grooming horror story!
I took my 5 lb Yorkiepoo, Tyke to the Petsmart groomer. About an hour later I got a phone call saying that Tyke was taken to the Vet inside the store. The manager explained that he was "knicked" with the clippers behind the ear. We rushed to the store where they wouldn't let us see Tyke. We waited for awhile until the manger came out n explained that Tyke was cut on the back of the neck... A little while later the doctor came out and explained that Tyke had a cut on the back of his neck larger than a quarter! They had to put him to sleep and shove a tube down his throat and attempt to stitch a circle closed. Now were waiting. And wondering how do you cut a hole the size of a quater with a gaurd on clippers?! Do NOT use PETSMART groomers!

horrible product and service
I bought a food at PetsMart in Orland Hills 3 weeks ago that had expired 5 month prior (Didnt think I had to check the expiration date) and fed it to my dog for 2 weeks before I realized it was infested with bugs that were burrowing in the food pellets! I called the store who told me to load the 34pd bag of bugs into my car and bring it back so they can swap it out for another bag then called the corporate office and never recieved a call back in the 3-5 business days as explained was protocol. No one ever asked how the dog was... one woman had the nerve to say "If the dog dies, call us so we can note the file"! Yeah, THAT HAPPENED! I have yet to get a call from them even though I have called them 5 times now!

I can't believe i finding BUGS in my Dog treats, I have the bag of Authority Gain Free Sweet Potato Fries here the bar code # AU-14-PIC7 the expiration date 1523E and the BUGS still in the bag. This is horrible, this bag was of the Sweet Potato Fries..I'm trying to upload the pictures, I not only returning the bag of Authority Grain Free but not Bugs Free. Pet Smart going to hear about this. this should never haqppen not to mention its not a cheap product. and to see that this has happen before and Petsmart is still selling this product, I'll be calling till i reach someone on this issues...
I know this is an old post but i just returned a bag of Authority Grain Free Chicken that had bugs in it! Didn't notice it on the dogs food in the bowl but on the scoop I used. Poured some out and there they were... fed the food about 10 days prior. Expiration date was a year out.
Disappointed!
I think you are lying and just want some compensation. Petsmart is nothing but a bunch of brown nosers. You sound like a gold digger. Picking the wrong place to do it no doubt. Most are on to you with this kind of stuff. Move along. Go slip on a floor or stage a car accident... thats the money you want. lol. And no do not work for petsmart... just see through you. Simply pathetic. And your dog did not die from eating expired food. Did you not see bugs while putting it in the dogs bowl? Come on... Why be such a loser? And whats even worse is people such as the dumb dumb who commented before. Come on... if it sounds fishy... usually is!
That's horrible. I'm with you on loading a bag of bugs into my car...NEVER. I wouldn't think they would want the bag in their store to infest other food. They should have told you to bring in the part of the bag with the expiration date on it as well as the UPC code. That should have been enough. If I was the manager that would have been.
Keep calling. Keep the names, dates and times every time you do.
dog
My dog is a shnug, a small to medium size dog, still a puppy, 9 months old, not hard to groom but I still like to take him to get it professionaly done, I have taken him two times before this to my local petsmart which when I say local I mean a half hour away from me! His apointment was 12:30 in the afternoon, since I dont live fairly close to them I choose not to waste the gas and stay around the area and wait. I got there around 12:15 and checked him in and they told me it would be about 4 hours. No problem. I left and waited and waited for them to call me to tell me my puppy was done getting groomed. Around 4:00 pm I get worried and went back, I asked where my dog is and they tell me he is not even there! They check and yes he was there, sitting in a damn cage for over 4 hours because at that time it was on 4:30. Not only was my dog not groomed but they tried to give me an excuse of a hose being in front of the cage? (I never cage my dog for any reason) I dont understand how a dog goes unseen for that long. I was told someone tried to call me, but that was a lie because I recieved no call. The woman who checked me in was also still there when I was leaving, you would think that she would have noticed as well when they were saying he was a no show, or when they were supposivly trying to contact me, or even maybe told the woman who was actually a groomer that her 12:30 had arrived! But no. The manager came and apologized and offered a free groom the following day, which is another half hour there and back but the wait for him again! I feel like that is no were near enough owed to me. I am highly pissed. I do not recomend anyone to take there dog there again without assuring they know your damn dog is there!

service people are not smart
I tried to buy some fish at Petsmart Surrey BC, Canada. I have a gift card given to me by my sister last Christmas. Thought I will buy and add fish to my community tank collection.
At the store, told this saleslady to catch fish in the CORY tank without marks and medium to large size. She just netted what she can catch and told me they are fast and its hard to catch what I would like buy, and I should just take what she caught. She caught random fish, some ugly, with marks, small and thin and one is looking like at the bottom of hierarchy/sick. Told her I am an aquarist I cannot accept what she likes me to own eh. They will be in my fish tank nice and pretty that I wish to admire everyday when feeding them. I guess she did know the difference between fish keeper and aquarist or this lady has no knowledge in fish keeping either. (Not all fish are the same to a hobbyist). Told her I am in fish hobby for 15 years and I can help her catch the fish if she has no patience. =) Called the manager, manager seems to have the same stand of no choices. I guess they can only sell fish to the little kids but not to us serious hobbyists. I walked away.
