SimpleBills Not splitting bill with roommate

My daughter's roommate at The Standard in Knoxville, TN did not renew her contract with SimpleBills at the beginning of the year, September 2020, effectively making my daughter responsible for all the utilities for the entire 2 bedroom apartment. I don't understand how this can happen and go unnoticed. There should be some policy in place between the apartment complex and SimpleBills to be able to know who renewed their lease and renewed their contract (or in our case, did not) with SimpleBills. I wonder how many other parents are in this same situation and don't know their child's roommate is not paying anything at all for utilities.

The response time by SimpleBills billing department is more than slow. The customer service person said they sent correspondence to The Standard, but the Standard said they did not. The Standard reached out to them and told them the roommate has lived there and owes half the bills. I expect them to refund us and charge the roommate her share in Sept, Oct, and Nov of 2020 and for the rest of her contract with the apartment complex. I'm not going to hold my breath, because I have called and the billing department doesn't talk with customers, only the customer service department who know less than nothing about what is going on.

Wish I could get a refund and they would fix this "easy to take advantage of" glitch between them and the renewals at the apartment complex.

SimpleBills Customer service

Horrible! Issues upon issues with SimpleBills. Wish I could rate lower than 1 star. They promote their company as "simple", yet make everything as complicated as possible. Their customer support is awful. You may or may not be heard back from. And when they do respond, they are of no help. The last response I received was "And that's how it's supposed to be from now on" (said by Amir). No type of compromise or even asking if there was anything they could do to help resolve any frustration I encountered.

Now let's get to my main issue I had. I created an account in August and payed my $65 "annual fee". Come October, I was sent my first bill. There was an issue splitting the bill, so I called their customer support. The gentleman (believe his name was Gavin) was actually nice and helpful. He got me and my roommate's bill split and I paid it. Now here we are, November bill comes around, and my roommate received the full bill again. So I called and emailed them to get it resolved again. I was assured this was an easy fix and I wouldn't have to do anything on my part, they would have it fixed (split) within a day. A few weeks later, here we are, and they (Amir and Alexis) are telling me that only the "primary lease holder" gets an account for the bill. In my head I'm thinking "okay not a huge deal, I can just Venmo her my part." But then I start to think.

If only 1 tenant is an account holder, why did I have to pay 65 dollars to set up an account (an account that I can't even use). When signing up, you are promoted with Credit Reporting and bill statistics. All of which, I now do not have the option to use. Options, that I assumed were part of that 65 dollar fee. This was not explained to us. And helping us split the bill, then completely changing how we were doing it, makes zero sense to me. I have talked to a few friends and neighbors who also live at Brownstone, and they too are now wondering why we all had to pay the 65 dollars.

It is humorous to me how they can advertise as "simple". Because if "simple" is supposed to be a system of "efficiency" or "convenience", they are far off. It is only simple, if you assume someone has Venmo/PayPal or the time to be inconvenienced to go to the bank/ATM. And with my roommate being a college student with low income, it's difficult for her to pay the bill in full. But rather than just simply switching me over as the account holder, I was told, "And that's how it's supposed to be from now on."

I suppose if it is that hard to get your system to just split the bill, then part of the blame also goes to Brownstone Terrace for not pointing out to us who was the "primary lease holder" (if they even checked and that is true information they received). But I will say Brownstone has been helpful and I don't put much blame on them anyway, when SimpleBills has been AWFUL and of ZERO help. It's possible it's only the Support Team to blame, but does not look good for the Leadership Team. I feel it's a scam and they only wish to take as much money as possible from you. Highly do NOT recommend going through them for your utilities.

UPDATE:

SimpleBills refunded my $65. They said it was my landlord's decision to only put 1 tenant on the lease. However, my landlord says it was their idea to do it like that. Sounds like some major miscommunication. However, Melody from SimpleBills was most helpful and clear. I appreciate the refund. I suppose it's just an inconvenience I will deal with.

SimpleBills refunded my money. They said that it was my Landlord's decision to only use one tenant on the account. Prior specialists were not nearly as helpful as this new one, Melody.

SimpleBills Electricity

I have to pay my utilities through this company where I live which is an apartment complex. They have been charging me crazy amounts monthly for electricity. I have tried everything in my power to save electricity and some days I don't come home and stay at my friends house. My electricity bill still keeps increasing every month! this is so frustrating. I have called and spoke with customer service in hopes to find answers as to how do they get these number. All they said is that is what i use and advice me on how to save my electricity and that is all. How is my electricity so high if I'm not even home. Over $200 on electricity for a month is a ridiculous amount and i get no answers. I need answers and someone needs to look into this!

