Great company
I have purchased a number of items from this company, one of which is their North Star sprayer. The items purchased have been of the highest quality, their prices are competitive, and their customer service including their techs has been very professional. Have recommended them to several of my fellow ranchers.
Customer service is 2nd to none
This place is awesome, I just purchased over 3k worth of stuff. I started looking for the item I wanted online and they came up. I tried them out on one item and called customer service to ask a few questions and they were very knowledgeable and friendly I went back to the website and bought all the rest of my items, great prices and deals, this place just got themselves a customer for life, thank you northern tool
Derick Miles of Northern Tool in OKC is the Bomb
Northern Tools. Great customer service! Especially Derick Miles, I had a larger order of tools and he helped me with everything. I asked Derick if the brand of tools I was buying was good and he said yes. I believed Derick because of his experience with the tools. If I ever need any tools again I will definitely go back to northern tool and ask for Derick. Derick was over the top out going for me and the other people he was helping at the time.

Great Customer Service
I went to the NT in Memphis, on Summer Ave. To shop for a floor fan. Leon assisted me in finding what I was looking for. He was very polite and helpful, even checking the online price which saved me $40 on my total cost. Because he went above and beyond in assisting me, I purchased a second unit that I had not planned on purchasing. I wish all stores had role models like Leon. Customer service is the backbone to any successful business. Please acknowledge his work ethics.
Service Sucks!
Purchased a post hole auger back in November used once, still under warranty, went to the store for repair was asked to come back in one week to drop off, they were 3 weeks behind, if I come back in one week then you will be 4 weeks behind, manager Robert Bruch got snotty, made the statement"Ya'll got all the answers" talking about me/us the customer. He finally said you can leave it but we want look at it for 3 weeks. I ask for his managers number after hesitation he gave me a number scratched on one of his business cards. I AM DONE!
Excellent customer service Cutler Ridge store
After trying to install a trailer help myself for the first time I find myself looking for a trailer hub at the northern tool store in cutler ridge fl and was helped by Mario who went above and beyond to make sure that we knew what we were doing and that l we found the right tool and gave us all the time that we needed to make sure we were clear and that we understood what we were doing Mario is a valuable asset to this corporation and I hope he is appreciated for doing what he does... definitely will be coming back to this store because of the experience Mario created for us. Great job northern tools on training and hiring Mario!
Thank you Mario!
NT was nothing BUT helpful and quick
I wanted to cancel my order (online) and saw these reviews first. Honestly, these reviews scared me! Anyway, I called them and was on hold for about 2 minutes and was helped by Jordan. My order was 10 days old and said that they most likely can't cancel because it's too far into the process. But, she'd physically contact the shipping department and see what she could do and then email me back. I said okay, never thinking she'd actually email me back. Well, 2 hours later I received an email from her saying that she was able to get my order cancelled.
Jordan was very helpful and genuinely concerned. The shipping (to the store) does take forever and I chose that because of coupon. But I need my item now, which is the reason for the cancellation. Two thumbs up for NT!
One of the primary sources of electrical equipment
One of the primary sources of electrical equipment for the builder and DIYer in the USA, this company has stores in several states and a mail catalog as well as this website. The site is well laid out so navigation and searching is easy. Products are reviewed by users. There are plenty of illustrations and specifications on offer to give you a better idea of what you're about to buy, and there are special offers that are worth checking out too.
The range here includes generators, alternative power sources, workwear, air tools, power tools, hand tools, farm tools, auto repair equipment, auto and SUV parts and accessories, and all those other alpha male things that the Average American Husband allegedly asks Santa for every Christmas as an alternative to socks. It's an extraordinarily varied range of products and well worth bookmarking if you are in the USA, because there's something here for anyone who owns or maintains any kind of home, transport or acreage.
River in Customer Service
River is a customer service rep. That took over a problem I have with FedEx, a jack ordered from Northern Tool on 11/25/19. I know this time of year is also time to be patient. I understand what they go through having a son that works for UPS. Because of this I gave them 2 weeks past the first delivery date for more than enough time to catch up. River called me back and said she didn't think she was FedEx's best friend anymore but I knew that meant she was taking care of me, her customer. River is one of the most friendly, professional Customer Care professionals I have ever worked with. Doing everything she could to get a delivery to happen. Although FedEx called her back almost immediately promising delivery by the end of day 12/13, they did not show up. I saw the truck on my street over the weekend but passed by my home. River and a co-worker that I'm sorry I don't have his name, are both on it now. I'm impressed with River and hope she is recognized as an exceptional employee. As a retail manager myself, it's this kind of person that represents the company to the customer when things aren't always so smooth. She makes Northern Tool a better company. Thank you River!
Terrible Customer Experience from Northern Tool Co.
I ordered a Husqvarna chainsaw from Northern Tool (NT) and never received it. Their carrier, FedEx, thought it would be ok to leave the package on the curb next to the road. When I arrived an hour after the delivery, the chainsaw was gone. I called NT and called FedEx like they told me to. When I called NT back the customer service employee (3rd one) berated me, talked over me and would not listen to my explanation so I asked for a supervisor 5 x before I got one. The supervisor told me that there was no recourse with the celebratory background "Game over" recording, probably played by her subordinate listening in. I'm sure this is a common practice and if NT truly does record "all calls" and if they care about customer service, they should listen to the one I made to get the information first hand. For these reasons, I will never buy anything from Northern Tool again and buyer beware all consumers.
Recommendation: Do not buy from Northern Tool
Mixed Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Great Product, Poor Customer Service
I recently bought a portable air compressor from Northern Tool + Equipment, and let me tell you, it's a real beauty. It's got a GX 390 Honda engine, a 30 gallon tank, and a 175 PSI compressor. This thing is a real powerhouse and works like a charm. I have no complaints about the product itself, but unfortunately, I did have some issues with the customer service representatives.