AMEN! I used to work at Petsmart for a number of years... Quit due to a new manager harassment issue. I loved working there ONLY because of the care for the animals/fish and the customer interaction. Petsmart is corrupted, and it is like any other big greedy corporation, which is sad. They could be making a lot more money if they paid more attention to what needed to be fixed and fixed them, not to mention actually hiring competent employees that want to work. When I first started the job, I knew little to none about aquatics (I have cats). Every day I would learn and know more pet care knowledge (including fish) not by the help of the store, but because (1) I love animals and (2) I love helping people. My extensive knowledge got me loyal customers, which management and my coworkers couldn't handle and got jealous (there was always petty high school drama going on during store hours... I just kept my nose out of it and cleaned!). I got angry that my coworkers would tell/convince the customers wrong advice about any pet, so I would make sure to note it in my mind and help that person later that day or next time. I hated the idea of my loyal customers trusting my coworkers, who would tell them wrong information intentionally or because they were too lazy to look it up themselves, so by default, lump me in with them for bad service.
My main objective at Petsmart was to give the pets in-store (and out) the best care I could possibly provide without getting into legal trouble, and to educate/learn/grow with customers with best possible pet care info I can give them thus far in my reading and research. Unfortunately, my objective didn't align with Petsmart Co., and I couldn't take it anymore. My heart does break a little, knowing that I left all of the innocent animals and customers in the care of those coworkers. Sigh. Such is life.
Without a doubt, this is absolutely true about many Petsmart employees who work in the petcare department: they are absolutely useless. I worked at Petsmart for a little over a year. I applied and was hired on as a cashier. Then, I show up for my second day of work, and they shove me into the petcare department. I received only enough training so that I knew how to open and close the store. They left me completely on my own when it came to people's inquiries about the animals they wanted to buy. I was always so frustrated, because I just did not know enough - but the department was understaffed, and I was almost always left on my own in the department. I wanted to answer people's questions throughly, I wanted to be helpful; I read extensively on the animals we housed, but, at the end of the day, I never knew enough to really help people. I'm sure that their are Petsmart employees who really do know a lot about certain animals. Hell, I'm the proud owner of four cats, and it was easy for me to answer those questions. But about the small animals, reptiles, and fish? Forget it, I was almost completely useless.
That being said, it's ridiculous that she would not catch the fish you wanted. It's easy to tell when a fish is sickly, and it's absolutely RIDICULOUS that she would even try to sell you less than what you wanted. I always tried my best to catch the fish the customer wanted, just like I always tried my best to answer the questions that were given to me (even though most of the time it just ended in my saying "I'm sorry, I really just don't know. You're better off going ANYPLACE ELSE.") The thing is, this company, these employees, the managers, all of them - they don't care about the animals. They really don't. They are only in it for the money. Which would be fine, that's why most people are get jobs. However, it's not okay when little lives are at stake.
Let me just take this opportunity to explain why you just shouldn't waste your money on Petsmart. As aforementioned, most of the employees know absolutely nothing about the animals that are being sold. Furthermore, I'm sure some of you have seen the controversy PETA brought to light about various Petsmart animal suppliers - the way they treat their "stock", their products - they don't care that they're little lives. And maybe most people don't like to think of a rat as a little life, and that's fine. That's your opinion. However, you're buying from a company that would have you think they do. It's the most disgustingly backward place.
The fish come in stressed to the max. They're handled horribly. Petsmart would like you to believe that it's "higher class" than it's big competitor Walmart - whatajoke, they're both as corrupt and there fish are handled exactly the same way. Some bags of fish would come in where 6 of the 7 fish would be dead. And what did they do? They didn't isolate the one fish that was living, guys - they threw it in the tank with the other fish. And that was sold to someone, if it didn't die within the hour. And what might that fish do to your fish? If you don't care about the "little life" argument, imagine taking home a new fish to your highly developed aquarium, the one that's taken many months and many dollars to sustain. Now imagine that fish completely messes up the aquarium you have - screwing with the water and killing many of your other fish. How much money are you out now? If you're not a big animal rights person, which I can't say that I am, at least you can care about your money. Those fish come in costing the company at max a dollar, maybe two, most of them come in as cents - they charge so much more than that, for fish that, in all honestly, will be lucky if they last.
And, finally, let's just talk about the treatment of sick animals. Take them back to Banfield, who could care less about your animals, your pets - you know, the kind of pet that's more likely to be a larger investment, another member of the family, your dogs or cars. They look over the poor sick thing, then put it back in a room where it's prescribed medicine is left in the hands of who? You guessed it! Me, the hired cashier. And lemme tell you, trying to get a Robo hamster to drink from a hypodermic needle is a feat of strength. These animals that are sick, they get sick because of lack of care, or they came in that way - because the suppliers are deplorable. It's ridiculous. Petsmart may have good deals on other items; however, as long as they sell these small animals, they're in the wrong. I would encourage you to not waste your time in a Petsmart. If you're really deadset on adding a pet into your family, I would encourage you to go to a breeder. And if you really don't want to seek out a guinea pig breeder, then I would encourage you to just jump for it and get a dog or a cat.
