Automatic Free Trial Renewal - Charged without forwarning -
I registered for a one month free trial period and was surprised to receive an alert from my bank of a charge of 10.99€. There was no forwarding from Scribd that the trial was running out and I would be charged.
I have tried everything to cancel my subscription but couldn't even find a registered Scribd account under any of my email address.
Please cancel my subscription and this payment from now onwards and it possible, refund the money you have been charged to my credit card.
In any case, I herewith formally cancel my subscription and refuse any future charges.
Today's date is April 12 2023
Alert of 10.99 EUR received April 11 2023 at 21.55 CET by Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB)
Desired outcome: Cancel subscription

Double billed for nearly a year - customer service disappeared
Hello, I am so frustrated I have been double billed for nearly a year and I can't get help from your absent customer service.
Your website help: Receive an automated message about how you are too busy growing as a company to help existing customers but will try to get to them within 2 weeks.
2 weeks later, get a reply and start chatting with your customer service agent who takes days to reply to each email back. Then drops off with no resolution. Email after email, no response. Meanwhile getting double billed. Filed another ticket but it has only been 4 days.
So now went to our facebook:
Auto-reply says use the website help section, which doesn't work. Uses gaslighting language: get "FREE" support on your website. Like giving customers support is a gift. Customers PAY you. That is not free.
Facebook page says:
Always open
Replies in minutes
[protected]@scribd.com
All nicely next to each other implying you have great customer service. Your automated messages take minutes and resolve nothing.
So, I emailed [protected]@scribd.com: same auto-reply...getting too rich to have time to help you. hopefully within 2 weeks. Same as the other.
So now I find this complaint website. I see TONS of complaints by other customers who have problems similar to mine. I see you respond to one of them pretending to want to help. You gave them a new link to webform bit.ly/social-support-help that seems like you are finally getting help.
I just used it and it results in the exact same auto email.
Obviously there is an issue with the way you display sign-up or sign-in if so many people are confused and do not remember signing up with you. UI design is intentional. Are you intentionally tricking people to make more money?
If I do not receive real help, then it is time we band together for a class-action lawsuit. I am happy to lead that charge.
Desired outcome: Money back. Help identifying the account that is being double-billed so I can cancel it.

Unauthorised bank charge
I have noticed that my Australian business (a law firm - please contact me for details), that has never used Scribd and has no account with Scribd has been getting charged by Scribd (against the company credit card) every month since September 2021. The fees started at $13.99 and are now $14.99 per month. Over the 19 charges, in total $278.81 AUD has been charged.
Desired outcome: I would like the recurring charge to be cancelled and a full refund of all amounts charged. If this is not resolved, I am minded to report these Scribd charges as a scam or fraud.

This has still not been resolved. I opened a ticket as requested and have heard nothing back from Scribd, which is still debiting my account.

There is a monthly charge approx $17.00 to $18.00 per month being taken from the bank account paying "SCRIBD INC SCRIBD.COM CA"
Mr Smith does not recall subscribing to your website. I would ask if you could check your records and void the subscription.

Thank you in anticipation of your assistance in this matter.

Free period
Dear Sir/Madam, I have opened an account with you some months ago. After downloading three books in digital format (I'm not sure about the number), I requested that the account be closed since I could not find any other books that interested me. Despite this request to close the account for the free period, my bank account has been debited several times. I can prove my honesty. Indeed, I did not download any other books since I was convinced that my request for closure had worked. I am asking you to refund me for the service I did not use.

Scribd
I was charged on my account [protected]@gmail.com x 10 months of subscription fee when I have never subscribed to your service. This is a fraudulent company that charges customers without notifying them at the end of a free trial by avoiding sending them any notification email.
I would like a full refund and delete my credit card information from your website.