The problem I had was with the unloader valve on the compressor. This valve is responsible for cutting the engine out at high pressure and cutting it back in at low pressure. When I received a new valve from Northern, the pressures were not set correctly. I called customer service to ask how to adjust it, but they told me that no adjustment was necessary. I was surprised by this response, as I have 40 years of experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and I knew that the valve needed to be adjusted. When I asked if they could show me how to adjust it, they said they couldn't because of liability issues.
After receiving another valve that was also not set correctly, I called customer service again and spoke to another representative. I explained that in order to install the valve, a particular portion of it needed to be removed for clearance, but he told me that was not necessary. I knew he was wrong, and offered to send him a photograph or video to show him the clearance issue, but he refused. He then told me that I was on my own and that if I wanted to bring it to a service center, I could do so at my own expense.
I was disappointed by this response, as I have been a fan of Northern Tool + Equipment for a long time. I have several of their products, including two generators, a 3000 PSI pressure washer, and a 175 PSI air compressor. However, after this experience, I don't think I will be buying from them again.
In the end, I was able to adjust the valve myself and get it working properly, but it was frustrating to have to do it on my own. I wish that Northern Tool + Equipment had been more helpful and willing to work with me to resolve the issue. Despite this experience, I still think that their products are high-quality and well-made, but their customer service could use some improvement.
Disappointing Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Incompetent Customer Service and Delayed Shipment
I recently had an experience with Northern Tool + Equipment (northerntool.com) that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I ordered a piece of equipment that was supposed to be drop-shipped directly from the manufacturer. However, after waiting a week and my tracking number not showing up in the UPS tracking site, I decided to give NT a call to see what was going on.
To my surprise, I was informed that the shipment was on hold in MN because they could not ship to a PO box. I was confused because I do not now, nor have I ever had a PO box! Even more frustrating was the fact that I was never contacted about this issue, despite waiting for a week.
NT assured me that they had sent the correct address over to UPS and that I should be receiving the package soon. However, when I checked the tracking later that day, I saw that it had been delivered - to NT's dock, not mine!
I immediately called NT and explained the situation. I asked if they could get the package sent back out to my address that day. The person I spoke to said he would locate the package and get it forwarded to me. I told him that if he could not do so, to just let me know, as I had another supplier that could have the equipment at my place by Monday.
The following morning, I checked in with NT and was told that the package had not been sent out and that it would take several days to forward. After speaking with a couple of people, they finally told me that they would get it shipped out that night. I received an email later that day saying that the package had shipped and it gave me a tracking number.
However, when I checked the tracking number the following day, it said that a label had been printed, but the package had not arrived at UPS. I assumed that it would go out on Friday evening, but when I checked the tracking number on Monday, it still had not shipped! It had been a full four days since they promised they would forward it to me, and they still had not shipped it to me!
This experience has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I had a job that required the equipment, and I am losing money because of the delay. Not to mention the expedited shipping I am going to have to spend with the other shipper, because Northern Tool is incompetent and completely lacking in any sort of customer service skills. And this does not even touch on how long it takes to actually talk to someone when you call.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Northern Tool + Equipment. They have lost a customer forever with me on this transaction.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience with Northern Tool: A Review
I recently made an order for a portable generator on northerntool.com on September 5th. The confirmation email stated that the delivery would take 2-4 business days, and I was advised to check back in 24 hours for tracking information. However, when I checked the next day, there was no tracking information available. I decided to call the customer service number to inquire about the status of my order. The representative informed me that they had no information and that the delivery would take 4-6 business days. I was surprised to hear this as it was not what I was told previously.
I decided to read the email to the representative, and they did some further investigation. They informed me that the item was on backorder and would take at least 2 weeks to arrive. I was disappointed with this news, so I decided to cancel the order and place another order for a different generator that was in stock and would get to me in 2-4 business days. I waited another 24 hours, but there was still no tracking information available. I called customer service again, and a different representative informed me that they had no tracking information and that shipping would take 6-8 business days once the order was processed. Processing could take 24-72 hours.
I spoke with several supervisors, but none of them seemed to have a clue about the situation. Finally, I was able to speak to Stephanie, who was based out of Minnesota. She was phenomenal! She worked on getting the original generator I wanted, was very apologetic for the previous situations, and even came in on her day off the next day to help finish the order. She had to wait for the first order to be released from the card. I placed the order and waited. A few hours later, I called to check if there was any information, but another representative informed me that the order was processing and was not part of the shipment that left that morning.
I was absolutely floored by the whole experience. I learned that I should never trust a customer service representative and always ask to speak to a supervisor. Most of the representatives that I spoke with were clueless about how to handle situations if it wasn't spelled out for them in a standard answer. Only Stephanie said, "let me see what we can do here." I know that people answering the phone might not have the ability to do what Stephanie did, but at least say, "let me get you to a supervisor," ask questions, or do something! By far, this was the worst customer service I have ever seen.
Disappointing Customer Service and False Excuses from Northern Tool + Equipment
I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with Northern Tool + Equipment. I thought I'd give them a shot after getting an email about a sale they were having, but boy was that a mistake.
I placed two orders and was given delivery dates that came and went without any updates. So, I reached out to their customer "care" team to see what was going on. Instead of owning up to their mistake, they told me they had cancelled my order due to a problem with the delivery address.
I knew that wasn't true, so I sent them a screenshot of my order showing that there was no error with the address. Then, they changed their story and said there was a problem with my payment. Again, I sent them proof that my payment had gone through just fine.
Finally, they told me they couldn't see the status of my order on their screens and that I needed to re-do the order. I asked if they would honor the sale pricing since the mistake was on their end, but they refused and told me it was my problem.
Honestly, I was pretty fed up with their terrible customer service and lack of accountability. They just kept inventing bogus reasons for their own incompetence and blaming me for their mistakes.
I told them I would never do business with them again and I stand by that. If you're looking for a company that handles service issues professionally and doesn't make up false excuses, I'd suggest shopping elsewhere.