That being said, I can't speak for the cats or dogs housed in different Petsmarts. They are handled by adoption/rescue groups from your area. Look into the adoption group if you're concerned, but I would say that, for the most part, they should be a little more caring than the employees at any Petsmart. However, that may not be true. In short, if you're thinking of adding a pet to your family, really really research it on your own. Try to go to a speciality shop that'll know more about the animals. You can't rely on the hired cashier who's getting her B.A. in English to answer the questions you'll have. Just take charge of that decision, and don't let these people swindle you out of your hard earned dollar. Overall, use Petsmart for what you think is a good deal (I would argue that everything they sell is extremely overpriced - and thebrands special to Petsmart [Grreat Choice, ToyShoppe, Whisker City, etc.] usually sell such cheaply made, shoddy merchandise that it's not even worth the lower price. The food is unhealthy, and the toys/other items will break within days.
All in all, I just cannot stress it enough. Don't waste your time with this company. Look for better options - I promise they are out there. And with how bad the Petsmart option is, it shouldn't be difficult to find one.
financial fraud
Keep your receipts if you use your debit card for proof! I made a $49.15 purchase and paid with my debit card. Wrote the transaction down in my ledger, then threw away the receipt. Days later I check my acct online and see that the transaction was for $59.15.
Maybe her drawer was over $10 for the night? Maybe she then had beer money for the night? I don't know. All I DO know is that $10 was stolen from me by Petsmart.

Not just that but they have so called trainers that offer to sell the AKC CGC and Star Puppy certification for a fee and you do not have to attend any classes or evaluations. I saw one person buy it and they did not even have a dog with them. Not just that but if you do not pay the trainer you end up attending the classes and then after being told your dog passed you are told that your dog is not old enough for the certification and that you lose your money and will have to come back when the dog is old enough. When I threatened to report her she said she would fix me. Two days later I am accused of my dog causing a 2 inch deep wound on another dog that was treated two days later because it had just started bleeding.
What the heck? Anyone with 1/2 a brain knows that if there is a puncture of 2 inched in depth made to a dog it is going to be favoring that area, bleeding heavily, yelping and showing all sorts of signs within seconds not two days later. And the thing is there was no report of any dogs attacking or getting attacked at the store or to animal control. Watch out when you deal with Petsmart in Naples Florida as they are as crooked as they come and are very fraudulent!
our yorkie was hurt by the groomer
We brought our Yorkie over at Petsmart for grooming yesterday morning. The negligent untrained groomer's name is Linda. Our appointment was at around 10:00 am. After a couple of hours we received a call from this groomer stating that our Yorkie will be ready in about an hour. At around 12:45 pm we picked up the dog, Linda did not disclosed the fact the she cut and hurt the dog somewhere around his right leg. Later that day, we noticed that the dog is licking something by his leg; and so we looked and saw the cut. We contacted Petsmart immediately, unfortunately they are already closed at 6:00 pm. The following day, our veterinarian told us that he needed stitches because the cut was deep. We contacted Petsmart again and reported the incident to a certain Michael who is supposed to be the acting manager at the time. At this time, our vet will send them the prognosis report and Petsmart will have to pay!. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS TO THIS STORE. THEIR STAFF IS NOT PROPERLY TRAINED. THEY WILL HURT THEM!

dont take yoru dog here
i have seen
my poor little 6lb maltese got four stitches, a cut on the ear and razor burn/rash as a result of an unexperienced petsmart groomer...that was the worst call i have ever received to tell me that the blade got cought in my dogs skin and that he has to be sedated and get stitches. :( it was a huge cut/whole, 2cm (which is about an ich) and very deep...my poor little guy is on meds for weeks anibacterial and pain meds.. i will always make sure a very experiened groomer is going to take care of my little baby from now on...wish there was lawyers for these kinds of things, it breaks my heart that this happened (never had any cuts like this in the past 4 yrs, other than an ear infection) my dog will be terrified next time he needs a cut and i am so stressed out over this, i cant eat or sleep i just want to make sure my baby will be ok...i would attatch a photo but its too groosome
Your dog is probably a wiggle worm. Dog groomers don't become groomers because we like to hurt dogs. If your dog was accidentally cut, that's terrible, but it's nearly impossible for a groomer to go through their whole career without cutting a single dog. Petsmart has windows so you can see what we do with your dog the entire time, privately owned grooming salons do not. They can hit your dog all they want to and you would never know. When a dog is acting up on a table at petsmart, we have to be patient and do the best we can.
SP- there is several powder products that pet groomers keep on hand that will stop bleeding on even some deep wounds for several hours, its supposed to be an aid to the animal until they can be seen by a vet. Just letting you know.
