continuous overcharging
Safeway has serious issues with incorrect prices ringing up at the register, including weekly flyer prices, digital coupons and 'just for u' prices. Though the customer service reps are generally accommodating, I get very tired of having to visit customer service each and every time I shop at Safeway in an attempt to recoup money for the prices I SHOULD have been charged. Also, the problem seems to occur at ALL the Safeway's I visit, as there are several in my area. On my last visit, I was charged $72 for approximately $25 worth of groceries. The time before that, I was charged $70 for approximately $50 worth of groceries. I'd say 90% of the time I'm overcharged for my purchases. It's getting to the point where I won't shop at Safeway anymore, as it's not worth the hassle.
customer service/ abusing customers with poor attitudes in management.
5-1-2017
I seldom do this but I know I should have done this 8 years ago. I moved here 9 years ago after going to the Lincoln City’s Safeway I could not take the rudeness any longer. I now make it a point not to go into the store not even to use the pharmacist (who as I remember is nice). The manager seems to be the worst of them. I heard he had left and was still reluctant because of the problems I still hear about. I am in a lot of clubs or do presentation to a lot of clubs and I hear about problems. Even when I go to the Verizon store next to Safeway I hear tourists coming out of Safeway say they are glad they do not have to shop there. I know a lot of business come from tourists and weekenders who only need to deal with your employees once or occasionally.
Just so you know my experience I was a manager and district manager for Thrifty Drug and a General Manager for Fred Meyer. I always welcomed complaints so I could verify by surprise visits. Every store could use refinement.
Today I decided to try again because I heard the old manager had left. I went there to get a money order and found the same rudeness I had experienced the past. I waited until I remembered the service counter would be open. There was a customer at the counter and he was not being treated very nice but ignored it also made excuse for it. She commented that people never read the signs on the counter though I do not think anyone could miss the four signs on the counter saying please go to the cashiers for you needs. I saw this and asked a Jennifer M if the cashier could sell Money Orders. She said no and was not happy about it. Then I asked if they gave out numbers for getting service I was serious not being rude. She just said no. Then I started to hear all about the problems she had books to do and no help and so on. She said she was hoping that it would be better when you put back in the self- service registers. With the rudeness, I saw in my short stay from overhearing a couple of cashiers while standing waiting this at least would be a way around it.
I finally told Jennifer M that I had heard the manager had left and she told me he left but they brought him back. I was hoping with the new manager the problems in the store would be less. I did notice a lot of new people working there and so I called a couple of people who I know had worked there and one who still does and was told about how they were and are being treated by management. No wonder there is a high turnover in the store.
I am volunteer with lots of community events and clubs in Lincoln City and have heard from more than a few people with the same feelings also how Safeway’s here is not very community minded. Even from a city commissioner or two. They allow Girl Scouts (even from out of town) to sell Girl Scout cookies (I did hear that there is a contract with them so they must) but they do not let the high school the Boy Scouts, Church groups, Cub Scouts to raise money in front of their store I know some go around and go by a close store in the mall. Safeway’s does not participate in the community they want the support from it is good for you they have the tourist’s here.
At some point you help your employees, customers and community and consider this matter. I know how poorly I was treated a long time ago by this manager. I tried again after time and (I thought) the manager leaving and it is still a customer service nightmare which I believe starts in management. I will still drive 26 miles than go back in that store.
expired food
Safeway at 4970 S. Alma School Rd in Chandler Az 85248
I've finally gone to the media since my neighborhood Safeway continues to have issues with expired food. I've had 8 instances in about 1 1/2 years. Twice the issue was baby food expired by a couple months. I've spoken with store management several times and the DM on 3 occasions. Here a list of what I have found to be significantly expired:
2x baby food - yogurt and pouches (months expired)
Roll cookie dough (2 months expired)
Turkey jerky (6 months expired)
High end cheeses (3 months expired)
Salsa (1 year expired!)
10 packages of turkey lunch meet (weeks expired)
Cap'n Crunch cereal (3 month expired)
My observation is that no one overly cares. Inventory management is grocery 101 and this store continues to fail. I cannot trust the food. I drive well out of my way to shop at Fry's or Basha's and have never found expired products in their stores.
store was a disaster manager rude and accusatory!