Cautionary Tale: My Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment's Customer Service
I recently had an experience with Northern Tool + Equipment and I have to say, it was a bit of a rollercoaster. My partner and I were in the market for a garage in a box and we decided to order from Northern Tool + Equipment on July 11th, 2020. After we made the purchase, we received an email letting us know that the item was on backorder and wouldn't be available until the 28th or 29th of July.
We then received another email saying that the garage in a box would be delivered on July 31st and that we would receive a phone call to set up a delivery time. Unfortunately, we never received that phone call. After calling the company, we were informed that the delivery date was not actually the delivery date, but rather the date that the trucking company would receive the item.
We finally received a call on Monday to set up an appointment for delivery between 1pm and 5pm. However, the driver never called and when we called to inquire, we were told that the trucker had problems and that the delivery would be between 5pm and 7pm. We waited until after 7pm, but the driver never showed up. We called the trucking company and they informed us that they had taken the item back to their hub.
We were frustrated and decided that we no longer wanted the item. However, when we called Northern Tool + Equipment to decline the order and request a refund, we were told that we had to wait for the truck and garage to be returned to them before we could receive a refund. We spoke to eight different customer service representatives, two of them twice, and each time we were told that they didn't know where the item was and that we would receive a refund once they received it.
After weeks of back and forth, we finally received our refund on August 20th, 2020. It was a frustrating experience and we felt that the customer service was lacking. However, we were eventually able to receive our money back.
Overall, I would caution buyers to be aware of the potential issues with Northern Tool + Equipment. While we were eventually able to receive our refund, it was a long and frustrating process. The customer service representatives were not always helpful and we felt that the company could have done more to rectify the situation.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Delayed Delivery and Lack of Action on Lost Package
I recently made a purchase from Northern Tool + Equipment, and I have to say, I am not impressed with their customer service. I ordered a Klutch Bench Sander on December 28th, and it cost me $235 plus $68 for shipping. The item was shipped two days later via UPS, but unfortunately, there was a "mechanical failure" in the midwest, which caused a delay in delivery. I live in California, so this was quite frustrating.
After a few days, UPS tracking said that the item would be delivered on January 9th, but it never arrived. Then they said it would be delivered on January 12th, but it still hadn't been unloaded from the truck. On the morning of January 13th, UPS said that it was "left in the warehouse." I decided to call Northern Tool to see if they could help me out.
At first, they seemed very helpful and talked about possibly sending me another unit while they sorted out the problem with UPS. However, when I called them back the next day, I got a different story. They told me that they had instituted a trace with UPS, but it would take three to five business days to complete. Until the trace was finished, they couldn't do anything for me. This was very frustrating, as I had paid an additional $68 for premier shipping.
Based on my experience, I am confident that UPS has lost the package, and another one will need to be shipped. However, Northern Tool won't take any action until as late as January 20th. I find this attitude towards lost packages very disappointing. In the past, other companies have just shipped another item and told me to refuse the first one if it ever arrived. Northern Tool's response seems to be "tough luck."
It looks like my bench sander, which shipped on December 30th, won't arrive until sometime after January 30th. This is a huge inconvenience, and I feel like Northern Tool should be doing more to help me out. If a package is several days late and the shipping company has no idea where it is, the supplying company should ship a replacement and demand that the shipping company return the item (if they ever find it) and refund their original shipping fees. If this happened with Amazon, the replacement shipping service would also be upgraded at no charge.
After reading other reviews of Northern Tool, it seems like this is a common problem. They always seem to blame the customer for delays, rather than taking responsibility themselves. I hope that they will improve their customer service in the future, as this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Disappointing Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Defective Product and Poor Customer Service
I gotta say, I'm not too happy with Northern Tool + Equipment. I mean, if I could give them zero stars, I would. Let me tell you about my experience.
So back in January, I ordered a couple of Vestil 48in. Manual Carousels from them. They cost me about $430 each, and I had to pay around $89 for shipping both of them. But because of some supply chain issues, they didn't arrive until March. And when they did finally show up, they were just wrapped in some plastic and the driver stood them on end. Not exactly what I was expecting.
Anyway, I stored them in my garage for about a month until I had room for them. But when I finally tried to use them, one of them just didn't work right. It kept catching and stopping whenever I turned it, loaded or unloaded. So I contacted Northern Tool's customer service, and they seemed friendly enough. But then they just sent me an impersonal email saying that since the vendor, Vestil, had shipped the product directly, I had to deal with them myself. Not exactly great customer service, if you ask me.
So I contacted Vestil, and they asked me to describe the problem and send them a video of how it functioned. I did all that, but then they just said they weren't sure what had happened and that they could offer me a replacement at no additional cost. But get this: the shipping was estimated at close to $300! I mean, come on. The cost to ship both of them to begin with was only $89, and now they want me to pay $300 to ship just one? And they didn't even try to troubleshoot the problem or anything.
So I went back and forth with them for a while, and finally Northern Tool's customer service said they would pay for half the shipping (around $150). But I had to front the money, and I wasn't sure if the replacement would be any better. I mean, if one of them was defective, who's to say the other one wouldn't be too?
The whole thing was just a huge waste of time and money. And the worst part is that Northern Tool is the company I bought these from, so they should be standing behind their products. I mean, I can't even use half of what I ordered. Needless to say, I won't be ordering anything from them again.
Defective Pump Ruins Northern Tool Sprayer - Poor Business Practice
I got my hands on this product at the end of April this year. The packaging was done nicely and everything was in place as it should be. The assembly process was easy and straightforward. I used it for the first time in early May and it worked as advertised. I flushed the tank and waited for the next time to use it. The next time came just two days ago. I hooked it up to the back of my mower, filled it up and started down the driveway, but the pump didn't want to work. I checked the electrical connections, etc. but to no avail. I got a Multimeter and tested the battery to be sure there was enough power to the pump, which turned out good. Wiring was good as were the terminals on the battery. Keep in mind, this is only the second time using this sprayer and it is garage kept and in no way left in any type of rough environment.