SimpleBills Electric bill for acct 070720 2410871 6443

My granddaughter was living in the Edge of Euclid in Cleveland Ohio.
She left her apt. due to covid-19 in the beginning of March. The Co was notified of that. After we paid the elec bill in April I called and was told it was not there duty to notify the elec co. I spoke to 2 people and nobody could give me a phone # or any info. I had somehow found out your co name and called. Even with all info given nobody could find the acct.
Today I rec my bank statement and it shows the acct #
My question is, what kind of refund are you giving my granddaughter?
Her name is Haley Dickerhof and the adr was: 1740 Euclid Ave Cleveland Ohio

SimpleBills Shared electric payments

I signed up for SimpleBills because my roommates wanted to try it out and it would save the hassle of one person being responsible for the whole thing. What should have been a convenient way for all of us to pay turned into a [censored]ing nightmare! One roommate left around March 1st and conveniently decided not to pay his electric bill. 2 of the 3 of my roommates told the company we would only agree to him closing his account if he paid. Instead, they closed his account anyway and just split his balance among the 3 of us with a slap-on-the wrist fee for him to reinstate his account. He will never sign up for another account so me and my roommates are out money he owed and he won't owe us a dime.

The other major complaint was they cancelled my method of payment right before my bill was due. I ended up paying $15 more than I would have paid just for my share because of stupid fees. This company seems like they want to nickle-and-dime their customers for every cent they can. [censored] these guys! I'm cancelling service with them asap!

SimpleBills Fraud

I was in a domestic violence situation.

I was moved through a emergency transfer.
I was not able to be home during this ENTIRE billing cycle.
My office is aware, my property manager is aware, I have proof, our local police dept knows, I called you guys last month to tell you.

How the [censored] do you charge me $89 no one was there.
I am reporting you to the Attorney General and Office of Inspector General. All local and national media. Done with your fraud 3rd party billing scam. I want my direct submetered bills pdfs, proofs, from the city utility NOW.

SimpleBills Simplebills bad services

Horrible service and their customer support sucks. Overcharging! Stay away!

I had month to month rent and we were forced to use this service to pay bills, as this was only option from landlord.

They set up their cycles in some strange way, so final month I got 2 bills: for partial month and for last 3 days seperate each came late and each had simple bills charge for "storing card on file" (which was by the way lost for few weeks).

My last bill for last 3 days came very late and net electrical charges were only 3.5 usd, but simple bills still kept on charging me 7.5 usd for saving my card.

Basically, stupid game to charge tenants twice. Bad service, when I tried to report this and complained - got response we dont care you have to pay full bill.

Avoid! Please investigate them for bad practices! They must be out of business!

SimpleBills Payment and website

This is the absolute worst company ever. This place sucks. They screwed up my bill and charged me 35 more dollars than I was supposed to be charged. I tried to send an email and it said there was an error. This company is a literal complete disgrace. I have had so many issues with them. They billed me for 4 girls utilities and now they are trying to get me to pay utilities again? No? Give me back the 38 I paid you because you wrongfully charged me first. So ridiculous! Would never use this company again if I was not forced to.

SimpleBills Power bill

Our last bill we were issued was the highest our bill has ever been! We moved out May 3, 19 and on our July bill they billed us for almost 400.00 worth of power, water and trash! Told me they "estimate " your last bill and it's 3 months worth but where has my last 3 months worth of payments gone? No one could answer this! This company is FRAUDULENT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THE LEGAL RIGHT TO DO THIS! How can you estimate and not actually bill for the exact amount! I will not pay this and if they take it out of my account I will dispute it or I will close my account done so they have no access to it! BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY PLEASE!

SimpleBills Student apartment complex

This company is a fraud. They actually are trying to make us place a credit card on file to pay for overages on our daughter's utilities, but not tell us the amount of the bill. I refuse to submit a credit card on file for them to place miscellaneous charges on without even knowing what the bill amount will be upfront. Who does that? No ma'am, No sir...this is unethical and these people need to be put out of business or tossed into jail. Why hurt other people by cheating them out of their hard earned money. This is an abomination.

SimpleBills Provided wrong account information.

Over the past couple of months, Simple Bills still has an old roommate that has not lived at this location in the last 4 months, and as the wrong billing information on file that I have requested to have updated. In addition, I have requested to have the billing updated to a correct email address. I have made multiple calls and request for this information to be updated. I was charged for a late fee, and they refused to removed it, due to them having the wrong information on file. If you have any community dealing with simple bills, please LEAVE!

