I am writing to urge both state leaders and members of Congress to address the ongoing issues that your constituents have endured for years under #PECO ’s mismanagement. As residents of this state and citizens of this nation, we deserve better. Reviews on ConsumerAffairs for PECO Energy Company (https://www.consumeraffairs.com/.../peco-energy-company.html) highlight a disturbing pattern of customer neglect and systemic inefficiency. With the majority of reviews rating PECO at one star, customers cite poor customer service, confusing billing practices, and an unreliable online payment platform. Long wait times, unhelpful representatives, and unresolved issues are recurring themes, leaving customers feeling ignored and trapped by a company that operates as a monopoly.
Despite these glaring issues, PECO continues to push for nearly annual rate increases, which are seriously considered during public meetings and hearings chaired by Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Chairman Stephen M. DeFrank.
It’s infuriating that the commission continues to approve these rate hikes, while PECO continues to fail to address its systemic problems — even after past lawsuits. This demonstrates that any penalties or punishments imposed have been insufficient and have clearly failed to deliver the necessary message of accountability and change. More so, we are told the commission can do nothing about the problems we are dealing with. If thats the case, why do we have the commission? get rid of it and stop wasting our tax dollars. Billing remains opaque, unexpected charges persist, and the online payment system continues to fail, all while customers are forced to pay more for worsening service.
This past year, PECO has named Dave Velazquez its next President and Chief Executive Officer, as Mike Innocenzo has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Exelon.
This is outrageous, given the company's once stellar reputation has completely degraded under his leadership, and its customers only think of it with distain and disgust. It seems anymore that CEOs are getting rewarded for abusing customers and turning once applauded corporations into nothing but trash in the eyes of the public. Enough is enough. If meaningful changes aren’t implemented soon, it may be necessary to escalate these concerns to the federal government for oversight. Such a step would not only be embarrassing for PECO but also for the state leadership that allowed this situation to persist unchecked. If the federal government can do nothing then sadly with the rising cost of living in Pennsylvania, the exorbitant housing and rental prices, and the state allowing utilities like PECO to continue unchecked, residents are reaching a breaking point.
Don’t be surprised if there’s a mass exodus of people — many who once took great pride in this state and never imagined leaving — seeking relief and fairness elsewhere. The state’s inaction is driving away those who have long called Pennsylvania home.
Sincerely,
A PA PECO customer