I emailed Northern Tool and explained what has happened. They wrote back apologizing for the "inconvenience regarding your sprayer" and that "as this item is past our 45 day return/exchange policy, we are unable to issue return authorization instructions for this item." Purchase date is April 21st, my email to them was June 23d. Yes, out of the 45 day range; but apparently not close enough to keep a return customer. Evidently mine is not the first review explaining a defective pump: the pump is brand new and I should have reasonable expectation that it will work for a while; nothing lasts forever, and I get that. BUT, Northern Tool continues selling this product fully knowing the pump is at best - subpar. I suppose 45 days isn't such a bad policy considering the likelihood the pump will perform on its maiden voyage and that most people won't be spraying again within 45 days.
The unit itself doesn't seem to be bad. But if the pump doesn't work then it cannot be a "sprayer." Rather, it is just an overpriced 13 gallon storage tank and nothing more. I suppose what I can do is find a replacement pump certainly not one which has anything to do with this company and try it from there. If not, I will just chalk this up to a poor purchase and find something else.
I can say that I will never purchase so much as a package of seeds from this company, ever again. It's too bad, because I like the store and browse around it often. All my other purchases at Northern were fine and the employees in the store were friendly enough. But after this, and make no mistake continuing to sell this sprayer with its defective pump is a poor business practice, I am done with Northern Tool. And if family/friends ask me where to find similar products I will tell them where NOT to go.
Poor Customer Service and Discrimination at Northern Tool + Equipment Due to Mask Policy
I recently visited Northern Tool + Equipment on 290 and had a less than pleasant experience. As my husband and I were browsing the aisles, a manager, who happened to be a long haired brunette female, came storming down the aisle towards us. She immediately began shouting at us, accusing us of shoplifting and demanding that we leave the store immediately. We were taken aback by her aggressive behavior and felt humiliated by the way she treated us.
It turns out that the reason for her outburst was because we were not wearing masks. We were not aware of the recent Harris County order to wear masks in public as we had just come from a neighboring county where it was only suggested. We were on our way home from our ranch where we had livestock to look after and had forgotten to bring our masks with us from another vehicle. We were never verbally warned or notified of the store's mask policy when we first entered the store. We were not greeted or acknowledged by anyone working in the front of the store, nor were we helped by anyone in the aisles as we searched for what we needed.
We were practicing social distancing and were surprised by the manager's harsh and disrespectful behavior. She didn't seem to care who heard her throughout the store, which made the situation even more embarrassing. We would have been happy to leave if she had simply been polite and directed her comments to us only, in a calm voice. This is what good customer service should look like, especially when handling difficult situations. Unfortunately, this was not the case at Northern Tool + Equipment.
As someone in my 70s, I appreciate extra help and understanding, but I did not receive either during my visit. I looked for signs on the store's entrance for any guidelines, but there were none that clearly stated "MASKS REQUIRED." Instead, there was a long paragraph about the virus, and at the bottom, in the same font as the rest of the text, it said, "therefore we are requiring masks to be worn." This was not a clear or concise message, and it was easy to miss.
We had planned on spending a lot of money at Northern Tool + Equipment, but we were turned off by the manager's behavior. We felt like we were being discriminated against because of our age or race. Her style of welcome was not inviting, and we will not be returning to this store under her management. It's important for managers to excel in customer service and handle difficult situations with grace and respect. Unfortunately, this was not the case during our visit.
Poor Customer Service and Refund Process at Northern Tool + Equipment
I recently had to replace the motor on my pressure washer and decided to check out Northern Tool + Equipment's website. They had sent me a flyer with a great price on a 420 CC engine, which was even cheaper than Harbor Freight with their best coupon. I decided to head to my local store, number 555 in Madison Tennessee, to purchase the engine. Before heading to the store, I called ahead and spoke with Frank, who assured me they had some in stock and to ask for him when I arrived.
Upon arriving at the store, I found Frank and he was able to get the engine for me. He explained that it was the cheapest one they had and they only sold it to complete with Harbor Freight. Frank suggested the $79.99 extended warranty since it was the cheapest one they sold and the engine was only rated for 500 hours. I took the sheet of paper but had no intention of buying it.
Frank brought the engine to the register for me on a cart. When I got to the register, Gabi, my sales associate, asked to see the paper. I told her it was an extended warranty that I did not want to buy, but she still wanted to see it. I gave her the paper and she explained that they did not have a return policy on gasoline engines, even if they were still in the box. I was unsure if it would fit my application exactly since I hadn't taken the pressure washer apart yet. I ended up buying a $49.99 one-year extended warranty so that if I was wrong, I could at least bring it back.
Gabi completed the sale and then told me my engine would be in soon. I explained to her that it was sitting on a cart in front of me. She thought it was a special order because the white piece of paper is what special orders look like. She asked a nearby manager how to cancel the sale and they explained that she would have to email them so that it could be refunded. The only way to move forward was to re-run the sale again. I chose to do this on my credit card instead of my debit card so I wouldn't tie up so much money. She said my money would be refunded tomorrow and it's not that big a deal. She said she was sorry for the mistake but that working two jobs was really getting to her.
I used my credit card to purchase the engine and went home. I watched the charges and both of them cleared on both cards. The following Tuesday, I returned to the store and spoke with the manager who had told Gabi to email the issue to them. The manager was helpful and said she would go email again right that moment and she did. I waited until Friday, a week from my original purchase, to call the store again. To my surprise, Gabi answered the phone. I explained who I was and asked her if she remembered the sale and could find out the status of my refund. I reminded her that she told me I would get my money back tomorrow. She explained that sometimes with larger amounts it took longer to get a refund. I asked her to quantify what a larger amount was. She said over $250. I suggested that maybe I should call my credit card company and explain to them that it was a fraudulent charge so I could get my refund in a more timely manner. This agitated Gabi a great deal and she said that their company did not steal from me. I explained that I had never accused them of theft, I just thought it might be a method to get my refund in a more timely manner. I thanked her again for her help and hung up.