I went to Safeway today in North Seattle on 15th Street. When I arrived there were no carts available. The store was not busy and the carts were all in the parking lot. The produce section looked like a disaster area. The bagged salad I wanted, 2/3rds were already expired or expired the next day and ALL WERE FULL PRICED. you didn't have 2 other items I needed. After I paid, I asked for the manager. After 2 calls for him by staff, someone had to go get him. I introduced myself and went into all the problems. He offered no explanation, no empathy, no nothing. After getting nowhere, I started to walk away and told him I'd contact corporate, since he didn't seem to care. He yelled after me, "Be sure to tell them you put your hand in my face!" In a manner than was incindiary and provacative, attempting to get me to argue with him, while I'm 25 feet away. I'm not sure if you have video there, but I certainly didn't put my hand anywhere near his face, as I was standing at least 2 feet away when we spoke. This store is an absolute mess, filthy, and your staff degrading. You should be ashamed that you have staff that are disrespectful and don't care at all about how their store is presented. I'm appalled and absolutely disgusted!
being over charged all the time
I have been a customer at Safeway for well over 30 years. In the last 6 months I have been over charged repeatedly.
Yesterday I went to Safeway, bought my groceries. When I got home I went over my receipt. I bought 1 cucumber. I was charged for 13 cucumbers! I did go back to get my money back. The lady there did give me my money, but she told me, "No biggie, it happens all the time. It is our new system."
Seriously?! I am disabled and on a fixed low income. And no, I don't get food stamps, so money is seriously tight. I can only afford 1 tank of gas each month. Having to go back to the store each time costs me gas money, time, and pain. I try to check my receipt before I leave, but when I am in pain all I want to do is get home.
The cucumber was on sale for $1.00. I got charged $13.00. This is unacceptable.
pharmacy
The pharmacist at the store on Mexico and Colorado Blvd. in Glendale CO refused to wait on me and then when I told him to get the Manager 5 people showed up and threatened to call the police on me and that I needed to go to King Soopers. I've been shopping weekly at this store for 4 years and now they are acting like I tried to hold them up or something. I know they have staffing issues and their store isn't exactly a whole complete store but really they are just getting too rude to the customers. After reading some other complaints on different sites I guess that's the norm. Too bad as one site had 610 complaints. Some even by their own employees. I don't think they're going to last long. King Soopers, Walmart, and even Target are doing better than they are. Do us a favor and go out of business. Your employees will make sure you do. I'm not shopping there or any Safeway again. The other stores are much better.
fuel station 0525
Why is it that I just went shopping in the supermarket and paid for my groceries with a card and went to your gas station to fill up and the attendant asked me cash or card, the price was 2.61 cash and 2.71 card that is a 10 cent difference, when I was in the store shopping and checking out the store did not offer me a cash deal or a card price hike, I know you buy your fuel on the spot market but come on I can go down the street to union 76 and pay 2.61 cash or card same price, I am very unhappy!
groceries
Hello. Today stared out as a nice day. I went for a walk in the late afternoon down Mission Street. I want to walgreens and got some toothpaste and could only get $20 cash back from their machine. So next door was safeway so I got a melon gatorade and $60 cash at Safeway on 3350 mission street SF CA.
I returned in the evening with my purchased items and receipts. I even showed and explained they were purchased and the cashier asked if I wanted to return. I said no I am just showing proof of purchase from earlier.
I paid with card and I even entered my phone number.
This conversation was going while the security guard and another customer was in a heated argument with another customer or assumed thief. I don't know. I tried to avoid the incident by going out the right door but it was locked. So as I was walking out the security guard pushed me and grabs my bad and tells to get out. His eyes where huge like he was on drugs. A black security guard with an accent about 5'6".
I was shocked and scared. I tried to explain but the guy took my receipts ( which is thief ) I purchased all items. There were no transgression or mistakes.
I was assaulted and robed ( receipts ) . When I asked to speak with the manager the cashiers said the guard was the manager. This way about 7pm on 3/16/17. Go back and look at camera footage. I have nothing to hide.