PetsMart groomers all around suck. Why? Well I worked at an animal hospital for many years and we shared our space with a professional groomer. She explained to me that PetsMart and other chain pet stores employ groomers with little to no experience and simple basic training because any highly trained and certified groomer knows they can make way more money working on their own. PetsMart pays their groomers on average less then $10 an hour and a professional groomer working for themselves can make several hundred dollars a day. Its worth the extra $20-$30 extra to take your pet to a professional groomer who can provide you with references.
treated unfairly
I have been working at petsmart for almost 8 months now. I love my job, I'm a groomer and ever since I started working here I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my career. I just recently moved to California less than a year ago and my fiance and I share one car. Petsmart knows about this, and knows that transportation to another store is impossible for me. The reason it works now is because my fiance works across the street and we swap the car back and forth on our lunch breaks.
Right now I am in field training and it is slow in our store right now. There are not enough dogs for us 14 groomers. I understand this.
Yesterday I got a call, not from my manager, but from a fellow groomer, saying "did you know starting Monday you are being transfered to the Fairway store for 2 weeks?" Well I didn't know this... they never told me, never asked me if this was possible for me. I was really upset and stressing out because this other store is 20 miles away. Immediately I called my Manager and asked him about it, and sure enough it was true. I told him nicely that there was no way with my transportation that I would be able to do this, and his reply was "Its not optional, if you can get a ride here, you can get a ride there, its not that much further" I know they knew I wouldn't be able to do this, even when I went to grooming academy I had to go to the one that was farthest away so I could have a hotel and a ride from another student because I couldn't work out the transportation to the Fairway Store.
I feel hurt about this, I don't have a choice but to go... my faince has to walk back and forth to work for 2 weeks because if I say no I'm fired. I love my job but half of me just wants to quit and find somewhere else to groom dogs. I didn't know a company could be so inconsiderate to an employee who would do anything for them.

There are plenty of other grooming facilities you can groom at there are numerous vet offices, grooming facilities, pet stores, that offer grooming. If you are unhappy with the transfer start looking for another job elsewhere. You now have experience under your belt, look for another local grooming facility closer to home. Good luck! I live in Orange County, and enjoy working with animals too. Hopefully I will be able to come up with the funds to go to grooming school too. Good luck girl, that sucks. My boyfriend and I also share a car, buluckily, he works locally. Did you check out the bus schedules, or the train? Hope it all turns out well for you.
dog's eye
I took my 4 mo chipoo (Dog) to petsmart for her 2nd grooming and the lady advised my dog was vicious and she had bitten her, which was crazy, but she said she had to put my dog in a cage because her eyes was bloodshot and she needed to calm down, so I asked her what caused her to bite her and she said the blowdryer scared her, which I advised the lady when I came in that she was afraid of loud noises! Any way that night I noticed her right eye was squinted and draining, in the middle of the night I woke up and her eye was crusted over completely and she couldnt see. So I wet it with a wash cloth. And called petsmart the next morning and spoke with the manager and she said it was possible that the dryer burnt her eye and she told me to bring her bye to the vet in petsmart free of charge to check it out. So I spoke with the vet and they told me to put saline in her eye, so I did it and it got better the next morning (Thank god!) no way I will take her back there for nothing. Which my dog probaly bit the lady because she probaly poked her eye!

When I see a little, precious, perfect, can do no wrong, angel, designer dog come in and its' "Mommy" keeps coddling it and telling it "Oh Precious, it will be ok! I will be back soon! My POOR BABY!", I immediately know what I am in for. And it ain't good! LOL Some owners are very neurotic and pass that right on to the dog. I wouldn't be a groom mgr or in animal work my entire life if I didn't love them. (The dogs, not the owners!) The OP needs to get that dog in training asap and make everyone's life better- including the dog!
Weird. It posted comment to another complaint. Anywaaay,
I was a dog groomer for six years. "Designer" dog breeds (like your.. chi-poo..) along with the breeds they're made up of, are notorious for having a TERRIBLE attitude towards grooming. I actually have nerve damage in my hand from a chi-poo. It doesn't matter how SWEET AND DARLING AND WONDERFUL they are at home. If they're out of their element, and you haven't trained them how to handle scary situations, they could very well bite and it wouldn't be the dog's fault, it wouldn't be the groomer's fault.. it would be YOUR fault for not training your dog appropriately, which is your civic duty as a pet owner.
Also, we can't properly groom your dog if we can't dry it. The hair has to lay in a specific manner for us to be able to cut it accurately, ESPECIALLY for any kind of coarse-haired breed like a poodle or a poodle mix. And this is only the dog's second grooming? You know what? Until you become a groomer and spend ALL DAY trying to train a misbehaved puppy to calm down long enough to make them look perfect and precious and not bite your fingers off, maybe you should cut the groomer a break. Think about how hard it would be for YOU to try to hold down a feisty dog, make them look immaculate, keep your hands safe, but still be able to scissor around their eyes because their "mommy" just "looooves to keep it curly around the face."
I've had an adorable little poodle pup that I spent six hours on, giving constant breaks, treating it like it was my own puppy, and the little booger FLIPPED around as I was finishing trimming up around its back paws, ripped my finger open (needing eight stitches) and managed to stab itself in the eye. Those things just happen sometimes, no matter how careful and attentive the groomer is.