This problem would not have occurred had Gabi just listened to me in the first place when I was in line instead of making assumptions. I have yet to get a solid answer about how to get my money back. These employees must get some compensation for up-selling warranties. I should have gone to Harbor Freight. I never intend to do business with Northern Tool + Equipment again in my lifetime.

The absolute worse customer service ever
Just got back from Northern Tool over on 290. Oh, WOW... Some long haired, brunette, female who works there (manager?) came storming down the isle to us, raising her voice at my husband and I, treating us as if we were shop lifting - "YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE STORE IMMEDIATELY! NOW!" Seriously, those were her first words out. Not 'hi' or 'sorry to tell you'... or 'did you not see our sign?'... But - "YOU NEED TO LEAVE...!". We've never been so humiliated. I get her concern - we were not wearing masks, we DID NOT KNOW of the recent Harris county ORDER to wear masks in public as we were on our way home from two counties over where we have a ranch with livestock to look after, and had forgotten to take our masks with us from another vehicle. The last we knew, it was SUGGESTED we should wear masks and is why we entered the store without them. The county we had just come from - some people had them, some didn't. We were NEVER, at any time, verbally warned or notified of the store rule when we FIRST entered the store by ANYONE. Which means we were not greeted, or acknowledged, by anyone working in the FRONT (and absolutely should have been), or anyone 'helping' in the isles as we spent several minutes trying to find what we were looking for and get out of there. So we had been in there a while before this was the very first time we had been told, and in this manner. Are you kidding me?! We were practicing social distancing. This female was absolutely harsh and disrespectful not caring who heard her throughout the store, because everyone could. It was horribly embarrassing and unnecessary. We would have been glad to leave, she only needed to be polite, which would have gone a long way, directing her comments to us only, in a calm voice, which surprisingly should be expected anyway in good customer service when handling difficult situations. Does Northern Tool NOT require this? That alone separates managers who excel and mediocre managers. We are in our 70's so not beyond appreciating some extra help or understanding. Just to clarify, I had looked for signs on first entering the store for any guidelines, as most stores now have some sort of guidelines posted. There were none that clearly said at quick read, 'MASKS REQUIRED'. None whatsoever! What there was, as I looked leaving the store to see what we missed, was some long blah blah about the virus, and at the BOTTOM in the SAME FONT as the rest of the print mind you, it said - 'therefore we are requiring masks to be worn...' Seriously? What happened to a simple to read - 'MASKS REQUIRED?' There. I fixed it! Give me a freakin' break. We had planned on spending big money. I know we didn't have masks on, but was it our age? Our race? Why treated so very harsh? She chose not to help clarify the situation in a manner that was inviting to come back. One thing for sure, we choose not be back under that kind of management. That style of welcome is not needed.

Store 662 9/8/23 paul p. Began with helping me with a return after waiting 30 to 40 min.for help in the first place my return was over 300 dollars cash so I was told I would have to wait several weeks for my return of my funds in matter of a check Paul p. Was extremely rude and disrespectful in his attempt to be of service maybe he needs to go to customer service class.
Desired outcome: Some type of action that is recognized and heard
Online ordering
I ordered a Milwaukee item online on 8/1/2023 to be picked up in store. Northern tool charged my card, then sent me an email an hour and a half later stating they cannot sell this item. I called customer service to ask for a refund. They put me on a 10 minute hold, came back on and said they would have to convert my money paid for it into a gift card! I argued and got nowhere. I want to buy this item elsewhere, but I will be stuck with a gift card to Northern Tool instead! The item is still shown online and available for ordering even though I let them know. SCAM!
Desired outcome: Refund or the item I paid for

Frustrating Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Incompetent Staff and Poor Customer Service
I had a pretty frustrating experience with Northern Tool + Equipment (northerntool.com) back in December of 2020. I was in need of some tools and equipment for my trade, so I decided to place an order with them. I ordered a total of 12 items, with 8 of them showing as in stock at my local retailer and the remaining 4 showing as "will ship in 2-5 days."
The next morning, I received an email stating that my items were ready for pickup at my local store. I was excited to get my hands on them, but when I arrived at the store, I was disappointed to find that not a single item was there. This was the first of several wasted trips to their inconvenient location.
The manager in the store told me that all online orders were sent to the store and they never "pull items" from their in-stock inventory to reserve for online orders. I was frustrated and presented a hard copy of my email telling me to come in and pick up my items (dated and timed). The manager looked dumbfounded and seemed to realize that he had made a mistake. He ran to the back and spent 10 minutes doing something before coming back to tell me that all of my items were ordered and would be in within a week or two.
To make a long story short, I ended up making 6 unnecessary trips to the store due to staff incompetence. They kept telling me that my entire order was ready for pickup when it wasn't, and their over-the-phone customer service was useless. On top of that, their hours were not even posted correctly for Saturday hours online. To add insult to injury, my items got backordered and pushed back 1.5 months. I eventually just returned every item once it came in because I was able to walk into a competitor's store during this entire time and buy off the shelf.
Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed with my experience with Northern Tool + Equipment. They lost my business for good. As a tradesman who primarily uses Milwaukee tools, I value brand loyalty. If Milwaukee came out tomorrow and said they would sell exclusively through Northern Tool, I would stop buying Milwaukee. I'd jump brands before going back to Northern Tool.
