first off i have been customer service staff for a while now at this store, i have never called out sick, and have proved my level of loyalty beyond a shadow of doubt as far as i can anything short of reciting the company's beliefs before punching in every day. The customer service team leader is a 27 year old punk who is pissed off because he is constantly being denied promotion but is not being recognized because he puts no effort into his job, he shows up, does a half [censored] job and leaves. The customer service manager is top notch and knows exactly what she's doing and is on her way to another promotion but has an assistant dragging her and the rest of the customer service team down and is lazy, smokes all day, stays in the managers office and shows favoritism to an exclusive number of associates and is used to deliver bad news. The assistant is the scapegoat of the front office management team, but has been a failure since arriving so she more than likely has earned the title of scapegoat since she can't get anything right anyway.
The "oasis" time system was just deployed our store and now to increase productivity the schedule is automatically printed based on business needs, it directs every ones time accordingly. Meaning that, now I look at my schedule and I am now no longer CSS, but a bagger. When I asked the so called "customer service team leader" why, he 'explained', in his condescending tone, because my JCT training wasn't complete on all modules, (even though I was already doing everything in the offices), the system wasn't recognizing me as CSS staff which meant it would have me bagging. Then, in the next breath after I complained a little further, he said, "look if you're working in the office you can do everything else below that, " i said "well why aren't the managers bagging then, i don't see them scheduled to bag."
"Oh well that's cause they're managers", so what, they're in the office, they should be able to anything below that. Plus, I have never been scheduled to bag before, and I've heard him tell other people this thing about JCT before, so why haven't I been scheduled to bag in the past? it doesn't make sense. There are a few people that are cashiers that aren't bagging, so why? then you have people that are full time that are obviously done with all JCT's bagging, so, the JCT theory is obviously bullcrap.
if they think this will increase productivity they are seriously mistaken, cause now they will have too many baggers standing around, which they already have too many baggers standing around!
I am starting to hate this company

Welcome aboard,, first off managers need to pull there weight.. the reason why a person becomes a manager is because publix believes that person is a hard worker who loves publix, are willing to work hard and come up with new ideas to help our publix... thats what they look at.. but somewhere along the lines something happens... new young managers feel like they dont need to do any work, just sit around and tell the workers what to do... then we get those managers who know someone in the higher up and think they can sit down all day and play on the cell phone... also we get them managers who come in with publix without even taking a test at all! acting like they no it all.. one more thing dont forget your a onwer and publix is your company.. thats why you get stock.. if you dont like what is going on,, hit up h. r... good luck buddy..

Its your CSM fault you are not in the office. Your JCT should have been done. It does suck as a manager to have a crappy asst. I also agree with the post on calling HR but be careful they call the store manager and if he/she are buddies with the person you are calling about your screwed

Well, i've seen the same happening at my store, where customer service associates are now joining the front in cashiering, which almost never happened unless the store got too busy and needed more registers open. but now with oasis it's something that's more common.

But since i'm just a bagboy, that's not what ticks me off about oasis. the way I view oasis, is just another way the company is trying to save money with higher productivity while paying less people. nobody has the make the schedules and also you got less workers on the hour so it's more busy.

Now, i'm a good worker, and I try my best to meet the demands of the whole store. I try to bag as fast as I can to meet the demand of so many people in the store, and the store was able to do that before oasis. first day of oasis is hell. when I was working, there were 4 registers open, and there'd only be 2 bag boys. me and another guy. the lines were completely full for each register. how was I to meet that demand? why did they put so few bagboys on a busy sunday? the other bagboy they had to put him on a register that it was so busy. ridiculous how they're trying to cut costs on less workers on the hour. then to top it all on that, oasis is unorganized. there is no cart duty list so the cs associates running the front tell us we go out voluntarily to do carts. everytime I go out taking a customer there's almost no carts for customers and the lot is smothered in carts, I end up cleaning up the whole lot and take a small break from carts, and next time I take out another customer the whole lot is covered up again. this is impossible for two bagboys to do, and even when there is more bagboys, the lot is a mess because nobody takes care of it unless I do. it's just an unorganized mess.