I've known dozens of owners like you and it's sad everytime. It's also frustrating because you're dooming your dog to a life of not dealing with groomers well. Not only that, you're also dooming yourself and every groomer to an unpleasant experience with you and your animal. If you can't train it, give it to someone who can.
That's just silly. You're confused. Yes, they're trying to make money. That's their whole thing. The fact is, yes, models and actresses do have to pay money to get farther. It's an investment. A set of headshots and a set of bodyshots does not a portfolio make. And no one, NO ONE, is going to pick you off the street and say, "Oh, you're just PERFECT for being a supermodel!" Supermodels bust their ### to get where they are.
dog abused & injured - petsmart groomer
Pet injured at the hands of petsmart groomer
I have a 2.5 year old, small, 10 pound chihuahua named maverick. He is sweet natured, has been thru obedience training, and is great with kids and other dogs. on november 9, 2010, I took him to the petsmart groomer perfectly happy... When I picked him up he wasn't himself and just looked tired. I figured it was normal and took him home. The next morning, my poor little dog was in soooo much pain! He could not sit or lay down, could not use the bathroom, was lethargic, didn't want to go for a walk or move at all... So I immediately took him to the vet! vet did fecal, urine and blood sample tests. The vet found a small amount if blood in his feces but concluded that he hadn't eaten anything bad and didn't have any toxins in his body rather his condition was the result of someone roughly handling him and his nails being cut too short which causes pain.
Today I found out that the groomer let my dog fall off the table, held him down aggressively, and even muzzled him! Maverick is obedient, loves people, and other dogs and is very easy going... So I have no clue why a petsmart groomer would do this to him : (. also on his "report card" the groomer wrote "mav did great!" lie of the year! Having to forcefully restrain him hard enough to leave bone bruises on his hips and severe muscular pain and use a muzzle on a little 10 pound dog does not equal "mav did great!"
So far, I talked to the manager of the store and he didn't seem to care too much about the abuse my pet clearly suffered : (. I want more than a "sorry that happened, wont happen again" from petsmart! The vet gave maverick a shot for the rear body pain he has around his hips, on his low back & spine, as well as muscle relaxers, and anti-inflammatory pills.
What else should I do? *I feel like there needs to be an investigation as to what that groomer did & her dog handling capabilities so it doesn't happen again! I also think they should at least refund his grooming and pay his vet bills. I would also like a letter of apology! I know that sounds childish, but I think a letter of apology written to maverick (Or some other compensation like a dog food/toy basket for him or a fruit basket for me) from the grooming salon, the general manager, and petsmart in general would make them take ownership for what has happened and perhaps develop better training or enforce adequate supervision so this doesn't happen again! I would hate to see or hear about any other dogs having to go thru as much pain as my little maverick is in right now. Although my vet told me that here lately she has been getting more cases of sick and injured dogs after petsmart grooming. this has to change!
Any suggestions as to what I should do next will be greatly appreciated.
-jay
Supadcy- Good question. I know he was handled aggressively based on what the vetinarian told me in regards to the bone bruises & deep muscular aches. I did some investigating myself and found out about him falling off the table and being muzzled. That info came from a friend of mines whose Roomate works at that petsmart where the incident happened. I understand it's 3rd party info, but why would someone make that up?
HelpNu- not neccassarily food... I just want something more from Petsmart that requires effort on their part to say sorry and this won't happen again.
Slynns - thank you for your suggestions! I am definitely not taking my dog to be groomed there ever again. It's not that i want petsmart food for my dog, it was just one of the the only things tangible I could think of for them to do to something in apology. I guess I just want them to take ownership and say they are sorry.
If the dog was roughly handled I would demand that Petsmart compensate you for the vet bill. If your dog is snippy, there are easy ways to restrain the dog without injuring him. Threaten to take them to small claims court, and I am sure the manager will change his tune real fast. The only thing you can do is warn your fellow dog lovers about the treatment your dog received at this Petsmart. If the manager isn't taking your concerns seriously than it is obvious he doesn't care.
What I don't understand is why you would want food for your dog, or anything else from this Petsmart if they injured your dog. Find another place to get your dog groomed at that will treat your dog with the gentleness he deserves.
groomer hurt my dog
I just had my dog hurt by Petsmart groomers. He came out limping when I picked him up. I gave it a day to make sure it wasn't him just being sore from the nail clipping, but he has been limping for 5 days now. They did pay for a vet bill to put him on painkillers and I fully expect them to pay for the xrays that we are going to have to have done. However, I have yet to hear an apology from the groomer and the MOD that came out to pay for the vet visit was pretty rude towards me. HELLO! This is my "child" that you have hurt! Its painful for him and heart-breaking for me.
I am very disappointed in how all of this has been handled by Petsmart. I was a big fan.
fail to take care of animals
I placed my dog, Blue, in the care of one of your pet hotels in July 2010. When I returned, his * was bright red, as though it had been burned by something. I took him to my vet for treatment; that visit cost me $115.05.