Disappointing Customer Service and Short Gift Card Expiration at Northern Tool + Equipment
I've been a customer of Northern Tool + Equipment for quite some time now, but unfortunately, my recent experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. I had purchased two engine stands and two screw jacks for a little over $1000, and while I could have gotten them cheaper and faster from another company, Northern Tool had a promotion for "free" gift cards that caught my attention. Spending over $500, I received an email with a $100 gift card number and pin. However, when I went to use it, I got called away from the computer and never finished the order. The second time I went to use it, the balance was $0. I called the company to find out that it had expired less than two weeks ago and they would not refund the money.
The customer service representative informed me that the expiration date was in the email, and upon checking, I found that it was indeed there. However, the gift card was only good for exactly 90 days, which I found to be a very short period of time. I must admit that it was my fault for not reading the whole email, but I had never heard of a gift card only being good for three months. When I expressed my disappointment to the lady on the phone and told her that I only bought from them for the gift card and would not spend any more money with them, she did not seem to care at all. I was shocked at the lack of concern for a customer who had spent over $1000 with them.
As a homeowner and owner of a home improvement company, I am constantly buying tools and equipment to get my jobs done. However, after this experience, I have decided that I will not be purchasing anything else from Northern Tool + Equipment. The customer service was terrible, and I was left feeling like my business did not matter to them. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of empathy and willingness to help was disappointing. I will be taking my business elsewhere, where I know I will be treated with respect and appreciation. It's a shame because I used to enjoy receiving their catalogs, but now I will be throwing them away without a second thought.
Disappointing Experience with Northern Tool and Equipment: Delayed Shipping, Backorders, and Wrong Size
I recently made a purchase from Northern Tool and Equipment in September. I was trying to get a head start on my Christmas shopping and ordered a pair of men's overalls in the size of 36"x30". I was excited to receive my order, but unfortunately, it did not arrive as quickly as I had hoped. I had ordered items from other merchants and they all arrived within 2-5 days, but I did not receive any tracking information for my overalls.
In early October, I decided to reach out to customer service to check the status of my order. I was informed that the product did not come through them and that it would be shipped directly from the manufacturer. I was also told that there was a backlog, which was not mentioned on the Northern website when I placed my order. The website clearly showed that the overalls were in stock.
As time passed, I continued to check the status of my order. Unfortunately, it was still on backorder. This continued throughout October, and then in November, I finally received an email that my order would be arriving. However, when I received the overalls, they were the wrong size. They were four inches too small.
I immediately called customer service to report the issue. However, the customer service representative was not very helpful. They asked for pictures of the labels and I had to send all the information and pictures drop ship to Liberty, the manufacturer. I have been trying to get in touch with customer service since then, but I have not received any response.
I have emailed, called customer service, and tried to use the chat function, but I have not received any response. I have repeatedly asked for them to please return my call with information as to whether they will be replacing the overalls or if I should give up and shop somewhere else. Unfortunately, I have not received any response.
As someone who does a lot of online shopping, I can honestly say that this is the worst company I have dealt with. They just do not seem to care about their customers. They have my money, so it seems like they consider the case closed. I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Northern Tool and Equipment.
Disappointing Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Missing Parts and Unreliable Customer Service
I recently had an experience with Northern Tool + Equipment that left me feeling disappointed. While this review is not specifically about the product I purchased, I feel it is important to share my experience with the company as a whole.
I ordered a pallet jack from Northern Tool + Equipment and was excited to receive it. However, when it arrived, I quickly realized that it was missing the handle. I refused the delivery and waited for a replacement to arrive. The second time the pallet jack arrived, it had the handle attached, but several parts were missing and the jack was badly damaged. It was unusable without a wheel pin and a bolt that connects the handle to the frame, and the other two bolts were bent.
I contacted customer service and was given the option to either return the product for a replacement or receive a discount. I decided to keep the pallet jack, but only if they sent me the missing parts. They did send the parts, but when I followed up with customer service to ensure that I would receive the promised discount, I was told that since they had sent the parts, the discount was no longer applicable.
While I appreciate that they sent the missing parts, I was disappointed that they did not honor their word and provide the discount they had promised. It was only a 10% discount, but it was the principle of the matter. I would caution others to be wary of Northern Tool + Equipment, as their customer service may not always be reliable.
In conclusion, I would advise potential customers to proceed with caution when considering Northern Tool + Equipment. While they may have quality products, their customer service may not always be up to par. It is important to be aware of the potential for missing parts and damage upon delivery, and to be prepared to follow up with customer service if necessary.
Terrible Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Order Never Arrived, Poor Customer Service, and No Refund
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with Northern Tool + Equipment. I ordered some tool boxes that cost me over $1800 on December 14th, 2018, and was supposed to get them delivered on December 20th, 2018. But guess what? They never showed up! So, I called customer service and they had no clue where my order was, who shipped it, or what the tracking number was. They promised to call me back, but they never did. I had to make several more calls, but each time I was transferred to customer service, and I had to wait on hold for over 20 minutes. It was so frustrating!
I had to wait until the next business day because of the Christmas holiday, and when I called again, I got the same story. I even emailed Alan in customer service, but it was the same old thing. The next day, I was told that the manufacturer company that was supposed to have shipped my order was canceled, and they still didn't know where it was, who shipped it, or what the tracking number was. They promised not to charge my card until it was shipped, but they charged it before Christmas. I called them again on December 26th, 2018, and it was still the same story.
By December 27th, 2018, I had had enough and requested my funds be returned because I found the boxes I needed from a much more reliable company. But guess what? They told me I couldn't get my money back, and if I refused the shipment, they would charge me 15% for something they didn't even know where it was! Can you believe that?
But wait, there's more! On December 27th, 2018, at 2:11 pm, they told me it was shipped on December 26th, 2018, and it may or may not be delivered on January 3rd, 2019. Imagine that! Yesterday they knew nothing. The people in customer service I spoke with were Lisa, Hattie, and Alan, but when I requested a manager, they wouldn't give me that information.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. There are so many other companies out there that want your business and will treat you better than this. Stay away from Northern Tool + Equipment!