Not only that. The guard grabbed items and placed in my bag. Which was the WORST. A misunderstanding is one thing, But to place items in my bad and take my receipts and accuse me of staling will make anyone not way to shop at your stores.
It took several attempts for the little asian man cashier to admit that I indeed showed him receipts
I got so upset and frustrated. I left and I will never return. I will make a big stink about it ! SHAME ON SAFEWAY. SHAME !
I'm been shopping at safeway fro 20 years but Trader Joe's is nice and they don't assault you and steal from you and make you feel horrible.
I want an apology ASAP !

deli food quality
Hello, I was in the Safeway on 340 E McDowell Road Phoenix, Az and used my food stamps to buy cold chicken out of the deli area (I can't buy hot food in deli with food stamps). As I started to eat the chicken, I found the few pieces I ate to be as hard as jaw breakers candy. So I went to find a manager and found an asst. manager who exchanged my cold chicken for some new hot chicken out of the deli. So the first two pieces of the hot chicken I ate in exchange were okay because they just came out from the hot lights, which left the chicken breading warm and basically soft. But just a short time later when I started to eat the third and last piece of chicken given to me in the exchange, the breading on the piece I was eating was much colder, thus leading it to become much harder to eat than the first two pieces I had just ate. So this made me realize that with this type of batter they were using to bake this chicken with was probably always going to get hard fairly quickly once it got cold. This in turn made me realize I would never buy this cold chicken again in Safeway, while also realizing anybody who tried to eat this "ROCK HARD" deli chicken while cold, could chip a tooth (yes, it was that hard!). So just felt I should say something about this incident by suggesting Safeway check the freshness of their ingredients they use to cook this chicken with (are they buying the batter in bulk style, thus possibly making the ingredients much less fresh after being in storage too long?), or change the recipe because anybody in their right mind would never buy this deli chicken again COLD ever again using their food stamps if they new it would be as hard as "jaw breakers" candy when eating it. Sincerely, John C Woodson
lean cuisine spaghetti with meatballs
One week ago I brought this product at the Pacifica Safeway. I made it for my dinner last night. Within an hour I got violently ill, with symptoms I immediately recognized as food poisoning. This morning, after a terrible night and having had to cancel a court appearance this morning (yes, I'm a lawyer) i checked the box for the sell-by date. To my distress, I saw that it was 4/16, almost a year ago. I didn't keep the receipt so I can't prove that I bought it last week, although we don't keep anything in our freezer that is that old. I'm not planning to sue Safeway - i'm writting this to alert you to do a better job at shelving frozen products so no one else has to have a miserable night like I just had.
catering platters and fried chicken
Yesterday I went to my favorite Safeway store in Bowie, MD to pick up catering platters and fried chicken. The pick up time was supposed to be 11 a.manufacturer. I arrived at 11:10 and asked for the platters. After checking for the platters, the safeway clerk informed me that the fried chicken was ready but the other 2 platters (a sandwich platter and a fruit platter) had been accidentally overlooked on the form. She said I would need to wait for the platters to be made. Oh no, this was not good. My mothers birthday luncheon was starting at noon and I needed to be there and set up when the guests arrived. I was told they needed 30 minuets. I had no choice but to say okay. Thirty minuets turned into 50.
My husband picked up the food and we put the platters on the serving station so at the luncheon. As we did this, I noticed he had been given no condiments (mayo, mustard) for the sandwiches. We were in a rental space and did not have access to condiments which meant the sandwiches were dry.
As I unwrapped the 2 chicken buckets I also saw that the fried chicken was now soft and soggy. What happened to the crispy chicken skin? Then I saw the plastic wrap that he meticulously wrapped around the cardboard bucket. This caused the chicken to sweat and the skin to get soft. This is not how I wanted my fried chicken. They should be told not to do this in the future.
Because of the omission of condiments, the soggy chicken and the inconvenience of standing around waiting for 50 minuets for the platters, I would appreciate some type of compensation be given.
I shop faithfully at Safeway and love the food, service, and great customer service, however this time, someone dropped the ball.