After several unsuccessful attempts to reach the hotel manager at Store #1168, I called the PetSmart "800" number to complain about my dog's condition and the difficulty in reaching the local store. I was told to take my vet bill to the local store (#1168) and I would be reimbursed.
Since I was very upset and wanted my dog to be well, I did not deliver the vet bill to the local store (#1168) until 4AUG2010. I have yet to hear from the local store or your corporate office regarding my reimbursement.
Therefore, I want the $399.70 I paid for the local store's (#1168) abuse of my dog and the vet bill amount of $115.05, totaling $514.75. Since I am in sales and rely on customer satsfaction to keep me in the top of my field, I fail to understand how your company could treat the mistreatment of a person's pet (family) so cavalier.
This is not funny, nor fun for me. My dog was in obvious pain for over 3 weeks after staying at one of your pet hotels in store #1168. The hotel manager failed to take care of my dog and return him in good health. She failed to have the common decency to pick up the phone and call me — after the fact. She did, however, attempt to remove blame from herself, when I returned to give her the vet bill. That simply added insult to the injury — very insulting!
Please have someone contact me immediately to inform me how and when you plan to resolve this matter. Remember, the incident took place in July; it is now October!
fish sales
I watched the store employee handling the fish roughly both in the tank and out, stirring the tank with the net, then draining the water out of the net onto the floor to check the color of the danios, just really being rough with these tiny fish, then pushing them out of the net into the water box. 1/2 of these died within 24 hours. This is not the first time I've noticed this with the young employees. I called to complain to the store manager — he kept interrupting and insisting that it was my tank conditions. I just finished my complaint and said goodbye, then e-mailed the company website. No more fish or 40 lb bags of dog food for my Lab at Petsmart.
bad fish
I have recently bought some fish from the petsmart on truxel and have had 3 fish die in two days from petsmart, in which I have fish in my tank that have been there for 3-5 years and they are fine. I didnt buy them from petsmart. I am very dissapointed in petsmart. The last time I went there to buy fish the employee was putting his hand in the tank to mess with the fish and catch frogs. Therefor I will not be buying anymore fish from petsmart. The guy was also rude and told us that he didnt know anything about the fish and that nobody on shift did. They were very un knowledgeable, I have never been this dissatisfied with a store before. I used to spend several hundred dollars there a month on fish dogs and so on but will no longer be going to the petsmart on truxel and probably no petsmart period.
Are you over it yet? Did you spend more in gas to return the dead fish to the store where you bought them then you did on the fish Or, Did you just give them the Old Royal Flush?
Are you over it yet? Hang in there Sunshine You will find in the Game of Life that you will have many more things in life to be dissatisfied & disappointed about & They will All be alot bigger than 3 dead fish.If you can ever figure out where you bought the fish from maybe you can take them back-Unless you already gave them a Royal Funeral down the old Porcelain Throne?Gee, did you ever wonder where that hand was before it went into the fish tank? & Why did you go back & buy fish there after seeing that?
pricing
While in store on 7/26/2010, cashier informed me that while giving me a grooming card with a treat attachd that I could get my new pup of 2 months groomed for $5.99. I thought this was really a great but questionable price and asked her again if that was the price. She again said that would be the price. The next day, I called to set up an appointment and the clerk stated that the price I was given was incorrect and the price would be $10.99. I made the appointment for the next day and when I inquired what the price would be, I was again told another of $15. oo. This was indeed a bait and switch game.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I took my 10 month old female pitbull to get a bath and nails grind down and i was charged $36.99 and they didnt even provide a fragrance free shampoo...I had to purchase my shampoo and they used it on my dog and i thought it was rediculous to still be charged that price...plus for some reason my dog was very sad when we picked her up and she never has been like that at other times that we have taken her there...I got the feeling that they hurt her in some way and this was in, Ventura, Ca petsmart. This was the last time i will EVER take my puppy there!
groomer abuse
I witnessed groomer shoving, yanking, yelling at my Yorkie while grooming her. I complained to the Manager and they did not charge me for the grooming. If she treats dogs this way in open view wonder what she does behind closed doors?

return policy
Company advertises on their web site a no-hassle return policy. Tried to return an item purchased there a few days ago in original package; unopened and they would not give me a refund without a receipt. I purchased with a debit card and most retailers do give refunds if purchased through debit card. No hassle return policy is a joke! They need to state to customers their policy when purchases are made. I told them to keep their store credit as I am never going back there again. Unhelpful store manager who would not help me at all.

I went to return a dog coat on January 24, 2009 that was purchased on December 24th 2008, it was within the 60 day return policy. The cashier, an older lady, glared at me, studied the receipt like it was fake, asked in a rude manner why I wanted to return it. I told her i got the wrong size, I needed a large. She studied the coat and in a loud, demeaning voice said "It IS a large!". I pointed to the tag which indicated it was an extra large. She tried to convince me to get a different coat, but the store did not carry that coat in a smaller size. I told her twice that I just wanted a refund. She frowned and scanned the coat. I saw it ring up as 20.97 (which is what i paid). She punched in something on the register and told me "I can only give you back $14.97, since its on sale now". She glared at me as if challanging me to say something. I would have but there was a line behind me. I took the money and left. NO WHERE on the receipt did it say that even with a receipt, items will be refunded ONLY for CURRENT SALE PRICE. I even checked the website. I understand that they will give you current selling price if you did not have the receipt, but I did! They ripped me off for $6. Is it everyone? OR is because I happen to be hispanic? After asking a couple of hispanic families in the area I got the same response...PetsMart has a icy attitude towards hispanics. Way to go PetsMart of Edmond, Oklahoma.