Scribd subscription
Hello. On the 9th of January I've filled a complaint to Scribd informing them that someone else was using my account and I asked fot their help. On the 24 of January one of their employees answered my complaint saying that I have been pwned. Therefore, they will need a photo of the credit card I used to pay my subscription and a bank statement showing the transaction. Now, the problem is that I no longer can provide any of the requested information as I do not longer have that bank account nore credit card. I moved to another country and I've closed the bank account that I have used to pay for my subscription. I can provide an ID copy, but not bank details. Also, I find very upsetting the fact that, despite being the victim of fraud, their approach was aggressive. They threatened to cancel my account in 48 hours if the documents were not provided! I payed for my subscription untill May 2023 and I intend to renew it. I have important books to read on my watch list. I wrote in order to get help and they closed my ALREADY PAID AND STILL ACTIVE subscription!
I find this extremely upsetting and it is not normal to restrict the access to my account since I am the one who made a complaint. It is in Scribd duties to protect the users and the access to content since they pay a subscription fee. Not only that Scribd failed to protect my account, now, on the basis of my own complaint, it blocked and deleted my account because I didn't provide some piece of information that I no longer posses.
If I would have never complained, this would have never happened. They wouldn't have even noticed.
Therefore, I asked to withdraw my complaint. But they didn't accept my withdrawal and they canceled my already paid for and still active (until May 2023) subscription.
I want to escalate this and get access to my account or get my money back! But I prefer access to the account since I have a long list of books saved there.
Can you please help me with this?
Thank you in advance!
Desired outcome: Acces to my account
Thank you for your answer. This is the ticker number : #450257. However, it does not make any sense. You are saying that you delete the accounts resulting in the owners payments to help ensure that they will not be charged to an account that does not belong to them. But you already charged me by canceling my active subscription. You did not punish the person that was using my account: you punished me, the victim of the fraud! I can provide ID check, I cannot provide bank statements as I no longer posses that bank account nor credit card! You have the ability to check the name of the person that paid for the subscription and I can send you an ID copy to see that it is the same name. In this situation your company has perceived money for a service it faulty provided. Who profits from the months already paid for? Not me, the customer, that's for sure! I repeat: I can provide ID check, I cannot provide bank statements because I no longer posses the same account! I guess that you are able to reconsider this case as an exception to your standard policy. The matter is simple: currently your company wrongfully benefits from a payment. Thank you for your time!
Charged for service not received...
I stopped putting money in my account for this service when the rates were raised to 11.99 @ 08/2022. I was then locked out of my (scribd) account. Unbeknownst to me the payment was/is/has been deducted from my account for 6 months or more with no service access to me, as i am still locked out of this account, yet 11.99 being deducted off my card. Only last week after unauthorized charges were seen did I notice I was still paying for this subscription I have no access to. No Phone number posted (suspect to say the least). You cant convince me scribd doesnt have a phone. The only way to get ahold of anyone is through the mail. If i have to go through that trouble itll be registered. Thanks for your time..

Unauthorized deductions from my bank account
Hi, I have just noticed on my bank statement that Scribd, Schiphol has deducted €10.99 on the 23rd Nov and 23rd Dec 2022. Today 23rd Jan 2023 there is €10.99 pending payment.
I regularly check my emails and junk mail and can find no communications with Scribd. I have never heard of this organization before, received any emails and have not subscribed to Scribd. I do not know how Scribd has accessed my banking details and have contacted the fraud section of my bank. They advised me to contact Scribd.
I would like you to refund the subscriptions for November and December 2022. I would like to cancel the unauthorized subscription which has been created using my bank details.
My email address is [protected]@hotmail.com
Yours sincerely,
Mary Dunne
Desired outcome: I would like you to refund the subscriptions for November and December 2022. I would like to cancel the unauthorized subscription which has been created using my bank details.
The issue is I never set up an account with Scribd. The deductions on my bank statement are 'Scribd Schiphol'. I have three email accounts
1 maryjodunne@hotmail.com
2 mairin.dunne@rcswexford.ie (work)
3. maryjodunne12@gmail.com
I have checked through my emails and junk mail and cannot find any correspondence from Scribd.
I don't know how this situation has arisen.
Kind regards
Mary

Cancelled my subscription and they are still charging me
I cancelled my subscription because I cannot afford it no longer. My family and I had have had to make a lot of cut backs lately. I have all the screen shots proving I cancelled it and yet they continue to charge me, I really need that money. It seems they do this to a lot of people, this is awful.
Below you can see I cancelled at the end of December and my last day would be January 25th, but yet come January 10th and they charged me again, this is ridiculous.
Desired outcome: A full refund.