All in all, let humans make the schedule, not a machine because they're just trying to cut costs.

Very understandable,, dont forget now anyone can bag and get carts off lot... we always hear managers, freaking out paging stockers, dept clerks to the front to help bag, still, even with oasis {not working}.. publix has the man power everyday in them stores,, example, managers waste time paging,,, over and over again for help, as they watch a customer bagging his own stuff... they feel that the level theyre in, they dont have to bag... then you see managers walking around looking all pretty on down time... when the lot is loaded with carts or its raining carts rolling in the wind into someones car... johnny on the spot, managers? not... so alex dont forget your not alone we all see this happen... do the best you can.. publix was made by the hard worker.. lazy managers and lazy workers will not get far.. s. a. s

ur dumb, its ur fault that u didnt notice the towals fall off ur cart. ppl rob that place from the min it open till it closes. everyone think they are f***ing kings and queens when they walk in, and can take whatever they want aslong as they rise thier voice to a manager. [censored] happens sometime, welcome to the world!

Publix has been a company that has taken care of its employees making it the biggest private employee own company in the Nation, but now with this new oasis scheduling system is making employees work very long hours with no brake and as a result this could result on employees having circulation problems this could cause a lot of health risk plus there are no set schedules and you never know what your schedule is going to look like next week Publix in a way is trying to push out older women employees that have been there for 10, 15, 30 years, if that employee leaves they could hire somebody getting pay less but if they don't they cover the whole day with full time employees so they don't have to hire a lot of partimers. Solution for publix problem is to hire a second shift and keep the employees with seniority with the better shift, now with all the social networks you are going to hear more of employees not being satisfy with publix since publix is the biggest employee own company they could vote out the people responsible for this oasis, this oasis publix scheduling system is also manipulated by the store managers at store 550 some employees keep a good schedule with set days off this is also not fair for other employees.

Wake up they dont care about you or your ideas... simple as that, old days are over.. your a owner what # they feed you. workers... workers thats all you dumasses are.. sad but true.. g. o. f. you be repaced by someone who has family in the higher up..

I work for Publix too and I can't stand the company. My assistant manager is a dumb ### and he thinks he owns the store. I have a customer service STAFF member that thinks he owns the store also and ironically they are best friends. But all of its is going to end soon because I'm on the phone with Human Resources right now :)

As to the new Oasis system, I can't comment too extensively as I'm going to school (taking 33% more credit hours than considered "full time") in a city 45 minutes away from the Publix I work at, and I have another job that's closer to my house because the gas/mileage on my car is too expensive for me to justify working more than once or twice a month. That being said, there's a reason that I haven't tried to transfer my job to a store closer to my University: I love my Publix. I just had my four year anniversary with Publix, working all sorts of different hours and shifts due to my hectic schedule (up until this past summer, I was working 30-35 hours a week over summers and winter/spring break). Now I'm back down to working once or twice a month, and that's year round.

The reason that I keep this job is because of its future employment potential (after school, and I'm a business major; I plan on working for my dad as a financial planner after school but if for some reason I decide not to, I could quite easily jump up the Publix ladder) and because working there is actually fun. The managers that I work for are very nice and flexible with me, and they pay enough attention to recognize hard work when they see it. For example, the "owner" at my current job, where I'm a manager, not only is reporting me as an Independent Contractor (he pays NO taxes on me, and I get stuck with the rest; in addition to not telling his employees about it: I had to find out from a past manager that this was the case), has "raises" that are pointless because we're based on a bonus system that means that as long as I'm doing the volume of sales I've done since the day I started, meaning that I'm making the same amount per hour as the day I started, secretly doesn't pay us past 2:15am (we close at 2 and have anywhere from 15min to an hour and a half of work to do, depending on how busy the store was), and calls you the next day screaming at you if the store isn't perfect the next day (which is near impossible reliably because some days we have almost nothing to do and some days are GROSSLY understaffed).