I've worked in 3 Petsmarts over the course of 10 years, and we do not have the option to sell cans as either a "case price" or separate. The cashier does have to ring in the cans per each upc. They do have the option of entering a quantity on the computer screen instead of scanning the same flavor a bunch of times, but honestly who cares as long as you are being charged correctly?
You prolly bought it cheaper at walmart and trying to return it to Petsmart where its more expensive... easiest trick in the book :P
You should have kept your effing receipt in the first place if you thought you'd have to return it. I'd have to correct you, most places WILL NOT do a return for you PERIOD without a receipt. If you wanna get technical, okay, maybe they might give you store credit. We are only ENTITLED to give you store credit if you bring no receipt. No receipt, NO CASH/DEBIT CARD REFUND. Rules are in place for a reason. Mainly because people try and take advantage of companies, which is the reason behind this policy.
You should've gotten the price you paid unless the policy is different at that store. I work at PetSmart and we have to check the reciept for fakes since it happens a lot, but no usually since you just needed a smaller size. I was originally going to agree with your complaint until you brought up the race card.
Oh quit it! It is not because you are Hispanic. If you had asked to speak to a manager it would have been solved. A lot of times it can only be returned for the current price, but that is usually with out a reciept. If the manager would not help you then you move up the chain of command. You don't accept the money because there is a line if you are not satisfied. You wait and ask for a manager.
ignorant manager
I am writing this complaint because I am not happy about how the store manager treats his employees.
He is rude and just makes people feel like crap. Everybody talks about how they don't want him at the store anymore because he yells at them and is just useless. He doesn't wear his uniform some of the times when he walks around the store. He interrups employees while they are helping customers. He has been rude to a couple of customers where they have actually come up to me and told me that he shouldn't be working in Petsmart because he has a bad attitude.
When someone higher then him comes into the store, he acts very professional, helps customers and is very nice to his employees. Once they are gone he is a totally different person. He swears, and just puts his employees in a bad mood. A number of people have quit because of how he is and they just can't put up with it.
He tells employees to do something and then goes outside for a smoke or talks on his cellphone while his employees are busting their # trying to finish something and he does nothing at all to help, just yell at them when something isn't completed.
I use to love coming to work and working with all the animals and now I dont even want to go to work anymore because I know he is going to be there, and he is just going to make my day miserable. Please do something about this, you would be doing everybody a huge favor and maybe get a manager in that is actually able to be nice to employees and customers.
Thanks so much.

yeah, sorry to tell you this isn't unusual in a store where there's nobody of senior status, like 2nd or 3rd, watching the manager. You may want to consider reporting him to corporate though it may not be feasible if the corp office are dicks.
Is there a district manager you could report to? Before you do anything, ask yourself if you're a great employee in general. Are you late or missing frequently? Any write ups? If so, you could be giving them the final reason to ax you. The better you are, the more you will be listened to.
Human Resources is supposed to nip these things in the bud because even though he's a manager, he's costing the company for hiring over and over again, also opening the company up to hostile workplace or other violations by the labor board if you filed a complaint.
If others feel the same way, consider asking them to join your complaint to HR. If you are worried about losing your job, there are laws that vary state to state that protect you from retaliation when standing up for your workplace environment or stopping abuse. Check out your employee handbook if they give you one, or call corp anonymously and ask about policies, also check out your state dept of labor online for info and options.
Hang in there and don't give in if you like the job. It sucks to work in a hostile environment and in fact, could lead to stress that could make you ill. In that case, you'd file a workers compensation case which is another reason that manager needs to be checked.
Think of this situation as a test of your strength and character. Like you're supposed to learn something going through it. What is it that keeps you in a place silently suffering? Maybe this test is offered to help you grow and gain confidence.
Good Luck to you.

I recently purchased a guinea pig from a Petsmart in Rochester Hills, MI. It was actually about a month ago and nothing for this little guy has gone right. We purchased him on a Saturday, initially the associate that was helping us box him up seemed to care very little for him. She tore him out of his home with little care and simply handed him over. After...