Disappointing Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Lack of Communication and Honesty
I ordered a cast iron burner from Northern Tool + Equipment (northerntool.com) back in August, but by December, I still hadn't received it. I was pretty frustrated, especially since they only communicated with me once in September to let me know there was a delay. When I called to check the status, I was told by each representative that they were back-ordered and that they would receive some on a certain date to be shipped. But when that date came, nothing shipped. I went through this several times with customer service, and it was really starting to get on my nerves.
The last straw was when I spoke to a representative in December who told me the item was back-ordered again until January. I had spoken to a representative just a few days earlier who told me the item would be shipping that week, so I was pretty upset to hear that it was back-ordered again. I asked to speak to a supervisor because I was fed up with getting the runaround. The representative came back on the line (not the supervisor) only to tell me that no shipments of the product had come in since the date of my order in August. I was pretty angry at this point. Why was I being told that shipments were coming in and that they were being back-ordered when that wasn't the case?
If they had just been upfront with me about production issues and the time-frame in which I'd receive the product, I would have been fine with that. But the lack of communication and the lies really bothered me. I don't want to do business with a company that doesn't value honesty and transparency. So, unfortunately, I didn't get any answers, help, or most importantly, my burner. I asked for a refund of the regulator that they actually shipped, and they said they could do so with the return of the regulator and that they would send a return label. It's now January 6th, and I still haven't received the label, even though I made that call weeks ago.
I have to say, I'll never do business with Northern Tool again, online or otherwise. This was hands down the worst shopping experience I've had in my 38 years. It's really disappointing when a company doesn't live up to your expectations, especially when you've spent your hard-earned money with them. I hope they can improve their communication and customer service in the future.
Discrimination at Northern Tool + Equipment on Military Highway: A Review
Hey folks, I just wanted to share my experience with Northern Tool + Equipment located on Military Highway. Let me tell you, it was not a pleasant one. My parents and I visited the store on July 4th, 2022 to purchase some tools that we needed. My dad was interested in a drill, so I went to the front to ask for some assistance. One of the workers was standing there, and when I asked him for help, he seemed to have an attitude. He reluctantly gave us the drill and we continued to browse the store.
When we were ready to pay, I asked one of the cashiers about the rewards program. I had been told on a previous visit that if we entered our phone numbers, we would receive points and eventually a $25 gift card. However, the cashier told me that this was not true and whoever told me that was lying. I was disappointed but decided to let it go.
As the cashier was scanning our items, we were waiting for him to ask us about the warranty on the drill. He never mentioned it, so my dad asked me in Spanish if it had a warranty. The cashier made a face when he heard us speaking Spanish, and I immediately felt uncomfortable. I told him that we could speak English too and asked if he had a problem with us speaking Spanish.
After we paid, we asked for a bag to carry our items. The cashier told us that they were out of bags, but I noticed a full stack of bags next to him. I didn't say anything and just walked out of the store.
I didn't want to ruin my July 4th celebrations, but I felt like I needed to share my experience with others. This store is racist and discriminates against people who speak a different language. If you're ever in the area and need to visit Northern Tool + Equipment, be careful and watch out for their discriminatory behavior. The store is located at 1120 N Military Hwy, Norfolk, VA.
Slow Shipping and Poor Customer Service from Northern Tool + Equipment
I recently bought a Honda Self Propelled Mower - 160cc from Northern Tool + Equipment (northerntool.com) on 4/19/2017. I decided to have it shipped to a nearby store to avoid shipping charges. However, on 4/24/17, I had not received any shipping notifications, so I emailed customer service to inquire about the status. The following day, 4/25/2017, I received a reply that didn't really answer my question. They said, "My records indicate your order is preparing to ship from our warehouse and should arrive at the store before 05/06. The store will contact you when it is available for pickup. I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced".
I can't believe that in this day and age, with the speed of most companies' logistic and distribution solutions, it would take two and a half weeks to fulfill an order. I purchase almost everything online from multiple companies, but I have never experienced such slow service.
Ironically, I had the opportunity to purchase the exact same mower from Home Depot, which is closer to my home, but for some reason, I went with Northern. Now, the grass continues to grow and grow, and I am in a new home without my rider, which I left at my last home. The time and money I thought I was saving by buying online is now costing me, as I have to hire a lawn care company at $50 a mow to keep the grass cut for two more weeks for four service calls.
I wish customer service would have offered to let me stop at the local store and get the exact same mower off the shelf. Northern had an opportunity to make a happy customer, but they missed it.
This post is not a slam on the Honda mower. I have never owned one, but all the reviews on the mower are positive. So, good luck to me when it does finally show up.
My advice is to get the product in the store and stay away from online shopping to save yourself the frustration. I still have 10 more days of wondering ahead of me.
Disastrous Shipping and Customer Service: My Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment
I recently made a purchase from Northern Tool + Equipment, specifically the Skid-Steer Boom Crane (Model# SSTB-3500). I was excited to receive my order, but unfortunately, it was shipped from the manufacturer and the freight company sent it out "long Haul" from Litchfield, IL to my location in Washington State. However, after 300 miles, it was turned around and sent back to Saint Louis, MO, which is 34 miles south of the original departure location. Old Dominion Trucking showed a "weather delay" on their site, but the Northern Tool site showed a more detailed map of what was going on.
After a three-day delay, it hopped across the country, stopping and getting loaded on a new truck every 400-600 miles, with nine transfers across the country. Northern Tool advertised 9-11 days for delivery, but after 15 days, it finally arrived in the Seattle terminal, which was two hours and a ferry ride from our location. Old Dominion would be transferring to another carrier that only delivers 1-2 days a week depending on loads. In other words, another week if I was lucky, making it double the estimated delivery. I opted to hold it at the Seattle terminal and made the 4-hour round trip, including a ferry, to pick it up.
