenance Issues
Took my 2004 Ford Ranger into mavis tire to have a check engine light inspected. Dropped the car off at 8am, and was informed around 10am the code was an engine misfire. Was told that spark plugs, Coil, and battery were the culprits. Told them to fix everything. Came back around 6pm after calling around 5pm, and being told the truck is finished. After...

Was going there for Years. My wife went there November 2023, had a regular Oil change like she does every 5000 miles. Three weeks later the Oil Plug fell out, no oil in the Motor. Result, Engine Seized. Now we are out $6500 Plus Dollars for an engine replacement. Mavis Corporate keeps saying the same thing, like a broken record "We are assuming no responsibility" The manager of the shop changed his tone when I called, and his response was "I was told to tell you we assume no responsibility”. So, when they tell you “ Since we had to remove your tires Please come back after a few days So we can make sure the lug nuts are tight” They should now add “Please come back after a few days after we changed your oil so we can make sure the oil plug is tight” Hired an attorney, going to Court. I will keep everyone posted.

JK Tyre 225/45R17
I purchased tires back in Feb 2021 and now it's Jan 2024 Just shy of 3 years. I drive trucks over the road so I don't drive my car but a few times a month if that, I was at 150000 miles when got these 2 tires put on and now I'm at 162800 miles, so just under 13000 miles on tires. Tires are separating in the middle of the tread with a bulge to the side of it And this is on both tires in the same spot. I contacted Mavis where I purchased the tires and they told me because of not getting there warranty they could not help me and because I declined extra work (replace shocks)which my car doesn't need. And also stop by another location and an employee told me because of declining work, That throws up a red flag that because of that they were not willing to help me And said it shows that I was not willing to take care of car. I need something to be done about this, these tires have a 50000 mile warranty and they were no good after 12000.
Desired outcome: Replacement of the 2 tires