staff
Bancroft Ave San Leandro California. Rude, dirty and that staff should be fired. I boycotted a long time ago. Prejudice. The word is being passed along to boycott this location. Do yourself a favor and close it. Giving your brand name a very bad reputation. I can make it 350 words. Staff roll eyes, talk to each other while checking people out about personal business. Most unprofessional establishment and it draws a bad crowd. They know they won't get cops called on because the staff and obviously manager don't care
signature select/restaurant style fire roasted salsa
I usually stick to few salsas, but bought this one for the size an the price, mistake now I've tried many different brands, but this one is like eating bland spaghetti sauce with a terrible lime can't really taste any other spices the ingredients list, I understand the difference between salsa and restaurant style but it's just terrible it's like dumping a bottle of Ragu over lime n a bowl an eating it with a spoon change it or get rid of it is my advice.
Did they accidentally put spaghetti sauce inside of the jars instead of salsa? Cause that's what it tastes like. Bland spaghetti sauce. And weirdly sweet also? It's pretty terrible. Not like any other salsa I've ever had before. Pretty gross.
Completely disagree, this salsa is wonderful!
Boy... ya dippin' ya chips...in straight up marinara sauce... I have never been so ashamed in my life as to have accidentally served this salsa... at my cinco de mayo party...
Let's start from the beginning... open the jar... and sniff
-I will never forget that sweet aroma of basil, tomato and garlic... that putrid odor that ripped apart the very inner parts of my soul...
- I don't even really have a soul, but if we're going to cross this line, I might as well say that this salsa was sent from satan himself... it would smell of the same bitter aroma of this horrific mesh of garlic tomato and whatever other # we want to pass off as "salsa"...
Point 2
- taste it... open ya mouth... and just taste it... with your tongue. go ahead... give it a lick... apparently you already have, because apparently... this salsa is quote on quote "wonderful".
Would you like me to list all of my reasons why I "completely disagree"?
- it tastes like nothing i've ever tasted before... through all of the rancid meats... rotted cheeses and other soiled goods... nothing compares to this...
-if I was ever given the privilege to drink the sweet nectar from the dark prince.. I would imagine it tastes something like this salsa, but probably with a little hint of celery.
- have you ever walked into a #ing mexican #ing restaurant? have you ever eaten the free chips and salsa? because I have... and I have never complained...
- however this salsa has become the absolute bane of my existence. I paid for this salsa... with my own hard earned $2.38. it was not free! I cannot believe I just pulled out my #ing debit card, swiped it through the machine and called it a day...
...in conclusion... I feel like this was a sarcastic statement...
dispensing fees
I went to safeway pharmacy in leduc ab. To get my usual prescriptions refilled. I have a new benefit plan and provided my card which they entered into the computer. They showed me a printout that stated there was a one time $40 deductible on the first drug and a $3.00 fee for all the others. I returned 2 hrs later to pick up my prescriptions and was handed a bill for over $200. 00 ! Seems their dispensing fee, that i've paid hundreds of times, had more than tripled. They blamed the insurance company of course but it was them that showed me the printout before I ordered them. Basically they told me to take it or leave it, so I left it. After 5 years and thousands of dollars spent at safeway, I will no longer shop there. I have several other options here in town and will take my business elsewhere,
Thanks.

open nature grass fed 1/4 lb angus patties (85/15)
Today, 12/27/16, we purchased a package of the above product from the Safeway Store in the "Brunswick Basin". According to the packaging, the "bar code" label is RD15266 & [protected] - Expiration of Jan 03, 2017. We cooked two patties for hamburgers. While eating a burger I felt something stick me in the tongue. I spit out what was in my mouth and started combing through it. While there was bun, I found a piece of steel wire approximately 1/2" long in amongst the meat material. I have saved wire and packaging and plan to report this to the County Health Department.