In my opinion, I would never suggest working or using any of Petsmarts services or buying their products. Their treatment of workers in their Colorado stores as well as other stores is in my opinion substandard. I took my [censored]zui to pet smart a month ago, we asked them to get rid of his not so matted hair, they said that it will have to be shaved off to one inch, So I said no problem, I went back and he got totally shaved, he was in total shock and distress, above all he was biting and licking his left leg, when I picked him up he was crying and his body was in the form of the letter C. I took him home and found that he was totally uncomfortable and I called them to find out if he fell or if they did anything to him? They obviously said NO, and claimed that it's stress on his appearance, well week after week he was getting worse with shivers and wobbles, it's obvious that there is something worse going on and I took him to the vet, she asked me if Fluffy fell, I said not to my knowledge and I told her about the way this all started, she said that Fluffy is not well at all, his wobble became paralysis in both hind legs and he had a bluish, purple spine, to make a long story very short, because I cannot continue, I had to put my baby down, he was only 4 years old, the most beautiful dog with such a huge loving joy that he brought into our lives, full of energy and tenderness. Petsmart is a place that should have their washing area open glass to see what is going on and monitored by camera's, we cannot see what is going on back there and they will not allow anyone to go in there either. We should have a policy to protect our family member or members, but before I go there, I will surely let everyone know that, I will never ever go there again. I am better off to go for a course in dog grooming and doing it myself, rather than pay this heartbreaking price. I miss him so much that it hurts every second to see my best friend and baby gone. Shame on you Petsmart, shame on you.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I came close to loosing my own dog as well. In Feb.2010 I took both my dogs in for grooming. I picked them up and everything seemed fine, about 3 days later my small dog looked as if his hair was matting together in places. My husband held the flash light as I raised the hair to look at what was under. It was yellow blisters with infection seeping out. I had never seen anything like this. I took him straight to the vet. hospital and the Dr. there said that it appeared that he had been burned, asked if he had been recently groomed, I told him at PetSmart in Hickory, NC. He said "this looks consistant with a burn". It took me untill around the middle of June 2010 to clear the infection and a lot of money in vet. bills. I took out a law suit against PetSmart and they offered $260. My dog is permanantly scared and has suffered. I think PetSmart customers should be more aware of the abuse (of animals in general) that is occuring at the companys. Word of mouth is the best defence so we all need to speak up about the mulit-million dollar company that comes across as 'professional'. No business is the best defense. http://www.petsmartcruelty.com/investigation_manchester.asp
this is most disturbing. i can not believe the incompetence. but it is everywhere. half these groomers dont care and the other half is stuck between more sit downs with management, complaining about their co-workers handling of the animals and facing losing their own job. i have seen too many bad things and complained so many times i have been labeled a troublemaker. i do not know what to do. i love and need my job, but to hell if i am going to sit around and watch while all this goes down. even if i get fired before i quit...buyer beware.
Yikes. I'm so sorry this happened.
As someone else stated, an open viewing area is quite dangerous. Imagine kids passing and seeing the cute doggy, they then bang on the glass and jerky motion later and Fido is nicked. I just recently had my dog's pictures taken and we did a couple shots out in a public area (Picture People, they have a screen set up out in the lobby type area) and all the kids that passed would bang on the glass screaming for the dog to look at them. One girl went as far as to come in and wave her arms around trying to get my dog to come to her (who happened to be in my arms, had she jumped down to go over she would have broken her leg/s and possibly died), her mom meanwhile standing there smirking thinking it was great fun distracting and bothering my dog. Imagine that happening when a groomer has shears clipping the fur around the eyes, trimming their claws.
It doesn't matter what this websites function is for, everyone understands the simplicity of it - to post complaints. What is relevant here is that YOU choose to object to nearly every complaint posted with the same response in different words: "Disgruntled employee, disgruntled employee, 2 year old kid, disgruntled employee."
The sad thing about it is you KNOW what you're doing, you KNOW you have nothing to back up your claims because you know what the biggest word is that you use?
"Probably."
You should "probably" try doing something productive and even try the human emotion sympathy. Empathy is "probably" way out of your grasp so one step at a time.
I get it though, you're 17. You're 17, bored, with no real-life experience. Your parents need to restrict your internet usage though. One day you'll look back in the old archives of this board and see the way you were and you'll laugh, maybe, but I guarantee you'll be a little embarrassed yourself when some little ### that acts like you used to trolls YOUR complaints 24/7.
We've established you are of working age, if you don't have a job, get one. Your idiotic approach to peoples complaints will change drastically.
Probably? You mean you're making a completely uneducated assumption? Just leave people be. This could be 100% legitimate and probably is. Focus on the real ### posts, like the lady that went to Burger King and refused to turn her car off. You were on the right track with that one.
You're such a [censored] Irish. You think all complaints are from disgruntled employees.

Awww. Poor dog. I hope he's healed up alright. My mom and I took our mini aussies to petsmart to have them shaved, once, and they came out fine. The only thing that bugged me were the stands with the ropes. Dogs can easily hang themselves with those things. All they have to do is step off the edge when the groomer is not looking or get freaked out and try to run off. Perhaps your dog spooked and turned his head when the groomer went to groom his ears. Some dogs can be jumpy, especially if there's a stranger holding something noisy and/or sharp near them. Next time, pleas stay and watch the groomer. You will not only see how the groomer does their job, but you will also make your dog feel more secure. That's what my mom and I did, especially since the littlest aussie was skittish and the larger aussie was getting shaved for the first time.
What kind of guard on a clipper are you talking about?