Basically, it's a "small" business and he not only treats his employees like crap, but financially screws them while acting like he's doing them favors: "I don't take taxes out of your paycheck because I know you guys need the money, so this lets you get more money and be able to save up for taxes at the end of the year" all while the employees (most of us) work extremely hard for 10 hour shifts (with no breaks) and picking up the slack for other employees (who are his personal friends). Publix, however, recognizes how much effort I put into my job and the mastery I have of it (my last performance evaluation said I "work with a sense of urgency" and I've been called in, as a bagger, to learn and cover a shift (in the same day) for both seafood and deli). Not only do they recognize hard work, but they reward it; I know employees who are available 24/7 but don't work very hard, and as a result get 10-20 hours a week. Over the summer, while I was managing at my current job, I opened my availability with Publix to Sundays nights and Monday mornings exclusively. I was available for a total of 16 hours a week, and I was scheduled for 16 hours a week. I'm not "friends" with any of the managers or team leaders and never hang out with anyone from work after hours, so I'm not getting preferential treatment based on anything but hard work; and I'm always thanked for the amount of work I do and my ability to be a "mini-manager" (I come up to managers, tell them what I've recognized needs to be done, and ask if they'd prefer I do those things or focus on customer service at the moment). They appreciate me and treat me very well, because I'm extremely friendly and an extremely hard worker.

To summarize, Publix is a great company to work for (and I appreciate that even more because of my current job), and the managers (generally) aren't as incompetent as they're made out to be; they recognize and reward good work and great customer service (and who doesn't like getting praised/paid for customer service for having a 20 minute conversation with a customer in front of your manager?) and are very flexible with people who fill these criteria.

Oasis isn't going anywhere anytime soon, alot of money was invested. This is now what Publix wants so have a job or not have a job, your choice.

I have worked as a deli clerk for my publix for the past year and a half, and I used to love it. it was great being able to interact with customers and thus promote sales while building employee-customer realtions to bring people back again. but with this oasis scheduling it has been hell since day 1. our store is very busy, the deli used to be well supplied, staffed, and part timers had reasonable shifts, and full timers had reasonable shifts and breaks. now they make us work 12 or more hours with most of the time only 1 half hour break, which is illegal here in florida. and on other days we only come in for 3 hours, which is a waste of time. the deli is never staffed enough, everyone is quitting publix or transferring to a different department because of it. our sales are going down and complaints have never been higher, now I hate my job. i'm tired of customers always angry and yelling, and nothing being stocked. and they stretch us thinner every month, now there's only 2 people to close the entire deli while helping customers at night, instead of the 4 needed. the older ladies that have been there for 20 years are being killed, and they are just hiring lazy people that don't care. we don't have enough time to train people because we're always slammed with customers angry at us because publix decided it would be great to let a computer put half of the necessary people. and all our manager says is that you're not allowed to talk at all and "work faster". I hate my job now, it landed one of my co-workers who is around 65 years old in the hospital from high blood pressure while she was working a long shift. I plan on quitting in the next few weeks, because it's not worth working 13 hours and dying for 10$ an hour. f*k you publix, thanks a lot. if george jenkins were alive this would still be a great company to work for, he would be ashamed as the greedy a*holes that run it now

No s* I been hearing about this new oasis. really bad from what i'm hearing. with this bullying schedule old timers don't mean #.. but what I don't understand is part time workers are being scheduled one or two 10 hour days and maybe one 5 hour day... I walked into a publix deli yesterday to get fried chicken tenders (8 bucs a pound!) as I waited, and waited as workers seemed to be stressed out with no counter help and other customers waiting, as I waited for 20 minutes, one of the workers said she was sorry for the wait, I asked her, what no help? she said nope no help.. she went on to tell me she had been working since 8 am, I looked at my watch is was 2:35 pm.. I couldn't believe it.. so I told her what no lunch? she told me her lunch was scheduled for 3;15 pm, and her shifted was over 7;30 pm.. then she said she was part time... how does this look to the customers I mean buying boars head meat at 10 dollars a pound or chicken tenders 8 dollars a pound, having to wait then to hear that from a worker who looked to be beat? walmart don't sound as bad to me..