general store product and misleading sales
I live in Wilcox, AZ and the only grocery store here is Safeway. We are continually having "bait and switch" issues with the manager about advertised items. We go to buy them, and they either do not have them, or what is listed is different than what he wants the patrons to buy. For example, my husband went to the store because Bud Light was on sale. Coke products were also on sale so he picked up 4-24 pack boxes for me (which was advertised..buy 4/$10) The Bud Light was advertised for $17.99 for a 30-pack. He went to check out and they did not give the sale price for the soda. When he questioned them, they said it was because he also bought beer. What the heck does one have to do with the other? Then they said the advert says "see store for details". Fine, NO WHERE did it say "if you buy this beer, you cannot get the sale price for Coke products." I have more, I bought lamb chops lets say on Wednesday.. I went to cook them on Thursday after being refrigerated, they were GREEN! I was told our store is a "last chance" store, meaning the food is on its way out. BUT, we are paying premiums prices for BAD FOOD! This store needs a clean sweep of management and training for its personal. I have never shopped at such a crappy grocery store before. Its terrible.
bad customer services
On Dec 10th shopping at Safeway store 0982 in San Ramon, I picked 4 packages of Lamb and asked the butcher to cut them in half. A few minutes later the butcher runs to the Lamb shelf location and walked away with a few other packages back into their work station. He comes out a few minutes later to inform me that all the Lamb was spoiled due to pass due date and they had no more. How do we keep meet on the shelf that goes over the past due date? I then asked for 1 lbs and 1/2 of shrimp from their display counter. He weighted, packed it and I left. Got home which is a few minutes from the store, place shrimp in the fridge to cook the next day. When we cleaned the shrimp but the smell was too much for us to stand. I grabbed the shrimp, shells rolled the package and went to the store. Now the worst part. I asked for a manager to complain about my ordeal. Here came manager (Alicia) who after I explained my ordeal, asked me to go to the meat counter and get more shrimp. It turns out it was still the same batch so I asked for frozen shrimp and they gave me a two pound bag. I returned to her and she said. “Oh this is half pound more than you had, so I am going to take $5 off this packed and you can pay the difference” I was so fuming that I did not notice she was charging me a second time which I did pay for the spoiled shrimp as well as the second I bought. No compensation for my troubles, except “I apologize for the inconvenience, good day” This has been her second strike with me. This manager needs training on what customer service is.
Where is the hell is customer service? I usually drop close to $1000.00 dollars a months at this store.
You bet, I am one angry customer and Safeway needs to know what’s happening in there stores.

consistent wrong prices and store will not honor wrong pricing policy.
Safeway Store 2764 consistently rings up the wrong price at the register. This occurs just about every shopping trip to the store. It just happened again today, Friday, Dec.9, 2016, 2:57 PM. Avocado's priced at 4 for 5$, ringed up at register for 1.99$ each. They were not organic. Transaction [protected]; Ref. # [protected]. Safeway personnel do not honor return policy/wrong price policy. In addition, the plaque that informs customers of this policy has been conveniently removed from the guest service area. This plaque is evident at other Safeway Stores including Safeway 2608 and Safeway Store 1351. The young female attending the guest service area has refused to honor wrong price policy on numerous occasions. When asked why they do not have a plaque stating the policy her reply was "I don't know". She has been aware of this issue for over a year. My desirable resolution: there is none. Safeway has lost me as a customer for good. I should not have to check my receipt for errors every time I shop there. To answer my question, if I may, as to why there is no wrong pricing policy plaque glued to the guest service desk, is because the store does not want customers to be savy to this info because the store would consistently be refunding customers 24/7.
pharmacy service
I have had a pricription of various (5) heart medications that are important to get on an auto refill arrangement. The insurance company I have will not fill them early without a doctor's ok so I have them refilled on the requested date. I can't miss a single day without taking them. I could not get the Safeway pharmacy in Pollock Pines or Safeway in Placerville, CA to refill them on a regular basis. I first had the orders at the Placerville store for a year. Even when I had to get them early on times I took vacation with a written doctor's note they would not fill them early. I was tired of the poor customer service So I decided to transfer my prescriptions to the Pollock Pine's pharmacy. I had to ask for a prescription transfer from the Placerville location to the Pollock Pines location 3 times. They never filled them on time so I have changed to the CVS pharmacy. They are excellent!
food products being left out too long that needs to be at a certain temperature according to the food handling regulations
I'm reporting the Safeway on 40th Street Northeast Washington DC 20019 in regards to leaving food products that needs to be stored in a cold refrigerated area and that it has been sitting out for longer than necessary and the food a temperature has dropped