SimpleBills Utility billing service

So, I ended my lease months ago and the company keeps billing me. They have ignored my girlfriends and I request to removing me from the bills. I just messaged them again to begin what will be the third round of trying to get me off. I wouldn't mind if they didn't charge a person an 8 dallor [censored]ing fee to pay just pay your bill! I live in Suzhou China currently and it's been a nightmare working with these people. If you see a place for rent and it uses Simple bills, stay away. or included that 96$ extra not including headache fees. I lived in the Quarters, near Michigan State University, on their property in Saginaw street.

SimpleBills The services

Never have I had to pay for a more useless service in my life. My apartment required us to sign up for simplebills and it was terrible. All they did was split the bill for you and your roommates. I think some people think it will make each person pay their bill but they say in the agreement that if they don't you still have to pay their part. My bill would be about 20% simplebills service fees every single month. They had very little clarity in your bill, they say that they estimate your bill every month and just keep the extra. I would very much like to see how much they embellished their estimates. Overall a terrible service.

SimpleBills Simple bills

Never have I signed up for something and regretted it more. Save yourself the time and money and just use Venmo to pay your roommate (s) bills. I've been charge over 100 dollars as a broke college student to pays bills that my roommates and I had already paid directly to the utility provider. When I asked to halt my services they told me I had to change my password with my service provider, and that they couldn't just end my services like I wanted. Just flat out awful. Their customer service was friendly but they didn't do a single thing to help me.

SimpleBills Dividing utility bill per lease

The students at Virginia Tech have no choice but to seek off campus housing and the majority of the apartments force the students to sign up for simple bills. The service for $5 per month "simply" divides the bill among the tenants whether they are utilizing the utilities or not!
The lease my daughter signed went through July, however she moved out mid June.
The other roommates are using the utilities however we are getting charged for their usage! How is that equitable, what benefit am I receiving for the $5 service charge. If my daughter was not forced to sign up for this idiotic service, her and her roommates would have intelligently divided the bill based on the months/days in the apartment.

Why would Virginia Tech allow this to continue! Why isn't the Better Business Bureau getting involved? What benefit is this service to the customer?

My son is trying to get out of the Simple Bills service as he moved out of the shared apartment. Simple Bills will not release him until the roommate sends confirmation. Not even releasing him with a letter from the leasing mgr. Roommate is refusing to comply. Problem with roommate is reason for leaving. Simple Bills is basically charging my son for utilities even though he no longer lives there.

SimpleBills Final billing - simplebills

SimpleBills sent a "final" invoice for utility services provided for an apartment and charged us for "estimates" for utilities for the last month of the lease. The company refused to provide documentation supporting their estimates, charged all 5 tenants 100% of the estimate instead of 20% each which is tantamount to charging 500%, refused to provide a copy of the final bill from the utility service, and refused to refund any overpayment. The company refused to provide their methodology of calculating the estimates claiming that the calculations were "proprietary" and a "trade secret".

I have sent numerous emails to attempt to resolve the issue but SimpleBills has failed and refused to provide the information requested and arbitrarily charged my credit card for the excessive overestimate even though the company was notified in advance that they were not authorized to charge my credit card and that it would be disputed.

Please let me know if you need copies of emails and documentation.

Do not use this service. They send fraudulent bills and bill more than the actual utility bills. Then they refuse to give you copies of the final actual utility invoices. I started a proceeding with the Attorney Generals office and they dropped the fraudulent charges.

Wait until you get to the final billing - talk about a nightmare! They will overbill you and tell you they will not refund any overpayments.

DO. NOT. USE. SIMPLE. BILLS.! They need to change their name to NIGHTMARE BILLS! Billing is inconsistent and often late, payments are not credited as they should be and invoices are incorrect. They are simply incompetent! Save your money and pay your own bill when it's actually due! This is a useless service!

see all the google reviews and you will see they have a horrible reputation! call their phone number and see if they answer the phone, call and see if you can leave a voicemail-no and no. they have a vulnerable audience and they take advantage of college kids who don't have time to fight them on incorrect bills, high transaction fees, no return calls and no customer service as well as a nightmare in trying to set up the account and get it right. it is 2016 and not rocket science to make it "simple" but they make it a huge issue due to errors and incompetence. go to their website and you see a lot of males in charge yet no emails connected to them or their titles to address any issue with any human.

Was slightly behind on mortgage (1 month), contacted them for a loan modification because the adjustable rate was about to make payments go WAY up, so they charged me +$600 and did...nothing.