Upon arrival and inspection, the pallet was destroyed, and the boom was loose on the pallet. There were several scrapes and scratches, including one major spot (6"x9") where it had chaffed on the side wall of the truck (clearly for a long period of time). I documented everything and contacted Northern Tool, and they offered me a $50 gift card, which I found insulting given the $240 I paid for freight and another $100+ in ferries and gas, not to mention my time driving 4 hours. This also does not include repairs.
They then offered to pick it up (at my cost) and return it, which would cost me $480 in freight and nothing to show for it. As far as the boom itself, all the welds look good, and it's heavy-duty (the only reason it survived). However, there is no primer, and it appears to be only a single coat of paint. Powder coat or at least primer would have helped prevent all the scrapes and scratches.
Given Northern Tool's lack of fairness in dealing with the issues, I will never order from them again! It's a shame because the boom itself is of good quality, but the shipping and customer service were a complete disaster. I hope they can improve their processes and treat their customers with more respect in the future.
Terrible Experience with Northern Tool + Equipment: Generator Caused Fire in My House
I had a terrible experience with Northern Tool + Equipment. I made the mistake of purchasing a generator from them and it turned out to be a complete disaster. I spent $1800 on a *** watt generator and it ended up causing a fire in my house. The fire investigator determined that the cause of the fire was a gas leak in the carburetor.
It all started when I went outside at 1am to add gas to the generator. To my horror, there was already a fire inside the generator. When I tried to turn it off, it backfired multiple times and caused the fire to spread even more. My boyfriend and I tried to fight the flames, which grew to be over 20 feet high and caught my roof on fire. Thankfully, my boyfriend was able to contain the flames on our roof using the hose. The fire marshal said that if we had waited just five more minutes, the entire roof would have been in flames.
We tried to reach out to Northern Tool + Equipment to get them to pay for the damages, but we had no luck. My brand new house was almost burned down, my car has $4000 in damages, my boyfriend's car has damages, and we were not reimbursed for the generator we bought just days before the fire.
I am so grateful that we were able to get out of the house in time. If we hadn't gone outside at 1am, the outcome could have been much worse. This was the scariest moment of my life and it all happened in a matter of minutes.
I have a family friend who is a lawyer and he suggested that we reach out to Northern Tool + Equipment before taking legal action. Unfortunately, the company didn't seem to care about what had happened. They asked us to send in the part that malfunctioned, but the entire generator was fried!
I would strongly advise against buying anything from Northern Tool + Equipment. They almost burned my house down, burned my cars, and put my family in danger. Please share this review to help others avoid making the same mistake that I did.
Wood splitter pump
I had bought a second pump for a wood splitter and after about two hours use the pump failed exactly the same way the first one did I went back to the Burnsville store and basically was told it was my fault I find it hard for me to accept this especially when it cost 311.00 dollars The fitting failed on the pump the service person said it must have been cross threaded which I know isn't right because my neighbor was there checking my work because the first one failed Part #791861
Desired outcome: I want a refund

Warranty Repair
Purchased a wood chipper less then 1 year ago from Northern Tool. 2 weeks ago went to use it and noticed the chain guard cover was cracked at one of the attachment points. It was a clean cracked likely secondary from vibration of the machine (less then 25 hour usage). I was going to attempt to repair myself with a bonding agent epoxy, but since it has a 3 year warranty, I thought I would report and have fixed by Northern Tool. I called repair department customer service and was told I would have to bring the machine in. It weighs about 300 pounds and I DO NOT have a way to bring it back as a unit. I asked if I could bring just the part in for evaluation. They informed me several times in the conversation "they just don't replace parts. They have to service it and determine what needs to be repaired." I have had several items in the past that parts could be replaced without having to bring back the entire item. This seemed to be a simple fix from Northern Tools. Remove item from machine (2 bolts) and have repaired or replaced. The manger informed me of the same thing. Apparently NT has a mobile repair service, but I'm not sure what that is because I wasn't given that option. Now I have 300 pound machine that I will need to repair with my own money even though it is under warranty. Don't buy ANYTHING from Northern Tool unless you can carry it back for repair. Bogus warranty.
Desired outcome: Fix without returning 300 pound machine
I was put on hold for 28.43 min.
I was put on hold that I had time to drive to the store and look for what I was looking for and the whole time I was on hold I waited in line still on hold when I finally got to a register mind you they where not busy at this time at this time I hung up the phone and asked for a superviser he came asked me what the problem was and I told him... He then asked if he could help me find the part.. I told him to late as I had already looked thru the store and did not find as I was still on hold... I then told him he sucked as a superviser and needed better control at that store... The store was 3970 sw 3rd st ocala fl 34474 this happend on tuesday feb 22 2022 at 10 am... Desired outcome: have that supervisr retrained to better run a store
Houma,La Store
My name is Michelle I was in the Houma store Sunday Feb 6 to buy a $500 utility trailer that computer stated they had 4 in stock so we drove almost 2 hrs to get
But the assistant manager said that they where on a shelf where a forklift had to b used and no one in store was certified
Now I’m would think that the manager and assistant manager should b certified for if one isn’t there the other one can do what the manager does and at least someone who is certified to operate a forklift should have been there.
I even ask them if they would be willing to ship it to me and they pay the shipping fee which assistant manager wasn’t interested in doing anything to help us i ask her to call the manger to see what could be done she didnt care one bit.
I have been a assistant manger of tractor supply and we all had to b certified for forklift
I think u should start doing the same if she was telling the truth
This is not a the way to run a business
i even called a number for customer care and they gave me the wrong representative for that area because i sent email to Thomas Madden and it said wrong email

Will go some where else.
Power house pressure washer hose
I purchased a new Power House pressure washer 9 days ago from Northern Tool. The previous North Star pressure washer that I had was over 10 years old and the pump finally went bad. When the first pressure washer went bad, I was over halfway through redoing my fence (standard 2x4 bread basket design). As I worked through washing the fence, I would drape the...
